HBO’s upcoming series The Idol has gone through at least one major creative overhaul since it was announced, with co-creator Amy Seimetz leaving the show in April 2022. Euphoria’s Sam Levinson and Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) then took over as creators for the series, reshaping it to fit their vision and the version of the show set to premiere June 4, 2023.
We don’t know much about the series, other than HBO’s official logline that reads “After a nervous breakdown derailed Jocelyn’s (Lily-Rose Depp) last tour, she’s determined to claim her rightful status as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America. Her passions are reignited by Tedros (Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye), a nightclub impresario with a sordid past. Will her romantic awakening take her to glorious new heights or the deepest and darkest depths of her soul?”

In episode 11 of "Ted Lasso"'s third season, Ted (Jason Sudeikis) is surprised by a special house guest: his mom, Dottie Lasso. She appears totally unannounced in London and shadows her son throughout his day working at AFC Richmond. Eventually, the pair work out some of their long-standing issues, especially those around Ted's dad's death.
If you're an avid TV watcher, you might wonder where you recognize the actor who plays Ted's mom - Becky Ann Baker - from. The answer is a lot of places, since Becky Ann is an extremely prolific character actor. Two of her biggest roles were as Jean Weir on NBC's short-lived (but extremely beloved) teen comedy "Freaks and Geeks" and as Loreen Horvath - the mom to Lena Dunham's Hannah - on HBO's "Girls." “Hello Tomorrow!,” a new 10 episode, half-hour dramedy that follows a group of salesman hawking lunar timeshares in a retro-future world, officially launched on AppleTV+ on Friday, and for lauded actor Billy Crudup, the series hit close to home. TheWrap spoke with co-creators Lucas Jansen and Amit Bhalla and stars Crudup and Nicholas Podany to learn more about the show’s characters and themes, and how the series tackles the “disastrous ramifications” of radical optimism.
Crudup plays Jack Billings, a salesman of great talent and ambition, whose unshakeable faith in a brighter tomorrow inspires his coworkers and revitalizes his desperate customers – but threatens to leave him dangerously lost in the very dream that sustains him.
“We were told we were going to meet Billy to play the role and we were like, ‘Oh my God, this guy’s goddamn perfect. We gotta sell him, what do we even say, how do...

We’re mere weeks away from the long overdue return of Starz’s cult hit series “Party Down,” and as the first trailer will prove, we’re delighted to report the gang are all still living that cautionary don’t-move-to-la life, even into their 40s and 50s. I mean, we’re delighted for you, the fans. We feel kind of bad for the characters.
You can see for yourself at the top of the page. It’s been 10 years and ostensibly they’ve all moved on. But after a surprise reunion, the gang find themselves once again stoically enduring the procession of random parties and oddball guests all over Los Angeles.
But time has not exactly been kind. It’s not just that actor/bartender Henry Pollard (Adam Scott) is grappling with the reality that he’s well into his 40s and still doing that for a living. It’s...

"Star Trek: Lower Decks" recently concluded its third season, and the show has definitely found a groove. Initially presented as a crass, slapstick comedy show, "Lower Decks" quickly revealed itself to be deeply respectful of "Star Trek" philosophy. The show openly understands that its four main characters, while low-ranking and not well-respected, are still principled, sophisticated characters capable of growth and reflection. "Lower Decks" doesn't want to be "'Star Trek' with fart jokes." It wants to be "Star Trek."

She was, at first glance, an avatar for a cynical modern audiences unwilling to engage with "Star Trek" any longer. Exclusive: Emmy winner Carrie Preston (The Good Fight) has signed on to star alongside Paul Giamatti and Da’Vine Joy Randolph in the Miramax film The Holdovers, from two-time Oscar winner and seven-time nominee Alexander Payne.
The dramedy written by Whiskey Cavalier creator David Hemingson follows Paul Hunham (Giamatti), a teacher at a prestigious academy who nobody likes—not his students, not his fellow faculty, not the headmaster, who all find his pomposity and rigidity exasperating. With no family and nowhere to go over Christmas holiday in 1970, Paul remains at school to supervise students unable to journey home. After a few days, only one student holdover remains—a trouble-making 15-year-old named Angus, a good student whose bad behavior always threatens to get him expelled.
Joining Paul and Angus is the school’s head cook Mary (Randolph), who caters to sons of privilege and whose own son was recently lost in Vietnam.

Emmy winner Carrie Preston will return to The Good Fight in Season 6—directing one episode, and reprising her fan-favorite role as attorney Elsbeth Tascioni.
The Paramount+ legal drama co-created, showrun and exec produced by Robert and Michelle King is a spinoff of the legal and political drama The Good Wife, which has seen attorney Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) starting from scratch at a new firm, after losing her life savings. Season 6 has Diane feeling like she’s going crazy, struggling with an uneasy sense of déjà vu, with everything from Roe v. Wade to voting rights to Cold War aggressions returning. Meanwhile, the lawyers of Reddick & Associates wonder if the violence that they see all around them points to an impending civil war. As Diane finds herself getting further from reality this season, suddenly she and Elsbeth (Preston) are in a similar headspace.

‘Last Looks’ Review: It’s Weird Beard Time for Charlie Hunnam and Mel Gibson in Shaggy L.A. Whodunit
It takes some nerve casting a scandal-embattled star like Mel Gibson as a colorful TV celebrity suspected of killing his wife. Those who’ve stood by Gibson despite multiple attempts by the actor to sabotage his own career will likely admire the chutzpah of “Last Looks,” even if his flamboyantly named (and mustachioed) Alastair Pinch — a borderline-blotto, Colonel Sanders-looking Southern judge on a show called “Johnnie’s Bench” — is just a side character (the main suspect) in an overcrowded Hollywood detective story that’s got gimmicks to burn.
The ringmaster of this three-ring circus is one Charlie Waldo, a disgraced former LAPD golden boy with even wilder facial hair than Pinch. It’s like a pandemic beard, minus the pandemic.
A few years earlier, Waldo went off the grid after realizing he couldn’t undo the wrongful conviction that launched his career. Where’s Waldo now? Living in self-imposed exile — or “extraction,...
