The Star Trek Universe keeps expanding at warp speed.

Justin Simien, the writer-director behind Dear White People and The Haunted Mansion, and Tawny Newsome, one of the voice stars of Star Trek: Lower Decks, are in development on a new live-action Star Trek series for Paramount+.

The announcement was made Saturday during the Star Trek Universe panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con by Simien, who was moderating, and Newsome, who was on stage.

The new series is intended to be an action comedy that, according to Paramount, centers on Federation outsiders who are serving on a gleaming resort planet. Not only that, their day-to-day exploits are being broadcast to the entire quadrant.

Sources have said the show may have workplace comedy tones of The Office or Parks and Recreation.

“Star Trek” is preparing to beam up some laughter.

Actor-writer Tawny Newsome (“Star Trek: Lower Decks”) and writer-director Justin Simien are developing a new live-action comedy set in the world of the storied sci-fi franchise.

The show will be set in the 25th century. According to an official logline, it will follow “Federation outsiders serving a gleaming resort planet find out their day-to-day exploits are being broadcast to the entire quadrant.”

Newsome and Simien announced the project, along with fellow executive producer Alex Kurtzman, during the “Star Trek” Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con, which Simien moderated. Newsome was there with the cast of “Lower Decks” to discuss the fifth and final season of the animated comedy, in which Newsome voices Beckett Mariner, one of the junior officers on the USS Cerritos.

Simien, Newsome and Kurtzman will also write on the show. Aaron Baiers, Kyle Laursen, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will executive produce.

Exclusive: Saturday Night Live star Ego Nwodim has been tapped as the female lead opposite Adam Pally and Stephen Curry in the single-camera Peacock comedy series Mr. Throwback. Her casting is not expected to impact her duties on the NBC sketch comedy series, which is in the same corporate family.

The Mr. Throwback mocumentary, from Happy Endings creator David Caspe and writing duo Matthew Libman and Daniel Libman, centers on Danny (Happy Endings alum Pally), a down-on-his-luck memorabilia dealer who looks for redemption by reuniting with his sixth-grade teammate, NBA great Steph Curry.

Nwodim will play Kimberly, Steph’s childhood friend, business partner, manager and essentially his overall handler. Kimberly, Steph, and Danny all grew up together, and while Kimberly is happy to see Danny pop back up in their lives, he’s not about to let Steph get taken advantage of by any of Danny’s schemes.

Exclusive: A new single-camera comedy series is in the works at Fox from Denis Leary, Jack Leary and Joel Church-Cooper.

The series, titled Going Dutch, is part of Denis Leary’s development deal with Fox Entertainment, which he inked in 2020. Church-Cooper will pen the series, while Denis and Jack Leary will executive produce.

In Going Dutch, a decorated, hard-ass colonel is tasked with running the least important U.S. Army base in the world, located in the tulip-hugging, wine-chugging Netherlands.

Denis Leary previously starred in Fox’s The Moodys for two seasons. His deal with Fox, which runs through his recently launched production company Amoeba, tasks him with developing and producing comedy, drama and animation. He is repped by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.

His son Jack is a writer, producer and director who runs Amoeba alongside Denis. Under the Amoeba banner, Jack oversees development for various projects across the television, film and new media landscape.

This new production, directed by Tony Award-winner Rachel Chavkin, will begin previews March 25 at Second Stage’s Hayes Theater, with an official opening on April 20.

Robinson is an American actor of Panamanian and African American descent, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.

He began his career co-starring in the Netflix original film Burning Sands, which was an official selection at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. He played Big Country in the drama project following students who pledge to a fraternity as illegal hazing has now moved underground. Additionally, he portrayed the character Capital A in the 2018 horror film The First Purge.

The HBO limited series “The Palace” starring Kate Winslet has added Martha Plimpton to its cast. In addition, Jessica Hobbs has boarded the series as a co-executive producer and director.

Along with Winslet and Plimpton, the cast for the show also includes Hugh Grant, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Andrea Riseborough. Exact character details are being kept under wraps, but according to the official logline for “The Palace,” the show “tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of an authoritarian regime as it begins to unravel.” It was originally ordered at HBO in July 2022.

Plimpton is a three-time Emmy nominee, winning the award for best guest actress in a drama for “The Good Wife” in 2012. She was also nominated in the same category for “Law & Order: Svu” and for best actress in a comedy for “Raising Hope,” the latter of which she starred in for four seasons.

The comedy from writer-director Ravi Kapoor (Miss India America) centers on a wannabe rapper in L.A.’s Little India, who concocts a backwards plan to disrupt his ex-girlfriend’s wedding by stealing her wedding diamonds. It will be one of just 10 feature films in US Narrative Competition at Tribeca in June—premiering in New York on June 10th, with several other screenings to follow throughout the festival week. Written by Alexandra Cunningham from a story she co-wrote with Kevin J. Hynes, the Paramount Television Studios and Amblin Television series explores the timeless themes of marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes towards strong women, personality disorders and coercive control.

The dramedy written by Whiskey Cavalier creator David Hemingson follows Paul Hunham (Giamatti), a teacher at a prestigious academy who nobody likes—not his students, not his fellow faculty, not the headmaster, who all find his pomposity and rigidity exasperating. Jennifer Caserta is exiting AMC Networks after nearly two decades at the company, most recently as its chief transformation and people officer. As Caserta departs, Aisha Thomas-Petit has been named chief people and diversity officer at the company.

Caserta had served as chief transformation/people officer since 2018; prior to that, she spent 14 years at IFC TV, including as president and Gm. Thomas-Petit, who joined the company in late 2020 as AMC Networks’ first chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer, will now lead the company’s people and culture strategy, including global talent acquisition, leadership development and compensation and benefits, in addition to continuing to oversee the company’s diversity, equity and inclusion strategic priorities.

Thomas-Petit will continue to report to AMC Networks interim CEO Matt Blank, who announced the changes on Wednesday.
