HBO's Lanterns series is still ever-expanding after recently adding Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner into the fold. Per Deadline, Lawman: Bass Reeves star Chris Coy is now the latest addition to the upcoming Green Lantern drama series in a guest-starring role. He's set to embody a mysterious new character by the name of Waylon Sanders, described as "an intelligent survivor or a nervous truck driver." If that wasn't confusing enough, his real name and age remain an enigma, and he's said to be "unbound by the laws of nature." It's unclear what role he'll play and whether he'll be a friend or a foe to Lantern recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler).

Coy boards a group that has grown significantly in recent weeks, with Kelly MacDonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Sherman Augustus, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jason Ritter among those on board thus far.

The Mummy: Jack Reynor To Star In Evil Dead Rise Director Lee Cronin's Blumhouse Reboot
Image
Late last year, we got word that The Mummy is set to rise from its tomb once again, with director Lee Cronin taking the helm of a new movie from Blumhouse/Atomic Monster. Now, as production gets underway, the studio has announced that the project has found its lead.

Jack Reynor is set to star, though we don't have any details on his role.

Reynor's other credits include Lenny Abrahamson's What Richard Did, for which he won the Itfa Award for Best Actor; John Carney's Sing Street, for which he won the Itfa Award for Best Supporting Actor, as well as Carney’s Flora and Son; Ben Wheatley's Free Fire and Kathryn Bigelow's Detroit. In 2015, he won the Sundance Film Festival’s Dramatic Special Jury Award for Acting for his performance in Gerard Barrett’s film Glassland. Upcoming projects include the second season of Prime Video...

Jack Reynor to Face Off Against ‘The Mummy’ for New Line Cinema
Image
Jacy Reynor is set to go toe-to-toe with the walking undead, as he has landed the lead in New Line Cinema’s “The Mummy,” from “Evil Dead Rise” director Lee Cronin and Atomic Monster and Blumhouse.

Production begins next week in Ireland, ahead of its April 17, 2026 release date. Plot details are being kept secret, although Reynor is reportedly a husband and father who goes up against the titular creep.

This will be the third modernized monster movie that producer Jason Blum and Blumhouse has tackled, after making “The Invisible Man” and “Wolf Man,” both directed by Leigh Whannell, for Universal Pictures, the studio most closely associated with the classic monsters.

The last time Universal unwrapped “The Mummy” it was for a big-screen action blockbuster in 2017 starring Tom Cruise. Before that there were a trilogy of films starring Brendan Fraser, which concluded in 2008.

Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are co-financing “The Mummy,...

Jack Reynor Boards Lee Cronin’s ‘The Mummy’ For Atomic Monster, Blumhouse & New Line
Image
Exclusive: Lee Cronin’s The Mummy has cast Jack Reynor as the Atomic Monster/Blumhouse production for New Line is set to begin filming in Ireland and Spain. Cronin’s Doppelgängers banner is also producing. I’m told Reynor is not getting wrapped up in the title role.

The film, which is still keeping its logline under wraps, is written and directed by Cronin, and marks the first collaboration for the recently combined companies, helmed by James Wan and Jason Blum, with Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group. Pic will be released on April 17, 2026.

Reynor is an award-winning Irish-American actor who recently starred in Netflix’s 2024 hit limited series, The Perfect Couple. His previous feature credits include Ari Aster’s Midsommar, The Russo Brothers’ Cherry; Lenny Abrahamson’s What Richard Did, for which he won the IFTA Award for Best Actor; John Carney’s Sing Street,...

Back In Action: Five Movie Directors Making A Welcome Return In 2025
Image
It’s hard to believe now but before taking 12 long years to follow 1987’s Full Metal Jacket with Eyes Wide Shut in 1999, the famously meticulous Stanley Kubrick was comparatively prolific — in the ’60s alone he released four of his 13 features. In these days of instant gratification, a director taking longer than three years is either deemed to be M.I.A. or about to pop up with a secret film made entirely under the radar. But absence does make the heart grow fonder, and these five directors can expect a warm welcome in 2025.

Katt Williams Trippin’ Out For Adam Rifkin’s ‘Toad’
Image
Exclusive: Comedian Katt Williams is boarding Adam Rifkin’s trippy road-trip comedy Toad opposite James Paxton (Twisters) and Oliver Wyman (Feeling Randy).

When the soaring desert temperatures cause the toads to suffer heatstroke, the two imbeciles are inadvertently dosed when they give the toads CPR and suddenly find themselves on a hallucinogenic odyssey.

Williams will play Earl, a cigar-chomping, human-size anthropomorphic toad who may or may not be a figment of the boys’ imaginations. Earl pops up at key points along their journey to give them unsolicited but much-needed advice and philosophical wisdom.

‘Unstoppable’ Director William Goldenberg on Making the Transition from Editing
Image
William Goldenberg has been working as an editor for over 30 years, during which time he has collaborated with A-list directors like Michael Mann, Kathryn Bigelow, and Ben Affleck, whose “Argo” won the Oscar for best editing. Yet when the time came to direct his first feature, the inspirational sports drama “Unstoppable,” there was still one thing made Goldenberg apprehensive: working with actors.

“That was the thing I was most nervous about,” Goldenberg told IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. “Luckily for me, I got my first choice for everybody, and they’re all spectacularly good actors, so it’s not like I’m taking a first-time actor and trying to mold the performance. It was about making sure we’re all making the same film, that we all have the same goals and are trying to interpret the scenes in the same way.”

Goldenberg quickly realized that there was a direct...

Spirit Awards Brunch Gets Emotional Due to Josh Welsh’s Death: “We Are in a Period of Mourning”
Image
An emotional scene unfolded inside the ballroom of Santa Monica’s Hotel Casa del Mar on Saturday afternoon as Film Independent hosted its annual Spirit Awards nominee brunch.

The event is typically a casual and cozy beachside affair filled with actors, auteurs, producers, press, executives and other industry insiders in attendance to toast the annual awards show while the organization doles out grants to rising filmmakers. And while the reflection looked similarly this year, a cloud hung over the festivities due to the absence of Film Independent president Josh Welsh, who died just days ago on New Year’s Eve following a private five-year battle with colon cancer.

“We’re handing out a lot of free hugs this week,” explained Film Independent board chair Brenda Robinson as she stepped up to the podium for the brunch presentation with a view of the beach and Pacific Ocean over her shoulders. “We...

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Unleash New Song “Detroit”: Stream
Image
Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, aka Pigs x7, have released the new single “Detroit,” the first new music from the UK band since their 2023 full-length Land of Sleeper.

The track is a five-plus-minute crusher that’s on the darker side for Pigs x7, slotting somewhere between the noise rock of The Jesus Lizard and sludge doom of the Melvins. A bludgeoning riff pounds away in repetition, setting up ominous bellowed vocals and a breakdown that slows things to a trudging pace. The payoff comes as the band gradually build the tempo back up in the second half of the track.

“’Detroit’ reflects on the worst manifestations of male jealousy and resentment,” stated singer Matt Baty, “and the ways in which a lack of accountability can lead to deflecting responsibility in exchange for blaming external forces like fate or God for perceived injustice.”

In other news, Pigs x7’s...

Game of Thrones star Hannah Murray (Gilly) releasing "astonishing" memoir
Image
Hannah Murray has made memorable appearances in many movies and TV shows over the years, including Skins, Detroit and Charlie Says. But Game of Thrones fans will know her best as Gilly, a timid girl born into harsh conditions beyond the Wall who grew in strength, smarts and poise as the show went on.

Now, Hutchinson Heinemann has won the rights to publish Murray's new memoir The Make-Believe after a 13-way auction. Why were the rights to this book so contested? Well, apart from the fact that Murray will get to tell tales from behind the scenes of Game of Thrones — she appeared in seven out of eight seasons, so she probably has lots of interesting stories to share — it sounds like the book will dive into some intense aspects of Murray's life I don't think the general public is aware of. For instance, The Bookseller says that Murray...
