Lauren and Ollie run an Internet music station called After Hours from a barge. Jobless school leaver Willow, still living with parents Peter and Anna, is their number one fan and gets a job with them after girlfriend Jasmine drops him. The parents are initially reluctant to let him take it but give in on the promise of the station playing Neil Diamond.

Anna is not happy that Peter will not apply for work at the supermarket he accuses of forcing him out of his job as a milkman or when his lazy friend Geoff comes to stay after a row with his wife. Lauren and Ollie are keen to get Willow on air in order to win back Jasmine but he prefers to comfort his friend Chris, whose chess trophies have been stolen. However, following an appeal on After Hours the trophies are returned.

Willow is optimistic when Jasmine, now single again, compliments him on his DJ skills and suggests to Ollie that the station should put on a live gig to publicize itself, with band the Bad Weekends. Peter also applies for a job at the supermarket without telling his spouse whilst Lauren gets a surprise visitor.

Following her break-up with boyfriend Scott Jasmine returns to Willow whilst Lauren and her ex-boyfriend and old bandmate from the Bad Weekends, Luke, prepare for their gig. Ollie gets a surprise offer from his old boss at North Lincolnshire Radio who wants After Hours for her station whilst Peter realizes that Anna is also working at the supermarket and Geoff persuades his boss at the insurance company to revive the old milk rounds with the firm as sponsor.

The gig is sold out but Russell, hurt by Lauren's rejection, backs out and cancellation seems likely - until Ollie steps in. Thanks to Geoff Peter gets his milk round back as well as approving his wife's new job whilst, following the gig, Willow decides to go travelling with Jasmine. However the lure of After Hours may be too strong, especially as Lauren and Ollie have agreed to keep going independently.
