Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy are to reunite to star in the adaptation of Enid Blyton’s ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’.
Based on The Faraway Tree series of novels for children, the project follows Polly and Tim and their children Beth, Joe and Fran – a modern family who find themselves forced to relocate to the remote English countryside.
Soon after the family arrives in the countryside, the children discover a magical tree and its extraordinary and eccentric residents including treasured characters Moonface, Silky, Dame Washalot and Saucepan Man. At the top of the tree, they are transported to spectacular and fantastical lands and, through the joys and challenges of their adventures, the family learn to reconnect and value each other for the first time in years.
Garfield will play Tim while Foy takes on the role of Polly. The pair have previously starred together in Andy Serkis’ 2017 offering ‘Breath’.

After starring in the comedy Vacation Friends (which I enjoyed much more than our reviewer did) and its sequel (didn’t watch that one yet) for the Hulu streaming service, Lil Rel Howery has taken the lead in another Hulu Original – but this time they switched up genres. Their new collaboration is the sci-fi horror movie The Mill, which is set to start streaming on October 9th as part of the service’s “Huluween” event. With that release date just over a week away, we’ve gotten our hands on a trailer for The Mill, and you can check it out in the embed above.
Directed by Sean King O’Grady (We Need to Do Something) from a screenplay by Jeffrey David Thomas (All American: Homecoming), The Mill sees Howery playing the role of a white-collar businessman who mysteriously wakes up in an open-air prison cell containing only an old grist mill.

This post contains spoilers for "True Story"
Kevin Hart is basically a human version of Netflix at this point, churning out projects and pumping the media ecosystem with as much of himself as possible. From his Peacock chat show "Hart to Heart" to his 2021 Netflix dramedy "Fatherhood"; his docuseries "Don't F*** This Up" to his stand-up specials, Hart has capitalized on his popularity to the extreme. He even popped up on "Talking Watches" in 2023, since evidently developing a taste for the finer things.
Somehow, the man also found time to make his television drama debut in 2021's "True Story." Arriving on Netflix in November 2021, "True Story" is a limited series in which Hart and Wesley Snipes play brothers, and is loosely based on the former's career as a stand-up comedian. Hart plays a version of himself named Kid, who kicks off a comedy tour in his native Philadelphia. At the show,...

Exclusive: Sunset Lane Media has pre-emptively optioned William Neuman’s non-fiction book Things Are Never So Bad That They Can’t Get Worse: Inside the Collapse of Venezuela which they plan to develop into a TV series.
The St Martin’s Press book explores the rich backdrop of a country in turmoil; once a gem of South America with its rich natural resources, it is now far from it. David Beaubaire, CEO & Founder of Sunset Lane Media, will be producing with Kip Azzoni who first approached him about the project.
Said Neuman, “I’m excited to work with David and Kip on a project that will shine a light on the tragic crisis in Venezuela and the suffering of ordinary people there. In my book, I show the human cost as the country went from a bonanza of oil riches to crushing poverty, thanks to populist politics, corruption, and catastrophic mismanagement.

In the last few years, possibly aided by the rise of reality television, it’s not weird to see those best known for their work on Capitol Hill cross platforms to become involved in the motion picture or television industry.
Of course, plenty have traded DC for CNN. And former President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama took it a step further when they created Higher Ground Productions, which has produced documentaries like “Crip Camp” and Netflix comedies like “Fatherhood.” But getting into the content game in front of the cameras involves the creation of a persona that strikes a balance between the political and personal. People may be divided on politics, but everyone can come together for a heartwarming film or television show (theoretically). That’s the hope, at least, behind Hillary and Chelsea Clinton’s “Gutsy.”

Back in person for the first time since before the pandemic, the Toronto International Film Festival will make its grand return with a slate that builds on its expansion from previous years. The 2022 lineup boasts the world premieres of several high-profile films, including Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans,” Sam Mendes’ “Empire of Light,” Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” and the Billy Eichner comedy “Bros.” However, there are a number of hot titles due to screen at the festival that have yet to be acquired. Documentaries by the likes of “Blackfish” director Gabriela Cowperthwaite and narrative features led by stars such as Margaret Qualley, Brian Cox and Tessa Thompson just may incite a bidding war. Here are 15 buzzy sales titles to watch.

The movie business teaches you to be wary of big spenders. Broad Green came and went in a blur of miscalculated flops. Annapurna downsized after several reckless buying sprees and finally stopped acquiring movies altogether. Now comes whispers that Canadian investment studio Bron — which helped finance films like “Joker” and “Licorice Pizza” — is going down a similar path.
Sources tell me that the studio launched by husband-and-wife team Aaron and Brenda Gilbert in 2010 laid off several senior roles and will merge its film and TV divisions into a single unit. Rather than produce the live-action features, I’m told that Bron is now working to secure new corporate partners as it restructures its business model around its Bron Digital division. That means a renewed focus on animation and games designed to create new franchises, not the usual blend of blockbusters and A-list auteurs that it has supported in the past.

Who knew when the year began that a sequel to a 36-year-old movie starring its 60-year-old actor who headlined the original would be the box office champ so far this year? But “Top Gun: Maverick” starring Tom Cruise, which was released Aug. 23 on digital formats while still flying high in theaters is not only the No. 1 film of the year with a staggering haul of 683.4 million domestically and 720 million overseas. And the acclaimed film didn’t even play in China or Russia. “Top Gun: Maverick” is also the biggest film of Cruise’s career which began in 1981 with Franco Zeffirelli’s “Endless Love.”
And with the digital release, let’s relive 1986, the year we first felt the need for speed and flew into the danger zone. The year the original “Top Gun” took our breath away.

Preparing for an upcoming flight isn’t just limited to packing your clothes and toiletries — have you thought about how you’re going to keep yourself entertained? The idealist in all of us might say we’re gonna read that book we’ve been putting off, but depending on the length of your flight, that may be easier said than done. If it’s on the longer side, it can be easy to get distracted and start to really feel the minutes crawling by.

Lil Rel Howery has lined up his second HBO stand up comedy special, Variety has learned exclusively.
This will be Howery’s second HBO stand up special after 2019’s “Lil Rel Howery: Live in Crenshaw.” The new special will tape in Howery’s hometown of Chicago in the coming weeks. It will then be available on both HBO and HBO Max.
“Getting the opportunity to do another comedy special with HBO is a dream come true, but even more so this time around because I’m excited for the world to see what happens when I go back to my roots,” Howery said. “It’ll be a homecoming to remember!”
In addition to his celebrated work as a stand up comedian, Howery has gained recognition in recent years for his efforts as an actor. He most famously played Tsa agent Rod Williams in Jordan Peele’s Oscar-winning feature “Get Out.

If I want to go and do it, I know I can do it well, and I think the baby steps that I’ve taken with ‘Upside’ [and] ‘Fatherhood,’ it was about just slow walking my audience into going, ‘Oh, my God, like Kevin can act. It’s not just being funny. We know in the world of comedy and action and comedy and adventure, he can act. He does that very well. But oh, my god, he can do this,...

Kevin Hart’s companies, Lough Out Loud and Hartbeat Productions, are in discussions with potential investors, Deadline has confirmed.
The development adds to a growing list of companies seeking deals. The M&a climate continues to be vibrant amid favorable economic conditions and a wave of private equity interest in media, entertainment and technology. In just the past few months, Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and LeBron James’ SpringHill Co. have received injections of new capital at lofty, nine-figure valuations.
News of the Hart talks was first reported by Puck’s Matt Belloni.
Hart is known for being industrious and his two companies have both followed suit. Laugh Out Loud, founded in 2017, produces, develops and distributes digital, audio and experiential comedy content. The prolific and multifaceted shop puts out an array of on-demand fare and runs a 24-7 streaming channel that is available via major distribution hubs like Pluto, Tubi and Peacock.

Kevin Hart is taking the leap into dramatic series television with the Netflix limited series “True Story.” And if even a quarter of the series is, in fact, true then it looks to be a wild ride. The first trailer for the seven-episode limited series just dropped and things take a bad turn fast.
Based on the trailer, Hart is playing a character seemingly inspired by himself, an ultra-successful comedian named The Kid. Life appears to be good, but when Kid’s older brother (Wesley Snipes) shows back up in his life, it threatens to destroy not just the Kid’s career but could see more violent things unfold. Right now there’s little else to go off of, including what exactly is going to land the Kid in hot water, but there’s a serious desire to make this a heavy drama.

Kevin Hart takes a rare dramatic turn as a world famous stand-up comedian (heh!) in the Netflix limited series True Story (premiering Wednesday, Nov. 24 aka Thanksgiving Eve).
The streamer on Wednesday released a trailer for the seven-episode drama, which hails from Narcos: Mexico showrunner Eric Newman. Hart plays the above-mentioned comedian The Kid, while Wesley Snipes (Dolemite Is My Name) assumes the role of older brother Carlton. Per the official logline, “a tour stop in Kid’s hometown of Philadelphia becomes a matter of life and death… when the consequences of a lost evening with his wayward brother threaten to destroy everything he’s built.

Netflix selectively reveals viewing information when the results are good. More and more stars are pressing the issue, like Kevin Hart did on Fatherhood and Ryan Murphy on Ratched. Such is the case this morning with Jake Gyllenhaal, divulging the stats on The Guilty, the movie he made in lockdown with his Southpaw director Antoine Fuqua.
According to Gyllenhaal, the film — shot over 11 days, with Fuqua working from a trailer after someone in his circle tested positive for Covid — will be seen in 69 million households in its first four weeks, and has been the streamer’s top movie in 91 countries. Gyllenhaal plays a 911 dispatcher with a sketchy past who tries to help a woman kidnapped by her husband, leaving her children in danger.
Pic opened limited in theaters September 24, and on Netflix beginning October 1. It’s a Nic Pizzolato-scripted remake of the Danish film Den Skyldige.

Frankie Faison (The Wire), Jayme Lawson (The Batman), Tosin Cole (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Kevin Carroll (The Leftovers), Sean Patrick Thomas (Barbershop), John Douglas Thompson (Mare of Easttown) and Roger Guenveur Smith (Self Made: Inspired by the Life Of Madam C.J Walker) will join Danielle Deadwyler, Whoopi Goldberg and Jalyn Hall in Chinonye Chukwu’s feature Orion Pictures release, Till about Emmett Louis Till. Till tells the story of Mamie Till-Mobley (Deadwyler), whose pursuit of justice for her 14-year-old son Emmett Louis Till (Hall) became a galvanizing moment that helped lead to the creation of the civil rights movement. As Time Magazine reported, “…thanks to a mother’s determination to expose the barbarousness of the crime, the public could no longer pretend to ignore what they couldn’t see.” Mamie’s decision to have an open casket at Emmett’s funeral,...
