Glenn Close has been nominated for eight Academy Awards, and is currently going viral for her work in Lee Daniels’ exorcism flick The Deliverance, but amongst Simpsons fans, the Fatal Attraction star is perhaps best known for voicing Homer’s mom. Mona Simpson was properly introduced in Season Seven’s “Mother Simpson,” which was easily one of the show’s most tearjerkingest episodes.
As you may recall, Homer discovers that his mom isn’t dead, as he originally believed; she’s really a fugitive from the law, due to her Weather Underground-esque activism in the 1960s.
Mona inarguably fleshed the world of The Simpsons for the better, adding emotional nuance to Homer’s character, and providing Lisa with a familial role model. And Close’s touching performance is a big reason why Mona was such a welcome addition to the show.

Venice has got its sexy back. Erotica of all varieties — gay, straight, kinky and theoretical — is on glorious display at this year’s Venice Film Festival, with plenty of sizzling action onscreen and little of it gratuitous.

Here at FandomWire, we review the new action spectacular Kill (2023) starring Lakshya, and this article is spoiler-free.
Sometimes, a film star can come out of nowhere and knock you off your feet. In the Indian Hindi-language action thriller Kill, Lakshya is that man. A relative unknown, he has burst onto the scene with his granite jaw, perfect five-o’clock shadow, and a thick head of hair that hardly bristles as he caves someone’s chest in with a powerful kick or cracks a skull with an iron fist.
After watching Kill, viewers may enjoy the adrenaline-pumping, bone-crunching, knuckle-busting, and lip-splitting escapism. The type that drags its villains across some cheap train carpet, leaving the taste of rug burn in their mouths and shards of glass in their foreheads.

Known for the massive Catedral, hunking Alcázar castle and higgeldy-piggeldy old quarter back street, history weighs heavily in Toledo. There was nothing arcane about Conecta Fiction, however, which captured the current contradictions of the international TV industry. 10 takeaways:

How distraught is Annette, the severely troubled British mother of two played by Daisy Ridley in “Magpie?” She has gotten a short angular haircut, one that might, in another context, be the height of chic (very Isabella Rossellini). Except that the movie uses it as a symbolic expression of her trauma, like Mia Farrow’s iconic Vidal Sassoon cut in “Rosemary’s Baby.” Annette, who’s on some serious medication, looks at a mirror until it breaks. Does she have telekinetic powers? No, she broke it with her hand (which bleeds into the sink), but the force of her repressed rage is palpable. Ben (Shazad Latif), her British Indian husband, is a noted author, and every comment she makes about his work is a sly dig. She speaks in brief, clipped “civilized” phrases. At one point a bird crashes into the window of her home. The whole atmosphere of the film...

‘Mea Culpa’ Review: Tyler Perry’s 1980s-Style Erotic Thriller Serves Up Guilty Pleasures to His Fans
Within his deal at Netflix, Tyler Perry has found room to flex his narrative muscles, mixing his familiar brand of comedy and melodrama with other genres. “A Jazzman’s Blues” applied Perry’s usual formula to a 1930s period setting. Before that, his first film for the streamer, “A Fall from Grace,” found him trying his hand at a legal thriller. Now, with “Mea Culpa,” the prolific writer-director pushes that genre further, making a loopy 1980s-style erotic thriller with a distinctly Tyler Perry flair. The plot skews close to “Jagged Edge” with a lawyer falling for her client, a man accused of murdering his partner, while referencing another famous ’80s staple, “Fatal Attraction,” via a love nest accessed only by freight elevator.
The lawyer in this scenario is Mea Harper (Kelly Rowland), and her possibly guilty client is artist Zyair Malloy (Trevante Rhodes), who’s accused of murdering his girlfriend.

Naked Attraction has surged to capture the top spot on Max streaming service’s “Most Popular” series list a week after its U.S. release.
That’s pretty impressive for a 7-year-old British reality show that was added to Max with zero fanfare on Sept. 20. Media coverage and online chatter surged following a Hollywood Reporter story over the weekend pointing out that the controversial series had been added to the service. Max’s Top 10 is based on the number of unique accounts viewing relatively recently added content (so legacy titles like The Sopranos are not included). The show’s official ratings from Nielsen won’t be available for weeks.
The dating series features singles who judge and eliminate nude prospective dates. The show features close-up, full-frontal nudity and plenty of graphic discussion, though no sex is shown.

Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav may well have had a big part in crafting the tentative agreement between striking writers and Hollywood studios over the weekend, but on the heels of that triumph, Wbd looks to be mired in a much different type of controversy.
The Hollywood Reporter is outlining that controversy, as Wbd is drawing criticism for the importation of a British reality dating series called “Naked Attraction” to its streamer Max. The show features full frontal nudity in each episode, and that has drawn the attention of conservative parents groups.

We are in a remarkable (and terrifying) era of unconventional dating shows that push the boundaries of what entertainment can be. From Love is Blind and FBoy Island to Milf Manor, the spins on reality dating are countless these days. However, the United Kingdom’s Naked Attraction cuts right down to the chase, introducing participants in full frontal nudity. Since 2016, it has been broadcast on Britain’s Channel 4, and now it has quietly made its way onto the streaming platform Max. The episodes available on Max remain uncensored, but now they include a warning at the start of each one: “The following series is intended exclusively for mature audiences. It features full frontal nudity, strong language, and explicit discussions about the human body. Viewer discretion is strongly advised.” In every episode, a “chooser” assesses and eliminates six prospective dates who stand on a stage, their fully exposed bodies gradually...

For the first time since beginning this editorial series, we’re discussing a documentary rather than a fiction film. That’s because Yellow Veil just released a supersized documentary about the history of the Erotic Thriller called We Kill For Love: The Lost World of the Erotic Thriller (2023).
Clocking in at 163 minutes, this is a thorough, occasionally indulgent documentary written and directed by Anthony Penta. The doc uses a framing device featuring an archivist character, played by Michael Reed, cataloguing countless VHS tapes and watching “Suspect Interviews” (aka talking head interviews) in his dimly lit office. These segments recur throughout We Kill For Love, and also feature voice-over narration from Penta that are partially purple prose, partially quotations from academic articles and books on the genre.
The vast majority of the documentary, however, is taken up by clips and talking head interviews. There’s a good variety of interviewees, including scholars such Linda Ruth Williams,...

William Friedkin, who won an Oscar for directing The French Connection, scored a nomination for The Exorcist and also helmed The Boys in the Band, Cruising, To Live and Die in L.A., Rules of Engagement and many others, died today in Los Angeles of heart failure and pneumonia. He was 87.
His death was confirmed by CAA via his wife, Fatal Attraction producer and former studio chief Sherry Lansing.
Friedkin beat out some serious heavyweights to win the Best Director Academy Award for The French Connection at the 1972 ceremony. Also up for the statuette that year were Stanley Kubrick (A Clockwork Orange), Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show) and Norman Jewison (Fiddler on the Roof). He would go up against more heavy hitters with The Exorcist two years later. Nina Ruscio remembers seeing the blockbuster psychosexual thriller “Fatal Attraction” when it was released in 1987 and the controversy that followed it, the “deep psychic weight” and “issues of misogyny and mental health” that surrounded the hit about marriage and infidelity that starred Michael Douglas, Glenn Close and Anne Archer. “It crossed a lot of the wires of psychic intensity at the time,” she recalls. So when the opportunity arose for Ruscio to serve as the production designer on the new eight-part “Fatal Attraction” reboot for Paramount+, she knew that if she signed on, there was some risk she’d find herself in the middle of a new firestorm. But she trusted her instincts in saying yes.
“I was attracted to (showrunner) Alexandra Cunningham’s intention to actually reset the story in a contemporary time look and at Alex’s reasons for her circumstance,” Ruscio says, “and Dan’s for his,...

[This story contains spoilers to the first three episodes of Paramount+’s Fatal Attraction.]
Glenn Close has made her thoughts on Fatal Attraction known in the conversation around the legacy of the iconic 1987 film that co-starred herself and Michael Douglas.
Reading about Close’s character work, the original (and then retooled) ending to the erotic thriller and Close’s wishes that the Oscar-nominated film had explored more of Alex Forrest’s mental illness, instead of labeling her with extreme villainy, are all partly what inspired Alexandra Cunningham to agree to adapt the movie into the Fatal Attraction limited series that has now begun streaming on Paramount+.
“[Close has] always said that if anyone was going to do [a remake], that she hoped someone would dig deeper into Alex’s point of view and her motivations,” Cunningham told The Hollywood Reporter (in an interview that took place before the Writers Guild of America went on strike).
So when the showrunner heard through a mutual connection — the show’s hair department head,...

Paramount+’s Fatal Attraction series shows us the first embers of an illicit affair… but it also shows us the damage it can cause once it catches fire.
Sunday’s premiere opens with former lawyer Dan Gallagher (Joshua Jackson) sporting a scraggly beard and facing a parole board after spending 15 years in prison for second-degree murder. He shares his deep remorse for killing a woman named Alex Forrest: “I chose to lose control. I chose to take her life.” All he wants is to be able to reconnect with his family — and his daughter Ellen (Alyssa Jirrels) is in the room watching.

“Fatal Attraction” is a story about hubris. Dan Gallagher (Joshua Jackson), a high-powered LA County prosecutor, lives a life of means. He’s inherited the de facto family business, he has a loving wife and daughter, and he can escape precarious legal situations with a well-placed phone call or two. Then, a woman enters his life who he can’t ignore: Alex Forrest (Lizzy Caplan), a member of the Victim Services team who ends up in the same courthouse hallways Dan patrols on a daily basis.
You don’t need to have seen a single movie from the 1980s to know that “Fatal Attraction” is also the story of an affair, one that plays out roughly the way it does in the film on which the Paramount+ series is based. Innocent-enough interactions quickly add up to Dan and Alex in bed together. Dan tries to end things and pretend their romantic few days never happened.

Fatal Attraction was a huge box office hit back in 1987, but it didn’t age all that well, with Glenn Close’s spurned mistress turning into a crazed horror movie villain intent on hacking her former lover to bits. Paramount+’s new series adaptation — debuting this Sunday; I’ve seen the first four episodes — aims to right that wrong by reexamining the central affair through modern eyes and showing us there’s more to the story. It’s an intriguing idea, but unfortunately, the misguided revamp only manages to lose what made this story exciting in the first place. The...

Actor Michael Douglas added to his cinematic legacy by starring in the 1992 mega-hit Basic Instinct. But Douglas didn’t do the role simply because he enjoyed the script.
Rather, he felt Basic Instinct was the ideal film to do at a time when he felt people were becoming too conservative.
Michael Douglas’ interest in gender wars once played a part in his film roles Michael Douglas | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
The role Douglas played in Basic Instinct was somewhat familiar territory for the actor. Douglas saw himself starring in films where women took control and power away from men in various ways. Apart from Basic Instinct, he’d also done Fatal Attraction and Disclosure, which sometimes put Douglas at the mercy of his female co-stars.
This wasn’t entirely coincidental on Douglas’ part. In a 1994 interview with The Morning Call, Douglas was intrigued by the shifting gender roles in real-life and the film industry.
