French indie animation powerhouse TeamTO, which announced insolvency in September, has accepted an acquisition bid from Milan-based Riva Studios, which is subject to approval from the Tribunal Commerce de Paris. A hearing was planned for today but has been postponed until Nov. 20.
TeamTO is the production company behind the Children’s & Family Emmy-winning Netflix series “City of Ghosts” and other standout kids’ programming, including “Pj Masks” and “Elena of Avalor,” among others.
Riva and TeamTO have been collaborating on the adult animated series “Junichiro Jackson” for a year, and according to TeamTo President Guillaume Hellouin, “We started discussing a potential investment [by Riva] in the studio five months ago, but these conversations always take a long time, and as things sped up in recent weeks, the conversation changed.”
Initially, TeamTo received offers from three other companies, but Hellouin says Riva’s, which came in at the last minute, was the best fit...

Most of the world knows Mark Hamill by sight. He played Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" franchise, an acting gig that has spanned over four decades. You might even have an action figure of him in your house right now. In addition, Hamill has slayed audiences with his voice work as the Joker in Batman TV shows, animated projects, and video games since 1992. Hamill's voice work (including his insanely accurate impression of "Star Wars" co-star Harrison Ford) is incredible, and while he won a Daytime Emmy for his role in "Elena of Avalor," he was never even nominated for the Joker. That's a crime, and it's unlikely to happen now that his Batman counterpart Kevin Conroy has died.
One job he did get a Daytime Emmy nomination for was voicing Darth Bane in season 6, episode 13 of the animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," entitled "Sacrifice." However, according to...

Jenna Ortega has no shortage of acting and personal accolades. Most recently, the "You" season two star has (begrudgingly) won hearts as the queen of deadpan, Wednesday Addams, in Netflix's Addams Family revival, "Wednesday."
But Ortega was a major actor long before her new Netflix role. She earned her first acting credit at 9 years old in the television show "Rob." And then, in 2014, she won fans worldwide with her portrayal of young Jane on "Jane the Virgin." In 2016, she was cast as Harley Diaz, the main character in the hit Disney Channel series "Stuck in the Middle." Clearly, Mickey Mouse is a fan because Ortega also went on to voice Princess Isabel in the animated TV series "Elena of Avalor."
She won critical acclaim for her turn as a teen grappling with surviving a school shooting in "The Fallout," and has joined the Scream franchise, appearing first in the...

The Disney animated movie Encanto is already on its way to becoming a classic. With songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the film’s focus on a Latin-American family was also monumental for representation in family films. Encanto won Best Animated Film at the Oscars and has replaced Ice Age as John Leguizamo’s calling card with kids, since he voiced Bruno in Encanto.
Mirabel and Bruno | Disney
Leguizamo spoke with Showbiz Cheat Sheet about his role in Violent Night, available on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD now. We also asked about Encanto and how young fans respond to it knowing he is the voice of Bruno. Encanto is now streaming on Disney+.
1 ‘Encanto’ is bigger than 5 ‘Ice Age’s with kids
As a comedian, Leguizamo does a lot of different voices. That’s been a boon to him in animation. He’s also voiced characters in Elena of Avalor, Bojack Horseman, Underdogs and more.

Did Christoph Waltz freak you out in "Inglorious Basterds?" He has the creepy smile thing absolutely mastered, and we're about to see it again in the upcoming Prime Video series, "The Consultant." In the show, Waltz plays Regus Patoff, a consultant who comes into a huge mobile video game company called CompWare after the CEO shoots himself. He's not exactly a comforting presence, sniffing employees to decide if they stay at the company and trimming his nose hairs in the office. I apologize if you were eating when you read that.
The earlier trailer was upsetting enough, but this one is even more unnerving. The show was created by Tony Basgallop and is directed by Matt Shakman. Shakman's style is all over this trailer, which feels at points as though you're supposed to laugh when things are looking rather murder-y. It's like the camera has very good comic timing yet...

Jenna Ortega has undergone a remarkable transformation. She first began doing national commercials as a kid before making the leap into TV, initially scooping up bit parts on network television. Slowly, those roles got bigger and bigger until her first break came with landing young Jane in The CW's "Jane the Virgin." She suddenly had everyone's attention, and she then entered her Disney era with roles in "Elena of Avalor" and "Stuck in the Middle." Eventually, Ortega was ready to break away and do other things, but worried she would be put into only one box.

Today, the streaming service released a new teaser trailer for "The Consultant," a series based on the 2015 novel of the same name by Bentley Little. The show was created by Tony Basgallop and directed by Matt Shakman.
In the teaser, we meet the very creepy Mr. Patoff, played by Christoph Waltz ("Inglorious Basterds"), who has been hired as a consultant when a gaming company called CompWare begins to decline. He's an interesting guy -- very meticulous, clipping his nose hairs in the office and generally freaking everyone out. The company employees begin to suspect that he's more sinister than even that nose hair thing makes him seem. In fact, stray nose hairs are the least of these people's worries.

The ghoulish characters were to be designed to look like their original drawings, and it was to be released in black and white. The project was canceled, rumor has it, when Universal lost the film rights to the property. Burton did not make "The Addams Family," but he did end up leaning into a black and white, stop-motion animated film in 2013 with "Frankenweenie," a remake of his 1984 live-action short film. MGM eventually took the reins on the "Family," and released a CGI animated film in 2019. MGM's film, which starred Charlize Theron and Oscar Isaac, was popular enough to warrant a sequel in 2021.

Thanks to Disney+, the Muppets are returning with an all-new show called "The Muppets Mayhem." This time, we're following the Muppets' resident rock stars Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem as they embark on an adventure to record their very first album. But just like any other Muppets production, this series from Adam F. Goldberg, Jeff Yorkes, and veteran Muppets performer Bill Barretta will feature a number of cameos from various celebrities and musicians.
Though the producers were extremely tight-lipped about the cameos in the series, Goldberg did let a big one slide during their panel at New York Comic Con. While he and Yorkes explained that the show is more grounded in the real world (meaning there's no talking vegetables or a fork in the road), they mentioned a "surreal side to Zoot," the saxophone player in the band. It would be a fourth-wall-breaking moment that still "plays in the reality within the world.

Updated with Saturday schedule: After a two-year in-person hiatus due to Covid, San Diego Comic-Con is raging back with a big footprint by streaming, TV and, well, as far as big screen feature films, let’s just say they’re creeping back.
Marvel will make some big waves with its upcoming new movies (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and Disney+ series (She-Hulk), but it will keep some powder dry for D23 in early September. Dwayne Johnson will be booming with New Line/DC’s Black Adam, along with Shazam: Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi. However, while Sony will be skipping as the Spider-Verse animated sequel is set for next year. Paramount will be giving fans an early look at Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. And there’s Kevin Smith with Clerks III.

We’re two weeks out from San Diego Comic-Con 2022, which happens to be the first real Sdcc since Covid-19 shut everything down in 2020. Yes, Comic-Con international did hold a very small, stripped down version of the event last thanksgiving but this year marks the convention’s return — hopefully — to pre-covid glory.
Naturally, you can expect a lot of great panels and events to plan for, and lucky for you, per tradition, today marks the start of daily news drops for the Sdcc 2022 schedule. So grab your calendar and let’s get started.
Paramount claimed the first Hall H panel of Sdcc 2022 with a look at “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” which starts at noon on July 21 in Hall H.

Fans of Vicente Fernandez worldwide will be able to see a series based on his life starring Jaime Camil as the music icon via Netflix, Deadline has learned. The news arrives on the heels of Fernandez’s death last week at age 81.
The project, titled The Idol of the People, is a Caracol TV production and will air on the Colombian television network. Netflix has taken world rights to the series outside of Colombia, sources said.
Camil has spoken at length on social media about how honored he is to play Chente, a shortened version of the name Vicente that served as one of his many monikers.
“Portraying Vicente Fernandez, without a doubt, is one of the biggest and most important challenges of my career,” he wrote in Spanish via Instagram in September. “In my opinion, Chente is Mexico’s biggest idol and the most monumental exponent of Mexican music all over the world.
