Back in 2016, Sam Raimi lent his name as producer to high-concept horror-thriller Don’t Breathe – a home-invasion tale with a nasty twist. Nearly a decade later, he’s back as producer on high-concept horror-thriller Don’t Move – and while it’s not part of any kind of ‘Don’t Cinematic Universe’, it’s another short, sharp genre shocker with plenty of punch.
This time, the hook is that it’s a cat-and-mouse serial-killer thriller, with a mouse who can’t actually run away. That’s because Iris (an impressive Kelsey Asbille) – mourning the loss of her son, considering suicide at the start of the film – has been injected with a “special relaxant” by the stranger who convinced her not to jump. She has 20 minutes until it takes effect, he tells her, and over the course of that time her body will become increasingly unresponsive. While the effects aren’t permanent, it’ll...

There is no question when it comes to horror and hardcore suspense thrillers that Sam Raimi knows the territory very well, so we are in good hands when we see his name attached, even if it is only as a producer this time and not as director. This is similar to the hand-off he did with 2016’s Don’t Breathe, which was directed by Fede Alvarez. Now, in the apparent second installment of Raimi’s “Don’t” franchise, we get Don’t Move, another thriller with a simplistic generic title that warns the audience they are in for a tense adventure. This one comes from the filmmaking team of Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, working off a script by T.J. Cimfe and David White that is not horror as much as the latest entry in the seemingly normal family man-turned-psychotic killer genre.

Alien: Romulus Director Fede Álvarez In Talks To Helm Sequel; New Predator Movie Also In Development
Two classic sci-fi horror franchises were recently given new leases of life, with the Predator returning to hunt his Prey in Dan Trachtenberg's 2022 movie, and the Xenomorphs back to their chest-bursting best in this year's Alien: Romulus.
Both films were critically-acclaimed and very popular with audiences, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to learn that Disney-owned 20th Century Studios is planning more instalments.
We already knew that a Prey spin-off titled Badlands was in the works, but 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell has now revealed that a "secret" Predator movie will also be with us next year that will also be helmed by Trachtenberg. Badlands will be a theatrical release, but it sounds like this other film will be going straight to streaming.
"There’s a second Predator movie that we have different plans for. Dan has actually directed both. There’s a secret Predator...

Anna Kendrick’s Woman of the Hour takes a fascinating and disturbing piece of true crime history—the story of Rodney Alcala, aka “The Dating Game Killer”—and turns it into a tense, nostalgia-soaked crime thriller. Balancing her trademark charm with unsettling tension, Kendrick directs a stylish film that thrives on its great performances, retro vibes, and a narrative that’ll make you grateful for modern-day DNA evidence. Though it occasionally feels a bit too polished for the gritty 70s setting, Woman of the Hour is a strong debut for Kendrick behind the camera.
“[The Woman of the Hour] thrives on its great performances, retro vibes, and a narrative that’ll make you grateful for modern-day DNA evidence.”
The movie opens with a single, harrowing scene that sets the tone: Rodney Alcala (Daniel Zovatto) lures a woman into a secluded spot under the guise of a photography session, only to strangle her to death. This establishes Alcala’s pattern—charm,...

Our top pick this week, “Woman of the Hour,” is the directorial debut of Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick. Kendrick stars in this Netflix true-crime thriller as Cheryl Bradshaw, a woman who had a terrifying encounter with serial killer Rodney Alcala, whom she met when they both appeared on the game show “The Dating Game” in 1978. Daniel Zovatto, best known for appearing in horror movies like “It Follows” and “Don’t Breathe,” plays Alcala, with Tony Hale playing the host, who’s based on Jim Lange.
Kendrick is one of the few people to be nominated for the Triple Crown of Acting without winning in any category. She might get there someday, especially if she keeps making movies like this, a tense and thoughtful thriller with a 91% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fede Álvarez's franchise revival, Alien: Romulus, was a big hit at the box office, so we wouldn't be at all surprised if the Don't Breathe director was already in talks to helm a sequel.
If you happened to miss the movie on the big screen, Romulus is now available to purchase on Digital platforms, and Fandango has officially released an extended preview spotlighting what might be the most intense few minutes of the movie.
In the clip, we see Rain Carradine and her makeshift crew arrive at the seemingly abandoned and decommissioned Remus space station to salvage some fuel for their journey to a more hospitable planet.
Unfortunately, they soon find out that dozens of face-huggers were in the process of being transported in stasis, and are released when Andy tries to access the ship's computer.

The Yellowstone era of Kevin Costner’s career has come to an end, and the box office disappointment of his film Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 has left some wondering how he’s going to be able to complete his four-part Western epic… but Costner isn’t just sitting around, waiting to get back to the world of Horizon. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Costner is set to star in a horror thriller called Headhunters – and not only will he have a lead role, but he’s also producing the film and co-writing the screenplay!
Cinematographer Steven Holleran will be making his feature directorial debut with this film, which is based on an idea he originated. Holleran took the idea to Costner, and they’ve crafted the script together. One of the most talked-about - not to mention divisive - elements of Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus was the introduction of another Xenomorph/human hybrid in the last act, and previously-released concept art has revealed that a number of different designs for the creature were considered.
Towards the end of the film, a pregnant and dying Kay (Isabela Merced) injects herself with the Rook android's Prometheus 5 formula to keep herself alive. Though she does survive (for a while), this ultimately results in her giving birth to a pretty damn terrifying hybrid, which kills its mother and very nearly manages to eliminate Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and Andy (David Jonsson) before being blasted into space.
Now, concept artist Dane Hallett has shared some more of his work to Instagram, and it seems the Offspring's original final form was going to look a lot more like a standard Xenomorph.

Updated: Paramount/Hasbro Entertainment’s Transformers One is out of the gate with a $39M global start. From just 50 international box office markets (representing only 40% of the overseas footprint), the first animated Transformers movie in close to 40 years grossed $14M.
The Josh Cooley-directed origins story came in below projections domestically and international is off to a softer start than hoped.
While there are still major markets to come including Brazil, Italy, Korea, China, Germany, UK and France, it’s still a bit of a head-scratcher that the offshore opening wasn’t bigger given reviews, word of mouth and how much perceived anticipation there has been for the movie. A work-in-progress screening at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival had the room on its feet in June. However, we are hearing about general softness in the marketplace — and the back-to-school period can be a tricky one. The hope here is...

Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus contains quite a few call-backs to Ridley Scott's original masterpiece and James Cameron's sequel, but - somewhat controversially - it also reintroduces a concept from one of the less popular movies in the franchise, Alien: Resurrection.
Towards the end of the film, a pregnant and dying Kay (Isabela Merced) injects herself with the Rook android's Prometheus 5 formula to keep herself alive. Though she does survive (for a while), this ultimately results in her giving birth to a monstrous human/alien hybrid that kills its own mother almost immediately.
Named "The Offspring" in the credits, this rather terrifying creature does look a lot better than the albino monstrosity from Resurrection, but introducing another hybrid did result in some backlash, and for a lot of fans, the decision tarnished the movie’s final act.

Alien: Romulus has really hit a chord with the fans of the Alien franchise. The latest entrant into the much renowned franchise has went on to have quite a successful time over its almost month long theatrical run. All that in spite of having a young ensemble (albeit one which knew its task well), and one which wasn’t on the heavier side when it comes to budgets. So how did Alien: Romulus manage to overcome all the obstacles in its path? This might be down to how it superbly tapped into the horror that made the franchise tick. And one man might be perfect for taking the franchise forward in the right direction.

Pierre Mouchet’s Schlitter: Evil in the Woods presents itself as a lean and mean slice of rural horror, set against the misty, brooding backdrop of the Vosges mountains in Eastern France. From its very title, Schlitter—referring to a rudimentary and dangerous wooden sled once used to haul timber down steep slopes—the film hints at a descent into something dark and unmanageable. What begins as a tale of childhood trauma rapidly spirals into a brutal narrative of vengeance, guilt, and the inescapable grip of the past. But does Schlitter manage to stay on track, or does it careen out of control?
The film opens with a gripping sequence that immediately sets the tone. Young Lucas (Antime Calbrie Ekeloo) is introduced as a boy struggling under the weight of both a literal and figurative burden. Tasked with controlling a schlitter laden with logs, Lucas fails and earns the wrath of his brutish father,...

Spoiler Alert: This article discusses plot points in “Alien: Romulus,” now playing in theaters.
In case you haven’t heard, Fede Álvarez’s “Alien: Romulus” is terrifying, and yes, it does feature a chestbursting scene.
But this is Álvarez, the director behind “Don’t Breathe” and the “Evil Dead” reboot. Not only is it terrifying, but his take on the iconic chestbursting scene is bloodier.
Joining Variety’s Inside the Frame, cinematographer Galo Olivares shared the one directive he had from Álvarez for the film. “Go up to see what is going on; react to the scene,” Olivares said. “It was pretty straightforward. It was no tricks… as if we were documenting something.”
Moments earlier, Andy (David Jonsson), Tyler (Archie Renaux) and Bjorn (Spike Fearn) are searching for fuel for their cryo chambers and accidentally trigger an emergency lockdown, which traps them in a section of the ship. Unbeknownst to them,...

Director Fede Álvarez was inspired playing “The Last of Us Part II” while working on “Alien: Romulus.” The storyline of the Dina character, voiced by Shannon Woodward in the game, being pregnant inspired him to make Isabela Merced’s character pregnant in the film. In an uncanny bit of prescience, now Merced is playing the video game character in Season 2 of the HBO television show.
“Fun fact: I was playing #TheLastOfUs2 while writing #AlienRomulus. The story of a pregnant Dina made me think of having the character of Kay be pregnant too,” Álvarez tweeted Friday. “Then I cast Isabella Merced to play Kay…. A year later she gets cast to play Dina on the HBO show…. True story.”

Alien: Romulus is set at some point in the 57-year gap between Ridley Scott's original and James Cameron's Aliens, which means Ellen Ripley was out there - somewhere!
The movie contains several call-backs to earlier films in the franchise, but aside from that quote towards the end, there didn't appear to be any direct references or nods to Sigourney Weaver's iconic heroine.
Or so we thought!
While chatting to the ReelBlend podcast, director Fede Álvarez revealed that there are “a few clues I’ve planted in the movie,” before adding that “it kind of defeats the whole purpose” if he points out exactly what they are.
There's been some speculation that Ripley's escape shuttle can be seen blasting away from the wreckage of the Nostromo at the beginning of the movie.
The filmmaker also suggests that there may have been early discussions about somehow working Ripley into the movie.

With spoilers, director Fede Alvarez has talked about a possible Alien: Romulus sequel, and Disney’s initial nervousness over his movie’s ending.
Nb: This is your final warning for Alien: Romulus spoilers. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, why not read our spoiler-free review?
Having made $108m on its opening weekend, and seemingly set to remain at the number one spot in several territories at the end of this week, the decision to put Alien: Romulus in cinemas rather than on a streaming service has certainly paid off for Disney.
There was at least one aspect of Fede Alvarez's space horror that made some higher-ups at Disney a little nervous, however. As the filmmaker recently told The Hollywood Reporter (via Bloody Disgusting), the film’s ending, in which Isabella Merced’s Kay gives birth to a freakish human-xenomorph-Engineer hybrid, received a certain amount of pushback from Alvarez’s corporate overlords.

This post contains spoilers for "Alien: Romulus."
Director Fede Alvarez has successfully revived the "Alien" franchise with his new film "Alien: Romulus." Marketed largely as a back-to-basics, scary space adventure with lots of practical Xenomorphs, Disney was able to get moviegoers to buy into what Alvarez was selling. It was in some ways a bait and switch, as the third act of the film takes a very big swing, bringing to life a horrific human/Xenomorph/Engineer hybrid known as "The Offspring," played by Tom Woodruff Jr. Disney, being a historically family-friendly company that isn't used to such R-rated shenanigans, somewhat understandably pushed back against this.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Alvarez went into spoiler territory with the outlet, breaking down "Romulus" and even revealing plans for a potential sequel (albeit one that would possibly be years away from actually happening). The director, whose previous credits include...

Though Alien: Romulus was met with a mostly positive response from critics and fans, one thing that has been met with almost universal backlash is the likeness of a deceased actor being used on a new character via VFX.
When Rain Carradine and her crew arrive on the derelict space station, they discover that the ship's android is still functional despite clearly being in very bad shape after a Xenomorph attack. They plug him in to discover what happened, and we see that the synthetic is the same model as Ash from Ridley Scott's original movie.
The late Ian Holm is "resurrected" for this new android via VFX, and director Fede Álvarez has now explained how this was achieved.
"Metaphysic is the company that did a lot of the work on the enhancements to the puppet," Álvarez tells THR. "We had a puppet that talked, and it was all...

If you’re avoiding Alien: Romulus Spoilers, turn away, because we’re about to talk about the ending – which the studio wasn’t sure about, and which director Fede Alvarez compares to the ending of his feature directorial debut, the 2013 take on Evil Dead.
It has been said that the story Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues crafted for Alien: Romulus is not directly connected to the other films in the Alien franchise (which isn’t exactly true), but it’s not ignoring any of the other entries, either. Alvarez has been clear about the fact that his story takes place within the established franchise continuity. In fact, it slots right in between the events of Alien and Aliens. It has the following official logline: The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of...

Alien: Romulus contains quite a few call-backs and nods to Ridley Scott's original masterpiece and James Cameron's sequel, but it also reintroduces a much-maligned concept from Alien: Resurrection.
Towards the end of the movie, a pregnant and dying Kay injects herself with the Prometheus 5 formula to keep herself alive. This results in her giving birth to a human/alien hybrid.
Named "The Offspring" in the credits, this rather terrifying creature does look a lot better than the albino monstrosity from Resurrection, but taking inspiration from one of the least popular movies in the franchise by introducing another hybrid was a bold choice that not everyone has got on board with.
While speaking to THR, director Fede Alvarez revealed that the studio did initially have some reservations.
"They did [push back] at the beginning [with regard to the Offspring], but not because they didn’t like it. They just thought, 'Is it too much? Do we really have to go there?...

‘Alien: Romulus’ director Fede Álvarez got pushback from Disney for the movie’s final horrifying scene. In the sequence, a fatally injured Kay (Isabella Merced) injects herself with Xenomorph DNA in an attempt to cure herself, but the genetic material is passed on to her unborn baby, which creates a human/alien hybrid - known as the ‘Offspring’ - which viciously bursts out of her stomach and begins feeding from the terrified space explorer and the filmmaker has now revealed the studio was initially hesitant to allow the scene because executives thought it could be "too much" for viewers to stomach. He told The Hollywood Reporter: "They asked me about many things in ‘Don’t Breathe’ and the blood rain in ‘Evil Dead’ and were like, ‘How can we even do that? How are we going to do all that stuff?’"So when I get pushback, that’s really when I go,...

With success come sequels. That's just how Hollywood works. While the business has certainly been more franchise-obsessed in recent years, it's not as though it's uncommon in the realm of horror for hits to be given the sequel treatment. So it's not remotely surprising that this conversation has already begun in the wake of the success of "Alien: Romulus," which was a big hit at the box office out of the gate. Fortunately for Disney, director Fede Alvarez already knows where to take things.
In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Alvarez was asked if he could pitch a sequel to "Romulus" tomorrow, if asked. "I definitely can," he replied. Alvarez, known for movies like "Don't Breathe" and 2013's "Evil Dead," wrote the latest "Alien" film with his frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues. Alvarez elaborated:

The 7th instalment of the Alien franchise brings some new faces, some new ideas, and some old ones too.
Cailee Spaeny has had a breakout 12 months, from her brilliant performance in Priscilla last year, to one of the year’s best films in Civil War. Now Spaeny stars in Alien: Romulus as Rain, a young girl trapped on a run-down planet, trying to find a way off for her and her adopted synthetic brother. After her efforts of working her way off the planet are halted, her chance of escape comes when a group of seemingly old friends find an abandoned Weyland ship floating just out of the planet’s atmosphere. As the old tagline goes – in space, no one can here you scream.
But in the case of “Alien: Romulus,” everyone can hear you buy a ticket at the movie theater. The latest installment in the franchise that began with Ridley Scott’s 1979 masterpiece racked up an impressive $41 million at the domestic box office over the weekend and already cleared $100 million globally. Clearly, there is still life in this franchise. And that is thanks largely to cowriter and director Fede Álvarez injecting new (acid) blood into the franchise.
Not that Álvarez’s “Alien,” which follows a group of younger characters (led by Cailee Spaeny) who are attempting to leave their dull lives on a mining planet by liberating some cryo-tubes and fuel cells from a derelict space station (only to find an altogether unpleasant lifeform living on said space station), was ever a sure thing.
Mild spoilers for “Alien: Romulus” follow.

[This story contains spoilers for Alien: Romulus.]
Alien: Romulus filmmaker Fede Álvarez has another hit on his hands.
On top of a global opening weekend of $110 million, the Uruguayan writer-director’s ninth installment in the Alien franchise has critics and audiences in increasingly rare alignment, as Romulus boasts the third-highest marks behind 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens. The “interquel” — which takes place 20 years after Ridley Scott’s seminal science-fiction horror film and 37 years before James Cameron’s action-packed sequel — may be well received, critically and commercially, but it still contains a few polarizing moves per the consensus.
Bold choices and big swings can sometimes be deal-breakers for longtime fans of a film franchise, but in the case of Romulus, there are a number of fans who, despite not being fully on board with every creative decision made, aren’t willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater. For example, when David Jonsson’s synthetic character,...

It was another big weekend at the box office, particularly for Disney as for the fourth weekend in a row, the Mouse House had the number one movie in the world. After three weeks atop the charts, "Deadpool & Wolverine" finally had to surrender the crown. The Marvel blockbuster recently passed "Joker" to become the biggest R-rated movie in history, so it's been an impressive run at the top. Now though, it's time for "Alien: Romulus" to have its day in the sun.
Directed by Fede Alvarez, the latest entry in the "Alien" franchise came in at number one at the box office with a $108 million global debut. "Romulus" pulled in an estimated $41.5 million domestically to go with a very solid $66.7 million internationally. Alien: Romulus Ends Deadpool And Wolverine's 3-Week Run As Box Office No. 1 With $100M+ Global Debut
The Xenomorphs have put an end to Wade Wilson and Logan's three-week run as kings of the box office.
Disney/20th Century Studios' Alien: Romulus had an even stronger opening weekend than expected both domestically and overseas, and has knocked Marvel Studios' Deadpool and Wolverine off the top spot.
The Fede Alvarez-directed sci-fi horror flick took in $45.1 million (well ahead of a projected high-$20 million debut) in North America to give it the second-best opening of the franchise, not adjusted for inflation. Internationally, Romulus opened to $66.7 million for a worldwide start of $108.2 million.
This is a great start for the movie, which was originally slated to go direct to streaming on the Disney-owned Hulu before the (wise) decision was made to shift to theatrical at the start of principal photography.

The "Alien" movie franchise might have had its up and downs in terms of quality, but one area where it's been remarkably consistent is at the box office. Even underperforming entries like "Alien: Covenant" and "Alien: Resurrection" more or less broke even in theaters. Following the franchise high of 2012's "Prometheus" and the subsequent financial downturn of "Covenant," it looks like horror director Fede Álvarez has steered the series back to safety with "Alien: Romulus."
Per the Hollywood Reporter, "Romulus" has pulled out ahead of earlier tracking with a $45.1 million domestic opening weekend. Add a similarly better-than-expected $66.7 million from overseas ticket sales, and the sci-fi horror sequel has scored a $108.2 million debut worldwide. That's an especially good start given that "Alien: Romulus" had a more conservative budget than "Alien: Covenant" -- around $80 million before marketing, according to Variety. “Alien: Romulus” scared up $108.2 million in its global box office debut, including $66.7 million from 49 international territories.
Disney, the studio behind the newest chapter in the long-running sci-fi horror saga, reported that overseas ticket sales are pacing ahead of “A Quiet Place: Day One” by 47% and fellow “Alien” installment “Prometheus” by 17% in like-for-like markets at current exchange rates. That trajectory is promising because Paramount’s horror prequel “A Quiet Place: Day One” has grossed $122 million internationally while “Prometheus” ended its international run with $276 million.
At the domestic box office, “Alien: Romulus” scored $41.5 million in its opening weekend, marking the second-highest start of the otherworldly series behind “Prometheus” ($51 million). Outside of the U.S. and Canada, the film enjoyed the best liftoff in China with $25.7 million — the second-biggest debut of the year for a Hollywood film in the country. “Alien: Romulus” ripped into the domestic box office with $41.5 million, marking the second-highest start in the long-running “Alien” franchise. Those ticket sales were enough for the newest chapter in Disney and 20th Century’s sci-fi horror saga to end the three-week reign of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which just overtook “Joker” as the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history with $1.14 billion.
These achievements are capping off Disney’s stellar summer streak, which ignited with “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” (May’s highest grossing movie with $397 million) and continued through “Inside Out 2” (June’s highest grossing movie with $1.597 billion) and “Deadpool & Wolverine” (July’s highest grossing movie with $1.14 billion). The studio earlier this month became the first of 2024 to surpass $3 billion in worldwide ticket sales and should continue to pad that total with “Moana 2” (Nov. 27) and “Mufasa: The Lion King” (Dec. 20) on the calendar through the year’s end.

Sunday Am Update: So much for the doldrums of August. Between Alien: Romulus and the near $100M-grossing Sony/Wayfarer Studios movie’ It Ends With Us, it’s clear we’ve shaken off all the strike jitters.

Alien: Romulus' wild ending took a big swing by featuring one of the franchise's scariest creatures yet: a human and Xenomorph hybrid.
Director Fede Alvarez's newest entry to the Alien franchise took things to a whole new level with the introduction of the terrifying hybrid, saving the horror film's best surprise in the final minutes.
From a new cast of six main characters who decided to steal highly regulated equipment aboard the abandoned Renaissance station, a surprise encounter with a plethora of facehuggers and a horde of Xenomorphs trimmed their crew into three, namely Rain (Cailee Spaeny), the android Andy (David Jonsson), and Kay (Isabela Merced).

If you haven't had the chance to see the movie yet, beware of major spoilers from this point on.

Back in 2013, director Fede Alvarez revitalized the much-loved horror franchise Evil Dead, delivering an edition that paid homage to its predecessors whilst injecting plenty of new life of its own. Just over ten years later, the director who also received acclaim for his original movie Don’t Breathe in 2016, aims to do the same thing with the Alien franchise. A passion project of his that stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), Archie Renaux (Upgraded), David Jonsson (Rye Lane) and Isabela Merced (Instant Family), Alien: Romulus follows a group of young space colonizers who come face-to-face with the most terrifying form of life in the universe, whilst scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station. Slotting beautifully in between Alien and Aliens and many decades after the events in Prometheus and Covenant, Alien: Romulus is a dread-inducing, tense and scary space horror with excellent performances, a concise story and tremendous use of practical effects.

The second entry in Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel series, "Alien: Covenant," is probably the most divisive film in the entire franchise. So much so, we at /Film released two contrasting reviews -- a positive, 8 out of 10 from Karen Han, and a pretty scathing 4 out of 10 from Josh Spiegel that came with the headline "In Space, No One Can Hear You Be This Stupid." Personally, I fall somewhere in the middle. I'm a staunch "Prometheus" defender (don't @ me) and think the downright meanness of "Covenant" is a feature and not a bug. But there's one aspect that, try as I might, I just can't shake. I'm sorry Sir Ridley Scott, but the CGI is bonk at best and ropey at worst.
The threat of the Xenomorph XX121 species in its many life cycle stages is instantly diluted when it doesn't look like it's sharing the same space as the humans it's attacking.

“I’m not going to go after the women in the audience. I’m going to attack the men. I am going to put in every image I can think of to make the men in the audience cross their legs.”
So declared Alien screenwriter Dan O’Bannon in the 2002 documentary The Alien Saga, and no one can say he failed. The most famous moment in Alien involved Kane (John Hurt) giving violent birth after a facehugger forced itself inside him. Although later contributors would leave aside the male focus, pregnancy metaphors continued to drive Alien‘s sequels and prequels. Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) finds a surrogate daughter in Aliens, gives birth to a xenomorph in Alien 3, and destroys her offspring in Alien Resurrection. Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus is now in theaters, and we're breaking down some of the movie's biggest moments and surprises - including what might be one of the most gruesome, intense, and flat out insane endings of the entire franchise.
Major spoilers follow.

Andy is incapacitated and left behind, and when Rain returns to help her "brother," a fading Kay injects herself with the Prometheus 5 formula in an effort to keep herself alive.
Rain and Andy manage to kill or evade the remaining Xenos and make it back to the drop-ship, but what was shaping up to...

Spoiler Alert: This article discusses plot points in “Alien: Romulus,” now playing in theaters.
Expectations are high for horror fans eager to see “Alien: Romulus,” the seventh chapter in the iconic sci-fi franchise. It’s directed by Fede Álvarez, who helmed two blood-splattered modern horror classics: The 2013 “Evil Dead” remake and 2016’s “Don’t Breathe.” It’s set between the first two films in the series — 1979’s “Alien” and 1986’s “Aliens” — which are both considered cornerstones of the genre. Amazingly, it’s also the first feature of one of the film’s stars, Aileen Wu. In the film, Wu plays Navarro, a spaceship pilot who has some very close encounters with the aliens. Wu is a student of the craft, having attended both NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, but admits this experience had many large-scale, surreal moments. Wu spoke to Variety about...
