As a long time fan of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, I've always wanted to see a feature film adaptation of the comic. We've seen elements from the comic brought to life, but we've never seen a completely faithful live-action adaptation.
A fan and filmmaker by the name of Wyatt Weed has made his own film adaptation of the 1986 comic and it actually turned out pretty cool! Especially considering the fact that he made the film with only $2500 over the course of 24 days in a 17-month time span.
It's not perfect and it's a little rough around the edges, but taking what went into developing it into account, it's pretty solid.
Adapted from Issue #1 of Frank Miller's seminal 1986 comic series, filmmaker Wyatt Weed (“Shadowland,” “Four Color Eulogy”) offers his unofficial fan’s take on the Batman mythos. Following the death of Robin at the hands of the Joker,...

The Dark Knight Returns: An Epic Fan Film screens Monday, Nov. 7 at 9:30pm at The Tivoli Theater as part of this year’s St. Louis International Film Festival. Ticket information can be found Here. Inspired by Frank Miller’s seminal 1986 graphic novel, local filmmaker Wyatt Weed (“Shadowland,” “Four Color Eulogy”) offers his unofficial fan’s take on the Batman mythos. Following the death of Robin at the hands of the Joker, Bruce Wayne (Weed) hung up the cowl and cape 10 years ago. But now Gotham City is in the grip of a violent crime wave, and the venerable 55-year-old billionaire has decided that the time might be ripe for the Caped Crusader’s return. It will shown with Committed. In this DC Comics fan film from former St. Louisan Terry Ziegelman, the Joker and Harley Quinn take a time-out from battling Batman to explore their own issues in couple’s therapy.

Replete with angsty real-world male drama and front-to-end pop culture reference-filled dialogue, the modest Four Color Eulogy could be compatible to a Kevin Smith movie, minus that third hook of vulgarity. (Something that is to its credit.) We open on a funeral service; a large ornate church made all the larger by the smattering of attendees. A young man takes the pulpit for a eulogy, giving way to his personal backstory that's led everyone to this point. Ironically then perhaps, it is his own perceived lack of personal backstory that's fueled so much of his life choices. This is Chris (Jason Contini), a guy who's lived his life in the dark as to who his biological father is. Actually, the film opens just before...
