    Could have been better

I feel the first thing I should mention in my user comments for this movie is that I am not a big fan of Batman - I haven't read the comics in years, and I only have a basic knowledge of the character of Batman and the other characters in the series. So I thought I might not understand what would go on in this movie. As it turned out, my basic knowledge was enough to make me understand everything that went on in this particular story. But while I found the story coherent, to some degree I was disappointed with it. The main problem I had was the whole father/son angle. It's hardly touched on at all. You would think that both father and son finding out all of a sudden that the other existed would lead to some interesting drama and character development, but that simply doesn't happen at all. The script seems more concerned with action than anything else. Now, some of the action is fairly well done, with some surprisingly violent moments that got my attention. (There is additional adult material that makes the movie probably unsuitable for younger children.) As for the animation, it is a little stiff and jerky at times, but it's well designed and catches your eye. In the end, the movie is kind of mediocre, best suited when you are in a really undemanding mood.

Way too much suspension of disbelief required

The things that some characters do are so ridiculous you can't really get into the story. The story itself is all pretty rushed and there's hardly any emotion or connection between characters and plot events. Could have been so much better.

Animation was pretty decent. Nightwing, as always, is awesome.

Not as bad as the reviews make out ... not as good as DC ...

    ... could have done.

The execution, the voice acting is indeed below par in places. This is true.

But I confess the story got to me. Usually any production that starts with the words "SON OF" is doomed. Literally.

But the story hooked me so I tolerated the subpar production values and actually had a fairly good time.

More than once I even wondered if somewhere out there was a producer who would find the cash to do this live action but given the audience expectations for a live action BATMAN, especially after Dark Knight, I guess that REALLY WOULD BE A FANTASY.

It looked better in the Trailer

This was a terrible addition to the Batman movies series. I was not very impressed, I felt this movie was rushed. Unrealistic in various aspects, not how the typical Batman movies are suppose to be.

Part of why Batman is so popular is because viewers enjoy watching a man using his intellect and natural resources to solve crimes and ultimately capture the villains.

The almighty "trailer" makes any movie look hype and all the rave. Which it did justice for this movie, but 30minutes into the movie I could already tell I was in for disappointments.

"Damion" was way overpowered, being able to take on the world's top assassin within the DC universe? That's absurd! Slade or Death-stroke is an entity to be feared and not to be so easily defeated by Damion who has not even reached his prime yet.

Also the character Batman was ineffectively orchestrated, he did not have the mysterious, lone-wolf, and independent personality which stays true to the Comics and previous movies or series and original concept character for that matter.

Overall the movie was lacking and I think a fair appraisal is, 5-5.5 out of 10. This move will keep you entertained, but not worth a second watch.

    Color me impressed...

Initially when I sat down to watch this 2014 DC animated movie titled "Son of Batman" here in 2020, I was thinking that it was just going to be another run-of-the-mill animated "Batman" movie that come a dime a dozen. But still, I hadn't already seen it, so of course I ended up sitting down to watch it.

And color me impressed. This DC animated movie is actually among some of the best of their animated movies set in the "Batman" universe. Sure, it was a bit cliché with the son and the title and all, but believe you me, the storyline was actually rather good and entertaining.

"Son of Batman" also make use of a good art style that is very reminiscent of the 1980s cartoons, such as "G.I. Joe" for example, so that was definitely something that appealed to me, as I grew up watching the 1980s cartoons. And the animation was very smooth and natural, making the animated movie look rather good.

With this being an animated movie, having a proper voice cast is very crucial to the success of the movie. And that they did have. I was impressed to hear the voices of talents such as Morena Baccarin and Giancarlo Esposito in this animated movie.

All in all, "Son of Batman" is quite worth taking the time to sit down and watch. I am rating it a seven out of ten stars.

Alfred Pennyworth: I hope this isn't too cramped for you. That door heads to your bath. The other, to a game room. And you also have this far your amusement. Naturally, you have the run of the mansion.

Damian Wayne: Of course. I know that. Prepare some tea, Pennyworth.

Alfred Pennyworth: Brown sugar instead of white, fresh-cut lemon. A china cup. Perhaps master would like some warm mixed nuts and a moist hand towel.

Damian Wayne: Watch yourself, Pennyworth. I'm not so young that I don't understand sarcasm.

Alfred Pennyworth: While I am much too old to care.

    • Crazy credits
During the credits there are stills from the fight, which we did not see, between Damian and Nightwing from earlier, after Ubu's defeat.
