Dana Carvey has returned to co-hosting duties on Fly and the Wall, his podcast with fellow Saturday Night Live alum David Spade, following the November death of his son Dex.
Fly on the Wall broke the typical interview format – in which Carvey and Spade interview comedians, many of whom have ties to SNL – to celebrate the occasion, delivering a special shorter episode titled “Welcome Back Dana!” On the episode, Carvey expressed his gratitude to everyone that reached out to show their support, saying, “If you’re listening to our podcast, you probably know about my family’s loss…I just wanted to say that the amount of outpouring online and emailing and people I still haven’t been able to call back is incredible.”

With the fall TV season well underway, broadcasters are beginning to get a sense of whether they have a hit on their hands with their new shows — and if fans will keep showing up for long-standing unscripted favorites as the Hollywood strikes has kept scripted fare off the schedule.
Several of this season’s launches benefitted from NFL game lead-ins, including overall ratings winner “60 minutes” (CBS), which scored a 1.73 rating in the key 18-49 broadcast demo during its Sept. 17 debut, according to Nielsen live-plus-same-day figures. This season’s runner-up for highest rating was Fox’s “Krapopolis,” which premiered as the most-watched animation series debut of the past decade with a 1.18 rating following an NFL doubleheader.
Other high-ranking premiere contenders include unscripted favorites like CBS’ “Survivor,” which scored a 0.84 rating, ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” which locked down a 0.64 demo rating, and NBC’s “The Voice,” which drew a 0.6 rating.

It was a relatively busy night for the broadcast networks, featuring several premieres.
We'll start with Magnum P.I.
The canceled drama returned with 3.5 million viewers and a 0.3 rating.
The series is up a bit in the demo and total viewers vs. its April midseason finale, and with word-of-mouth strong, there's a good chance the series can grow from here.
What a difference a decent timeslot makes, am I right?
Quantum Leap Season 2 kicked off earlier in the night at 2.9 million viewers and a 0.3 rating in the demo.
The time-traveling drama reached its best total viewer tally since its series premiere in September 2022.

With the fall season moving ahead with fewer scripted series than before, it was a night of mixed returns for the broadcast networks.
Survivor Season 45 kicked off with 5.1 million viewers and a 0.8 rating in the demo, right on par with its prior premiere.
A 0.8 in today's climate is a solid result.
The series also typically benefits from strong post-airdate viewership, so we can't wait to see how it holds up this season.
The Amazing Race followed with 2.6 million viewers and a 0.3 rating, dropping quite a bit from its Survivor lead-in.
CBS would have been wise to keep the reality series at 60 minutes, with Big Brother and 9 p.m.
The network has been bumping Big Brother around the schedule, so it's getting difficult to keep up to speed with the show.

“The Masked Singer” has arrived at its 10th season, and it’s celebrating big all season long — with some help from a member of newly reunited (if only just temporarily?) *Nsync, a star of “The Office,” and several famous alums.
TheWrap can exclusively reveal that Lance Bass and Kate Flannery (Meredith from “The Office”) are among the show’s special surprise clue givers this season. Now, will they have any connection to those who are competing? That part remains unclear for now, but as always, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
Kelly Osbourne, who competed as Ladybug in the second season of “The Masked Singer,” will also help give out some clues this season, along with NFL wide receiver and free agent DeSean Jackson, “Snake Oil” host David Spade, and Poppy and Branch from “Trolls” for a special episode themed to the movie.

The fall 2023 season has been a test of flexibility for all of broadcast television. As the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes continue, the Big 5 have had to rework their schedules to accommodate for the lack of new scripted content. Yet out of all these networks, Fox, with its long history of animation, reality programming and sports, has emerged as one of the least impacted.
When asked if this pivot has led to Fox thinking about ditching live-action scripted series altogether, Allison Wallach, president of unscripted programming at Fox Entertainment, was clear: “Not at all.”
“What’s great about being this broadcast network is that we offer a little bit of everything, between scripted, drama, comedy, animation, sports and unscripted,” Wallach told TheWrap.
“It’s unfortunate not to have some of the live-action series in the fall that we had hoped, along with our creative partners. But we’re still coming into this fall guns blazing,...
