    Off the rails

Show had promise and a solid first episode reminiscent of the movie (which is where this all began) but quickly jumped on the modern day crazy train where all Caucasian men are stupid and weak and all women are super heroes, at least as forced by Hollywood. We all seem to be paying for Harvey Weinstein and the result is horrible writing and zero credibility in the screen writing business. I like Juno Temple but she weighs about 95 pounds and they have her overpowering 220 plus pound physically fit men. It's fiction, yes, but it's absurd this narrative seems to be the norm now even though it's not fooling anyone. When will this nonsense end? Just don't make these shows if that's the route you're thinking of going. Women are strong in other ways but they are not going to overpower much larger and stronger men. Jennifer Jason Leigh has had a decent career and some great performances but this is not one of them. Sadly she's overplaying her role in this season to the point of it being sadly obvious.

By the way for everyone that keeps questioning if it's a true story because of the opening credits spoiler alert: it's not. The reason is they have that is the original movie had the exact same opening. And no, that wasn't a true story either.

    Fargo season 5: the excellence

Noah Hawley has done it again. Fargo in one of the best written, produced and directed series around. Not only the storyline gets more involving and multilayered episodes after episode, but also the dramatic progression keeps increasing, the tension keeps mounting. This quite simply excellent television, with a fantastic cast of very talented actors playing believable characters, with their past and motivations perfectly layered. This episode is just another essential piece of a great puzzle that's evolving constantly, keeping the viewers always on the edge of their seats. Intelligent, top quality drama/thriller.

    Average at best

Overall better than season 3 and 4 but it's not great, certainly not worth the high scoring it gets here.... The main female lead is not likeable and maybe it's time to stop copying the other seasons with a female police officer who all have the same appearance, accent, etc.... Maybe some innovation would help but I think it's time to wrap up after this season.

    Perfect !

I´m so happy to see FARGO Season 5 being least as brilliant as Season 1 and 2.

Juno Temple´s performance is just breathtaking, and in this episode, particularly Jennifer Jason Leigh impressed me - her embodiment of that hardboiled alpha-woman is really frightening. Moreover, this whole story about toxic masculinity, paleo-spirituality, libertarianism and the "american way of life" financed by credit and debt is as accurate and sharply drawn as it is sarcastic.

The whole cast of the show is perfect, great writing, and the score is so on-point, never too much, never cliche´. I can´t wait for the next episode.

    Home Alone Freakin' Season

From the start this season has been very off. The pacing is off. The casting is off. Even most scenes, to me, feel just 2 to 3 minutes too long.

I write this as a huge fan of this show.

I almost gave up on this season after episode 3 (one of my least favorite episode of the series - not just this season).

But something happens in THIS episode that really changed my entire perspective on the plot. This episode flipped my understanding of the world and characters. Honestly, if it weren't for this episode, I might've dropped it altogether.

From here thru episode 9 is as good as the season gets. Just great television all around.

That being said, Ole Munch might be the weirdest character in any season of Fargo - which is saying a lot!

All in all, it still turns out to be an enjoyable season. I like this season more than season 3 - which was very slow for me - as this season really explores topics I've never seen explored in TV. I often said to myself, "wow... this is... dark." Glad to have seen it turn around and hope for another season!

    • Trivia
When Lorraine says to Deputy Olmsted, "or are you going to sit drinking coffee in the one house in the state where I know that girl ain't at", that is a direct quote from the Coen Brothers' movie Raising Arizona, where Nathan Arizona Sr. says the same thing to the FBI agents about his son who has been kidnapped.
    • Goofs
Lorraine threatens Vivian Duggar by saying that his undercapitalized bank will be investigated by the SEC. In actuality, bank safety and soundness is examined by the FDIC, the Federal Reserve Board, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, but not the SEC.
    • Quotes

Lorraine Lyon: Listen, slick... nothing would make me happier than to put that girl in a box marked "Return to Sender", between you and me. But she's married to my son, and he loves her, and she's the mother to my granddaughter, whom I'm fond of, so you need to put your big boy pants on and take the hit.

Roy Tillman: Bible says the wife is the property of the husband. Therefore, that makes your son a thief. If we're talking about who has the more legitimate claim.

Lorraine Lyon: You know, I've heard of you. You're one of those constitutional sheriffs.

Roy Tillman: Yes, I am. Defender of freedom and protector of the common man against the tyranny of the state and all its wicked demands.

      Lorraine Lyon: Taxes?

      Roy Tillman: Oh, yeah.

Lorraine Lyon: The social safety net?

Roy Tillman: Well, I'd spit, but, uh...

Lorraine Lyon: Respect for the otherly-abled?

Roy Tillman: The whole multi-cultural panoply. Billy has two mothers, et cetera, et cetera.

Lorraine Lyon: So... you want freedom with no responsibility. Son, there's only one person on Earth who gets that deal.

      Roy Tillman: Mmm. The president?

      Lorraine Lyon: A baby.

      [chuckles]

Lorraine Lyon: You're fighting for your right to be a baby.
