    The eternal game...

THE OUTLINE IS OLD, WELL-KNOWN AND... beloved. The eternal dipole. Male and female, the two initial poles, and among them a potential difference that creates the necessary energetic environment for everything to be born. The ancient game that nobody knows when it started but it is certain that it will never finish. Power play, submission, pleasure. A continuous flow of sexual energy, bridges built and crushed with a nod, a breath, a word, a moment of denial or a decision to throw anyone into the arms of Infinity ... with any costs, with any consequences. Cinema has always loved these schemes, these games, especially between the mentors and the schoolgirls, the gripping milfs and the coward, puzzled, 'enchanting' adolescent, the 'next door' teenagers... And the truth is that these movies, as simplistic or ' primitive ' are - as no one seeks psychological depths in the analyses of characters, nor complex internal routes- have always been watched with pleasure. And sometimes even with awe! Beyond any structural failures, the movie has its virtues. The main, to me at last, is that the aim is not to convict the somatic or sexual pleasures. The film leaves a light aroma despite its rather dramatic background. And if it's worth to be watched is because of this exact feeling that leaves at the end. If someone expects more in another, more ... kinky area ... well he should search for other movies, made by much more sophisticated filmmakers that were based on literary masterpieces and filmed in seasons where sex had conquered much greater levels of exculpation... socially and philosophically.

    Misses the mark

Charlie comes home, and there is a party going on. But in the garage is his father who hanged himself, and Charlie blames himself. Never mind that his mother was having an affair. Being 16, he is at that rebellious stage in life. His mode of travel is by bicycle, and one day comes up to this large house, and sees a beautiful woman, Maggie. Maggie puts up a sign at a local store for a gardener, and Charlie applies, telling her he is 18, and can be discrete. One might think one stepped into a French movie, rather than one from Australia, as there is plenty of smoking. It turns out Maggie is a BDMS Mistress, although if one is looking for scenes or insight, one will be disappointed. Needless to say, Charlie falls in love with Maggie, which is not a good idea. One might say it gets complicated. In reality, it simply gets messy and loses any impact over a serious subject.

Certainly not a cure for anything

Locked down due to coronavirus & this popped up on free TV. Yes there's still free TV.

Considering the quality of this movie? the makers should pay the viewer.

I'd imagine Rachel Blake was doing someone a favour to appear in this trash. I thought Emmanuel was a cross dresser. As for the kid............

    Definition of a Turkey

A 16 year old boy finds his father's body that just committed suicide. At the church funeral service he discovers his mother had been having an affair. Then a woman moves into the neighborhood that is a professional dominatrix. The boy and dominatrix have a relationship of sorts.

This movie is short on story. The worst problem for me is there are a number of things the characters do that I would never believe would happen in real life. For instance very early in the movie, the boy several times invades the dominatrix's property and personal space, yet she accepts him into her home and gives him a job as gardener/caretaker. I don't think so especially given her occupation. In another very early scene the mother is kissing her adulterer boyfriend at the church right after the funeral service before everyone has left. Are they that stupid or the director thinks we are? There are several other instances that a half-intelligent person would not do. So it's impossible to buy into the characters at all.

Emmanuelle Béart who plays the dominatrix does a poor job portraying the role. I never believed she could have been one. It should be said, that there is very little on camera scenes of S&M, with any slaves or her in action as it were. The trailer and poster make it seem like it was a larger part.

This movie just doesn't say much. The characters are not believable. Some scenes move so slow without moving the story. This is one of the absolute worst movies I have seen in some time. A total turkey!

    What a mess

I watched the trailer and i was compelled to watch this film immediately, the kind of story, and above all the presence of the beautiful Emmanuelle Béart, of witch a'm a fan from back in the 80's.

But i was disappointed from almost the beginning of the movie, the story is a mess, between a confused adolescent, a confused middle-aged-BDSM-woman, a cheating-with-your-best-friend, and all together make this mess, that the director and witter, didn't know how to solve.

Is it so difficult to tell a story ? beginning, middle part and ending, with some kind of sense ?

What Stephen Lance (i know it's his first major film) did was just a mesh-up of situations and none of them make a connection, and when you wait for 1h35min for some kind of explanations, BANG !!!!, nothing.

Lovely Emmanuelle Béart, you should of stayed in France, and skipped this film.

The 3 out of 10 is almost all to you.

Stephen Lance kept Emmanuelle Beart and Harrison Gilbertson apart, rehearsing them separately and scheduling scenes in such a way that he "could see their relationship unfold, so that there was a kind of discovery happening on camera".
