Tony Award winner Jez Butterworth, Academy Award winner Peter Straughan, and BAFTA and Tony Award winner Jack Thorne are set to write the screenplays for Sony Pictures, Sam Mendes and Neal Street Productions’ biopics of “The Beatles,” whose stories will be told with four distinct theatrical feature films, the studio announced on Wednesday.

The films mark the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles – John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr – have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film.

Conceived by Mendes, who will direct the four theatrical feature films – one from each band member’s point-of-view – the movies will tell the astonishing story of the greatest band in history.

The four films will star Harris Dickinson (as John Lennon), Barry Keoghan (as Ringo Starr), Paul Mescal (as Paul McCartney) and Joseph Quinn (as George Harrison).

Mendes conceived and will direct the four films, each from a different band member’s point of view, intersecting to tell the story of the iconic group.

At the time of writing, Jack Black’s video game adaption has collected $398 million at the domestic box office and $475 million internationally, leaving it with a worldwide cumulative haul of $873 million. This $398 million domestic total is enough to make it the fifth-highest-grossing movie of all time forWarner Bros., its primary distributor. Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) and Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone) are set to star in Ruin, a new thriller based on the screenplay by Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo (Marvel’s Eternals), which topped the Black List in 2017.

Hailing from Niki Caro, the director behind titles like The Mother and Mulan, the film is set in the ruins of post-wwii Germany, following a recently released camp prisoner (Gadot) who is forced to make an unlikely alliance with a German soldier (Schoenaerts) in a mutual quest to exact revenge on a Nazi SS squad. It brings Caro back to WWII following her work on The Zookeeper’s Wife, a Holocaust drama for Focus Features, starring Jessica Chastain.

Marc Butan will produce for MadRiver Pictures, alongside Jaron Varsano and Gadot for Pilot Wave Motion Pictures, Caro. Ludascripts’ Gillian Hormel and Aloe Entertainment’s Mary Aloe will exec produce alongside the Firpos, with Evan Powell overseeing for MadRiver.

Adrianne Palicki has some terrible superhero luck. Not only was the actor's Wonder Woman pilot shelved, she recently revealed that her Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. character, Bobbi Morse, was supposed to have appeared in other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects before those opportunities evaporated.

Speaking to The Direct, Palicki, whose S.H.I.E.L.D. character was known as Mockingbird in the comics, shared details about negotiations that preceded the ABC television series in 2014. "The conversation I had when I signed on actually to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was either I was going to be participating in the films or have a spin-off," the actor explained.

World of Wonder (Wow) founders Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato – two of the most successful creators in the documentary and unscripted spaces – have been named Guests of Honor at the upcoming Sheffield DocFest.

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for Nonnas, Vince Vaughn's star-studded new comedy that promises to serve up some big laughs when it hits the streaming service on May 9. Animated movies have long been crowd-pleasers, working with audiences of all ages. This can, perhaps, be attributed to the freedom that comes with the medium. With the genre’s history dating back to the late 1800s, it’s fascinating to see how animation has evolved from short, silent films to this billion-dollar culture machine.

While box office data began to be tracked in the 1920s, it wasn’t until the late 20th and early 21st centuries that animated films began breaking financial records. Today, a select group of these films has achieved rather extraordinary success, capturing the hearts (and wallets) of millions worldwide.

In 2015, Disney released its live-action remake of their beloved 1950 animated classic Cinderella. The remake charmed audiences and many critics, becoming the 12th top-grossing film of the year. Since its success, Disney has remade more of its animated films as live-action, including Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King.

In 2025, Disney dares to make a live-action remake of the animated classic that started it all, the 1937 film Snow White. Rachel Zegler from West Side Story portrays the fair princess, while Gal Gadot from Wonder Woman slides into the role of her evil stepmother.

The movie begins with two little animals opening the fairy tale book Snow White, and a voiceover recites the classic opening line, “Once upon a time.” The narrator then reveals that Snow White was born during a significant snowstorm, leading her parents, the King and Queen, to name her Snow White.

Before she was out there saving the world with her lasso of truth and Amazonian strength, Gal Gadot almost took a very different career path. Currently awaiting the release of her upcoming movie Snow White, Gadot reflected on her acting career and noted how things would have been different, had she not been asked to audition for a James Bond movie.

While it was her role as ex-Mossad agent Gisele Yashar in the Fast & Furious franchise that put Gal Gadot on the map, her real breakthrough came after being cast as the Dceu's Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

A small but memorable supporting role saw her Diana Prince team up with the Dark Knight and Man of Steel to battle Doomsday. Talking to Variety, Gadot credits filmmaker Zack Snyder with creating the first big screen Wonder Woman as we know her.

"Zack Snyder really had the vision for Wonder Woman," she told the trade. "To do the solo Wonder Woman movie with a partner like Patty Jenkins was life-changing. I think we both felt like we were just a vessel to tell a story that is much bigger than us, that the world was ready for - a complete, empowered woman who is strong and at the same time vulnerable.

We have already written about the House of David, Amazon’s Biblical series that focuses on the stories from the Old Testament and the establishment of the Jewish state in ancient times. The series premiered on February 27, 2025 and ended after five episodes.

And while the series received mixed (not to say polarizing) reviews, fans of the project can rejoice as Amazon has confirmed that the series has been reviewed for a second season, so there will be more to come in the future.

Based on the information provided by Amazon, the series allegedly amounted to 22 million viewers in its first 17 days of release, although it is unknown how Amazon calculates these numbers and what a “viewer” is according to them (most streaming services go by minutes watched).

Prime Video is returning to the House of David.

The Amazon-owned streamer has renewed House of David for a second season. The pickup for the biblical drama comes a couple weeks before the show’s first season finale, set for April 3.

The series tells the story of David (played by Michael Iskander) and his rise to become a powerful and celebrated king of Israel. Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn of the Wonder Project are creators, writers and executive producers of House of David; Wonder Project produces with Amazon MGM Studios, Nomadic Pictures, Argonauts, Kingdom Story Company and Lionsgate Television.

“We are humbled by the extraordinary reaction this show has earned from the faith audience worldwide,” Erwin and Gunn said in a statement. “Thanks to them and our partners at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, Wonder Project will bring more of the Bible and this epic saga to a global audience.

If you’re a fan of House of David, then consider your prayers answered: Prime Video has renewed the faith-based drama for Season 2.

Food delivery startup Wonder has acquired streaming culinary and lifestyle platform Tastemade as part of its overall efforts to create a “super app” for meals that will include features like takeout, delivery, meal kits, how-to videos and recipes.

The Wall Street Journal said the transaction was valued at $90 million, and is the latest merger to involve Wonder, which also acquired food delivery service Grubhub last year and meal kit delivery startup Blue Apron in 2023.

Over the past few years, Tastemade has successfully raised more than $130 million in investment capital from companies like Liberty Media, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Redpoint Ventures and Comcast Ventures.

Tastemade offers a streaming platform that includes dozens of culinary-focused shows, along with a companion app that was recently refreshed to offer more than 12,000 chef-inspired recipes and interactive features like a virtual recipe box and the ability for subscribers to create customized shopping lists.

Disney's anticipated Snow White remake seems set to dwarf the competition as it draws nearer to its anticipated spring release. The upcoming live-action adaptation is on track for a solid opening despite the controversy surrounding its lead star, Rachel Zegler.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the updatedSnow White is projected to earn $53 million domestically during its opening weekend. The episode count and runtimes for Marvel Television's Wonder Man have been revealed. Unfortunately, the Marvel Cinematic Universe series is set to continue a Disney+ runtime trend that has not won over the majority of the streamer's subscriber base.

In an interview with Collider, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel's Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, revealed that Wonder Man will consist of eight episodes, which is two less than the 10-episode count that was originally reported for the Disney+ series. Winderbaum also shared that there will not be a consistent length for the episodes, explaining that streaming allows for a little bit of leeway with the runtimes. "There's a little bit of some streaming leeway in the episode runtimes, so I think our shortest episode is 20-something, and our longest is, like, 40-something," the Marvel head revealed. Scott Foley has signed on to star and executive produce It’s Not Like That, a faith based drama at Prime Video, Deadline has confirmed. It’s Not Like That, from Wonder Project, was given a cast-contingent series order at Prime Video in November and Foley’s casting now lifts that contingency.

Foley will play the series regular role of Malcolm, a minister and recent widow.

Per the logline, It’s Not Like That follows Lori, who is freshly divorced with two teens. Malcolm’s a minister and recently widowed dad of three. Their families once did everything together, but now Lori and Malcolm must navigate their newly minted singledom, parenthood and the complexities of Malcolm being a modern-day minister. Is this the beginning of a love story? It’s not like that. Or is it?

The series comes from Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson, who created the series and serve as showrunners.

Warner Bros. Discovery is restructuring its video game division and shutting down three of its studios as it refocuses its efforts on some core intellectual property.

In connection with the restructuring, the company also said that it is ending development of its Wonder Woman game, which it first announced back in 2021. Instead, the company will focus on “building the best games possible with our key franchises -– Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones,” per a Warner Bros. Games spokesperson.

The spokesperson added that three of the company’s game studios: Monolith Productions, Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego, will shut down amid the changes. Monolith had been developing the Wonder Woman game.
