This was originally pitched as a found footage film.
Not normally interested in genre films, Keri Russell was attracted to the project because of its depiction of a mother fighting for her family.
Other tributes to Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) include the food strewn on the floor in the kitchen, screws reversing themselves out of their holes, and the bright light that shines through the slats in the door.
