This story must begin with a prologue. Way back in 1989, TV guru J. Michael Straczynski had brought his idea for "Babylon 5" to Paramount, hoping the studio would produce it and turn it into a full-blown sci-fi show. He presented Paramount with a series bible, character bios, artwork, and even 22 brief story ideas that he intended to write for the show. The series was set in the mid-23rd century aboard a space station that was located in a neutral part of space. Many aliens would pass through, and the show's main characters, part of a peacekeeping military-like organization, had to tackle all the natural intrigue of being in that position. Paramount turned down "Babylon 5," but Straczynski ended up selling his pitch to Warner Bros. a few years later.

Star Trek almost got a reboot from one of the greatest sci-fi creators of all time! Imagine how different things could have been with that!
In 1993, sci-fi fans were buzzing over the premiere of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The spinoff took a different direction with the franchise, set on a space station and pushing more conflict than other Star Trek shows.
The series would of course become a beloved hit that became more epic with the Dominion War. However, its premiere was mirrored by the syndicated premiere of Babylon 5. Obviously, two shows set on a space station filled with alien life and later involving intergalactic war would be an odd coincidence for fans and reporters.

We’re living in the golden age of geek TV, treated to an embarrassment of weekly riches dumped right onto our screens, delivering us new slices of the most treasured franchises we have, made with huge budgets. Some of us still remember the age of five TV channels — of taping Star Trek: The Next Generation off BBC 2 on Wednesday evenings and begging a friend with Sky to record Deep Space Nine and the new series of The X-Files for us, of feeling like a new Star Wars film was so far away as to feel non-existent, and of having literally one new episode of Doctor Who to make do with for an entire decade. When the only way to see proper, grown-up Anime was to stay up until 3am watching Channel 4. When Babylon 5 felt utterly tedious, but you watched it anyway because it had spaceships in it. When...

Before he was writing half the shows on Paramount+, Taylor Sheridan was an actor. The man behind shows like "Yellowstone" and "Tulsa King" and the scripts for films including "Sicario" and "Hell or High Water" cut his teeth with screen work, a pastime he occasionally returns to when he needs someone to play, say, a cool cowboy who's dating Bella Hadid.
Years before he became known as a Hollywood cowboy, I knew Sheridan as a mysterious man named Danny Boyd in the plucky teen detective show "Veronica Mars," and as the hate-worthy cop Deputy David Hale on FX's "Sons of Anarchy." Those may have been two of Sheridan's most high-profile TV roles, but they're far from his only acting credits. He's had bit parts going all the way back to "Walker, Texas Ranger" in 1995, and can be seen in one-off roles in shows like "CSI," "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,...

Alien: Romulus is the next big hit in alien entertainment, rejuvenating a series that had a couple of spectacular horror movies and several lackluster installments. Extraterrestrial movies have always been a popular theme in sci-fi and horror, from wildly successful franchises such as Star Wars to cult classics like Mars Attacks! The best aspect of this sub-genre is experiencing the unique ways the stories capture these otherworldly beings.
Though many of these movies are iconic pop culture sensations, others fall under the radar. Some are older films that viewers forgot about, and others are poorly reviewed films that viewers never gave a second chance. Many of these overlooked alien movies are underrated, offering an odd and unconventional twist to the genre that brings something fresh to the expansive array of extraterrestrial stories.

Bradford English had a screen acting career that spanned from 1971 to 2010, and over those 39 years he racked up more than 70 credits – but for many of us, he’s best remembered for playing the drunk, abusive blowhard John Strode in the 1995 horror sequel Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. Sadly, we lost English right before Halloween this year, as it has been reported that he passed away on October 25th in Pasadena, California at the age of 82.
English was born in South Orange, New Jersey on January 16, 1942. His obituary can be found online and says he “was a true force of life and was filled with love. He was a husband and a family man who was survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart Cecelia Gail English. Together they created a beautiful family of four children: James Bradford English Jr., Jeffrey Brennan English, Kristin Lunney English and Colleen Margaret Theresa English.

Chris Weitz’s new horror movie “AfrAId” does something I didn’t know could be done yet: It makes me nostalgic for the early 2010s. That was 15 years ago? Holy moly, am I getting old. Wait, holy moly, I just unironically wrote “holy moly.” Twice — no! Three times! Oh, I don’t like that. I don’t like that at all.
But there’s something to like about “AfrAId.” Weitz’s latest is a throwback to the early days of Blumhouse, when the horror studio made waves by producing extremely cheap horror movies and making a tidy profit even if they weren’t all big hits. The early Blumhouse formula was about seemingly normal families squaring off against evil in their seemingly normal houses, a premise that makes for a simple but effective allegory for suburban strife. Sometimes it was a ghost, sometimes it was a demon, one time it was aliens.

Alien movies achieve realism by depicting human terror and government intrigue in the face of extraterrestrial contact. Films like Contact and Arrival explore the realistic consequences of global alien arrival and communication challenges. Dark Skies and Fire in the Sky draw inspiration from real alien abduction accounts, aiming to generate deep fear and realism.
Movies centered around extraterrestrial life have always been a popular subject, but it's a select few of them that manage to truly depict what genuine human contact with aliens might realistically look like. Compared to other types of paranormal phenomena commonly depicted in movies, alien stories have the greatest chance of becoming real, with real-world governments even admitting to studying unidentified aerial phenomena. The best alien movies typically take advantage of this by thinking about what contact with extraterrestrial life would realistically mean.
To make a movie about aliens feel realistic, there are several things that must be mastered.

Let’s dream the crow black dream. I’m Niki Minter and this week on the Eric Draven files, we have The Crow: Stairway to Heaven. This is the first time we have a series that I feel lukewarm about. However, this is one that does have its fans and there’s a reason, aside from the upcoming reimagining, that we’re discussing it. This should be a fun time.
Okay, so, I caught Stairway on the Sci-Fi channel a few times here and there during its initial run. It caught my interest but never enough to start it from the beginning. What’s interesting about this is that it’s based on the 1994 movie adaptation which was pulled from James O’Barr’s original comic. Mark Dacascos would be the one and only person ever to fill the role once held by Brandon Lee. This is an interesting take, right?...

The Dark Skies movie showcases the chilling presence of the Greys, a malicious alien race targeting children and tormenting families. The film's twist ending reveals that the aliens abducted the eldest son, not the youngest as initially suspected, adding to the terror. Dark Skies highlights the terrifying nature of the aliens' evil motives, causing chaos and ruining the Barrett family's lives in a cruel manner.
The malicious alien race known as "The Greys" causes chaos for the Barrett family in the cliffhanger in the Dark Skies ending. The Blumhouse movie is a callback to the alien invasion sub-genre. The film follows Lacy and Daniel Barrett, who live an unassuming life with their sons, Jesse and Sammy, in the suburbs. Strange events begin to plague the Barrett family, and they eventually realize something sinister and otherworldly is to blame. Lacy and Daniel go to extreme measures to protect their sons and...

After its initial reveal last year, developer Deklazon had dropped a new story trailer for their upcoming alien abduction title They Are Here: Alien Abduction Horror. The trailer focuses on journalist Taylor Fox, who is investigating an alien abduction involving the Sherman family at Grayswood Farm, and the consequences of him looking a little too far into someone’s business.
Wearing its obvious inspiration from The X-Files on its sleeve, They Are Here also draws from films like Signs, Dark Skies, The Gracefield Incident, War of the Worlds and others. The game follows journalist Taylor Fox, who is contacted by a farmer named Peter Sherman, who tells Fox about terrifying, inexplicable phenomena occurring on his farm. Fox heads over to investigate, but finds the home deserted. The animals on the Sherman farm are sick, infected by some parasite. From a note, Fox learns that the farmer’s daughter Megan had disappeared.

Despite a strong storyline and talented cast, "Legion 2" never happened. However, a follow-up series called "Dominion" was created, which expanded the movie's worldbuilding. "Dominion," set 25 years after "Legion," received better critical ratings but was canceled after two seasons. The exact reason for its cancelation was not disclosed, but low viewership and a decline in viewership throughout the 13-episode season may have played a role. Anthony Head, who starred in "Dominion," suggested that changing the show's airing schedule and a lack of active promotion by Syfy could have affected its viewership and contributed to its cancelation.
The 2010 movie, Legion, was a hit when it first came out in theaters but never received a sequel, leaving audiences curious about what might have happened next in its overarching storyline. Directed by Scott Stewart of the Priest and Dark Skies fame, Legion opens with an intriguing hook where a group of diners finds themselves facing evil supernatural forces.

What is the most terrifying alien film? That should be an easy question to answer, right? Of course, there are some iconic ones. Will anything ever beat Ridley Scott's iconic Alien, where we first see the creature burst out of John Hurt's chest in a geyser of blood? Who could forget the first time they saw M. Night Shyamalan's Signs and the scene where Merril (Joaquin Phoenix) first sees the alien on the TV? There are huge '80s classics like The Thing and Invasion of the Body Snatchers that are rightly held high, both remakes of '50s classics that acted as allegories for the Red Scare. Then there are a few underrated modern films like Dark Skies and Phoenix Forgotten, which largely went under the radar, but feature some intense cosmic horror like the Ezekiel Wheel and up-close and personal encounters with the shadowed figures of the aliens.

Are you still feeling a little bummed out that almost all of the Tremors movies are leaving Netflix at the end of June? It’s a shame, to be sure, but rest assured that the streaming site won’t leave horror fans hanging, as they’re adding some great films that you won’t want to miss next month.
June 1st will be a huge day for the platform, as the long-awaited arrival of The Silence of the Lambs should bring in tons of viewers. The 1991 classic – based on the Thomas Harris novel of the same name – marks the second on-screen appearance of the infamous Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant but disturbed psychiatrist who’s been imprisoned after his cannibalistic serial killings. When another killer needs to be apprehended, the FBI consults Lecter to help them understand and track down the psychopath.

This most-unwonderful, cancellation time of year gets us thinking about the genre of TV shows that most often is given short shrift — sci-fi (or science fiction, if you’re being fancy)

Radio host Art Bell, whose nationally syndicated paranormal, supernatural and conspiracy themed show Coast to Coast Am kept many awake at night – for good reasons and bad – died at his Pahrump, Nevada home on Friday the 13th. Bell was 72.
During its peak in the 1990s, Bell’s show was broadcast on approximately 500 North American radio stations, airing from his isolated hometown of Pahrump on Knye 95.1 FM, a station he founded.
According to the Coast to Coast Am website, Bell became an FCC-licensed radio technician at age 13 and once set a Guinness World Record for broadcasting solo for 116 straight hours while working as a DJ at Ksbk in Okinawa, Japan.
Bell retired several times in his career, which included a short-lived show on SiriusXM satellite radio in 2013. His leaves always sparked rumors as to the “true cause” of his departures among the conspiracy minded.
Still, he could never stay away for long,...

“All the films in this book share an air of disreputability… I have tried to avoid using the word art about the movies in this book, not just because I didn’t want to inflate my claims for them, but because the word is used far too often to shut down discussion rather than open it up. If something has been acclaimed as art, it’s not just beyond criticism but often seen as above the mere mortals for whom its presumably been made. It’s a sealed artifact that offers no way in. It is as much a lie to claim we can be moved only by what has been given the imprimatur of art as it would be to deny that there are, in these scruffy movies, the very things we expect from art: avenues into human emotion and psychology, or into the character and texture of the time the films were made,...

In the not-so-good old days, summer used to be a break for more than just students. It was time off from great TV, as broadcast networks aired reruns, sports, and reality competitions while they assumed people were outside having fun. But since the new golden age began, all these TV shows have had to fit in somewhere, and many networks chose to run them during the less competitive summer months.
