It’s go time for the Teen Titans.
The DC heroes, which began as the teenaged sidekicks of their more famous and iconic counterparts, are getting their own live-action feature from the James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios.
The comic book movie division of Warner Bros. Discovery has tapped Ana Nogueira to pen the screenplay for the project. The hiring further ensconces the actress and playwright-turned scribe into the DC family as she is already writing Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for the label.
The Teen Titans were first introduced in the mid-1960s and featured Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad as well as Wonder Girl. Other teens such as Speedy, the sidekick to Green Arrow, joined the adventures later. The comics skewed young and were not considered major sellers until the 1980s relaunch by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

Ana Nogueira is set to write “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” which is being developed by DC Studios. The film, centering on Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El and her superdog Krypto, has yet to be attached to a director.
An actor and playwright, Nogueira had been hired by Warner Bros. to write a “Supergirl” movie in 2022. The original project was conceived as a spinoff of “The Flash,” which featured Sasha Calle as the character. However, the project was scrapped when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over leadership on the upcoming slate of DC Comics adaptations.
Gunn and Safran revealed that “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” would be part of DC Studios’ first line-up of features, which will reboot the continuity beginning with Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” in 2025. Describing the upcoming “Supergirl” film, Gunn cited Tom King’s comics as an inspiration and called the new film character “a very different type...

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s slate of DC movies continues to move forward.
Ana Nogueira, the actress and playwright who is now making forays into screenwriting, has been tapped to pen Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a standalone feature centered on the Kryptonian cousin of Superman being developed by DC Studios.
No director is attached and Nogueira’s deal only recently closed.
The project is actually a redo for Nogueira. The writer was quietly hired to pen a Supergirl movie in 2022 when Warner Bros. was developing the project as a spinoff of The Flash, then in post-production. Flash featured Sasha Calle as the heroine and the hope was to launch another DC film franchise.
Those hopes were seemingly dashed when Gunn and Safran were brought in to oversee a reorganized DC arm. That project was tossed as the new execs focused on creating a brand new slate, separate from former...

Exclusive: Rock and roll fantasy camp could be heading to the small screen.
Fox is developing single-camera comedy Rock Camp from The Goldbergs co-exec producer Steve Basilone, Jeff Rowe and David Fishof, founder of Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp.
The project follows a down on his luck rock star, who after a series of screw-ups, begrudgingly goes to teach at Rock Camp — a summer camp where anyone can live out their fantasy of shredding next to their favorite rockers — in order to satisfy a court mandate and save his reputation.
Basilone, who has also written on Community and The Michael J. Fox Show, will write and will exec produce alongside Rowe, and Fishof.
Fishof started Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp after having worked with Ringo Starr, Roger Daltrey, The Monkees, Joe Walsh and Peter Frampton. He launched it in 1997 and has put more than 6,000 folks through their rock star dreams.

The entertainment community prides itself on taking the lead in advocating for social change; consider its threat to curtail film and television projects in Georgia due to their laws limiting women’s access to abortion. Racial, gender, ethnic and cultural diversity are now acknowledged as worthy ambitions for popular entertainment.
By contrast, when it comes to Hollywood’s portrayal of characters with disabilities, history has told anything but an uplifting and prosocial narrative. But the entertainment industry is beginning to write a new script on inclusion, a development that is strongly underscored by NBCUniversal’s recent acceptance of the Ruderman Family Foundation guidelines on opening auditions to actors with disabilities.
In taking this landmark step towards inclusivity, the major media and entertainment company has committed to the notion that the more actors with disabilities audition, the more opportunities emerge for them to receive roles and, thus, the potential to receive leading roles.

Exclusive: Katie Finneran (Bloodline) is set for a recurring role opposite Lucy Liu in CBS All Access’ Why Women Kill, a darkly comedic drama from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry, Imagine Television Studios and CBS TV Studios.
Created by Cherry, Why Women Kill details the lives of three women living in three different decades: a housewife in the ‘60s (Ginnifer Goodwin), a socialite in the ‘80s (Liu) and a lawyer in 2018 (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), each dealing with infidelity in her marriage. The series will examine how the roles of women have changed but how reactions to betrayal have not.
Finnernan will play Naomi, seen in 1982. Upscale, brash and fun, she is one of Simone’s (Liu) friends and Tommy’s (Leo Howard) mother. Effusive, she is a cheerful widow, left six million when her husband died, which she claims was “pretty nice.”

Fox has given out pilot orders to projects that hail from Lon Zimmet and Billy Finnegan. 20th Century Fox Television will produce both projects.
The Finnegan project is a single-camera comedy currently titled “Richard Lovely.” It follows the title character, the disgruntled author of the best-selling children’s book series, “Mr. Mouse.” He doesn’t hate children, but rather just everything about them. After a publicity fiasco involving an unexpectedly savvy 9-year-old kid, Mr. Mouse appears in Richard’s real life as he is forced into an unlikely father/son relationship that will change his life forever
Finnegan will write and executive produce the project with Kat Coiro also executive producing. Finnegan is an executive producer and writer on the Netflix comedy “Grace and Frankie.” His other credits include writing for “The Real O’Neals,” “Bad Teacher,” and “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23.” He is repped by CAA and Rise Management.

Michael J. Fox has recently undergone spinal surgery and is currently recovering, according to the actor’s spokesperson.
Fox, who currently has a recurring guest arc on ABC’s “Designated Survivor,” “recently underwent spinal surgery unrelated to his Parkinson’s,” his rep said in a statement. “He is recovering, feeling great, and looking forward to getting back on the golf course this summer.”
The reason for the surgery was not made public.

Fox was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative nervous system disorder, in 1991. In a recent interview, the actor said he was told he’d only be able to continue acting for up to 10 years.
“It was scary,” he said. “I was 29 years old and so it was the last thing I expected to hear. I thought I’d hurt my shoulder doing some stunt because I had a twitch in my pinkie. And the doctor said ‘You have Parkinson’s disease.’ He said, ‘The good news is that you have 10 years of work left.'”
Since then, Fox has continued to work for more than two decades, with recent roles on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “The Good Wife” and his own 2013 NBC sitcom “The Michael J. Fox Show.”

Rebooting The Odd Couple is a dangerous game, and adding to the mix of potential kills, Matthew Perry just can’t catch a new sit-com break.
Studio 60 should have killed, Mr. Sunshine was rather funny, and though I wasn’t a believer in Go On for a while, it got to me after a few episodes. None of them lasted two dozen episodes, but they didn’t get yanked after, let’s say, four either, so they got some chance to get moving. For whatever reason, where other Friends stars have had certain success (Joey, oddly enough, has one of the best shows on television right now), there’s a certain, “Look Dude, you’re Chandler,” vibe that seems to still be following Perry.
More importantly, there’s something very ’70s about The Odd Couple, as a play, an idea, and something we have to work with week after week.

This is, to put it plainly, one hell of a time to be a comic book nerd. All my favorite characters(*) are making the leap from the page to either the big or small screen. Marvel can seemingly do no wrong with its film output, turning an obscure and downright goofy property like "Guardians of the Galaxy" into one of the year's biggest and most beloved hits. TV's most popular comedy ("Big Bang Theory") has a comic book shop as one of its primary sets, and a main character often seen in Flash and Green Lantern t-shirts. TV's most popular drama series ("The Walking Dead") is based on a long-running comic book, and there are currently five other comic-based shows airing on the broadcast networks (ABC's "Marvel's Agents of Shield," Fox's "Gotham," NBC's "Constantine" and the CW's "Arrow" and "The Flash"), with more coming fast. (The CW has "iZombie" set for mid-season,...

Last year, NBC hoped that Sean Hayes and Michael J. Fox, two stars of hit NBC sitcoms from yesteryear, could once again bring big ratings to the network. It didn't work and both Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show were cancelled.
Undaunted, NBC execs made a deal earlier this year for a new multi-camera sitcom starring veteran Bill Cosby and executive produced by The Cosby Show's Tom Werner. The untitled comedy, expected to debut Fall 2015, would have seen Cosby playing the patriarch of a multi-generational family who shares his wit and wisdom.
As a result of the multiple rape accusations against Cosby in recent weeks, the network has now cancelled the project. In light of the news, it seems likely that the new show would have been a tough sell to audiences and advertisers alike.

The Broadcast Television Journalists Assoc. spread the wealth among networks in its Most Exciting New Series category, which recognizes mostly upcoming series. This year’s list expanded to seven series, up from six last year, all on different networks. Underlying the struggles of the comedy genre, all shows on the list are dramas. The list is dominated by genre series, horror (Penny Dreadful, The Strain), sci-fi (Extant, The Leftovers) and fantasy/time travel (Outlander). It includes two series that already have premiered, Showtime’s Penny Dreadful, which already has been renewed for a second season, and AMC’s period drama Halt And Catch Fire. After CBS’ summer series Under The Dome, exec produced by Steven Spielberg, made the cut last year, the network’s new summer drama from Spielberg, Extant, has landed a nod this time, joined by one other broadcast series, Fox’s fall Batman prequel Gotham. Recently, NBC was the first of the big networks to reveal their Fall schedule line-up for the upcoming 2014-2015 season, and of course, their extremely long-running show, "Law And Order: Svu" drama, is on the schedule. The season 16 debut date will occur on Wednesday night, September 24th, 2014 at 8pm central time, so go ahead and jot that down on your TV calendars. It's going to retain its Wednesday night time slot, so that's always good, especially for the fans to keep up with it. In related news, NBC has ditched: Believe, Community, Crisis, Dracula, Growing Up Fisher, Ironside, The Michael J. Fox Show, Revolution, Sean Saves the World,or Welcome to the Family. So, don't look for any of those shows to return, although a petition to keep Revolution alive, is out there. I don't think it'll do any good, though.

NBC had high hopes for The Michael J Fox Show when they committed to 22 episodes without even seeing a pilot. A year later, the sitcom's been cancelled.
Loosely mirroring Fox's own journey, The Michael J. Fox Show revolves around a beloved TV news anchor (Fox) who stepped away from his career to focus on his family and his health after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The rest of the cast includes Betsy Brandt, Conor Romero, Juliette Goglia, Katie Finneran, Wendell Pierce, Ana Nogueira, and Jack Gore.
Last fall, the show debuted well (by current NBC sitcom standards) but the ratings sank with each subsequent week. The network kept it on the air despite truly terrible ratings. The network maintained that they believed in the show but ultimately pulled it after 15 episodes.
