Lizzy Greene (A Million Little Things) will star and executive produce.
The upcoming survival horror movie “strands a group of friends on a swiftly submerging tidal island deep in the Pacific, where they are soon hunted by the ocean’s greatest predator.”
Deadline details, “Lizzy Greene will play Hannah who, mourning the death of her sister, takes off around the world. Her journey leads her to Fiji and on a tour of an isolated atoll – a volcanic island that disappears with each high tide. But when the group are stranded, the rapidly rising ocean begins to reveal its terrifying inhabitants.”
David Straiton (“Hemlock Grove”) is directing High Tide.

The most famous Pennywise actor, Bill Skarsgård, has already made his name as a brilliant horror performer while starring not only in the two It movies, but also in the chilling series Hemlock Grove (2013–2015) and Castle Rock (2018–2019).
Continuing his major career trend, he also took part in a smaller-scale project, which didn’t suffer from its modest budget at all. On the contrary, it received lots of hype and even now, two years after its release, it is holding the second place in Netflix’s chart.
The movie’s plot revolves around the haunted house, and this trope is obviously used in an enormous number of horrors. However, here the monster, typically hiding in the basement, doesn’t turn out to be the main evil, damaging the characters the most.

10. What We Do in the Shadows (2019–2024)
We often picture vampires as the ultimate nocturnal predators, masters of seduction and illusion, don’t we? The entire charm of the Wwds’s bloodsuckers is how humane they are.
Sure, they only survive on drinking blood, but they’re just as funky, daft, insecure, and troubled as us — and that makes them all the more relatable.
You can watch What We Do in the Shadows on Hulu, Max, Apple TV, Disney Plus, and Prime Video.
9. Hemlock Grove (2013–2015)
If you need a simple and unsophisticated conflict in a vampire story, all you need to do is throw in some werewolves. Hemlock Grove takes this classic move up a notch and surrounds its titular town with a thick mist of uncertainty, mystique, and intrigues — all the while maintaining the tone of the otherworldly murder mystery.
You can watch Hemlock Grove on Netflix, Apple TV, and Prime Video.

The original Fox’s ‘X-Men’ film series cast is the cast that we will associate with some of the most popular Marvel characters in years to come. If you think about Storm it’s impossible not to conjure up images of Halle Berry, or associate Patric Stewart with Charles Xavier.
Famke Janssen, the actress behind the iconic Jean Grey portrayal is still the best live-action Jean Grey, despite Sophia Turner also portraying the character in the latter installments.
With ‘Deadpool 3’ release looming on the horizon and all the various rumors associated with former X-Men characters making a big comeback for Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU, it’s impossible not to wonder whether Famke will make an appearance as Jean Grey as well.
The actress herself commented on the rumors in her interview with Screengeek.

The original cast of Fox’s ‘X-Men’ films will forever be linked with some of Marvel’s most beloved characters. When you think of Storm, Halle Berry immediately comes to mind, and Patrick Stewart is synonymous with Charles Xavier. Famke Janssen, who played the iconic Jean Grey, remains the definitive live-action portrayal, even though Sophie Turner took on the role in later films.
As the release of ‘Deadpool 3’ approaches and rumors swirl about former X-Men characters returning for Deadpool’s MCU debut, fans can’t help but speculate if Famke will reprise her role as Jean Grey too.
The actress herself commented on the rumors in her interview with Screengeek.

Last week, Max finally released the trailer for their much-anticipated The Batman spin-off series, The Penguin, teeing up its fall release date. Overall, it looks highly reminiscent of Matt Reeves’ film, with the cinematography very much in the Grieg Fraser mode. But what else do we know about The Penguin? More than you may think.
The Penguin is set after The Batman.
The plot of The Penguin is set to follow the title character, once again portrayed by Colin Farrell, as he rises through the ranks of the Gotham City criminal underworld. After the events of The Batman and the flooding of Gotham, including the death of Carmine Falcone, Cobblepot desperately wants to fill the power vacuum. Colin Farrell has also indicated that the film will serve as an origin story for the Penguin, something we have seen twice on screen before in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, played by Danny DeVito.

Kelly Marcel helms the antihero movie in her feature directorial debut, and wrote the screenplay from a story she developed with Hardy. The duo, who also developed the first two “Venom” installments, return to produce the film alongside Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Hutch Parker.
Reps for Sony and Backo did not immediately respond to request for comment on her casting.

"Say Anything" marked America's transition into the 1990s by sealing off the heyday of feel-good high-school rom-coms and goth rock in the '80s. It was a major and much-needed send-off that is probably still an all-time favorite among many a Gen-x-er today.
The coming-of-age hit from 20th Century Fox featured breakout stars like John Cusack and Ione Skye. Even the supporting roles were played by soon-to-be major players like Pamela Adlon or the children of mega-famous stars like Jason Gould.
But not every actor featured in the 1989 romance movie survived into 2024. Unfortunately, John Mahoney, who played Diane's hypercritical (and hypocritical) father, James Court, passed away back in 2018. The late actor was the oldest major cast member by quite a few years and was in his late 70s when he passed. Before his death, Mahoney had an incredible career in film and television — his supporting role as Martin Crane in...

Whether you generally enjoy immersing yourself in bone-chilling experiences or usually steer clear of the horror genre, this time of the year just calls for something eerie. Your favorite spooky holiday is here, and chances are, you’re looking for a horror marathon to celebrate the day to the fullest. Now, binge-watching horror films or even a series of cult classics might not always cut it. There’s something about diving neck-deep into what’s terrorizing a bunch of characters in a show that really makes you a part of their bizarre world. You’ve got nothing to lose. And even if you come to care about the characters in a show and empathize with their plight, horror shows have a way of pinning you down to your couch and pulling you into a frightful narrative. There’s no easy way to point out why we obsess over this genre as much as we do.

"I wrote that movie when I was 22 and when I wrote it, everyone told me, 'This will never get made, that is a piece of s*** and this is a terrible script,'" Eli Roth said to Collider in 2015 of his debut feature film "Cabin Fever." Yet here we are, a full 20 years after the movie was released in the fall of 2003. Not only did the movie become a hit in its own right, but it spawned several sequels and even a remake in 2016. "Now I can say the script that everyone hated I can say was so good they made it twice [Laughs]," Roth quipped in the same interview.
Roth has reason to be a little bit smug about the whole thing.

The scene, which opens the first episode of the second season, is an adaptation of the fan favorite “Darkfriend Social” prologue of the second novel of Jordan’s series, “The Great Hunt,” upon which “Wheel of Time” Season 2 is largely based. It’s also based on some elements of Jordan’s third novel, “The Dragon Reborn.”

History was made 10 years ago at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards held Sept. 22, 2013. It was the first time in history that a streaming service took home a trophy. Three Netflix series — the “Arrested Development” reboot, “Hemlock Grove” and the lauded “House of Cards” — earned a total of 14 nominations. “House of Cards” helmer David Fincher won an Emmy for the pilot episode. Netflix had earlier received two Creative Arts Emmys,

We finally have our first look at Colin Farrell's long-awaited "The Batman" spinoff series. On April 12, Max (formerly known as HBO Max), officially kicked off its new streaming rebrand after it dropped the first suspenseful teaser of "The Penguin," the next chapter of "The Batman" saga, which sees Farrell's titular gangster character return to Gotham City to wreak havoc. The clip also unveiled that the Matt Reeves-executive produced show is currently in production in New York City and expected to debut on our TV screens in 2024.
"The Batman," which was directed by Reeves, premiered in March 2022 with Robert Pattinson as the titular Caped Crusader and Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman. It was a box-office smash, making over $770 million. Shortly after the movie was released, Max confirmed that its spinoff series was happening. "The Penguin" apparently takes place soon after the events of "The Batman,...

Matt Reeves may be planning his Batman film saga as a trilogy, but that doesn't mean we'll only be seeing his take on Gotham City inside those films. Spin-off films and TV series are in the works, which will highlight all the villains who make up Batman's rogues gallery; the Scarecrow, Clayface, and Professor Pyg have been mentioned as potential stars.
The spin-off furthest along in production stars Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin. Farrell had a supporting role in "The Batman," with Penguin (or "Oz" as he prefers) being the right-hand of crime lord Carmine Falcone (John Turturro). With his boss out of the picture, Oz is looking to become Gotham's new kingpin. The Penguin's club, the Iceberg Lounge, was also featured as a recurring setting in "The Batman," albeit reimagined from a high-class crib into an underground rave spot.

Arrested Development fans – depending who you ask – have had their fears confirmed regarding the final season.
Earlier this week, it was noted that the sitcom would be leaving Netflix despite the fact that seasons four and five of the series were Original releases.
It was because of this that many assumed season five, which is not even available to buy on DVD or Blu-ray, would disappear for good.
This fact seems to have been confirmed following the news that the first three seasons will be made available to stream on Disney Plus one day after their Netflix removal.
Disney Plus in the UK – and Hulu in the US – has confirmed that season one, two and three will be added on 15 March.
However, season four and five will not be included as part of this package. A boxset of the fourth season is available to buy online.

Netflix users have been left baffled by a forthcoming removal from the service.
Recently, several titles labelled “Netflix Originals” have been taken down, leading to confusion among viewers.
Each month, Netflix quietly removes several of these films and TV shows, some of which are not widely streamed.
However, the removal of Lilyhammer and Hemlock Grove, two of Netflix’s first-ever Original projects, caused anger among subscribers.
Netflix was able to reverse Lilyhammer’s removal, much to the happiness of lead star Steven Van Zandt, but due to the expiration of a licencing deal with another of Hemlock Grove’s distributors, that series was taken down.
Now, users are concened by the realisation that Arrested Development will be removed.
While the removal of the sitcom’s first three seasons may be understandable, considering they aired on Fox, it’s the fact that season four and five will also be leaving that is angering many.

Netflix just can't stop getting itself into sticky situations, huh? That's because every season of "Arrested Development" is now on borrowed time. Variety confirmed that the cult sitcom is expected to leave the platform on March 14, even though the streamer owns the rights to the series and produced two seasons of it. Netflix has not commented on the impending erasure, only marking its prospective removal date.
The interesting thing about this potential streaming purge is that, since Netflix owns both the distribution and production rights to "Arrested Development," it would be one of the very few instances where the streamer removed one of their exclusive shows or films. We previously discussed their removal of "Hemlock Grove," but despite Netflix being the distributor of that series, it was not the production studio. That's not the case for "Arrested Development," whose final two seasons were both produced and distributed through a collaboration...

Comedy fans would say Netflix is making a huge mistake.
The streaming service is removing all five seasons of the Emmy-winning comedy series “Arrested Development” on March 14, as reported by What’s on Netflix. It will be one of the most significant removals of a Netflix Original series to date.
“Arrested Development,” a single-camera comedy from creator Mitchell Hurwitz, ran for three well-regarded but low-rated seasons on Fox between 2003 and 2006. After its cancellation, its reputation as a cult classic grew, thanks in no small part to its availability on Netflix’s then-nascent streaming platform. It became so successful on Netflix that the streaming service commissioned a fourth season, which premiered in May 2013. A “remix” of Season 4 hit Netflix in 2018, followed by a fifth and final season released in two halves in 2018 and 2019. The revival seasons did not reach the critical heights of the original run, and the fifth season was...

In August 2022, amidst a bevy of other cost-cutting but callous decisions, Warner Brothers Discovery began removing shows and movies from HBO Max that couldn't be found anywhere else. It wasn't subtle; dozens of titles disappeared across the course of the month, including "Vinyl," which was created by Martin Scorsese, "Mrs. Fletcher," starring Kathryn Hahn, and an inordinate amount of animated and kids' shows. The streamer didn't stop there, though. By December, one of its former flagship shows, "Westworld," was gone, along with a total of 80 other movies and series according to IndieWire.
Even as creators began speaking openly about the broken trust between artists and a powerhouse network that was once known for letting creativity thrive, other streamers were already following in HBO Max's footsteps. Heads up, HBO Max subscribers: "Westworld" and "The Nevers" are the latest titles to leave your (increasingly less?) favorite streaming service, despite each of them being an HBO original series. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. Discovery, the company that owns HBO, is yanking both shows from HBO Max, with an eye toward putting them on another platform like a Fast (Free Ad-supported Streaming TV) channel in the future. For "The Nevers," this also serves as the show's official cancellation, before the second half of its first season eventually airs on whatever platform becomes its new streaming home.
The move comes after HBO Max began purging itself of certain streaming exclusives, along with other well-known HBO shows like "Vinyl," over the summer. At the time, the logic given was that these were all titles that hadn't been performing well in terms of viewer engagement. Despite being a high-profile prestige drama, co-created by Mick Jagger,...

The Netflix original series Hemlock Grove was a collaboration between the streaming service and producer/distributor Gaumont, and did not belong to Netflix in perpetuity – as evident from the fact that it was removed from the service last month. But if you were hoping to watch Hemlock Grove soon, we have good news for you: the independent free streaming network FilmRise had struck a deal with Gaumont to bring all three seasons (33 episodes) of the show to their service. Also part of the FilmRise and Gaumont deal is all three seasons (39 episodes) of the Thomas Harris-inspired series Hannibal!

Narcos director José Padilha has settled a lawsuit against his production partner Eric Newman alleging the series showrunner cheated him out of millions in profits by concealing revenue.
The two sides reached an agreement to resolve the suit, according to a court document filed on Monday. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Under their profit sharing agreement, they have an equal split of all revenue.

Netflix’s ad tier will not let users watch a handful of major and popular titles, including originals like “House of Cards” or acquired programming like “New Girl.”
In its announcement of the Basic with Ads plan, which launched for 6.99 earlier on Thursday, the streamer had said that a “limited number” of titles would be unavailable due to licensing restrictions, which it had said it is working to resolve. However, that includes titles including but not limited to “Arrested Development,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Good Girls,” “The Good Place,” “The Last Kingdom,” “The Magicians,” “Peaky Blinders” “Queen of the South” and “The Sinner.” Restricted movies include such titles like “The Imitation Game” and “Skyfall.”

The end of an era is upon us. The first Netflix Original series, which paved the way for the streamer's continued success, is saying farewell. Thinking back to the earlier days of this streaming service, it's probably zeitgeisty titles like "House of Cards" and "Orange Is the New Black" that come to mind, and while both debuted nearly a decade ago, quickly garnered popularity and won lots of new subscribers for the fledgling streamer, neither holds the title of first Netflix Original. That honor goes to "Lilyhammer," the Norwegian mob comedy that first arrived in February 2012.
Back in those days, Netflix had around 23 million paid subscribers. Now, it boasts upwards of 223 million, and its expansive library of original series plays a huge role in that number. But none of that ever would have happened without "Lilyhammer" coming first. Netflix 2.0 officially kicked off when the streamer made the leap into debuting original content.

Netflix UK is removing one of its most acclaimed horrors after just two years on the service.
Each month, the streaming platform takes down a large quantity of titles due to licencing rights.
However, users were surprised to discover in September that the service was removing Hemlock Grove, one of its first ever series to be listed as a Netflix Original.
It sparked a discussion about the availability of the series after its departure, with many expressing concern over the future of other Netflix Originals.
It’s now been revealed that the next Original to be removed in the UK will be His House, the Bafta-winning horror from writer-director Remi Weekes.
But, it’s worth noting that, while it’s listed as an Original, the film was actually a co-production with BBC Films and New Regency, who were the financiers. After the film is removed on 29 October, it will have...

Sadly, some classic movies and one popular show in particular are leaving Netflix in October to make room for a spooky slate full of fright. “Schitt’s Creek” fans have until Oct. 2 to binge all six seasons before the show heads to Hulu for streaming. Any “After” fanfiction readers have until Oct. 8 to watch where the story begins between Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) and Tessa (Josephine Langford).
Other favorite films leaving the streamer in October include “Footlose,” “The Notebook” “Bridget Jones’ Diary,” “8 Mile,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Miss Congeniality,” and most of those titles depart on Halloween. TV shows leaving include “Naruto” Seasons 1-9, “Sofia the First,” “Hemlock Grove” Seasons 1-3, and of course all six seasons of “Schitt’s Creek.”
Here’s a full list of what’s leaving Netflix in October and the dates that each title leaves:

House of the Dragon viewers are divided over a wild theory surrounding the character Larys.
In the show’s sixth episode, Matthew Needham’s scheming character became a fully fledged villain, something that prompted many to draw comparisons with Aidan Gillan’s Game of Thrones character, Littlefinger.
*Spoilers follow – you have been warned*
In the latest instalment, Larys is shown to be the cause of his father and brother’s murder at Harrenhal. He recruited a group of prisoners, whom he freed for the sole purpose of committing the act and, to keep his secret, he cut their tongues out.
When a disturbed Alicent realises Larys was the one who orchestrated the killings, he tells her: “I feel certain you will reward me when the time is right.”
Two seemingly unrelated moments in episode five and six are being highlighted now Larys’s villainous intentions have been revealed. These scenes...

Christian Bale has revealed the reason why he had to “isolate” himself from Chris Rock on the set of their 2022 film Amsterdam.
The 48-year-old actor said that Rock’s jokes were “so bloody funny” that it prevented him from getting into character.
“I remember his first day, I was excited to meet him, I’m a big fan of his standup,” Bale told IndieWire. “Then he arrives, and he’s doing some things… David [O Russell] told him to tell me some stories that I didn’t know he was gonna tell me, which is the way David works often. And I was loving it.
“But Chris is so bloody funny and I found that I couldn’t act, because I was just becoming Christian laughing at Chris Rock.
“So I had to go to him, I went, ‘Mate, I love talking to you, and we have mutual friends, but I can’t do it anymore.

Netflix users are calling out the streaming service for removing an original series for good.
Every month, licenced films and TV shows are taken down due to rights surrounding how long they are allowed to be on the service for.
It’s been widely believed that the original series developed by Netflix are safe, and will always be available to view. However, this is clearly not the case, and one such casualty will be Hemlock Grove.
The horror series, created by Brian McGreevy was first released in April 2013, and ran for three seasons. Its cast included Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgård.
It turns out that Hemlock Grove is a co-production, with rights being owned by Gaumont International Television. It is not the first show to be released under the Netflix Original label that has been removed – nor will it be the last.
For example, Netflix’s Marvel shows, including Daredevil and Jessica Jones,...

Eli Roth is venturing out of the horror genre again with his next feature film, the video game adaptation Borderlands, but he’s still bringing frights to the small screen as a producer… and the new horror show he’s working on now is something I never would have expected to see. The show is called Eli Roth Presents: My Possessed Pet, and you can watch a trailer for it in the embed above.
Eli Roth Presents: My Possessed Pet will premiere on Travel Channel on Friday, September 30th at 10pm, and will also be streaming on discovery+. Here’s a synopsis that lets us know what we can expect to see from the show’s hour-long episodes:
Few things are more profound than the quiet bond between a person and their pet. But what if an evil presence takes hold of the animal and uses the trusted companion to get to us?...
