In its second week on Netflix, Prison Break rocketed to the top of Nielsen’s streaming rankings.
The former Fox series, which also streams on Hulu, was added to Netflix on July 29 and made its streaming chart debut that week. For the week of Aug. 5-11, it more than doubled the previous frame’s viewing time, rising from 758 million to 1.6 billion minutes. (Hulu, incidentally, is developing a new version of Prison Break with Mayans Mc showrunner Elgin James.)
Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy — whose final season premiered Aug. 8 — was the top original series for the week, coming in at 1.46 billion minutes of viewing. That’s a strong showing, but also down a good amount from the 2.45 billion minutes the show recorded the week of its season three premiere in June 2022.

The hot dog imbalance — eight buns in a bag to 10 dogs in a pack — is an oft-spoken-of Americana annoyance, but it’s not the only bread-to-meat ratio that just doesn’t make sense. We’re talking, of course, about Wendy’s square hamburgers served on a round roll. Classic IndieWire stuff.
Wendy’s and Paramount are hammering out a deal to launch a new menu item at participating Wendy’s restaurants: the Krabby Patty. Yes, the sandwich of preference from the “SpongeBob Squarepants” cartoons is coming above sea level, a source confirmed to IndieWire. And you thought saucey nuggs would be the breakout Wendy’s menu item of 2024.
In the world of the Nickelodeon sea-sponge, the Krusty Krab is essentially the Wendy’s of the sea. It is also the employer of SpongeBob and Squidward. The Krab’s signature sandwich, the Krabby Patty, is about to wash ashore at your local...

The Olympics brought in very strong streaming numbers for Peacock during the first full week of the games. For other streamers? Not so much.
No original series or movie made the overall top 10 titles in Nielsen’s streaming rankings for the week of July 29-Aug. 4. That’s a first in the four-year history of the weekly rankings, according to the ratings service. Streaming levels outside of the Olympics “decreased significantly” during the week, Nielsen says.
House of the Dragon, however, continued its strong showing on Max (since the show also airs on HBO, Nielsen considers it an acquired series rather than an original). The Game of Thrones prequel topped the week leading up to its second season finale with 1.31 billion minutes of viewing, up from 1.04 billion a week earlier and its best mark of the season so far.
(Nielsen also adjusted viewing totals for HotD down slighlty for the weeks...

“American Murder: Laci Peterson” was the most-watched streaming original series in the U.S. Aug. 16-22, which marked its first full week of availability, per Luminate. That’s up from fifth place with 255.3 million minutes watched the week before, though the docuseries was only available for two days during that window.
Interestingly, the title at the bottom of the TV chart covered the same subject. Peacock’s “Face to Face With Scott Peterson” debuted in 10th place with 147.5 million minutes watched in its first three days of streaming.
"Emily in Paris" returned to Netflix for its fourth season, which landed it a second place debut with 843.6 million minutes watched in its first full week of availability. The dramedy is a consistent performer for Netflix that can be expected to linger on viewership charts even longer this season, as only five episodes were made available with the initial drop. The debut of “Emily in Paris” Season 4 proves Netflix audiences are far from done with the chaotic comedy.

For the sixth straight Monday, a new and different film is #1 on VOD at both iTunes and Fandango. “Twisters” (Universal), which grossed almost $10 million in theaters last weekend, is the latest summer hit to reach home viewing.
By design or accident, studios have spaced out their releases so every week brings a new top film. Since the VOD debut of “Civil War” back in late May-early June, no film has enjoyed more than a week as #1 on VOD.
As always, the timing for PVOD debuts don’t align with theatrical runs; “Twisters” and “Despicable Me 2” were released later than “Inside Out 2.” That’s no surprise — Universal is usually the quickest to go to PVOD; Disney tested the waters with streaming exclusives and same-day PVOD but now maintains the longest windows. “Inside Out 2” will hit PVOD after its 10th weekend, while it’s still in the theatrical top...

The #1 movie of 2024 (“Inside Out 2”), as well as #3 (“Despicable Me 4”), and #7 (“Kung Fu Panda”) are animated features. The medium’s representations continue in streaming results, with Universal releasing “Despicable Me 4” on PVOD last week. An immediate #1 at both iTunes and Fandango, it remained at #5 in theaters last weekend. It added another $8 million for a $330 million totall as usual, marketing for home viewing might have boosted its box office.
And somehow, Sony’s 2017 “The Emoji Movie” is now a hit. It grossed $217 million worldwide amidst blistering reviews; it debuted on Netflix this weekend and jumped to #1. It reinforces the notion that animation is foolproof as long as it seems fresh.
It is one of four animated titles on Netflix’s list, which includes one Netflix original, as well as “Trolls Band Together” and “The Lorax” from Universal. However, the eight-month run of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” may be over.

“A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” debuted on Luminate’s weekly viewership rankings with 699.1 million minutes watched in its first full week of availability on Netflix, making it the most-watched streaming original across both the film and TV charts for Aug. 2-8 by far.
This comes after a particularly slow week of streaming; between July 26 and Aug. 1 was Season 6 of “Love Island USA” with just 386.5 million minutes watched. And beyond a solid debut for “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder,” the summer slowdown continued this week, as “Love Island USA” stayed near the top of the chart, clinching the No. 2 position with 365.9 million minutes watched in the second full week of availability of the season finale.
"Unsolved Mysteries" Season 4 was the No. 3 TV series with a debut of 318.2 million minutes in its first full week of availability, followed by "Mayor of Kingstown" Season 3, which saw a bump to 284.2 million viewers during this window,...

If you're not up for contributing to "Deadpool & Wolverine" absolutely obliterating the box office, you can always turn to streaming for your entertainment fix. Of course, as we all know by now, doing so is somewhat akin to wading into a dangerous and stagnant swamp from which you might never escape. Everyone has experienced the despair that comes with endlessly scrolling streaming catalogs wondering how, when everything is at our fingertips, there's nothing to watch. Well, now a real hero has arrived in the form of Bruce Willis.
Yes, the man himself may have retired from acting following his 2023 diagnosis of frontotemporal degeneration, but he remains a hero to us all, and is proving his remarkably enduring appeal once again. This time, he's doing just that by cutting through the murk of the Netflix swamp with 2010's "Red," an adaptation of Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner's comic book...

It appears to have been a bit of a slow week on Netflix, with the most-watched title racking up just 12.8 million views. That was Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, ranking atop the English films list.
On the TV side of things, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder made its debut with 7.4M views, which was good enough to send the YA mystery series to No. 1 on the English TV chart.
Cobra Kai Season 6A seems to be losing steam, cutting its viewership by more than half this week, with just 4.1M views. Still, that put it in second place. Meanwhile, Simone Biles Rising had a good week, rising to No. 3 with 3.8M views, which is up just slightly from the week prior, likely aided by her stellar performance at the Paris Olympics.
Elsewhere in TV, Dirty Pop: The Boy Band Scam took fourth with 3.5M views, while Season 6 of Too Hot To Handle moved down to No. 6 with 2.7M views.
Netflix’s latest standup special, Joe Rogan: Burn the Boats, managed No. 7 with 2.5M views after its Saturday night debut. That’s a strong showing for the comedy special, which will likely rake in a larger audience this upcoming week, since only about 24 hours of viewership were accounted for during this measurement window.
Related: ‘Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie’ Cast Guide: Who Voices Who?
Back to film, Find Me Falling dropped to No. 5 this week, down from the top spot the week prior, drawing just 5.6M views. Thats about a third of the audience it had in the previous interval. Kids animation appeared to be the strongest winner this week with three spots in the English film Top 10 — Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie at #2 (7M views), Trolls Band Together at #4 (5.9M views), and The Bad Guys at #8 (4.2M views).
Under Paris is still going strong on the non-English film list, claiming seventh place with 1.7M views. It has already made its way onto Netflix’s most popular list with more than 95M views since it debuted, but it has about a month left in its 91-day premiere window, meaning it could very well surpass Troll to be the streamer’s most-watched non-English language film of all time.
Also, the eighth and final season of teen crime drama Elite moved into the top spot on the Non-English TV List, clocking 3.9M views.

Paramount is the big winner in home viewing at the moment on VOD platforms and at Netflix. The just-released “A Quiet Place: Day One” is #1 at both iTunes (ranking by transactions) and Fandango (by revenue), adding to its success after grossing $137 million in domestic box office so far.
Meantime, Paramount-produced films currently take three of the top five spots on Netflix’s movie top 10, led by Tom Cruise in two “Jack Reacher” movies, “Never Go Back” at #1 and the original at #5. #2 right now is “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie,” an offshoot of Paramount-owned Nickelodeon’s “SpongeBob SquarePants” empire, which earlier led the list.
Like Sony, Paramount is happy to take Netflix’s money even if it means removing content from their in-house streamer, Paramount+. A typical episode of “SpongeBob SquarePants” runs 11 minutes. Now, for those who can’t get enough of that Laffy Taffy-yellow fellow with the googly eyes and giggly laugh, a feature-length outing must already sound like 10 times the fun. Toss in the hook that a mad scientist wants to clone all the sea creatures from his corner of the ocean, and you’ve potentially got more SpongeBob than even the most insatiable sponge-head can handle.
Dropping exclusively on Netflix, “Saving Bikini Bottom: A Sandy Cheeks Movie” shifts the focus ever so slightly away from our porous … er, eponymous hero. It's finally the weekend, which just so happens to coincide with the beginning of August. The start of a new month always brings dozens of new releases to Netflix, and it can be overwhelming to learn what's been added to the streamer and what should be added to your watch list.
On the first of August, Netflix dropped so many great new releases, including Fire Country season 1, Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color, two Dr. Seuss movies, multiple Chucky movies and more horror, White Chicks, The Spectacular Now, and plenty of great picks for a binge-watch weekend.
In the spirit of the Olympics and watching Simone Biles win gold, you could bypass the new releases and check out the first two episodes of the Olympic gymnast's documentary series Simone Biles Rising. More new releases, like Unsolved Mysteries and Prison Break, are also in the top 10.

From today we will be able to see on Netflix the adventure of Arenita Cheeks made into a movie. The popular friends of the Nickelodeon company, created by Stephen Hillenburg. Science is compromised when Sandy Cheeks sees the lab she used to work for as a scientist turned into a water park. So she decides to travel to Houston, Texas, along with her friend SpongeBob to see what has happened and fix the issue.

Film adaptations of Nickelodeon’s popular cartoon franchise SpongeBob SquarePants are not new, and Netflix’s new animated adventure comedy is one more addition to the series. Although the title of Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie suggests that it is only the athletic squirrel whose story will be told, SpongeBob and his usual friends are very much present in the tale. The aquatic friends have to face a new foe this time around, as their whole ecosystem, Bikini Bottom, is scooped up by an evil corporation based in Texas. Overall, Saving Bikini Bottom will be enjoyable only to children or fans of the cartoon franchise and lacks anything significant for casual viewers.
Spoiler Alert
What is The Film about?
Saving Bikini Bottom begins on a regular calm and peaceful day at Bikini Bottom, where Sandy Cheeks is as enthusiastic as always to carry out her routine data collection rounds.

If the first thought that crossed your mind after you came across the title, the trailer, or clips from Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie was, “Haven’t I already seen this movie before?” Well, you’re not wrong. Earlier this year, this movie was leaked on Twitter, and it was up for about 5 hours on the social platform before it was taken down. But, since nothing on the internet ever gets deleted, it was downloaded and shared in various formats. Hence, the movie has been unofficially reviewed and rated across many platforms. As someone who happens to be chronically online, I did take a peek at it. However, as soon as I realized that it was an unfinished product, I peeled my eyes away from it. And I am so glad that I did because Saving Bikini Bottom is silly, fun, and delivers a surprisingly relevant commentary on consumerism.

You know what’s funnier than 24? 25!
To celebrate a quarter century of “SpongeBob SquarePants,” Nickelodeon pulled out all the stops at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, starting with an epic Hall H panel.
Mark Hamill made a surprise appearance to reveal that he’d be voicing The Flying Dutchman in the upcoming fourth SpongeBob film, “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants,” out in 2025. “He’s the most fearsome goofball pirate you’ve ever seen. The movie is more cerebral. It’s more thoughtful, intellectually challenging. No, I’m just yanking your chain. It’s inspired silliness from start to finish.”

Look, there’s no way around this: August is a slow month for TV, and Netflix isn’t any different. Splashy fall TV is right around the corner, but August seems best designed to catch up on some of the best TV of the year so far that you may have missed.
It’s not a total wasteland, however: “Emily in Paris” returns this month for Season 4 Part 1. The internet loves to make fun of it, but the dreamed is truly one of the best brain-dead shows to watch when it’s too hot to do much of anything else. Lily Collins wears the most amazing outfits! There’s lots of kissing! Why do you think you’re better than it?! Much like other recent Netflix hits such as “Bridgerton,” “Emily in Paris” Season 4 will be divided into two parts, with Part 1 dropping August 15 and Part 2 debuting a month later.

Q: Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? A: We all have for the last 25 years! That’s 25 years of supremely silly subaquatic surrealism that we, as a crew, and you, as our amazing audience, have been submerged in together. Twenty-five glorious years since Nickelodeon first introduced the world to Stephen Hillenburg’s quirky cast of characters that he discovered in a town deep on the ocean floor called Bikini Bottom. More specifically, one humble little goofball we all know (and love), Mr. SpongeBob SquarePants.
We’ve been so lucky to be part of a crew that has grown and morphed over the years in surprising ways. There are talented folks who have been with us since the very beginning and new members who grew up loving the show that they are now helping create. This is the secret formula to the show’s success.

Sandy Cheeks is ready to take center stage.
One of the more memorable characters on “SpongeBob SquarePants,” a squirrel who lives in a dome underwater (and wears a scuba suit when she needs to), is about to star in her very own movie. And before “Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie” splashes down on Netflix on August 2, you can watch the brand-new trailer above.
The new movie follows Sandy (voiced by Carolyn Lawrence), SpongeBob (Tom Kenny) and Patrick (Bill Fagerbakke) as they attempt to save their beloved town after it’s been scooped out of the ocean by an evil corporation. As is the case with earlier movies, “Saving Bikini Bottom” uses 3D computer animation and liberally mixes animation with live-action photography. At a recent Netflix event, they previewed a scene from the film, which involved Sandy and her family involved in a high-speed car chase. All of the...
