Jack Quaid isn’t just riding the wave of The Boys anymore, he’s stepping firmly into the spotlight of Hollywood’s next generation. With The Boys gearing up to wrap its satirical superhero saga in season 5, Quaid’s time as Hughie Campbell may be winding down, but the actor’s trajectory is clearly on the rise. He’s been building momentum steadily, and the past few years have made it obvious that this guy’s not fading into the background anytime soon.

Quaid’s first steps onto the big screen came via The Hunger Games over a decade ago, but it didn’t take long for him to carve out his own identity, far beyond just being the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan. From offbeat capers like...

Star Wars Celebration might be over, but that isn't slowing down the news from a galaxy far, far away, as one of Lost co-creators is working on a new series for Disney+. After a weekend filled with news about new films and animated projects, one notable absence from Star Wars Celebration was the news of any new live-action Star Wars series. There was a lot of attention paid to Andor and Ahsoka Season 2, but there was nothing new about the status of Skeleton Crew, or maybe a decision to reverse course and renew The Acolyte. It appears, though, that Lucasfilm has something in the works for live-action Star Wars television, but it might not have been ready in time for a big announcement at Celebration in Tokyo, Japan.
Variety reports that Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and his son, writer Nick Cuse, are working on a Star Wars series. No further...

Just 10 days into its global run, Warner Bros.’ A Minecraft Movie has already broken nearly every record that it could’ve. It’s the highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2025, having overtaken the lifetime haul of Captain America: Brave New World; it’s now also the second-biggest video game adaptation ever made, behind only The Super Mario Bros. Movie; and this weekend, it passed the massive half-billion mark at the global box office. Directed by Jared Hess and starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, A Minecraft Movie is quickly establishing itself as a phenomenon, and is earmarked to become the first American movie to pass the coveted $1 billion mark worldwide this year.
Produced on a reported budget of $150 million, A Minecraft Movie has grossed an estimated $280 million domestically and $550 million worldwide. The movie has proven to be exceptionally popular among younger audiences, with dozens of videos depicting absolute mayhem in theaters being widely circulated online.

Hot off its incredible debut, A Minecraft Movie has already established itself as one of the highest-grossing video game adaptations of all time, even before it enters its second week in theaters. The film broke records in its first weekend of release, surpassing the benchmarks set by The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Barbie. It's poised to top the charts in its second weekend as well. Directed by Jared Hess, who remains best known for the cult classic Napoleon Dynamite, A Minecraft Movie stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa in the lead roles.
With $185 million domestically in less than a week, A Minecraft Movie is among the five highest-grossing video game adaptations ever made. This weekend, it'll overtake both Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ($190 million) and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 ($236 million) to become the second-biggest video game adaptation of all time. After surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie's opening weekend record for video game adaptations, A Minecraft Movie has broken new ground less than a week into its theatrical run. In just four days of release, in fact, the film has become one of the 10 highest-grossing video game adaptations in global box office history. It's now poised to overtake the lifetime global haul of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, one of the earliest big-budget video game adaptations produced during a particularly tragic run for Disney. It was only shortly afterward that the studio released mega-budget bombs such as John Carter and Tomorrowland.
Directed by Mike Newell, Prince of Persia starred Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role of Prince Dastan; the movie also featured Gemma Arterton and Ben Kingsley. It debuted theatrically in 2010, and concluded its run with $90 million domestically and around $335 million worldwide. Intended as a franchise-starter, the...

Warner Bros has landed an unexpectedly huge hit with A Minecraft Movie. But then, videogame adaptations have long attracted sizeable audiences…
What was the first ever live-action movie based on a videogame? The popular thinking is that it was 1993’s Super Mario Bros. In reality, it was Mirai Ninja – known in the US as Cyber Ninja – a big-screen rendering of an obscure Namco arcade game released in 1988. A full five years before Hollywood’s Mario adaptation, it featured a striking mix of katana-swinging action and giant Heian period-themed robots, yet largely drifted by unnoticed. Criminal, really. (Good news, though: it’s on archive.org if you want to watch it.)
Super Mario Bros, thanks to the recognisability of its name and the huge marketing campaign surrounding it, soon became infamous for its distinctly loose handling of Nintendo’s bouncy fairytale videogame franchise. Its critical and financial failure set something of...

Building upon its spectacular performance at the domestic box office, A Minecraft Movie set records in its debut weekend globally. It delivered the biggest domestic opening for a video game adaptation, beating The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s record from a couple of years ago, and grossed around twice its reported production budget in its global debut. Starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, A Minecraft Movie is directed by Jared Hess, who remains best known for co-directing the cult hit Napoleon Dynamite. This is the biggest project that he has worked on, although both Black and Momoa have experience with mega-budget blockbusters.
With $157 million domestically and another $144 million from overseas markets, A Minecraft Movieearned a cumulative $301 million in its global box office debut, shattering expectations and setting the stage for what could be W.B.’s first billion-dollar hit since Barbie in 2023, and definitely the studio’s biggest hit since Dune: Part Two last year.

Box office takings have been all over the place since the pandemic, and we have another surprise to share with you this weekend.
Despite receiving largely negative reviews from critics - it currently sits at 48% on Rotten Tomatoes - A Minecraft Movie exceeded expectations on Thursday with a $10.55 million haul for a total $55 million Friday.
According to Deadline (via GameFragger.com), it's currently eyeing a $130+ million debut in North America, though some believe it could reach $150 million. Early estimates pointed to a respectable $65 million opening; clearly, Minecraft fans have come out in full force for this one, as have families eager for a fun time at the theater.
If A Minecraft Movie manages to earn more than $146.3 million, then it will top The Super Mario Bros. Movie to land the biggest 3-day start of any video game adaptation.

Some movies are critic-proof. All they need to do is to please their target audience; the wider the demographic the better. This week's A Minecraft Movie falls in this bracket. The video game adaptation is exceeding expectations at the box office, on the back of solid audience response. The film's mixed reviews, on the other hand, don't seem to be creating an obstacle in its path to commercial success. Starring Jack Blackand Jason Momoa, A Minecraft Movie is directed by Jared Hess, who remains best known for the cult classic Napoleon Dynamite. This is the biggest film that he has worked on, and, if things pan out as projected, he could have a Barbie-level hit on his hands.

The upcoming Uwe Boll thriller starring Armie Hammer shares its title with Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, or at least it did until somewhat recently. According to Variety, Boll had a “friendly” chat with Warner Bros. and has decided to change the name of his film from The Dark Knight to Citizen Vigilante.
“We had a very friendly conversation with Warner Bros. and decided to change our title to ‘Citizen Vigilante’ to avoid any confusion with Warners’ famous character,” Boll explained.
Executive producer Michael Roesch added, “We also got a lot of feedback from fans, who asked us to change the title because of its similarity with Chris Nolan’s movie, so this was another factor in changing the title. Warner Bros. contacted us and asked us to change the title. It was a very amicable discussion.“

They say laughter is the best medicine, but what happens when you add a hefty dose of adventure, a splash of retro cheesiness, and two charismatic stars? You get A Minecraft Movie, of course!
No, we haven’t exactly thought that the blocky landscapes of a 2011 video game could come alive with such flair! Now, we’re a sucker for nostalgia, and seeing Jack Black and Jason Momoa team up for this pixelated escapade is like mixing peanut butter with chocolate—a strange combo that just works!

Directed by Jared Hess, this flick takes us on a ride where logic takes a backseat, and we just enjoy the ride with a hefty dose of chaotic fun. Spoiler alert: it’s not Shakespeare, but it’s a blast! And fans are already raving about it!

The review embargo has been lifted for A Minecraft Movie, and so far, they're largely mixed. In fact, it's landed on Rotten Tomatoes with 52%, a "Rotten" score that could result in it becoming the latest big-budget 2025 release to underperform thanks to negative reviews.
If that happens, it's bad news for Warner Bros. Pictures and, more specifically, current studio chiefs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy. David Zaslav is already said to be exploring leadership alternatives after the likes of Joker: Folie à Deux and Mickey 17 bombed, so another flop will seal their fate (and might be good news for current DC Studios' co-ceo Peter Safran).
52% puts A Minecraft Movie in the same ballpark as Rampage, Tomb Raider, and Mortal Kombat. However, it's also not too far behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie's 59%, which managed to gross over $1.3 billion worldwide in 2023 with a similarly "Rotten" score.

Novocaine's start to box office life certainly hasn't been easy, with this movie about Jack Quaid's man who feels no pain, certainly unable to avoid such struggles in theaters. However, that hasn't stopped the film from inching ever-closer to success, with its most recent box office weekend total of $3.7 million domestically helping the movie surpass the $15 million mark in US ticket sales and $20 million domestically. At a time when ticket sales are worryingly low, Novocaine can be proud it has achieved this current milestone, having already returned its reported $18 million budget.
However, it looks as if the movie's next triumph will be for its star, Quaid, as the son of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid sits on the edge of a huge career milestone. Officially, Quaid is now just $7 million away from hitting the $1.5 billion mark in domestic box office earnings from just eleven theatrical releases to date. This is truly a remarkable feat,...

In the late 2010s, if you needed a leading man for a brains-off action/adventure movie, you called one person: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's agent. For a solid 5 years, The Rock was a fixture of movies that, at one time, would have been the perfect "sick on a Saturday" TNT rock block of entertainment. One of these popcorn flicks is 2018's Skyscraper, which is currently climbing the streaming charts. Skyscraper finds Johnson starring as Will Sawyer, a former FBI agent and amputee who, after injuries sustained while on a hostage rescue mission, becomes a security consultant for high-rise buildings. After terrorists capture the tallest building in the world in Hong Kong and try and extort its developer, Sawyer must rescue his family, who are trapped inside the burning structure.

An imagined Street Fighter live-action movie gets fan art that includes A-list stars. Street Fighter is a classic video game that originated as an arcade game in 1987. After its initial release, it spawned multiple sequels and spinoffs, including Street Fighter II in 1991. In the current era, it is becoming increasingly popular to adapt video games for the big and small screen, as evidenced by recent projects such as The Last of Us, Fallout, and Mortal Kombat II. The Street Fighter game had a feature film adaptation in 1994, which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Now, new AI-assisted fan art from @mkviciogamesoficial imagines what Street Fighter might look like in live-action. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of Hollywood’s most successful actors, at least in terms of earnings. His movies grossed over $10.5 billion worldwide. But despite this financial success, Dwayne Johnson’s movies have a tendency to prioritize spectacle over substance. And that’s exactly why he shouldn’t be a part of the God of War live-action adaptation.
Dwayne Johnson’s movies make money, but they aren’t very deep. | Image Credit: New Line
From failed video game adaptations to critically panned blockbuster performances, The Rock’s acting career has largely relied on his charisma rather than his true range. God of War, as we all know, is more than just good looks. So, with a story as emotionally rich as Kratos’, Johnson’s signature larger-than-life persona isn’t the best fit.

If you're into Christopher Nolan's superb superhero movie The Dark Knight, then chances are your Google search showed a few bizarre results in recent days thanks to the latest project by the divisive filmmakerUwe Boll. Boll has named his new endeavorThe Dark Knight, and it didn't take long for Warner Bros. Discovery to react to this. With the studio owning pretty much everything related to the Caped Crusader, including the names used in Nolan's trilogy, they very quickly sent Boll a Cease & Desist notice, but the director has no plans to comply.
Boll is no stranger to controversy. His early films were almost always panned by critics, but then again, they were movies based on video games. What followed in the 2010s wasn't exactly pretty, as Boll made bomb after bomb and was unable to understand the criticism towards his work. His reactions have been so notorious that documentaries have been made about it.

Earlier this year, the news broke that Armie Hammer, whose career came to a screeching halt in 2021 following some pretty disturbing allegations of sexual misconduct, had been cast as the lead in a movie called The Dark Knight from director Uwe Boll.
Based on an original script by Boll, Hammer is set to play Sanders, a man "who takes justice into his own hands as he sets out to hunt down criminals. While his crusade transforms him into a social media sensation and a hero in the eyes of the public, the local police chief sees him as a menace to society and aims to take him down."
“The story of The Dark Knight couldn’t be a more current topic, and I’m excited to bring it to life with this excellent cast,” said Boll in a statement (via Variety).

Uwe Boll still plans on calling his next film The Dark Knight, even after a letter from Warner Bros.

Uwe Boll recently wrapped production on The Dark Knight, an action thriller which shares its name with Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed Batman movie. Although the director has said that his movie “is very different from Chris Nolan’s movie, so there is no danger of confusion,” Warner Bros. has reportedly sent Boll a stern letter saying he can’t use the title. As you might expect, Boll isn’t going to back down.
Boll confirmed on The Uwe Boll Podcast Network (via World of Reel) that Warner Bros. has sent a cease-and-desist letter regarding The Dark Knight. “DC and Warner already contacted and said I can’t use the title,” Boll said. “I understand that, but I told them, ‘Guys, remember Rampage, the Rock movie? You used my title.’ The fact that they did that and called me for permission, they could show gratefulness and say, ‘listen, it’s not a Batman movie,...

Armie Hammer's big comeback will see him team up with Uwe Boll for a movie called "The Dark Knight," which is about a vigilante who takes the law into his own hands to combat crime. Sound familiar? Well, don't worry, as the disgraced actor and world's worst movie director aren't remaking Christopher Nolan's acclaimed Batman movie of the same name. However, that reportedly hasn't stopped Warner Bros. Discovery from sending Boll a cease and desist letter ... though you probably won't be shocked to learn that the director famed for literally fighting his critics in a boxing ring has no intention of backing down.

Uwe Boll is still planning to make his next film The Dark Knight, starring Armie Hammer. Warner Bros has written him a letter.
According to Uwe Boll, Warner Bros has issued him with a cease and desist over his plans to release a film titled The Dark Knight. Nobody at all saw that move coming, and it must be an enormous shock to all concerned.
Despite being about a vigilante, starring Armie Hammer (who once came close to playing Batman in George Miller’s aborted Justice League: Mortal) and having the same title as Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed 2008 superhero sequel, the provocative filmmaker claims that using the same title would cause no confusion and is insisting that it has to stay.

Fast and Furious and Riddick star Vin Diesel has his sights set on another heavy-hitting action franchise, with the actor taking to social media to tease his role in the upcoming adaptation of the classic toy game Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots. First announced back in 2021, the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots movie will see Mattel Films team up with Universal Pictures and Vin Diesel's One Race Films for this live-action adaptation of the beloved toy, which finds players taking control of two dueling robot boxers and smashing buttons until one of their heads comes off.
While it doesn’t initially seem like Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots has the depth needed for a movie, it’s likely that the adaptation will be akin to something like the 2011 sci-fi action outing, Real Steel. It is not yet known whether Vin Diesel will play a human or a robot in the movie,...

The world of toy-based movies is expanding even further. After the breakout success of Greta Gerwig's Barbie, it feels like every toy you once played with in your youth is being brought to the big screen. With brands like Matchbox and even Barney the Dinosaur getting new feature film adaptations, the floodgates have officially opened, as the next beloved children's toy to be given its own live-action movie will be Bakugan.
Per Deadline, a live-action Bakugan movie is currently in the works from Spin Master Corp., the company who own the rights to the Bakugan IP. The new movie has already found its core staff, with Brad Peyton set to write, produce, and direct. This won't be his first time turning a beloved game into a live-action feature, as he previously directed the Dwayne Johnson-led video game adaptation, Rampage, back in 2018. It is the era of game adaptations and we’re all living in it and Bakugan, in this case, is no exception to that. Like Digimon and Beyblade, the franchise is branching out into different ventures altogether.
Other than that, it is regarded as one of the most successful toy franchises among children. From cards to figurines, it left no stone unturned in becoming a multifaceted game company. But that is not the end of it all.

This is especially true for its upcoming live-action movie. The film is said to be directed by Brad Peyton and is officially in the works. And though it sounds promising, there is a catch to that as well.
Fans worry that the adaptation might be deemed lackluster in most aspects. This circles back to his past project Rampage which garnered mixed reviews.

It's official: Sonic is the king of live-action video game movies. More importantly, with its theatrical run winding down, the third installment has passed a major milestone.

The late William Friedkin had a reputation for his wild, whirling, aggressive personality on film sets. He was so blustery and temperamental that he earned the nickname "Hurricane Billy" from his co-workers. Stories from the set of his 1973 horror masterpiece "The Exorcist" are recounted frequently, and many actors, photographers, and writers have talked about the things that happened off camera while making that movie. Friendkin, it seems, thrived in a chaotic environment, and played loud audio cassettes of tribal chanting in between takes. Someone even alleged that Friedkin would occasionally fire blanks into the air, making sure everyone was a little jumpy. That kind of behavior would be considered too reckless today, but in the hoary days of the 1970s, it was considered kinda metal.
Friedkin made several horror films and thrillers in his career beyond "The Exorcist," which is still often considered one of the scariest films of all time.

Actor Armie Hammer was on the rise when his career took a major hit in 2021. At the time, allegations of misconduct were leveled against Hammer, and offers for new roles in Hollywood films immediately dried up.
After four years, Hammer is looking to get his acting career back on the rails. He has recently been hosting a podcast, looking to show another side of himself as he takes on more acting work. Per Variety, his next role will see him playing a vigilante in a movie called The Dark Knight. While the movie happens to share a title with a beloved film directed by revered filmmaker Christopher Nolan, it is not a DC project focused on Batman... though, with Hammer in the lead, it's still starring someone who was once also cast as the popular superhero.
