As you may have heard, the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con International was not the usual Sdcc experience.
On July 14, the American actors’ union SAG-AFTRA joined their writing counterparts in the WGA by going on strike and picketing the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) for its refusal to grant them a fair deal. Since the details of the strike preclude actors and writers from promoting their union-backed films and TV shows, many of the planned panels, promotions, and guests at Comic-Con had to bow out.
The end result was a Con that very much resembled the event’s earlier days before it became a action item on the calendar for big studios like Marvel, DC, and others to showcase their upcoming blockbusters. And you know what? It was all still pretty cool!

Nearly 30 years after its cinematic debut, I assure you, the Quick Stop is open once again thanks to "Clerks III." After trying to manifest this project in a number of different ways since the release of the second film in 2006, fan-favorite filmmaker Kevin Smith is finally presenting the third chapter in Dante Hicks and Randal Graves' story in a theater near you. And interestingly enough, this movie brings the New Jersey native all the way back to his first chapter as the characters that kickstarted his career back in the early '90s are now making their own movie about working in a convenience store.

Robert Bruce, who featured in the AMC reality television series Comic Book Men, was found dead on Friday. He was 62. According to NJ.com, Bruce’s family members believed he had been living in a basement unit at the facility — they contacted the police after they hadn’t heard from him in several days. Police went looking for Bruce and found him dead at the storage facility. No foul play is suspected; however, the investigation remains open and is continuing. Bruce was a big-time collectibles expert and from 2012-2018 appeared in 34 episodes of AMC’s Comic Book Men. The series was set at director Kevin Smith‘s comic book shop, “Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash,” in Red Bank, with each episode featuring experts appraising a selection of collector’s items.

One of the most frustrating TV delays that came about because of the Covid-19 pandemic is the hold-up with the season 10 finale of The Walking Dead. AMC was able to bring us all but the last episode the latest run before the global lockdown prevented post-production work from being finished on the finale. And as of yet, we’ve still no idea when we may see it.
What’s particularly worrying, though, is that it might not be until the fall that fans get to see how things will be resolved for their beloved survivors. At least, that’s according to ComicBook.com, who put forth an interesting case for why AMC may hold off on airing the episode until later this year.

To some, cord-cutting means avoiding cable subscriptions and taking in entertainment strictly through VOD streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime. To others, it means eschewing paying for any entertainment services all together. Netflix? Disney? Amazon? Comcast? They’re all the man, man. Well, that latter group just received a powerful tool in its war against paying for things.
AMC has cut a deal with ViacomCBS to bring early seasons of many of their shows to the free streaming service Pluto TV, according to Variety. Under the deal, The Walking Dead’s first five seasons will be available to stream on the Pluto TV platform.

Pluto TV, the ad-supported streaming service owned by ViacomCBS, has added four new channels derived from AMC Networks programming, including The Walking Dead en Español.
Effective Friday, the 22-million-plus active viewers of Pluto will get access to the Spanish-language Twd offering, which features early seasons of the original series as well as spinoff Fear the Walking Dead. Also on tap are Stories By AMC (including past seasons of Twd), Slightly Off By IFC and All Reality We TV. Select programming from the four will also be made available on demand via Pluto.
Pluto’s approach to streaming has been to present viewers with an experience resembling the traditional television one, with live feeds, a programming grid and a large menu of channels. With an editorial team, it creates curated versions of programming available elsewhere, enabling it to largely steer clear of friction with pay-tv operators paying companies like ViacomCBS to carry linear networks.

The walkers are about to descend on Pluto TV — but they’re going to be even moldier than usual.
AMC Networks inked a licensing deal with ViacomCBS’s Pluto TV free-to-watch streaming platform, under which Pluto TV is launching a suite of four dedicated channels on Friday, May 1, stocked with library content including past seasons of “The Walking Dead.”
That will include a range of the cabler’s programming, including AMC’s hit show “The Walking Dead” (seasons 1-5) and later “Fear the Walking Dead” (seasons 1-3); the full series runs of “Halt and Catch Fire,” and “Into the Badlands”; IFC’s “Portlandia,” “Documentary Now!” and “Brockmire”; and We tv’s “Kendra on Top” and “Mary Mary.” Select programming will also be available on demand on Pluto TV.
For AMC Networks, the pact — making Pluto TV the exclusive free, ad-supporting streaming partner for its programming — is another way for it to monetize library content.

For almost all of us, being stuck in our homes has led to mass amounts of boredom. For those like myself, not being able to go to the movie theater is a huge change from what we’re used to. Luckily, a number of films that came out just before the Coronavirus pandemic broke out have gone quickly to Video On Demand, allowing audiences to still indulge in their offerings. One such title is Impractical Jokers: The Movie, one of my favorite comedies of 2020 so far, and a perfect tonic from all of the world’s stress right now. Film wise, there are few options more determined to put a smile on your face than this one. For those who still don’t know about this team, a quick refresher is in order for you. The Impractical Jokers are Joe Gatto, James Murray, Brian Quinn (Q for short), and Sal Vulcano.

I don’t watch a lot of television. Seeing well over 300 movies a year will do that to you, as you might imagine. However, when I do opt for TV over a film, it’s almost always something silly to just sit back and enjoy. One of the few programs I always make time for is Impractical Jokers, the long running TruTV show that has built up a dedicated following over the years. This week, the four Jokers head to the big screen for Impractical Jokers: The Movie. To honor that, today we’ll be doing a slightly different Spotlight on the Stars piece, opting to highlight, yes, the Impractical Jokers. The Impractical Jokers are, of course, Joe Gatto, James Murray, Brian Quinn (Q for short), and Sal Vulcano. The four have been friends for decades and came to prominence with YouTube videos initially, before getting the show, which has...

Kevin Smith repeats himself a lot. Doing press interviews for “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” he keeps dishing about the heart attack that nearly killed him last year, the impact it had on his current motivations, and how lucky he feels to keep at his unique brand of dopey, comedic filmmaking. More significant, however, is the evolution of Smith’s business acumen. Even as the film industry faces tremendous uncertainty, he may have finally cracked the code that will keep his work relevant: Kevin Smith is in the sequel business.
Some 25 years after “Clerks” became a breakout Sundance hit and single-handedly created the geek-bro genre, Smith is finding new ways to mine his catalog. His new film returned to the bumbling weed dealers he introduced in his debut, and last visited nearly two decades ago with “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.” This time, he said, it had to be about the money.

If you’re a fan of Comic Book Men then you might be hoping that it gets revived by another network, but you might want to avoid getting too excited just yet. Kevin Smith, the creator of the sdhow, has yet to find anyone that’s willing to take the show on, though he’s been making his pitch. The main reason why AMC decided to give the show the boot is that it wants to eliminate as much of the reality TV influence that it can. Right now reality TV is simply too much of a hassle on too many channels and

Perhaps there will be more as they’re often announced at the last minute or suddenly during the confab (Read Lionsgate’s Blair Witch). Comic-Con has traditionally been a successful launch pad for such fan faves as Sausage Party, Star Trek Beyond, The Visit, Annabelle: Creation and Don’t Breathe. Don’t worry, on the TV side there’s the AMC premiere of Better Call Saul season 4.

Kevin Smith recently announced on his recent SModcast episode that AMC has canceled Comic Book Men after seven seasons and 96 episodes. Snith hosted the series, which was filmed in Smith’s New Jersey comic book and collectibles shop Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash. The series featured Walt Flanagan, Bryan Johnson, Ming Chen, and Mike Zapcic, and they talked about all kinds of geeky things!
When talking about the cancellation of the show, Smith said that it was "the moment that every Comic Book Men fan dreaded." He went on to say:
"When you got a TV show, you live in fear of the moment that our little TV show just faced. Comic Book Men — our series that has been on AMC for seven seasons, 96 episodes, shot at Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash in Red Bank, New Jersey, starring Walter, Bryan, Ming, and Mike, and occasionally myself,...

One of the mailers that all 23,000 members of the Television Academy received this spring highlights programs from AMC and SundanceTV for Emmy consideration. Titled “Fyc 2018,” the book includes a single DVD for voters to “sneak a peak” at four programs, as well as a code to “stream the rest” of the 17 programs that the book details. The AMC/Sundance mailer last year included six discs with episodes from all 16 programs that they were showcasing.
SEEwhat AMC has submitted in the program and acting races.
The episodes on the lone DVD this year are finale “We are Gone” of limited series “The Terror,” the “Who’s Your Daddy?” episode of limited series “Top of the Lake: China Girl,” the seventh episode of new drama “McMafia” and the “Goodwill” episode from the final season of drama “Halt and Catch Fire.”
These four programs have some big shoes to fill, with “Better Call Saul” taking an extending hiatus.

It’s called Silent but Deadly for a reason. On February 25, veteran comic Kevin Smith took the stage at the Alex Theater in Glendale, CA, to perform the first of two planned stand-up shows. But right after the first show ended, he suffered a near-fatal heart attack.
Smith tweeted about it after the fact, writing: “After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my Lad artery (aka “the Widow-Maker”). If I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground!”
Now Showtime has set a premiere date of 9 Pm Friday, May 11, for the special that was shot that night.
In the set, Smith riffs on marriage, fatherhood, friends and his work (or lack thereof).

Kevin Smith revealed how he recently turned down an offer from Harvey Weinstein to make Dogma 2.
Kevin Smith and the stars of Comic Book Men are practically a New York Comic Con institution at this point. Having appeared during the first day of the con’s festivities every year since its second season, Smith, Walter Flanagan, Mike Zapcic, and the rest of the guys returned yet again for their Comic Book Men Season 7 Nycc panel.
This year, the conversation veered from the new season—which features among other things cameos by the likes of Mike Coulter, Rosario Dawson, and a strangely cuddly The Exorcist doll of Linda Blair—to the longtime Jersey history shared by the men. Yet no Kevin Smith con experience is complete without at least a solitary reference to projects the Clerks director has in the pipeline… and those he turned down. Indeed, during...

How a 1994 indie hit from Kevin Smith gave birth to an unlikely franchise...
In 1993, Kevin Smith made a movie. Clerks was shot in black and white over the course of three weeks, at night, in the convenience store where Smith worked during the day, on a shoestring budget of $27,575. Smith funded the film himself by dipping into his savings, selling all his comics and maxing out several credit cards.
Even though it became an indie phenomenon when it was picked up by Bob and Harvey Weinstein's Miramax (who gave it a new soundtrack using a post-production budget that was ten times the cost of principal photography) at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival, it doesn't have 'franchise starter' written all over it.
Long considered a Gen X touchstone, Clerks is a funny and filthy slice of life movie, which equates a working day for Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) to his namesake's Inferno.

AMC could be taking a trip to Christmasland in the future. Back in December of 2015, it was revealed that the network was considering developing a TV series based on Joe Hill's supernatural novel NOS4A2, and today AMC announced that it has opened a writers' room for NOS4A2 and two other projects.
Led by Jami O'Brien (Hell on Wheels), who, along with Joe Hill, will serve as an executive producer on the series should it move forward, NOS4A2 is now being developed in the aforementioned writers' room.
O'Brien and her team will work together to write scripts for multiple episodes and a framework for the first season, and if AMC likes the concept and story that O'Brien and company come up with, NOS4A2 could be ordered to series.
This "scripts-to-series" system was used by the network to create the new series The Son and the upcoming Lodge...

You may know him as Winston Zeddmore, Sergeant Albrecht, or even Justin Jones, but right now Ernie Hudson is using his versatile talents in front of the camera to bring the character of Captain Ned Conrad to life on the Fox series Apb. To celebrate the season 1 finale of the high-tech yet emotionally grounded police series, I had the great pleasure of speaking with Hudson about his new show, and we also had the chance to talk about his desire to play Winston once again in the world of Ghostbusters, why he doesn't plan on returning to The Crow franchise, and his secretive time on the Twin Peaks revival.
Congratulations on Apb, one of many projects that you have going on at the moment. The show is unlike anything else on television right now and I think it's really relevant, too. How did you get involved with it initially and...
