A new episode of Survivor 46 aired on Wednesday night. Would it feature another blindside?
The season has become known for blindside votes, including Tiffany Ervin going home with her Immunity Idol.
Only seven castaways remained for Survivor 46, Episode 11. They could nearly taste the upcoming finale night.
After Tiffany and Hunter McKnight got voted out with Idols in their pockets, the remaining players knew it was time to begin searching for Idols again.
Plus, it was likely that another Reward Challenge would happen, but it would be tough to duplicate the drama from the last one.
As a reminder, Liz Wilcox blew up on Q Burdette after he declined to invite her to an Applebee’s feast.

Cannes — For years, reports of MipTV’s terminal decline were somewhat exaggerated. Now, however, they’re real. On March 26, Rx France, organizers of MipTV, announced the launch of Mip London, over Feb. 23-28, 2025. MipTV’s 2024 edition will be its last.
Attendance, once 10,000 in 2018, 9,500 in 2019, had plunged to 5,510 on-site delegates last year. That still made it the second biggest TV event in the world. Still dwindling participation this year, is down to around 3,000.
What a MipTV swan song, bulwarked by Canneseries, can deliver, is another question. 10 takes on this year’s edition:
MipTV Sticking to Its Guns
Traditionally, MipTV delivered a straight sales market where sales companies or divisions hold back-to-back meetings with distributors who get links to their shows. History has hardly been on MipTV’s side. As simply raising the finance for a show in an environment of rising costs and declining commissions has become more and more of a challenge,...

In Hollywood, actors often find themselves trapped in a loop of similar characters. But Kirsten Dunst isn’t one to be confined by expectations. She’s not afraid to break away from what people expect of her, and that’s what makes her stand out in the film industry.
Kirsten Dunst in a still from Hidden Figures
After years of battling typecasting, particularly following a critically acclaimed performance, Dunst took control of her career. The actress, who started her career at just the mere age of six, stepped away from the “depressed girl” roles and jumped into all sorts of different projects.
Kirsten Dunst Shunned Depressed Roles After Melancholia
Kirsten Dunst as Justine in Melancholia (2011)
Kirsten Dunst‘s career skyrocketed after her haunting performance as a child vampire in Interview with the Vampire (1994). However, her critically acclaimed role in Lars von Trier’s Melancholia (2011) seemed to pigeonhole her into playing melancholic characters.

American Dreamer deserves better than it has gotten. Shot three years ago during the pandemic this delirously black comedy premiered at Tribeca 2022 and got lost in the crowd. The filmmakers including first time feature director Paul Dektor and screenwriter/producer Theodore Melfi decided to then hold it back and recut and tighten it eliminating 10 minutes of the original running time. In early 2023 it turned up at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, still largely ignored, and then its distribution hunt was further delayed by the Hollywood strikes. Finally Vertical has wisely picked it up and it will be opening in theatres and VOD Friday.
I saw the Tribeca cut and I have seen the final cut. Both worked for me but it was great to experience it a second time in an actual theatre with a very appreciative audience. Comedies work best that way and this one...

Pal Oie is reuniting with the producers of his 2019 action thriller The Tunnel to direct the new Norwegian monster movie Kraken.
TrustNordisk is handling international sales for the thriller, starting at the European Film Market (EFM) at the Berlin Film Festival.
Kraken, now in development and targeting a late 2025 theatrical release, will be based on the tale of the legendary monster from the deep returning and set to wreak havoc.
There’s no word on casting, but the thriller will follow Johanne, a marine biologist who encounters several strange occurrences while researching a fjord, including the brutal deaths of two local teenagers. “At the bottom of Norway’s deepest fjord rests a mythical monster as large as a mountain, with a myriad of arms ready to crush and devour anything they can grab,” the film’s synopsis reads.

In 2015, Fox debuted a science-fiction mystery series called "Wayward Pines" starring Matt Dillon as U.S. Secret Service agent Ethan Burke who is sent to investigate the mysterious disappearance of two fellow agents in a small town in Idaho. After getting in a car accident, he awakens to discover he cannot leave Wayward Pines, nor can he contact anyone outside of the town. He quickly learns that one of the missing agents is dead, while the other, his ex-partner Kate (Carla Gugino) has simply settled down and started a new life in the town.
If that wasn't odd enough, Wayward Pines is boxed in by an electric fence and run by Sheriff Arnold Pope (Terrence Howard), who punishes any attempts to flee the city with a public execution known as a "reckoning." If this sounds like David Lynch's "Twin Peaks" by way of Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery," you're not far off.

Serbian director Emilija Gašić will follow International Film Festival Rotterdam premiere “78 Days” with the “atmospheric and tense” psychological thriller “Witches,” she reveals to Variety exclusively.
“I’ve always been drawn to scary elements in films — especially if there are moments of comic relief. Growing up in Serbia, I was surrounded by stories and legends. There are so many superstitions and traditions that date back to pagan times.”
Her new film will focus on a woman going through menopause, without support from her loved ones or the healthcare system. Desperate, she turns to an elderly woman for help, a folk healer from a nearby village. Soon, she is asked to perform a series of rituals in order to lift a supposed curse.

Exclusive: Skydance has taken on the challenge of turning the bestselling YA fantasy novel series Ranger’s Apprentice into a live action film, with the hope it can become a franchise. Skydance has gotten control of the John Flanagan book series, and has closed a big deal with Hidden Figures helmer Ted Melfi to adapt, direct, and produce the film. Kim Quinn will also be producer.
Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger will produce alongside Melfi and Quinn. Flanagan will be executive producer, and Matt Grimm will oversee for Skydance.
I’ve heard that Melfi has made a deal worth high 7-figures if the movie gets made. His task will be to take the first two volumes – The Ruins of Gorlan & The Burning Bridge – and get a franchise off the ground that focuses on an orphan named Will who becomes an apprentice to a group of mysterious protectors known as the Rangers.

One more trailer has arrived for the musical version of The Color Purple ahead of its theatrical release next month in the UK.
To date, the only major cinematic interpretation of The Color Purple is the fondly-remembered 1985 adaptation by Steven Spielberg.
However, the story (which of course began life as a 1982 epistolary novel by Alice Walker) has since been adapted for Broadway and that musical version has now been turned into an upcoming film starring Taraji P. Henson (Hidden Figures), Danielle Brooks (Orange Is The New Black) and singer Fantasia Barrino, which is set to be released on 26th January.

It’s also about the strong bond shared by three friends.’ Spielberg’s 1985 adaptation saw Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey and Margaret Avery in the leading roles. Winfrey is involved in...

Before "Stranger Things," the Duffer Brothers released their first feature film "Hidden" in 2015. Part character-driven drama and part apocalyptic thriller, "Hidden" is a gripping exercise in suspenseful and economical filmmaking. The film mostly takes place in a fallout shelter where a couple, Ray and Claire (Alexander Skarsgård and Andrea Riseborough), and their young daughter, Zoe (Emily Alyn Lind), wander in darkness and scrounge dwindling canned goods. They are hiding from a sinister outside presence called the "Breathers." The Duffer Brothers use tight framing and dim lighting to immerse the audience in the characters' claustrophobia and fear.
Despite its incredible use of minimalistic filmmaking techniques and build-up to a stunning conclusion, Warner Bros. did not support "Hidden." The studio disliked the film's gloomy underground setting, even though that's what provides the white-knuckle tension. The Duffer Brothers made their film as they envisioned, accepting that the studio would not be actively promoting "Hidden" to a wider audience.

This article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 part 1.
Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen has been a breakout hit ever since its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 2018. In only five years, Jujutsu Kaisen’s manga has sold more than 80 million copies and is currently the 27th-best-selling manga of all-time.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s anime adaptation has proven to be just as popular, with its first season winning several awards, ranking at the top of many lists, and even becoming 2021’s second most discussed TV show on Twitter, anime or otherwise. Not to be outdone, the anime’s first feature film, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, is currently the ninth-highest-grossing Japanese movie ever made (beating the likes of Pokémon: The First Movie and Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke). Clearly, excitement for Akutami’s dark signature shonen series isn’t going anywhere. This popularity buys the anime a lot of goodwill and trust with its audience,...

As the news breaks that Alec Baldwin has been cleared of involuntary manslaughter over the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins, family and friends of the late cinematographer will be remembering her life and career.
Baldwin was starring in a western film called Rust in Santa Fe, New Mexico, when a prop firearm he was holding discharged, killing Halyna Hutchins, the director of photography, and injuring the director Joul Souza, police said. Hutchins was 42 years old.
While a lawsuit from Hutchins family alleged that the actor “recklessly shot and killed” her, Baldwin, 64, repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in the shooting. The actor maintained that he was told the gun was “cold”, meaning it had no live ammunition, and that as he cocked the gun it went off without him pulling the trigger.
On Thursday, Baldwin’s lawyers announced that all charges against him had been dropped. The decision came weeks before he was due to stand trial.

If there’s a company that’s emblematic of the Chinese film industry’s nascent post-covid rebound, it’s Huanxi Media.
Co-founded in 2015 by veteran producer Dong Ping (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and former attorney Steven Xiang, the studio built its business around signing exclusive deals with some of China’s most bankable directors to produce big-budget tentpoles to release during the country’s most lucrative holiday periods. Thus, China’s long, three-year path through the pandemic — featuring recurrent “Covid Zero” lockdowns of entire cities and provinces — hit the company particularly hard, as it regularly had to hold back its big-ticket films for better release conditions.
When Beijing abruptly dismantled its Covid Zero policies in late December, Huanxi faced yet another dilemma. As the Omicron variant spread like wildfire throughout the country in late December, China’s cinemas and streets became even quieter in many cities than they had been before the policy pivot,...

This article contains spoilers through The Last of Us episode 2.
The first episode of The Last of Us, HBO’s TV adaptation of the beloved video game of the same name, raised a big question for its audience to ponder. What, exactly, was the cordyceps fungus?
A quick Google search of the unfortunately real fungus (and subsequent Google image search revealing it commandeering tiny ant bodies) was enough to answer that. But still some major mysteries about the infection lingered in the context of The Last of Us. How exactly did the cordyceps mutate to inhabit human bodies? And more importantly: what was the original source of what would become a worldwide mushroomy pandemic?
As if The Last of Us anticipated these queries in advance, episode 2 of the series answers at least one of those questions right from the get go. Like the show’s first episode, “Infected” opens with an ominous flashback.

Les Films du Losange has boarded “Un silence,” the new thought-provoking film by Belgian filmmaker Joachim Lafosse (“The Restless”) starring Daniel Auteuil and Emmanuelle Devos. Mubi's retrospective "Empowering the Spectator: The Films of Michael Haneke" runs October 17 – December 16, 2019 in the United Kingdom.Alexander (Udo Samel) has his eyes glued to a TV screen when he recounts, halfway through Michael Haneke’s The Seventh Continent, his mother’s last words: “How would it be if we had a monitor instead of a head, where we could see our thoughts?” Released in 1989, The Seventh Continent marked Haneke’s feature film debut, but not the end of a career the Austrian had amassed during the previous fifteen years he’d spent writing and directing TV productions. Take his two-part 1979 television movie Lemmings as a single project, and the twenty-three films Haneke has directed since 1974 are somewhat evenly split: twelve features and eleven TV movies—the last of which, an adaptation of his theatrical staging of Mozart’s Così fan tutte, only came out in 2013. But the relationship...

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by levelFilm. Director: William Scoular. Writer: Ashlin Halfnight. Cast: Michala Brasseur, Adam Moryto, Jessica Cummings, Paul Syrstad and Boris Bilic. Survival Box is an indie thriller? from first time director William Scoular and screenwriter Ashlin Halfnight ("Bloodline"). To be released later this year, this sci-fi yarn/yawn takes place in an underground bunker, for most of the film's runtime. A nuclear event has taken place above, trapping seven characters below. There have been a few films of this style, from Matt and Ross Duffer's compelling title Hidden (2015) to the fairly sterile 400 Days (2015). However, neither of these films were as unbelievable as the one reviewed here. Characters act strangely within the Survival Box, while immune to cabin fever. The only film element worse than the films lack of realistic character actions is the film's tedious plot development. Story elements just plod along for the.

For the Us filmmaking duo, developing their sci-fi nostalgia-trip TV series Stranger Things was the culmination of a well-spent youth.
Growing up in North Carolina in the 1980s, twins Matt and Ross Duffer developed a love for genre and sci-fi with a particular passion for Steven Spielberg movies and Stephen King novels.
In a formative life event, echoing the plot of Jj Abrams’ Spielberg-inspired Super 8, the pair were gifted a video camera during third grade and began making amateur films.
Relocating to California to study film at Chapman University, the duo graduated in 2007 and immediately began taking steps into the movie business, collaborating on a series of short films and feature screenplays. Warner Bros optioned their post-apocalyptic horror script Hidden in 2011, and hired the brothers to direct Alexander Skarsgard and Andrea Riseborough in the film, which was released in 2015. Most fans of Netflix’s hit series “Stranger Things” agree that one of the many great things about the show is the creepily nostalgic music that’s reminiscent of the ’70s and ’80s. The two-part soundtrack was created by Survive’s Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, who jumped at the opportunity to work on the show when contacted by creators Matt and Ross Duffer, aka the Duffer Brothers.

Matt and Ross Duffer, the twin masterminds who wrote and directed Netflix's Eighties nostalgiafest Stranger Things, have a confession: They're sorta Nineties kids.
The North Carolina–bred brothers were born in 1984 — a year after the show's setting — and, while they have murky recollections of Cold War anxiety, they grew up playing Magic: The Gathering more than Dungeons & Dragons. "We were like, 'Shit, the kids in the show can't be playing Magic: The Gathering; it hasn't been invented yet,'" Matt says with a laugh. "My brother and I played D&D.

The masters of horror both took to Twitter to voice their emphatic approval of the horror-thriller series, as did basically everyone who binge-watched the show and has a Twitter account.

“Stranger Things is pure fun. A+. Don’t miss it,” tweeted King. Del Toro wrote that “Stranger Things may be a lot of things: King, Spielberg, 80’s, myself…but what it is, above all, is good!!”
Starring Winona Ryder as the mother of a boy who disappears in Indiana in the 1980s, the eight-hour series pays homage to King, del Toro and Steven Spielberg by combining supernatural elements with creepy, frightening storytelling. “Thanks @netflix … Gonna have to bill you for some new pants,...

The second trailer for Netflix's new sci-fi show Stranger Things is even better than the first.
I just rewatched Steven Spielberg's E.T. the other day for the first time since childhood, and it's so obvious that this show wouldn't exist if that movie didn't come first. This looks like a fantastic mystery with a great tone to it, and my hope is that it doesn't fall into the same trap a lot of Netflix shows fall into, which is that thing where it takes six or seven episodes before it starts to really get good. Fingers crossed this one starts with a bang and keeps up the pace from the very beginning.
Stranger Things will be available to stream on Netflix starting July 15th.

Personally, it’s odd that I hear about this show today. I just got my 3 12-packs of Hi-c’s Ecto Cooler in the mail from Amazon Pantry in my house today (couldn’t find it locally) and from my first sip, I remembered all the things I did in the 90’s. 6 VHS tape From Dusk ‘Til Dawn Marathons in my room of my parent’s house. Eating pizza from a plate while sitting on the floor so I could be closer to my tube television and Vcr so I could quickly rewind the tape of the film I just watched and put in the next one to keep the movie marathon going. Then, this trailer comes across my inbox and it hits all the right chords. I’ll admit, that maybe it hit me at a nostalgic time but I think this series looks amazing. Check out the trailer below.
