Pet Sematary: Bloodlines director Lindsey Anderson Beer has a whole lot of projects in the works at Paramount, from a new version of Sleepy Hollow to a film inspired by the American Girl toy brand – but that isn’t stopping her from teaming up with Universal Content Productions and genre regular James Wan (as well as his wife Ingrid Bisu) to develop a TV series called 1313, which is described as being a darker reimagining of the 1964 classic sitcom The Munsters. If 1313 gets a series order, Anderson Beer will be serving as the showrunner.
According to Deadline, 1313 will be “a horror series that plays on the Universal Monsterverse,” which makes sense, since the Munsters family included vampires, a little werewolf, and a version of Frankenstein’s Monster. As for the title of this new project, it comes from the fact that the Munsters lived in a house with the address 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

In the wake of Rob Zombie’s direct-to-video movie The Munsters back in 2022, Universal has now announced “1313,” a brand new small screen reboot of the iconic television series.
Developed and produced by James Wan’s company Atomic Monster, the new Universal horror series is said to be “a reimagining of the 1964 classic sitcom The Munsters that lives and breathes within the Universal Monsterverse.”
Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) will serve as the showrunner for “1313.” The title is of course a reference to the Munster family’s address, 1313 Mockingbird Lane.
Deadline notes in their report, “The project is being developed by James Wan, Beer, and Ingrid Bisu for UCP. Atomic Monster and Lab Brew are the production companies.”
Executive producers are Lindsey Anderson Beer and James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster. Ingrid Bisu is a co-exec producer on the upcoming series.

Think The Munsters, but way more grim.
UCP is developing 1313, which has been described as a horror series that plays on the Universal Monsterverse, aka a reimagining of the classic 1964-66 CBS sitcom The Munsters.
Lindsey Anderson Beer is set to showrun the drama. The project is being developed by James Wan, Beer and Ingrid Bisu for UCP. Atomic Monster and Lab Brew are the production companies.
Executive producers are Beer and Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster. Bisu is a co-exec producer.
The last time someone tried to dust off The Munsters for the small screen was in 2017, when NBC opted to reboot the comedy with Odd Mom Out creator Jill Kargman and Seth Meyers. The half-hour single-camera version was going to follow members of an offbeat family who are determined to stay true to themselves but struggle to fit in in hipster Brooklyn.

A reboot of “The Munsters” and a series adaptation of the 1976 Universal Pictures comedy “Car Wash” are among the projects Universal Studio Group (Usg) currently has in development, Variety has learned. In addition, Universal International Studios (Uis) and Carnival Films are developing a drama series about a newlywed woman accused of murdering her husband on their honeymoon.
The “Munsters” reboot is currently titled “1313,” a reference to the fictional family of monsters’ address at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. It is not currently set up at any network or streaming service.
The new show is described as a horror series that “lives and breathes within the Universal Monsterverse,” per the official logline. The project was developed by James Wan, Lindsey Anderson Beer, and Ingrid Bisu. Yesterday, Variety broke the mind-blowing news that Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller is teaming with Friday the 13th franchise rights holders Victor Miller and Rob Barsamian (plus Miller’s lawyer Marc Toberoff), A24, and the Peacock streaming service to bring the world a Friday the 13th prequel TV series called Crystal Lake. Now Fangoria has caught up with Fuller to see what he can say about the show at this point. He couldn’t say a lot – but he could confirm that they can use anything they want from the entire Friday the 13th franchise, and he described the show as a “pre-remake-uel” rather than just a prequel.
Here’s what Fuller had to say about the rights situation: “We can use everything. We can go to Hell, we can go to space. That’s not to say that we will do those things … although if we do go 10 seasons, I...

Happy campers? More like dying campers.
Just in time for Halloween, Peacock has announced that it has gone straight to series on Crystal Lake, a prequel drama based on the hit horror movie franchise, Friday the 13th.
Bryan Fuller, the prolific television creator behind such shows as American Gods and Star Trek: Discovery, will write, showrun and executive produce the series, which will be produced by A24, the studio known for buzzy movies such as Everything Everywhere All at Once and this year’s horror one-two punch, X and Pearl.
Friday the 13th is the horror franchise that launched in 1980 and gave the world Jason Voorhees, the hockey-masked slasher who mostly kills in and around the verdant and idyllic grounds of Camp Crystal Lake (except for the rare jaunt to New York or outer space).

As a horror filmmaker, Rob Zombie has fostered an impassioned following over the past two decades, with a body of work characterized by its black humor and unvarnished violence, made all the more engrossing by the perverse but productive sympathies the director has for his movie monsters. Now, Zombie has completed his most shocking venture yet — an adaptation of the wacky, wholesome ‘60s sitcom “The Munsters.” With friendly faces and a very conspicuous PG rating, the film is unlike anything Zombie has made before and arguably his most boldly stylized work yet.
“A lot of people have said to me: ‘Finally, I can watch one of your movies with my kids,’ which I don’t have kids so that’s kind of meaningless to me. But that’s nice!” Zombie tells Variety. “This is how I got into everything as a kid. This is for the next wave of monster fans coming our way.

"The Munsters" is a major departure for Rob Zombie. Ever since the industrial metal musician launched his filmmaking career, he has specialized in transgressive horror. His first movie, "House of 1,000 Corpses," was deemed so extreme that Universal Pictures shelved it. His subsequent films have been varying degrees of messed-the-f-up.
While no one was surprised that Zombie would be drawn to a Munsters movie, it felt awfully out-of-character for him to fully embrace the show's corny, family-friendly tone. But his love for the 1313 Mockingbird Lane brood is pure, to the extent that he relocated to Budapest, Hungary, in the middle of a pandemic, to make the film on his own terms. In doing so, Zombie had to separate from his usual U.S. crew. For actor Jeff Daniel Phillips, who'd made four previous movies with the director before getting tapped to play Herman Munster, these circumstances made this outing a brand-new Zombie experience.

Plot: The classic sitcom The Munsters is revived with a feature film origin story written and directed by Rob Zombie. We find out how Herman and Lily met and fell in love, and why the Munsters moved from Transylvania to Mockingbird Lane.
Review: After getting his career off to a successful start with House of 1000 Corpses and its sequel The Devil’s Rejects, writer/director Rob Zombie had the chance to show he could do something different with the remake of Halloween… but he proceeded to pigeonhole himself by making Halloween just as trashy and vulgar as his first two movies. Since then, he has struggled to get other types of movies into production – he wanted to make a hockey movie, he wanted to make a Groucho Marx biopic – and had to resort to making more of the same with the likes of 31 and 3 from Hell. The Munster family of 1313 Mockingbird Lane are easily one of the most widely recognized families in sitcom history, with Universal Monsters inspired costuming and aesthetics that turned them into pop culture phenomenons. Herman Munster famously resembles Frankenstein's monster, his wife Lily looks like a classic vampire while donning the trademark singular white streak of "The Bride of Frankenstein," and Grandpa Dracula looks as if a Ben Cooper Count Dracula Halloween costume aged into an adorable old man.

Another day, more TV revival news. This time it's The Munsters, the classic 1960s sitcom that NBC already attempted to revive with Mockingbird Lane back in 2012. Now, according to Deadline, Odd Mom Out creator and star Jill Kragman is taking a stab at bringing Herman, Lily, Eddie, Grandpa and Lily Munster back to television for the Peacock network. Seth Meyers and Mike Shoemaker are also on board as executive producers. The twist? This version will find the Munster family attempting to fit in with the hipsters of Brooklyn, no a Californian suburb. Bryan Fuller attempted to bring The Munsters back to TV with the hour-long drama Mockingbird Lane. Jerry O'Connell starred as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi as...

Saturday Night Live’s Seth Meyer’s production company, Sethmaker Shoemeyers Productions, have begun development on a reboot of the 60’s classic comedy TV series The Munsters.
The show, which is being developed for Universal TV and NBC, is said to be following the same format as the original show with thirty-minute episodes and will focus on the Munster family trying to stay true to themselves while living in the hipster haven of Brooklyn.
Originally airing in 1964, the series only last two years with only seventy episodes under its belt before being dropped due to low ratings after the premiere of Batman. It followed a family of friendly, quirky monsters and was a satire of both traditional monster movies and the wholesome family fare of the era.
All the costumes and the characters, except one, were based on the classic films from Universal Studios between the 30’s and 40’s.

The classic 1960s monster comedy series The Munsters is making a comeback! NBC is rebooting the series which will be developed by Seth Meyers (SNL) and Jill Kargman (Odd Mom Out).
The series will follow an "offbeat family who are determined to stay true to themselves but struggle to fit in in hipster Brooklyn." That family will consist of monster-like characters. In the original series the family resided at the famous 1313 Mockingbird Lane, which was a fictional address in the fictional city of Mockingbird Heights.
I don't know if you remember or not, but this isn't the first time NBC attempted to reboot the series. Several years ago Bryan Fuller (American Gods) tried to develop it as a series called Mockingbird Lane. Jerry O’Connell was cast as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi would play his wife Lily, Eddie Izzard was cast as Grandpa and Charity Wakefield as cousin Marilyn.

A newly-rebooted series of The Munsters will see the offbeat family become fish out water in hipster Brooklyn...
Another '60s TV classic sit-com is being resuscitated, and this time the main character has knobs on the side of his neck for easy jump-starts. Yep, NBC is rebooting the classic sitcom The Munsters. The series will be executive produced by Late Night host Seth Meyers, and the script for the pilot is being written by Odd Mom Out creator and star Jill Kargman.
The planned series will be a half-hour, single-camera sitcom. According to the logline (via Deadline), The Munsters “follows members of an offbeat family who are determined to stay true to themselves but struggle to fit in in hipster Brooklyn.”
The Munsters satirised wholesome 1950s family comedies by casting classic movie monsters like vampires, Frankenstein monsters and wolfmen. It reteamed Fred Gwynne, who played 151-year-old laboratory creation Herman Munster,...

One of television's most iconic, frighteningly fun families are looking to return to the small screen, albeit in a new setting.
Deadline reports that a reboot of the 1960s TV series The Munsters is in the works at NBC from a script by Jill Kargman (Odd Mom Out), who will executive produce with Seth Meyers and Mike Shoemaker.
Casting details are not yet known, but the new series is expected to be in a half-hour format with a single-camera approach. Also, instead of taking place in the California suburb of Mockingbird Heights, the new series would see the Munsters trying to blend in among their human counterparts in Brooklyn.
Back in 2012, NBC aired a one-hour (with commercials) Munsters Halloween special titled Mockingbird Lane. Developed by Bryan Fuller, the special was a pilot episode for a potential new series, but NBC didn't move forward with it.

So much for Bryan Singer, director of four of the X-Men films in the franchise, which include 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, taking a break from further future X-Men duties. He’s just signed up to take the driving seat for the pilot in Fox’s TV series which is as yet untitled.
After finishing up with last summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse Singer stated: “Right now, once this one is done, I’d like to do something really different.” and he couldn’t have chosen a project any more different with a movie about Queen frontman Freddie Mercury so aptly entitled Bohemian Rhapsody which has Mr Robot’s own Rami Malek in the lead as the legendary Mercury. Singer, who has also directed an updated 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, which is based on the Jules Verne novel, currently in pre-production, is in no way a newcomer to the TV arena.

We have learned that veteran X-Men director and producer Bryan Singer has been given the reins to direct Fox's X-Men TV series pilot, created by the talented mind of Matt Nix.
Singer is no amateur to this franchise as he has directed; X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Days of Future Past (my favorite), X-Men 2, and the original X-Men. Let us also not forget that he directed one of the greatest cult movies of all time, The Usual Suspects, and he directed Superman Returns which both another writer and myself here actually liked quite a bit. The Fox X-Men TV series will be Singer's most recent venture after his TV shows Battle Creek and the Munster's reboot entitled Mockingbird Lane.
We also need to realize that this show is created by the great Matt Nix, who taught us after creating Burn Notice that Bruce Campbell is more than just Ash from The Evil Dead,...

Director has shot four features in the X-Men universe.
Bryan Singer is on board to direct Fox’s Marvel universe action-adventure, which had a put pilot commitment and comes from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix, 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television.
The project will focus on two parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.
Fox ordered the pilot earlier this week. Nix will serve as executive producer with X-Men feature alumni Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg, and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.
Singer is a veteran of the Marvel universe feature world, having directed X-Men, X-Men 2, X-Men: Days Of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse.
His TV directing credits include episodes of House, Battle Creek, and Mockingbird Lane.

Beth Grant is the latest star bound for the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods.
Already in active production over at Starz, Grant joins the long-awaited series as Jack, the owner of Jack’s Crocodile Bar. It’s a fairly significant role, too, given that her character will host Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) as he comes into contact with Mr. Wednesday, the ancient deity played here by Ian McShane (Deadwood, Game of Thrones). E! Online’s report indicates that the actress will appear in two of the 10 commissioned episodes.
Grant’s casting also marks another collaboration between her and American Gods co-creator Bryan Fuller, after the pair worked together on Mockingbird Lane, Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies.

In the world of television writing, there’s a collection of names which, besides being known as creators of various series, are renowned for having pretty awful luck when it comes to how their shows get treated by the networks they end up on. For some, like Aaron Sorkin it’s somewhat self-imposed (he walked away after three seasons of West Wing, got shut down on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and gave up on The Newsroom), while for others like Bryan Fuller (Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, Hannibal,Mockingbird Lane), Joss Whedon (Firefly, Dollhouse), and Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars, Party Down, iZombie), it’s more of a case of studios not knowing quite how to handle the shows as they tend to fall between easily definable genres. If iZombie is any indication, however, for at least Rob Thomas the curse of studio mismanagement might finally be over.

Bryan Fuller already has his first post-Hannibal project lined up - a TV version of Neil Gaiman's lauded novel American Gods.
But the writer / producer already has another dream project in mind - a reboot of '60s spy-fi series The Avengers.
"I would love to reboot The Avengers - with Eddie Izzard as John Steed," Fuller told TVLine. "That would be wonderful."
Fuller and Izzard, of course, worked together on Hannibal - where the latter played serial killer Abel Gideon.
The pair also have form when it comes to reboots, even if their last effort to revive a classic property - 2012's The Munsters revamp Mockingbird Lane - didn't get a series pick-up.
Now we just need to find someone to fill Diana Rigg's leather boots as a modern-day Emma Peel. Any chance Natalie Dormer - who play's Rigg's granddaughter on Game of Thrones - is available?...

There’s not enough Eddie Izzard to go around. The comedian has his hands in quite a number of pots right now. Having appeared as a supporting player in films like Ocean’s Twelve and Valkyrie – not to mention his stand-up comedy and star-turn in the short-lived series The Riches – Izzard has also turned to writing and producing, as well as acting. He’s worked on NBC’s Hannibal and Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane, and is set to appear in the comics adaptation Powers. Now, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Izzard is set to adapt Timothy Hallinan’s crime-comedy novel series Junior Bender for the small screen.

High Moon
Written by Bryan Fuller and Jim Danger Gray
Directed by Adam Kane
Aired September 15, 2014 on Syfy
While Bryan Fuller’s style may be a bit too quirky, macabre, or esoteric for some audiences, there’s no denying that the man knows how to give good pilot. The first episode of Wonderfalls was an endearing, fast-talking affair that gradually injected fantasy into early 20s/retail ennui. The first episode of Pushing Daisies was nothing less than a storybook brought to life, a vibrant spin on the matters of life, death, and what happens when the order of the two reverses. And the first episode of Hannibal was a visceral, otherworldly affair that made it clear from the outset it wasn’t your parents’ Hannibal Lecter.
That track record leads to a lot of high expectations for High Moon, even though unlike those previous shows the pilot is (likely) all there’s going to be.

A few years back, "Hannibal" and "Dead Like Me" show runner Bryan Fuller crafted a pilot for Syfy based on John Christopher‘s 1969 sci-fi novel "The Lotus Caves".
Fuller's adaptation never got picked up to series, but now Syfy is slated to show the 90-minute series premiere which has been repurposed as a TV movie that will air later this month. To tease the telemovie, the network has just posted the first five minutes of the pilot-turned-telemovie online at TV Line.
Jonathan Tucker, Jake Sandvig, Chris Diamantopoulos, and Charity Wakefield star in the series which is set on the Earth's moon which is now home to numerous mining colonies. Chaos erupts when a new life form is revealed.

Scar Tissue is the title of a new horror film that we're going to put on your radar now even though, right now, it's only seeing a UK release.
