In the beginning of the movie, a garbage-truck can be seen entering the prison. On the back it says "Troy - Disposal services". The logo next to this is the head of a horse. This is a reference to the ancient Greek myth of the battle of Troy in which a big wooden horse plays a vital role. The lettering on the truck foreshadows events that await in the movie.
Part of the movie was filmed in a youth facility in Vancouver, British Columbia but production was kicked out as Man of Steel (2013) had come in to shoot there. They moved production to a shut down asylum.
In a rare form of kindness, Steven Seagal took costar Steven Austin out for dinner after production finished at a luxury seafood restaurant. When they got their check, Seagal offered to pay for it. However, he left his wallet at home. After a heated exchange with an enraged Stone Cold Austin and a red-faced and teary eyed Seagal, Stone Cold finally agreed to pay the tan. The tab, when it got to Seagal's meal, included 25 servings of every meal, 50 soft drinks, and 30 desserts. The tab costed $6000 dollars. While paying the tab, Stone Cold's credit card maxed out, his debit card maxed out, and he ran out of all the money in his wallet. This still was not enough. A red-faced Stone Cold called the director asking for him to come by and pay the remaining of the tab. He finally did and Seagal thanked each of them and stared at them, expecting them to say "you're welcome".
