Assassin’s Creed Shadows was announced last week, and over the past seven days, the internet has been flooded with discussions about its two main characters: Yasuke, the legendary black samurai who served Oda Nobunaga in real life, and Naoe, a fictional Japanese woman created for the game. This has led some fans to complain about the historical inaccuracies of Feudal Japan.
However, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has never been known for strictly adhering to historical events. After all, the Pope never engaged in fistfights with a man named Ezio Auditore, and we have no records of mythical creatures actually existing. In the end, no matter Ubisoft’s approach with the new game, it will never please everyone.
Why are Yasuke and Naoe the Protagonists of Assassin’s Creed Shadows? Yasuke, one of the protagonists of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, is the main target of criticism.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is yet to be released but has already done something groundbreaking by simply sticking to the realm of reality, unlike its predecessors. The franchise has taken quite a detour and delved into the mystical side and not everyone was a fan of it.
The reveal trailer garnered some positive feedback and the gaming community is eager to see it in its full glory. However, the community was not all thrilled when the franchise decided to venture into unrealistic themes and deviated from historically accurate storytelling.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is the Right Step for Ubisoft
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the redemption project of the developers.
The fans are more invested when it comes to grounded and historically accurate stories while Ubisoft opted to explore the more mystical and unbelievable concepts and apply them to the gameplay for Hexe. Players will be able to use otherworldly...

The Marvel Universe is a treasure trove of characters, and the X-Men are among its most beloved properties. Ever since Disney acquired Fox and its repository, Marvel fans have been asking for the live-action debut of the mutants after decades of hits and misses within the Fox Universe. While the animated X-Men ’97 was definitely a step in the right direction, it seems Marvel has reverted back to its old ways.

X-Men ‘97 has left fans more excited than ever before to see a live-action take on the mutant team. Movies like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels have offered a glimpse of what the heroes could look like in the MCU, with Deadpool & Wolverine set to do the same later this summer.
The difference there, though, is that those are the 20th Century Fox Variants of the X-Men; what Marvel Studios does with its long-awaited reboot will surely be completely different. And, if X-Men ‘97 is any indication, we’re in store for something truly special (the series has been praised for its compelling take on the heroes and the way their powers have been portrayed in new and visually distinct ways).

Since the moment it was revealed that Disney was considering acquiring 20th Century Fox, Marvel fans have been imagining the X-Men joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’re still a number of years away from Marvel’s first X-Men movie, but the project has taken a big step forward. Deadline reports that Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) is now in negotiations to serve as the writer of the X-Men movie.
When the WGA strike concluded last year, X-Men was the first project Marvel Studios began tackling, taking pitches for the movie from a variety of writers. In addition to The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Michael Lesslie is also known for Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed, The Little Drummer Girl, and the upcoming Now You See Me 3.

The X-Men are one step closer to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with their own movie.
Screenwriter Michael Lesslie (“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes”) is in talks with Marvel Studios to write the first “X-Men” movie since the mutant superhero franchise was acquired by Disney in its purchase of 21st Century Fox in 2019.
As with every Marvel Studios film, Kevin Feige will produce, but nothing else about the film has been set, including director or cast. Marvel has been slowly seeding the MCU with mutants over the past two years, including brief mentions in 2022’s “Ms. Marvel” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and appearances of the X-Men’s namesake and leader, Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), in an alternative universe in 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” and of Beast (Kelsey Grammer) in the post-credits sequence of 2023’s “The Marvels.”

The Assassin’s Creed series has always been very lax when it comes to weaving in and out of fact or fiction. Its factual elements include aspects such as the layout of cities, landmark locations, and notable figures we encounter as characters. However, how the series uses such elements is where the fictional angle of the games is most apparent.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows hasn’t been able to catch a break since its recent reveals from a few days ago. A lot of that has to do with the discourse surrounding Yasuke and whether Ubisoft should even attach the name Assassin’s Creed to the recent games.

With Assassin’s Creed Shadows, every detail released has been a hit or a miss among fans, with no in-between. One of the features newly revealed has people worried that good story and immersion will be sacrificed in favor of adding unnecessary padding that would make the game overwhelming.

Ubisoft must be hoping to make up for the flop shows like Skull and Bones. The developer is back again with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The game is set in feudal Japan and features a couple of protagonists, namely Yasuke and Naoe. Former of which attracted some foul attention, and the controversy is still on.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a title that has been creating headlines since it was announced. Further, when the trailer for the game went live, it caused an even bigger fan uproar. One of the two protagonists in the game, Yasuke, became the point of fiery debates and controversies.
But the overall response for the title’s first trailer was also much worse when compared to previous titles like Valhalla. Apart from various community members, Twitch Streamers like Asmongold also reacted to trailers for both titles, and the two reactions were vastly different.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was the third title since the series took a different RPG-esque approach to its games. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be another product of the studio’s approach, which wasn’t the case with titles like Mirage.

Ubisoft’s upcoming game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has stirred up quite a bit of controversy, and it’s not just about the main character. While the community debates over Yasuke as the protagonist, popular Twitch streamer Asmongold has a different issue with the game: its pricing.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows was announced this week with an electrifying cinematic trailer, revealing new information about the game, including its protagonists, combat mechanics, stealth, and open world. Additionally, fans noticed the return of some elements from older games.
In the trailer, Naoe, one of the protagonists and the fictional daughter of historical figure Fujibayashi Nagato, performed a classic attack move from early Assassin’s Creed games. Fans observed that she wasn’t using a regular hidden blade, but a pivot blade, granting her greater mobility in attacks against her foes. The Assassin’s Creed Shadows caused outrage and hype among gamers, as reflected in the like-to-dislike ratio for the game’s trailer. When writing, the game had almost twice the number of dislikes. This was because of a controversy, as one of the two protagonists in the game was the point of discussion.

Rise of the Ronin was a massive success for PlayStation and Team Ninja and fans already have their itch for a perfect samurai game set in feudal Japan scratched. On the other hand, Ubisoft is just getting started after it unveiled the first official trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Both video games are set in Feudal Japan and the gaming community is already anticipating their similarities in terms of gameplay and open-world design. It is the ultimate fantasy of gamers to have the samurai game of their dreams and it seems like Ubisoft is too late.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows was officially unveiled earlier this week. Originally announced as Project Red, the game will at long last take Assassin’s Creed fans to the shores of Japan. The game will feature two playable protagonists, the stealthy Assassin Naoe and her warrior off-sider, Yasuke, based on a real-life historical figure.
In a post on Twitter/X, the Assassin’s Creed team shared some surprise news about an important feature that should please fans.

Call of Duty reflects the competitive nature of its gameplay through its marketing. Eager to steal the thunder away from Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the game just revealed a new map that is also taking place in Japan which may be purely coincidental for Modern Warfare 3.
Perhaps the new map was planned long before the Ubisoft reveal and it benefitted Activision by taking advantage of the hype built up. Regardless, the player base has been waiting for new content and the developers are about to deliver a new playground to explore.

In a recent interview with Xbox Wire, Charles Benoit, Game Director of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, talked about the upcoming game’s dual-protagonist system. He shared details on how players will play the game. Set in feudal Japan during the Sengoku era, Assassin’s Creed Shadows introduces a new approach by allowing players to take on the roles of two different characters: Naoe, a stealthy shinobi, and Yasuke, a formidable samurai.
Benoit says they want to maintain the core elements of Assassin’s Creed: stealth and combat. The shinobi archetype aligns perfectly with the franchise’s focus on stealth and infiltration, while the addition of the samurai introduces a new aspect of open combat to the gameplay experience. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s poor staying power may have gotten to the team.

Ubisoft’s upcoming game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has fans buzzing with excitement and speculation. Set in feudal Japan, the game promises an immersive experience in a historical setting filled with intrigue, conflict, and mystery. However, beyond the excitement, some fans have raised concerns that go beyond the choice of a Black samurai as the protagonist.
The game is scheduled to launch on November 15th, and pre-orders have already begun. The ultimate edition of the game will cost players $130, which is an absurd amount. This pricing decision has left fans furious with Ubisoft.

In October 2012, Disney dropped a bombshell, announcing their acquisition of Lucasfilm and the entire Star Wars universe. Along with that, they also revealed they’ve also snagged a treatment for Episodes VII-ix directly from the mastermind himself, George Lucas. Yet, amidst the chaos, it was the Star Wars fans who were confused the most.
George Lucas [Photo: Joey Gannon/Wikimedia Commons]As it wasn’t a secret that Lucas was content to bid farewell to Star Wars after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. He had no intentions of making a seventh installment. Thus, this left room for many to speculate. And the questions raised: Did Lucas’ vision shape the new era of the saga, or did Disney chart a different course entirely?

Assassin’s Creed has always had the advantage of being able to experiment with numerous historical settings, with each game set in a different era and usually introducing a new protagonist. Not only does this help Ubisoft keep things fresh even 17 years after the series’ debut, but it also covers a wide range of content that fans of varied tastes can get behind.
From the streets of Italy to the open world of Greece, the fanbase has visited places all across the globe, but long before the studio launched the trailer for Shadows, the community had been asking for a game set in Japan.
Now that Assassin’s Creed is finally taking action to a historical Japanese period, it raises a concerning sentiment. The franchise shouldn’t have taken this long to listen to the fans, because it may be too late.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been in a ton of controversies since its announcement. While locking quests behind a day-one-season pass bundle worth $109.99 was one of them, there’s another problem that has taken priority in almost all the discourse surrounding the title.
The existence of the samurai Yasuke in the game, one of the two protagonists of the game that you can play as, has rubbed many the wrong way, being that he is a man of African origin. While it might seem like a forced connection out of context, history says otherwise.

The Assassin’s Creed video game series has been around for over a decade and it is all set to grow with 2024’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows. However, some players still can’t get over the past installments, particularly 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins. Opinions are subjective but a significant number of fans have complained that the series hasn’t been the same after Assassin’s Creed Origins.

Ubisoft first announced Assassin’s Creed Shadows in late 2022 under the title Assassins’ Creed Red. While we didn’t know much about the game, rumors swirled around for quite some time about its overall narrative and setting. Finally, after years of waiting, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was recently revealed with a cinematic trailer and confirmed release.
Although some in the community aren’t particularly happy with Ubisoft’s decision to bring a Black protagonist in a game set in Japan, the trailer has been well-received. Players are excited to see what the developers bring to the table with the next iteration of the popular franchise. While the official cinematic trailer gave us a look at the game’s setting and character, it also confirmed one feature that was last seen in Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

The reveal trailer for Assassin’s Creed Shadows gave us a look at the story of the next flagship entry in the series. Not only did we get an understanding of the world we will be diving into, but also through whose eyes we shall be seeing this world.
Dual protagonists is not a new formula for Assassin’s Creed, but the trailer does hint at certain differences between the two, which would make it a first for the series. Not only would they feel like different characters to play, but they may also take diverging paths later in the story.
Naoe and Yasuke May Not Be Consistent Partners in Assassin’s Creed Shadows Assassin’s Creed Shadows might not be a story of pure partnership.
Games that allow players to take on the role of two characters during the same campaign usually have them as partners working towards a similar goal.

Ubisoft, the renowned video game publisher, has a long history of creating blockbuster titles. Among their successful franchises, the Far Cry series stands out as a fan favourite. Assassin’s Creed games have always provided a certain degree of freedom to the player when it comes to missions and challenges, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows is no exception. But the player has been limited by the character’s abilities. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate offered some variation in gameplay, where Evie and Jacob Frye had slightly different fighting styles.
Ubisoft appears to have taken a page from this game’s book but gone for even more variation in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The cinematic reveal trailer introduced us to our two main characters, Naoe and Yasuke, along with giving us a glimpse of their capabilities.
Choose Your Playstyle in Assassin’s Creed Shadows What approach will you take in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
Bringing new characters to the franchise should be more than a simple gender swap option. Players could choose whether to be male or female in Odyssey and Valhalla, but the difference was purely cosmetic.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Ubisoft’s latest entry into the classic franchise. From the details shared so far, it looks like the company is going all-in to revitalize a core part of the series—stealth—and let people live out their Shinobi dreams.
According to a recent interview that the game’s studio participated in, there’s going to be a lot of stealth mechanics that cleverly make use of the environment—something we’ve not seen in the industry for a long time.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows looks poised to be a departure from the tone and tenor of its franchise, especially as of late. While last year’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage was always intended to be a throwback to earlier games in the series, that installment was also marketed as something of a side story—a smaller contained adventure versus the sprawling open world RPGs which compose Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Valhalla. But Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the series’ long-requested foray into the history of feudal Japan? This title is being developed by the same team at Ubisoft Québec that gave us Odyssey. So players very well might have expected more of the same.

After a long and arduous wait, Ghost of Tsushima is about to finally descend into the hands of Steam players. From Sony’s perspective, these past few days must’ve been quite scary, given what happened with Helldivers 2 and what that controversy’s potential impact on their upcoming release could be.
All the worries can be put to rest now, it seems, as Ghost of Tsushima is already topping Steam’s list of best-selling games, showcasing how even the pre-purchase refunds failed to stop the massively anticipated title.

We got our first look at Assassin’s Creed Shadows yesterday, and it’s safe to say that the hype is building. While it’s always wise to temper expectations, the cinematic trailer gave us a look at not only the two characters but also their relationship and motives in the game.

It’s a sad day for The Division fans, as Ubisoft has given the previously announced spin-off the axe. Revealed as part of the company’s earnings call this morning, it has decided to move on from the franchise onto “bigger opportunities.”
The game had been delayed since its announcement in 2021. The first and second one received 80 and 82 respectively on Metacritic, and fans eagerly awaited a new addition to the series.

It used to be that the reveal of a new Assassin’s Creed would excite everyone who played the previous game. This was the case for a few titles, then it started to feel like Ubisoft was being lazy by delivering the same game with a different skin. So, they took a different approach, and from Origins, we got the RPG formula.
The formula has been used in three different titles so far, and the fourth one, the newly revealed Assassin’s Creed Shadows. However, the trailer we have seen for the game promises a lot more when it comes to the story and some gameplay elements. That is only if most of it makes it into the game.

For years, the samurai and ninja of Japanese video games have been portrayed in an almost-binary, black and white fashion – stoic warriors who follow an unwavering code of honor throughout their lives, making them poster representations of virtue that command respect.
While these portrayals can be riveting, they often lack nuance. Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the next mainline entry in Ubisoft’s blockbuster series, has a great opportunity to break this mold with a cast of characters never seen before in a samurai game.
