Need more black eastern cinema like this
I give it a four because black films not saturated with USA culture is needed. Igive it a five because i love to see dark skinned with their natural hair. Need more Juju in my thriller movies.

Black women in American films are exploited pitifully. I laughed when the preacher said IHave Done It. Sir you sure did not. LOL

Very disappointing resolution
chimexpytha-5419428 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The story seem OK at first, until the resolutional end , where "the lazy" writer used oil (cooking olive oil) to defeat the obstacle (demon)..they were better ways to go about it.

Also, what was the dad's take on all these? Why is he among them? Why kill the wife? Why is he willing to sacrifice/give away his own daughter? What is he benefiting? A lott of questions were not answered.

A typical nollywood movie where a writer creates a wonderful obstacle but resolves it using prayers or oil.

Like someone rightly pointed out, the writer used the concept in "Ready or Not," but this time in nollywood usual way of poor escape route to defeat obstacles.

I commend the actors and actresses. They all did well.

Kudos.

Losely/Poorly based on Hollywood's 'Ready or Not'
nisot-7162326 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There is an American film called 'Ready or Not' watch it and what they tried to do (rather poorly) in Ile-Owo will make sense. In ready or not, the latest bride to join the family found out she had to play a game on her wedding night as part of family tradition. Turns out the game is chosen by some deity the grandfather sold his soul to for wealth. If the game is not played when someone new marries in, the entire family will die. Everyone including surviving spouses knew the deal except the latest bride. The chosen game for new bride was hide and seek. We quickly find out the game is actually find and kill... basically bride must be sacrificed to this deity before dawn. The bride managed to avoid being killed until dawn and at dawn, every single family member apart from the bride literally exploded one after the other. So basically same concept as ile owo with naija twist/storyline... I think the writer/producers were trying so hard to hide the similarity by changing the story line so much that they introduced things that don't make sense like the immortality bs..doesn't really make sense.

I enjoyed but it wasn't really structured correctly for a horror movie
tokyo3-156-5546529 July 2023
This was more of a drama with some horror elements. Because it wasn't structured for horror and lacked horror conventions this will give the impression that the movie drags or is slow.

There was never really a place where I felt any real anxiety or apprehension not because these elements are there but because when there is horror it feels rather random and lacking tension. The build up of emotions from act 1, to 2 to 3 really isn't there. The film maker does some smart things with a low budget and small cast. I look forward to future projects from this filmmaker as he or she improves their craft. I really liked it except it just wasn't structured it correctly on the page for horror.

What a brilliant screenplay!
ngandacinema19 May 2023
Ile Owo had a brilliant brilliant screenplay! No need to fear, it's not a creepy/horror movie, it's more of a thriller

DELICIOUS

-Ile Owo is a movie that calls for intelligence as there are many hidden factors that may get you confused, but without spilling the beans, pay very close attention to the opening scene as it sets off the story right there

It was packed with mysteries and darkness with a mixture of mysticism, Christianity, and secularism

-The set and costume designs were beautiful. They accentuated the luxurious aura that Tunji (Efa Iwara) carried with him as well as the darkness of the sons of Akanni

-Efa Iwara was just mmm...He didn't need to say much because his body language & eyes spoke a thousand words!

Obviously, when you have Tina Mba in the house, she never disappoints πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎ

-"Desperate times call for desperate measures". That's what Ile Owo is about, whether we look at it from the perspectives of Akanni and his sons or Busola's. This world is wasting away and we must beware not to cling to wealth or societal importance in order to be happy

BLAND

---Immaculata Oko, having the lead character, didn't really deliver a strong performance. You could see that she was hesitant in her body and vocal expressions.

Bisola Aiyeola revealed that she is not solid when it comes to evil/dark roles. She overdid it by constantly opening her eyes wide in order to intimidate or using her hands to make gestures...

-The weak VFX played a major role to tone down the fear factor of the movie, unfortunately, making it look very computerish.
