Project Market Awards Winners
The QCinema Project Market, the industry initiative that accompanies The Philippines’ QCinema International Film Festival, revealed its winners list on Tuesday delivering almost $500,000 of grants and in-kind support.
The prizes followed a two-day networking and pitching event on Nov. 18 and 19 for 19 feature-length fiction film projects from Southeast Asia.
Two projects received the QCinema Project Market – Philippines Co-production Grant, with both collecting $55,000 (PHP3 million). They were: “The Remotes” from director-producer John Torres; and “Filipiñana,” by director Rafael Manuel. “Filipinana,” a black comedy set on a golf course, won a second prize on the night worth another $18,000. At the recent Asian Project Market in Busan it had also been a multiple prize winner.
Two film projects also received the QCinema Project Market – Philippines Co-production Grant worth $27,000 (PHP1.5 million) each: “The Boy and the Fight of Spiders (Diwalwal)” by director Jarell Serencio and “Ella Arcangel: Ballad of Tooth and...

India’s Ministry for Information and Broadcasting has announced an increase in the country’s production incentive from a 30% to 40% rebate on qualifying spend, with a cap of $3.6M (Rs300m).
In addition, a 5% bonus will be granted for films featuring significant Indian content. In order to be eligible for the increased incentive, international productions must first receive shooting permission from the I&b Ministry (since April 1 this year). Documentaries must also receive clearance from the Ministry of External Affairs.
India’s I&b Minister Anurag Thakur announced the news at the opening ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (Iffi) in Goa.
Thakur said the changes were designed to attract more medium and large-budget international film projects to India, and also aligned with the government’s broader goal of ensuring ‘Ease of Doing Business in India’.

In her new exclusive uInterview, Erin Moriarty discusses transforming into her character Geena in the film Catching Dust, which is premiering this weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Moriarty, known for her role as Starlight in The Boys, described the strange world of her character.
“She is a young woman who is living in a trailer with her husband and she believes that they’re living in a commune that’s deserted,” she told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “But essentially she’s very secluded, she’s very suppressed by this husband and she’s living in Texas that already has weird, especially this specific part she comes from, the gender roles are not the same.”
For Moriarty, the most important way for her to prepare for this role was getting Geena’s Texas accent down.
“One of the biggest things for me, funnily enough, and it may seem trivial, was working with a dialect coach,...
