The actress directed her first feature-length film, Among Friends, back in 2013, and is now making a new movie with Joe Dante. Independence Day 2: Last night it was revealed that the first official cast member had signed on to star in Roland Emmerich's Independence Day 2, the sequel to his 1996 film that featured massive alien-induced destruction and larger-than-life characters. It's now been confirmed that one of those characters will be coming back, as Emmerich tweeted last night that Jeff Goldblum will appear in the sequel, likely reprising his role as the brainy and dryly humorous David Levinson, who teamed up with fighter pilot Captain Steven Hiller to take down the mothership in the original film. Smith will not be coming back to reprise his role as Steven.

16 European producers will partner with 16 cross-media professionals at the fifth edition of Power to the Pixel’s annual event.

Power to the Pixel (PttP) has announced the projects taking part in this year’s Pixel Lab.

Taking place in Baden-Württemberg from July 6-12, the cross-media workshop will see its 32 selected participants partake in an intensive residential project-focuses training week.

16 European producers will develop projects with 16 cross-media professionals at this year’s event. Participants attending with projects include Tina Gharavi, Lily Lambert and Tim Travers Hawkins.

Producers attending with a project will attend a second workshop in London from Oct 7-10 as part of PttP’s Cross-Media Forum.

A&E has ordered its remake of the French zombie drama "The Returned" (aka. "Les Revenants") straight to series with a ten-episode, first season pickup. The Emmy-winning original is set in a mountain town where several local people who have long been presumed dead suddenly reappear. Published last month in the UK, A Spy Among Friends presents a riveting portrait of Philby, history’s most notorious master spy who rose to head Britain’s counterintelligence against the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War while secretly working with the enemy. Macintyre’s account focuses on Philby’s relationships and betrayals of his two closest friends in the intelligence world: Nicholas Elliott of MI6 and CIA intelligence chief James Jesus Angleton. Two forces to be reckoned with have teamed up to bring us our first look at "It's Hell Getting Old," a horror short from director Patrick Rea that will be part of Blanc/Biehn Productions' new elevator-set anthology Hellevator Man.

Kansas City-based Rea's short stars Kip Niven (Jayhawkers, New Year’s Evil), Joicie Appell (Nailbiter), Victor Raider-Wexler (Minority Report), and Nancy Marcy. It was executive produced by Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, Michael Biehn, and Lony Ruhmann.

The script, written by Rea, deals with four elderly people trapped in an elevator on their way to their 50th Class Reunion, and one of them may have forgotten to take some important medication. The film was shot in Kansas City, Missouri, and the director of photography was Hanuman Brown-Eagle.

Gosfilmofond to collaborate with Greenaway [pictured] on Eisenstein Among Friends; director is currently shooting Eisenstein in Guanajuato.

Peter Greenaway is planning a second film about the legendary Soviet director Sergei Eisenstein.

The Russian Federation’s National Film Foundation (Gosfilmofond) announced this week that it is planning to collaborate with Greenaway on the project Eisenstein Among Friends.

The Foundation’s director Nikolai Borodachev said that there had already been plans at his institution for a film about Eisenstein based on its own research work about the director’s 1931 film Que Viva Mexico.

Borodachev explained that the project would be partly financed by a bank from Switzerland.

In addition, Greenaway has expressed interest in having his own films digitally restored at the Foundation’s facilities in Moscow.

Among friends and locals in his longtime West Village neighborhood, actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was known as a low-key fixture, a family man who rarely drew attention. Stepping away from the spotlight and going behind the camera, Harris puts to action a script by star Alyssa Lobit focusing on the dirty little secrets we hide from those we love.
