Five years, the closest presidential election in Brazilian history, and one insurrection after her last examination of Brazil’s tumultuous socio-political sphere, Petra Costa––the brilliant documentarian behind Elena and The Edge of Democracy––hones in on Jair Bolsonaro, the radical evangelical right that won him the presidency in 2018, and the theocracy they collectively fight to instate. With Costa’s nearly unfettered access to the main characters of modern Brazilian politics, the events of Apocalypse in the Tropics practically unfold in real time––a thrilling, profound documentary horror.
Costa’s third solo feature presents Brazil as a perfectly bottled representation of what’s happening across an ever-globalizing world. It captures the trending rise of a new political right defined not by their specific beliefs but an amorphous fanatic religiosity and the spiritual, existential entitlement that comes with it, forcing all rational parties and critical thinkers to fight for democracy under a people-first,...

Marvel’s Thunderbolts* recently released a teaser trailer, which has the fans excited. Florence Pugh’s Yelena takes center stage for it, as the rest of the tag team of antiheroes and villains come together under one roof (and thumb). Julia Louis Dreyfus, responsible for bringing the Thunderbolts together, makes an appearance at the very end, as the teaser leaves us wanting more.

While it was really good to see all these characters come together, there are certain aspects of it that the MCU probably could do without. And the most glaring subject would be the broken female hero theme that has been consistent for most of the female characters that have come up so far. Vanished into the Night or Svaniti nella Notte, is a new Italian thriller drama film released on Netflix, based on a 2013 Argentinian film by the name of Septimo. The intense plot follows Pietro and Elena, a couple going through a messy divorce, as they fight for the custody of their two children, Bianca and Giovanni. But their lives suddenly get incredibly difficult when the children go missing one night while spending time at Pietro’s old country house. Overall, Vanished into the Night might not contain anything massively striking or brilliant, but it still makes for a fairly thrilling and entertaining watch.
Spoiler Alert

Henry Cavill “Apologized Profusely” To A Girl In Tudors. (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Henry Cavill has triggered his fair share of controversies, seemingly leading him to become kryptonite to D.C. Studio, which dropped him from the Superman role. The reason on paper for his ousting is that new studio bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran want a younger actor in their latest movie, which will focus on Superman’s early life.
However, it’s hard to miss the writing on the actor’s controversial wall. Caviill’s project appeared to dwindle after a torrid few years when he found himself in the middle of a social media storm following some controversial comments. Fans would recall in 2018, he claimed the #MeToo movement had left him scared to date women over fear of being “called a r*pist.”

[This story contains spoilers from the first four episodes of The Regime.]
Across four episodes of HBO’s The Regime, Kate Winslet has morphed into an evolving tyrant. Her Chancellor Elena Vernham, the populist leader of a fictional, unnamed country identified as being located in Middle Europe, was introduced to viewers as a vulnerable, paranoid and easily influenced ruler who was this close to unraveling. But by the end of the fourth installment in the six-part limited series from Succession writer Will Tracy, Elena has taken her power back — in more ways than one.
The “Midnight Feast” episode concludes with Elena reuniting with Herbert Zubak (Matthias Schoenaerts), the volatile soldier she had domesticated, elevated to be her right-hand man and then threw out to pasture. She exiled him from her inner sanctum because her imposter-syndrome demons — mainly related to her deceased tyrannical father, whom she regularly visits in the palace mausoleum — got the best of her, and she overcompensated by...

Andrey Zvyagintsev, the two-time Oscar-nominated Russian filmmaker of “Loveless” and “Leviathan,” will next direct “Jupiter,” a politically-minded movie set to shoot in Spain and France next spring.
The movie will tell the story of a Russian oligarch’s reckoning with the harsh reality of his family’s future.
Anonymous Content and Lorem Ipsum Entertainment (“War on Everyone”) are producing “Jupiter” alongside Les Films du Losange (“A Silence”) in France and Elastica Films (“Anatomy of a Fall”) in Spain. “Jupiter” is set in the seemingly impenetrable world of the ultra-wealthy and is being described by the producers as an “unrelenting exploration of power and corruption.”

The Vampire Diaries was late to the vampire lit party. The Twilight movie franchise had already begun in 2008 and True Blood had run for several seasons on HBO. By 2009, The Vampire Diaries co-creator Kevin Williamson was worried the show would be seen as a rip-off so he turned it down.

Eight seasons and two spinoffs later, Williamson need not have worried. But he was on a 2009 Television Critics Association panel answering questions about the popularity of vampire media.
‘The Vampire Diaries’ made Kevin Williamson say ‘Oh God’
Williamson already had experience with trends. After he wrote Scream, teen slasher movies came back in a big way. He even benefited, getting his script for I Know What You Did Last Summer into production. Still, he worried how vampire fans would see yet another piece of media based on a series of books.

The Vampire Diaries brought teen vampires to TV at just the right moment. Hot on the heels of Twilight’s big-screen dominance, the series became a reliable hit for The CW and helped launch numerous stars to promising careers. And the show’s many romantic entanglements left fans divided over how The Vampire Diaries ended. As it turns out, a season 8 deleted scene would have fleshed out the finale further.

While The Vampire Diaries featured plenty of supernatural drama, it remained a story of love, loss, and redemption at its core. The series finale was a fitting tribute to the characters who had become so beloved by fans throughout its eight-season run.
One of the most iconic relationships of the series was between Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). The final episode gave viewers a bittersweet glimpse into their future.
In the end, Damon and Elena eventually grow old together. When they die, they both still looked incredibly young. According to co-creator Kevin Williamson, there’s a simple reason why the couple didn’t age.

Italy’s True Colours has taken world sales on Italian director Mario Martone’s Cannes competition entry “Nostalgia,” starring Pierfrancesco Favino, who is known to Cannes audiences as the protagonist of Marco Bellocchio’s 2019 drama “The Traitor.”
Set in Martone’s native Naples, “Nostalgia” sees Favino play the middle-aged Felice Lasco, who returns to the bustling port city after having lived in Egypt for 40 years. Once back, he drowns into the memories of a distant life he spent in his hometown.
Martone will be returning to a Cannes competition berth with “Nostalgia” 27 years after his Elena Ferrante adaptation “L’amore molesto” (“Troubling Love”) launched in competition from the Croisette in 1995. His “The Scent of Blood” was in Directors’ Fortnight in 2004.
But the Neapolitan film and stage director has mostly been a Venice aficionado, most recently with “The Mayor of Rione Sanità” in 2019 and “The King of Laughter” in 2021, both sold by True Colours.

The Italian TV industry is chugging along seemingly undeterred by the pandemic’s impact, with local producers expected to churn out an estimated €500 million ($585 million) worth of scripted content in 2021 compared with $409 million in 2018.
Italy’s mini-boom, which is largely due to a rise in commissions from streamers, is happening just as the country’s production companies are snapped up by larger non-Italian groups amid a wave of media and entertainment industry consolidation in Europe.
In September, production and distribution giant Fremantle, owned by German group Rtl, entered exclusive negotiations to gain control of Italy’s Lux Vide, the TV production company behind the “Medici,” “Devils” and “Leonardo” skeins, which have travelled widely. Fremantle already owns two other top Italian production companies: Wildside and the Apartment, which are behind Paolo Sorrentino’s “The Young Pope” skein and Luca Guadagnino’s “We Are Who We Are.”

“Hawkeye” may be hitting Disney+ just one day before Thanksgiving, but it’s ready to kick off the Christmas season. And, in the first trailer for Marvel’s next series, Jeremy Renner seems to be back on the nice list as he strives to get home to his family.
The problem is, his days on the naughty list as Ronin appear to be catching up with him. As Clint Barton prepares for “the first Christmas we’ve had together in years” — aka, presumably the first one post-Blip — a masked vigilante no one’s ever seen before shows up on the news. Some believe that it’s either Ronin, or a copycat. Don’t worry though: Barton promises “I’ll be home for Christmas.”
Fortunately, it’s just Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld). She’s capable of handling a bunch of goons, but not of escaping Hawkeye himself, and she doesn’t seem too mad about it.

On Thursday evening, the Brazilian Cinematheque was engulfed in flames in western Sao Paulo, where the 6,500-square meter building has housed much of the country’s filmmaking legacy for decades. The organization was founded in 1940 and serves as the largest film archive in South America, with 250,000 rolls of film, 90,000 titles, one million documents and historical materials like early projectors.
Early reports suggest that the fire, the second to strike the complex in six years, was caused by a short-circuit in the air conditioning system. However, many in the Brazilian community have been quick to denounce the blaze as the fault of the government, which eliminated funding for the Cinematheque in early 2020 and caused it to remain abandoned since then.

"She felt no time. All she could feel was ecstasy." An official trailer is available for an intriguing Brazilian documentary film titled Êxtase, which initially premiered at the Cph:dox Film Festival last year. It's next playing at the MoMA Doc Fortnight event in NYC, running online now through April. The 75-minute doc marks the feature debut of Moara Passoni, who has associate produced Petra Costa's other doc films before this including: Elena, Olmo & the Seagull, The Edge of Democracy. Passoni's Êxtase (which just translates to Ecstasy in English) is an "elliptical essay portrait" of a young girl experience both rapture and torture starving herself as a way to find a place in a brutal uncertain world. Reviews say the film is an "imaginative, texturally rich imagery and staged sequences to produce a thoughtful and often troubling account of a young woman’s eating disorders, as lived from the inside.

This review contains no spoilers and is based on all eight episodes of Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous season 2.
The stakes have changed with Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous season 2, moving from the frantic “get off the island before the ferry leaves” pacing of the first season to a survival-oriented, mystery-solving season where the dinosaurs get some kinder treatment.
If you missed Season 1 but are familiar with the legacy of Jurassic Park, you are probably aware that the series revolves around a theme park with genetically engineered dinosaurs. If you’re familiar with the movie Jurassic World, Season 1 of Camp Cretaceous took place during the events of that film. Season 2 follows the aftermath of an escaped, experimental dinosaur hybrid, the Indominus rex, which terrorizes the island and forces the guests to flee. But not everyone made it off the island, we realize: the teenagers who’d been part of the first trial...

The following story contains massive spoilers from all six episodes of The Undoing — proceed at your own peril
Sunday’s series finale of HBO’s The Undoing (read recap here) solved the big “Who killed Elena?” mystery, but we still have so many unanswered questions about the six-episode thriller. And since there is little chance of the limited series returning for a second season, we rang up exec producer David E. Kelley and kindly, gently sought closure on a myriad of topics, including Grace’s perplexing “flashbacks,” Franklin’s mysterious $500K loan to Jonathan and Haley’s killer courtroom declaration.

Euphoria‘s Rue has a one-track mind in the first glimpse at the HBO drama’s upcoming holiday special.
The 50-second spot focuses on Zendaya’s Rue, who sits in a diner and rehashes the tragic events of the Season 1 finale: After suggesting that she and kinda-girlfriend Jules take a train and leave their town behind, Rue had serious second thoughts and wound up staying on the platform, crying, while Jules left her behind. At home later, a highly upset Rue relapsed by snorting a line of drugs.

The Undoing has been slowly unraveling each twist in its season-long murder mystery over the past five weeks, with shocking reveals and red herrings galore. But heading into this Sunday’s finale (HBO, 9/8c), we still don’t have the answer to our most pressing question: Who killed Elena Alves?
Like any good mystery, The Undoing has kept us guessing about the killer’s identity every step of the way. (In fact, we’ve even changed our minds a few times mid-episode.) And when we scan down the cast of characters, just about all of them could be the killer,...

A wild world it is indeed.
Between a global pandemic, tons of relationship drama, and a tiger on the loose, things can definitely be classified as such.
While there was an overemphasis on the wilder aspects, Station 19 Season 4 Episode 2 was still a solid follow-up to the season opener and did a decent job in setting the tone for the season.
Elena may be a piece of work, but at least Andy still has some good relatives left in her corner.
This installment focused on Andy reconnecting with her estranged family, and to say it went 10 times better than her reunion with Elena would be an understatement.
Andy: Everything’s exactly like when we were kids.
Johnny: Why change a good thing, right?
Andy: I love it. Thank you so much, but really you didn’t have to go through all this trouble.
Michelle: She thinks we did this all for her.
