This movie is very daring because showing many unsimulated sex scenes, what is not frequent in mainstream movies. Some young actors are good and promising. The first one is Deborah Révy who plays the leading role. Even if her character is not very credible (a girl obsessed by sex and greedy to make love with many people, just because her father died recently), she plays it well, with a provocative and natural attitude. She's pretty convincing even if the storyboard is rather awkward.
Hélène Zimmer who plays, on the opposite, a shy girl frightened to make love with her boyfriend for the first time, is touching and very convincing too.
In that kind of movie showing explicitly physical love, I preferred "9 songs" by far, because in "Q", one has often the feeling that the explicit sex scenes are shown for themselves and don't really serve the story. so, watching the movie, one have an embarrassing feeling to be a voyeur.
that's pity, it could have been far better. But I enjoyed it anyway.

Director Laurent Bouhnik had an interesting idea, but it didn't translate well on screen. I consider almost every aspect of this film a very rough draft.
1. Character development is almost non-existent. 2. The narrative is choppy and many scenes are unnecessary. 3. The plot lacks direction. 4. The acting is okay at best. 5. None of the characters are particularly likable.
Bottom Line: I've read several reviews that praise this film for it's success in it's depiction of eroticism, however, Bouhnik's overly-heavy focus on sex and erotic behavior doesn't leave enough room for the characters or the story to develop properly. I will admit that there are several (individual) scenes that are strong--diamonds in the rough, if you will--but when the film was over, I had taken nothing from it, felt nothing during it, and was generally uninterested in the story and the characters.

Its hard to make a drama erotic, the more complex if its the other way around. Q is an erotica at its dramatic best, a distant topper in the genre. The plot evolves with lives of some characters revolving around Cecile, the protagonist in the drama, and how she change their lives. Too much subtle the screenplay at times, that we tend to lose it quite easily. And thankfully, the erotic scenes never shadows the feel of the movie which makes it engaging throughout.
The creditable performances from the cast imprints the quality of the drama, and quite deceitfully we get obsessed with the protagonist played by the gorgeous Déborah Révy - a rare breed of voluptuousness and acting prowess. The movie for all its sensuousness should be indebted to some unseen good locale, complemented well by good cinematography. A must stop port this for the erotica lovers, and a good watch for other movie goers. Its an erotica at its dramatic best. 6.5/10

I love this film! It is honest and beautiful, and I actually liked how all the sexy scenes never stopped surprising you. Very sincere and I also love the storyline. There is nothing about this movie that feels fake, and yes, maybe it was not what I expected but it was... fascinating. It also contains some great acting.
More films out there should be this honest and real! And also, I like Cecile's and Chance's relationship, it is just so interesting... You can really see from the beginning how they care for each other, and yet they do not make any promises or expect anything from each other.
The shooting and conversations in the movie is what I feel makes it so honest. Absolutely wonderful.
I would totally watch it again. And again.

But a very effective movie. I had no idea watching this, that it would have graphic nudity in it. Nor that it would also include actual penetration (oral sex and more). But that is not the reason I was positively surprised by this movie. The performances did it. And the fact, that the woman actually feel real in this one. They have their problems and desires and feel like well thought persons, which unfortunately even in "normal" movies is not always the case.
If you don't have a problem with the sexual and erotic nature of the movie, you will watch a drama that is very well made. Interestingly enough by a man, who obviously wanted to break with some conventions and clichés. But remember, this is more an drama that is erotic/sexual, than erotic with some added drama!

I don't usually post IMDB reviews, but for this hot piece of garbage I had to to warn people to please, DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE. You'll waste 1h40 min of your life that you could spend doing anything. This erotic ''movie'' is nothing more but some soft core porn with terrible acting, terrible editing, terrible character development, terrible ''story'' and everyone involved in this production should be ashamed of themselves. They basically just wanted to cash in by putting some real sex scene, but at this point, just watch porn, you'll have a better time in every conceivable way.
This should be shown in high schools to teach girls why men cannot wait to get the hell out of the room as soon as the sex is over. The men in this film were obviously paid well to stay in the rooms. The women are by far the most vapid, tedious, self-absorbed, shallow and narrow as any in the history of civilization. Except perhaps the Kardashians. They all know how to tease and their only interest is sex. The little boys here foster that attitude by being even worse in some respects. There is absolutely not one sentence of engaging dialogue or a hint of any depth of perception. Nothing that is new or unique. The girls are attractive until they begin to speak, and then your arousal is crushed by the banality. Terrible film.

Wow, other reviewers see this as pornography. Take another look. It's about connection and disconnection in French society, in which sex and discussions about sex are used as a central vehicle for showing relations between men and women in French society (or at least younger ones). Note that the director never shows anything above the waist of the nude women in the shower chattering away about sex and men. Note that all the characters are missing each other needs and hence at odds and frustrated. Note the scene in the plaza where everyone is self-absorbed. Note that the author starts the movie with a message that he still believes love is possible.
Where the movie fails most is not in its failure to do more than vaguely allude to the background situation - unemployment and a shipyard strike. Why those are even there is never clarified. Rather, it was the director's inability to bring the story to completion without implanting an implausibly happy ending that left me wondering what was the point of it all. If French social relations are pretty much the same as they were 25 years ago, then the director's gotten quite a bit right. Unfortunately, he didn't know where to go with it. That's why, in spite of the good acting (for the most part), I gave it only six stars.

Good movie to watch for especially the love connection the movie is not bad at all it speaks in moving love.
I really liked this film. It was shot in lovely locations in the French countryside, on the beach-front and in little town cafés, and it featured a host of beautiful actors and actresses (many of them non-professional). Yes there is a lot of explicit (non-simulated) sex and nudity throughout but for a film which is about exploring the central role of sexuality in our modern lives it makes sense and I didn't find it either offensive or pornographic. Though very sexually explicit the scenes were tasteful and beautifully shot. It was also quite a funny film. You could definitely watch this with your girlfriend or boyfriend.
I wish all countries could treat sexuality in a matter-of-fact way like this as the French do.

I guess if you can make it past the first 20 minutes then it might be interesting to watch.
This was boring for me. it might be an interesting piece for those who haven't watched enough of soft/erotic kind of flicks, but for me this is nothing new nor creative because I couldn't grasp the story gem. sorry but this was a really outrageously lame filming and acting, because honestly nowadays porn companies produce way better scenarios than this and more convincing as well I give this four for the effort.

I viewed the Strand Releasing version, which was stated to have toned down the sex scenes. Their version is still a pretty strong R film with plenty of nudity. There are intermittent B&W nude scenes set in a shower where they are frankly discussing men and their desires. The film is about young people in France, during a time of strikes and unemployment, so they are mainly jobless and aimless, at times destructive and obsessed with lust. The men talk primarily about getting "it", and the women want more then a simple coupling, and also seem to understand the power they have over the men when they withhold themselves. The passionate scenes between them seemed to have feelings that simple porn movies never have. I really liked the one scene where the mother was concerned about what her daughter might be doing with her boyfriend, and the father then assures his daughter that he and her mother also played around. There is an error with one of the women, when she says she needs her glasses to see, and then for the rest of the film is not wearing glasses (she was told she looked better without glasses.) Movie with subtitles.

The opening was controversial. Erotic without being pornographic, music is briliantlly chosen and incorporated, but the story and acting.. bad. Too much soap opera to be viewed as realistic today.

Many will say it's porn but it's not. It's real, filmed, very explicit. And very intelligently edited. All exceptional actors.

Many people like erotic movies. Many people do not like hardcore movies, simply because hardcore movies are not artistic. I am one of these people, and I like this movie.
Another movie that is mimic to this one is another French movie called Baise Moi. However, Q is more artistic and better made than Baise Moi. Not only with better casting, but with better storyline.
The close up shooting in bathroom is impressive, it perfectly demonstrated the beauty of woman. I truly like the director's taste. Those scenes are beautiful and unforgettable.
The story is not complicated but the thought beyond that is very true: a man and a woman, when live together, must be compatible and matched each other both mentally and physically. If it doesn't happen, a true love would not be generated. And the two people will get in trouble if they still stay together.
I would give an 8 out of 10 for this movie.

A good movie, conceptualised the desire in a while mirror that reflects the small pulses of human nature. Frustration has been idealised with sex desire.
I can't review the plot as I have a fast forward button on my remote. I will say that this is a step up from Cinemax. The women are attractive and there's not a shortage of fantastic "art" scenes. I will have to re-watch sometime so I can get the plot, so definitely a movie you can watch multiple times.
