Buffy Summers might be returning to our television screens in the near future and the planned Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot just got a big update.

In addition to Sarah Michelle Gellar joining the cast to reprise her role as Buffy Summers, the project has landed its first new slayer in actor Ryan Kiera Armstrong (via Deadline). Horror fans might recognize her from the 2022 Firestarter remake or from the tenth season of American Horror Story.

According to the outlet, the 15-year-old actor has been cast "as an introverted high-school student" in the latest Buffyverse project. Since she is also allegedly a slayer, we can assume she might be something of an outcast at school and then find her purpose when she's selected as the next generation's slayer. Buffy is likely to act as a mentor for her.

But keep in mind that, currently, the reboot is only in the pilot stage.

The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot pilot at Hulu has found its new slayer — Ryan Kiera Armstrong.

Armstrong has been cast in a lead role in the pilot opposite returning star Sarah Michelle Gellar. The pilot was originally announced at Hulu back in February. Exact plot details are under wraps, but sources previously said the pilot will focus on a new slayer with Gellar appearing in a recurring role as Buffy.

“From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side,” Gellar said. “To have that kind of emotional intelligence , and talent, at such a young age is truly gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.”

“American Love Story,” Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX series following the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, has found two of its major players: Naomi Watts will play Jackie Kennedy, while newcomer Paul Kelly leads the series as JFK Jr.

They join the cast alongside Sarah Pidgeon, who was previously announced to be playing Bessette-Kennedy.

The series will mark the fourth collaboration between Murphy and Watts. Most recently, in 2024, she played Babe Paley in “Capote vs. The Swans,” the second season of Murphy’s FX anthology series following historic celebrity rivalries. After dropping a first look photo earlier today, the first official teaser trailer for Spider-Noir has found its way online, offering a sensational sneak peek at the upcoming Nicolas Cage-fronted series that is set to arrive on our small screens in 2026.

The synopsis reads, "Spider-Noir is a live-action series based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir. Spider-Noir tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero."

Disney TV’s studio head has offered an update on the future of American Horror Story. In an interview with Deadline, Eric Schrier gave an update on life after season 13 of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's anthology series.

He admitted that the network doesn't "have another incarnation of American Horror Story ordered" at the moment, but they would be up for it if “Ryan has an idea that is great.” American Horror Story ran for 12 seasons between 2011 and 2024, with AHS season 13 on the way next year. Over the years, the show has covered haunted houses and hotels, aliens, witch covens, and cults.

Fans out there who have been ride or die with Ryan Murphy’s spooky-scary anthology series, American Horror Story, since its premiere all the way back in 2011 are in for some terrific news today. Exclusive: Vanished, the indie action thriller from Randy Charach, is leading Glass House Distribution’s Cannes Film Festival slate.

The pic comprises one of three Glasshouse has acquired in a worldwide rights deal with Charach Productions – the other two being David Lynch-inspired horror Texas Nightmare and action drama Clutch. Charach produces all three, with Michael Merino or Jared Cohn attached as directors.

Don’t expect Patti LuPone to return to the American Horror Story universe anytime soon.

In a new interview, the Broadway star seemingly shut down the possibility that she would come back to the FX anthology series for Season 13.

During an interview with Gold Derby, the reporter asked LuPone if she would return to American Horror Story, adding that creator Ryan Murphy wanted “to bring the group back together for Season 13.”

“What group is that, though?” LuPone asked.

The outlet suggested it was the “really, really cool people,” but LuPone didn’t buy it and said, “Yeah, I don’t think so,” adding, “I think he was probably talking about the guys.”

Bates, a titan of stage and screen, is poised to make Emmy history this year. If she receives a nomination for her magnetic performance in CBS’s “Matlock” reboot, she will become the oldest nominee ever in the lead drama actress category — at the age of 77.

Bates, born June 28, 1948, would be just two weeks past her birthday when the 2025 Emmy nominations are announced on July 17. Should her name be called — as many believe she’s the current frontrunner in the category — she would surpass the record held by Angela Lansbury, who was 70 when she received her final nomination in 1996 for “Murder, She Wrote.”

The first two episodes of the gritty crime drama will premiere on June 27, with one episode following weekly every Friday until the show concludes in an epic finale on August 8. Inspired by true events, Smoke tells the story of a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator hot on the trail of two serial arsonists. The series is based on the acclaimed podcast Firebug, which was previously believed to be the title of the show until this latest announcement. Smoke was written and created for television by Dennis Lehane, who will also produce. John Leguizamo has also been cast in an undisclosed role in the show.

As confirmed by series lead Titus Welliver, the upcoming spin-off Ballard—led by Maggie Q—is already on the way, with plans to arrive sometime in 2025. As a Steven Spielberg project films in the area, the Made in Huntington Film & TV Festival is officially launching, with the awards ceremony streaming April 7 on NewsdayTV through a new deal with the festival, Variety can exclusively reveal.

Starting Thursday and running through April 6, the festival is hosting 14 public screenings, with a total of 35 titles chosen from 100 submissions. For festival executive producer and Huntington’s director of film and television Joe Schramm, the festival is a unique opportunity to highlight production opportunities in Long Island.

“Huntington is a unique place because a lot of television and film executives, producers, directors and screenwriters live here,” Schramm tells Variety. “I’m a little surprised — there are a lot of people who, like myself, work for the same companies over the years and, now that they’re semi-retiring, they’re becoming filmmakers at age 55 or 60 for the first time.”

While we'll have to wait until this summer to find out who's wielding the hook, we do now that the movie will feature the return of both Jennifer Love Hewitt as Julie James and Freddie Prinze Jr. as Ray Bronson.
