The 42-year-old “Simple & Clean” Japanese pop icon returned Thursday (May 1) with “Mine or Yours,” a brand new single with a tie-in with Coca-Cola’s Ayataka.

The song was produced by Hikaru and Henry Bowers-Broadbent.

In a surprising status update, it looks as if the new film, The Resurrection of the Christ, will actually start much sooner than previously thought. Deadline is reporting that the CEO of Rome’s historic Cinecittà Studios, Manuela Cacciamani, has confirmed that Gibson’s biblical epic starts shooting at the lot this summer.

Mel Gibson is back in the director’s chair for the upcoming Mark Wahlberg thriller Flight Risk. While it’s a different kind of film than the Mad Max star has helmed (his directing resume is dominated by historical epics), Gibson seems to be having a ball promoting the movie after a new featurette was released by Lionsgate. Additionally, he has recently showed up on the popular podcast The Joe Rogan Experience. While on the show, he talks about a long-talked-about sequel to one of his biggest movies, The Passion of the Christ.

According to Deadline, Gibson says on the podcast that he is hoping to shoot the sequel, to be titled The Resurrection of the Christ, sometime next year. The Lethal Weapon star talked about the script he co-wrote with his brother and Braveheart scribe, Randall Wallace, that took seven years to write. He explained,

I’m hoping next year sometime.

LL Cool J hit the MTV VMAs stage Wednesday night with a medley of his classic hits and new tunes to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Def Jam Records.

The rapper — whose performance featured an appearance by Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav and Chuck D, who are two of LL’s original Def Jam labelmates — took to the stage toward the end of the three-hour show.

LL kicked off the high-energy performance with “Headsprung,” with audience members wearing the rapper’s signature Kangol hats, all in red. LL Cool J has announced his first album in 11 years, with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee assembling an impressive guest list for new LP The Force.

Eminem, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Saweetie, and Busta Rhymes are just some of the talents that grace LL’s 14th studio album and first since 2013’s Authentic, with Q-Tip serving as producer on the entire project.

“We’re talking 14 tracks of straight fire, all crafted by myself and the one and only Q-Tip,” LL said in a statement.

LL Cool J has announced The Force (Frequencies of Real Creative Energy), his first new album in 11 years. It’s out in full on September 6th via Def Jam Recordings/Virgin Music Group, but you can hear the second single “Passion” below.

Exclusive: Former Netflix Emea Head of Animated Series Alexi Wheeler is launching UK-based production company Wheel In Motion under the auspices of burgeoning French content conglomerate Superprod Group.

The new company will develop new shows and movies targeting diverse audiences, in both animation and live-action genres.

In a recent interview with Manga Passion, Mayu Nakamura, the manga editor of Shoujo Manga Magazine Bessatsu Friend, shed light on the preference of live-action adaptations over anime for shoujo manga.

Nakamura attributed this prominence of live-actions to business consideration within the industry, emphasizing that it’s a reflection of the demands of the domestic media market.

While acknowledging that shoujo manga could indeed be suitable for anime adaptation, Nakamura highlighted the significant demand for live-action series and movies within Japan, particularly targeting young women.

According to Nakamura, the Japanese film industry aims to produce a certain number of romance movies annually, often intended for viewing on dates. Shoujo manga, with their diverse romantic storylines, thus offer attractive source material for such productions. Furthermore, Nakamura noted the industry’s reliance on young male actors to portray leading roles in these romance movies, thereby enhancing their popularity.

German acting legend Hanna Schygulla will be honored this year with a lifetime achievement award at the German Film Awards.

The hit London revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard is heading to Broadway later this year and bringing star Nicole Scherzinger and the rest of the West End principal cast with it.

As Deadline’s Baz Bamigboye revealed before Christmas, Scherzinger will make her Broadway debut reprising her acclaimed performance as Norma Desmond.

Although production dates and venue are still to be announced, producers said today that the musical will star Scherzinger along with her West End castmates Tom Francis (as Joe Gillis), Grace Hodgett-Young (Betty Schaefer) and David Thaxton (Max Von Mayerling).

In addition to preview and opening night dates, additional casting will be announced shortly. A fall 2024 opening has been widely speculated.

Ning Hao’s The Movie Emperor will screen as the opening film of Macau’s Asia-Europe Young Cinema Film Festival, which is holding its inaugural edition from January 5-11. Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail, recently a hit in India, will screen as the closing film.

The event has two major sections – a programme of masterclasses and screenings aimed at young directors, film students and local audiences, and a Works-in-Progress (WiP) Lab, which will be attended by international sales agents, distributors and festival programmers.

She will portray Muriel Landon, young Oliver Wolf’s mother in flashbacks, throughout Season 1. Murial does what she does to protect her son as Oliver’s dad and her ex-husband struggles with his mental health.

From writer/executive producer Michael Grassi, Dr. Wolf is inspired by the books The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and An Anthropologist on Mars by Oliver Sacks. It follows a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist, Dr. Oliver Wolf (Quinto), and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health.

The debut feature from Hamaguchi Ryûsuke, one of today’s preeminent auteurs, examines a series of intersecting love triangles as only he can, plunging headlong into the exposed-nerve confessions and unrequited attachments among a group of thirtysomethings. It begins when a couple, Kaho (Kawai Aoba) and Tomoya (Okamoto Ryuta), announce their engagement to their friends over dinner, where it’s also revealed the groom had an affair years earlier. While the two spend the evening apart, Tomoya follows his friends to the apartment of his former classmate (Urabe Fusako), with whom he’s in love, and are led into ever more vulnerable and shocking exchanges of emotional honesty. Though it was made as his student thesis project at Tokyo University of the Arts, Passion displays Hamaguchi’s rich and nuanced insight into modern relationships while establishing the thematic foundations for his later films.

‘Ocean On Fire’ will move the drama from the UK to the Philippines.

British Filipino filmmaker Paris Zarcilla has revealed that the third in his ‘Rage’ trilogy of films will move from the UK to the Philippines and be titled Ocean On Fire.

It will build on his debut and the first in the series, Raging Grace, which premiered at SXSW festival in March and won best narrative feature and the Thunderbird Rising award. Watching the film brings to mind the evolution of the career of Paul Thomas Anderson, who went from crafting messy humanist spectacles to austere, immaculate chamber pieces that appear to exist in perpetual anxiety over being digested on conventional emotional terms. Evil Does Not Exist suggests a similar turn for Hamaguchi, and though this film finds him more than capable of playing the role of cryptic genius auteur, one may wonder what is lost in the trade.
