Mi burro: esos huesos

Weird but Fun

Mi Burro: Esos Hueos (2011)

*** (out of 4)

Weird animated short about a young Mexican orphan and his burro who work the streets begging for money. The money earned is so that the young boy can keep his burro friend by buying him food and getting him laid by female prostitutes. You might be saying WTF and that would be a good reaction to this 7-minute short, which is far from a masterpiece but I must admit that it kept me entertained from start to finish and it even made me laugh a couple times. This was produced by Lucky McKee so that should tell you just about everything you need to know. In case you don't know the name he has directed some pretty bizarre horror films including THE WOMAN, which this short is an extra on. The animation is quite rude but there's no question this was what director Zach Passero wanted because it actually fits the locations quite well. I thought the director, who also wrote the screenplay, did a pretty good job at not taking anything too serious and just delivering a unique looking film that fans of the weird should enjoy.
