Well Done! Was one of the best movies i have seen in my intire life. It is not the average film that you expect from a comedy, but that's what makes it so special. It's a nice, comfort film that talks about hard topics and how to solve them, with a little comedy to the side. If you want a fast, super funny comedy film, with many fantasies THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. Well Done! Is a perfect example of how not everything has to be the same, to be amazing. I suggest watching this with the original french voiceacting, beacuse it really adds to the character of the film (i don't know why, I just feel like it does) I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT AN AMERICAN COMEDY WITH EXPLOSIONS AND LASER AND GUNS!
Such a wonderful Movie that is criminally underrated
Malkovich is giving as usual an outstanding performance.
The other actors are doing a solid performance aswell.
Their is some nice synergy between them.
The Dialoges are pretty interesting, it's one of those movies which aims for a higher intellect, while also staying grounded due it's whacky silliness at some points :D
This movie wants you to think about it and not just consume it like the vast hollywood productions nowadays.
I never thought that malkovich would fit so good into the French Comedy aspect.
As someone who grew up with movies from all over the world.
I fully enjoyed this movie, but cannot recommend it for all viewers, since it's a special movie and not your average movie.
If you like French movies give it a try.
If you don't but do like dialoges, give it also a try.

This film is so gentle that you'd need to be of a very delicate predisposition to seriously enjoy it -- right up until some horribly misjudged scenes near the end where our hero starts behaving like a dangerous criminal. These are apparently intended to play as light and whimsical, but women who have been the victims of home invasions are unlikely to see the funny side. As for John Malkovich, he speaks French well enough that I can understand his desire to show it off, but not so well that he's able to act unselfconsciously while speaking it. His character spends the entire film doing implausible things for unbelievable reasons.
Or is it not being John ... well you get what I am aiming for ... I hope! So no pun intended - this is nothing like the movie I referenced in my summary headline. But our main character has lost his ... well drive for life. And he hopes to find it where he met his now deceased wife. Will he be able to do that? You have to watch the movie to find out.
Malkovich is serving here ... and is speaking French quite well! Way better than I ever will be able too for sure. And I think better than some other US actors (I won't name any, because I reckon that is not well received - and I don't mean to offend anyone anyway).
This movie may be predictable - but it is a really nice and good movie ... at heart and soul! Well done! Great acting, costumes and sound ....

A little too contrived. Throws a lot at it to make it quirky but not enough sticks. Too little Fanny Ardant. For a Brit Malkovich speaks with a pronounced American accent. Also, I know he can speak much better French than that. And he insists on speaking it even with native speakers of English, which makes no sense. His turn of phrase is also unnaturally complicated and it's difficult following him. It's telling when I can understand the French characters much better than him.
Nice surprise seeing the guy from Profilage here. He brought some much needed freshness here.
The sights are beautiful but not quite enough to make up for the forced campiness. Very cliché plot and resolution with a few good scenes here and there.

- TriviaJohn Malkovich shot the movie in French. Despite being fluent in French it was a challenge to learn so much French dialogue, and he worked with a coach, the director's daughter.
- GoofsMr Blake is obviously a very intelligent man, and fond of playing chess. However the improper backwards set up of the chess board is obvious. Unfortunately the chess board was incorrectly set up, so that the bottom-right square is black.
Unfortunately as a consequence, the black queen and king plus the white queen and king are all on the wrong starting squares. No one ever plays the game of chess with the bottom-right square as black, because then all the kings and queens would then be incorrectly placed on the wrong color starting squares. How to set up the pieces on a chess board: First set up the board so that the bottom-right square is white . . . Place a rook on each of your two corners . . . Place the knights next to the rooks . . . Place the bishops to the inside of the knights . . . Place the queen on the remaining, matching-color square . . .
