Zombie Massacre 2: Reich of the Dead follows Apocalypse Z (2013), or possibly Eaters (2011). In the film, WWII rages on, with a bunch of zombies! Zombie flicks are a tempting choice for first-time filmmakers; with a little bit of shaky cam action, some basic makeup effects, and actors who can do the bare minimum of looking scared and running, you can make a zombie horror with minimal effort and talent. Maybe that’s what attracted Marco Ristori and Luca Boni to write and direct Zombie Massacre (aka Apocalypse Z), the follow-up to their first and similarly poorly made film Eaters. All their effort wasn’t for naught though, as Zombie Massacre does earn a very noteworthy distinction: it will easily be one of the worst zombie movies you ever force yourself to watch. It’s not the so-bad-it’s-funny kind of film, it’s the painfully awful piece of garbage variety that filmmakers should only show to their closest friends and family and then destroy. There’s nothing of value here.

A new film is being developed by Italian production company Doghouse Pictures. The title is Beautiful People and producer Marco Palese is attached to this film. Palese also produced the Italian language and zombie film Eaters. Beautiful People is also an undead film. The film's story follows a scientist whose experiments are upset by masked raiders. The cover art for Eaters proclaims that the film is “presented by Uwe Boll.” This information should be more than enough for potential viewers to make up their minds. Mr. Boll did not direct this latest take on the zombie apocalypse, nor did he have much direct involvement with the production. So if the best your Italian zombie film has to trumpet is a tenuous association with the reviled filmmaker of House of the Dead, then you’ve already set the expectation level rather low. It turns out the Boll mention was an adequate, and honest, admonition of the resulting 95 minutes.

We've been talking about this one for a while now, and the official word has come down that the Uwe Boll presented zombie flick Eaters is finally on its way to American shores. Read on to find out if you're on the menu!

Synopsis:

After the devastation of the Great Epidemic, the world is overrun by hordes of living dead. Two zombie hunters and a scientist set out to find the cause of the obliteration of the human race and a cure for the epidemic, all while trying to stay alive amidst the growing number of ferocious zombies, including neo-Nazis and the daughter of the feared plague-spreader. Eaters is presented by Uwe Boll (In The Name of the King, Bloodrayne) and features a soundtrack by Steve Sylvester, founder of black metal band Death SS.

Director Uwe Boll’s latest project is the video-game-turned-film, Zombie Massacre. Boll is producing the adaptation which is based on a 1998 first-person shooter game for the Amiga computer. It’s directed by Luca Boni and Marco Ristori who made Eaters. Here’s the story:

A bacteriological weapon – developed by the Us Government to create a super soldier – spreads an epidemic in a quiet little town in the middle od Eastern Europe. All citiziens have been turned into infected zombies. The plan is: to bring an atomic bomb into the nuclear plant of the city to pretend a terrible accident. No one has to know the truth. A commando of mercenaries is hired to do the mission. The battle is on. Hordes of monsters against a bunch of men. Who will survive?

The airport setting is faintly reminiscent of Quarantine 2: Terminal and maybe just a little of Nightmare City, but nowhere near as batshit crazy.

Uwe Boll didn’t actually direct Eaters but he does “present” it. Don’t let that scare you off because this Italian nod to Romero-esque zombie flicks has gotten some fairly decent reviews. We Americans will finally get our chance to get eaten this coming March.

Mark March 5th on your calendar because that’s the day the dead will be devouring DVD, the date when E1 Entertainment brings Eaters to American shores. If you want to know how long it has taken for North America to get Eaters, our own UK critic “Pestilence” penned a positive review of the UK DVD release all the way back in June 2011.

Eaters or Eaters: Rise of the Dead is an Italian film in Italian that puts two characters on the road in an apocalypse. Much of the world's population is dead and those remaining shamble the earth forever. This is a tense zombie film that focuses primarily on two characters, Igor (Alex Lucchesi) and Alen (Guglielmo Favilla). Everyone else in the film, including a midget Fascist, are just a small part of this travelling zombie road show.

Much like a circus, this new world is full of perverts, mad scientists, talking zombies and even a bloodsport arena. Igor and Alen encounter all of these situations, but they deal with them in two different ways. One film festival I'm bound and determined to make it to one of these years is the South African HorrorFest, but for now I'll just have to live vicariously through those of you who live close enough to attend. For most movie and video game fans, even mentioning the name Uwe Boll leads to an instant negative reaction, akin to vomiting and rocking back and forth in a fetal position. The German director has become infamous to buying up video game properties, like Bloodrayne and Alone in the Dark, and turning them into nearly unwatchable dreck with few exceptions (I’ll defend Postal if I have to, please don’t let it come to that). And now Boll has added a new video game to his hit list.

You'd be hard–pressed to find actual fans of Uwe Boll—the director behind such video game adaptations as House of the Dead, Bloodrayne, and Far–Cry, not to mention many others—and sometimes it would seem that that's just the way the German–born filmmaker prefers it.

Now Boll is getting involved with the living dead, with a new movie called Zombie Massacre. It's based on a 1998 Amiga computer video game (seen here; not sure why all of the "zombies" look like Sammy Hagar) along the same lines as Doom that's also called Gloom 4.

Boll won't be directing the film, however—that job will be handled by Marco Ristori and Luca Boni, the duo behind the Italian horror, Eaters—he'll only be producing this one.

Bloody Disgusting reports that the "Alone in the Dark," "Bloodrayne" and "House of the Dead" filmmaker has acquired the film rights to the 1998 Amiga game "Zombie Massacre".

The game itself was essentially a poor man's clone of the then much more impactful and popular "Doom" game franchise.

The relief comes in that Boll isn't directing this time, rather he's producing and is letting "Eaters" duo Marco Ristori and Luca Boni take the helm. A teaser trailer is already reportedly due sometime next month.

Fans of 1998's Zombie Massacre video game, I bet you never thought you'd see a film adaptation of what was basically an unoriginal Doom wannabe. Furthermore, it's coming courtesy of none other than Uwe Boll, whose presence this time will be in a producer capacity.

What we have here is a teaser poster for the film, directed by Marco Ristori and Luca Boni (co-directors of Eaters). No word yet on distribution but we're told to expect a teaser trailer sometime in October.

We don't even have a plot crunch yet, so all we really know is that a lot of zombies will be massacred. No word on whether or not this will be a straight-up zombie shooter, or if the team involved are just using a (barely) recognizable title to make a low-budget horror film. As the dead perpetually rise, it’s hard to maintain an unbiased view. What started as a fun, revitalizing trend for the horror genre has become a punch-line in recent years. Eaters, however, has one of the most enticing and interesting mixtures of zombie loving lineage going for it that I’ve seen in a long time. Director: Luca Boni & Marco Ristori. Review: Adam Wing. Is anybody else getting bored of zombies? If there’s one sub-genre that really needs an injection of fresh meat, it’s the zombie horror genre. It’s easy to see why we’re drowning in a sea of undead corpses and rotting flesh - they’re cheap to produce and make lots of money. With Frank Darabont’s The Walking Dead proving a huge hit on both sides of the pond, there’s no escape from the decaying corpse of originality. The Walking Dead is wonderful of course, thanks in large to a great cast and well-written characters. On the big screen however, zombie movies continue to churn out the same blend of gory mayhem, groaning dead guys and disengaging zombie fodder. Uwe Boll, a name that has terrorised the world of quality entertainment since 1991, isn’t opposed to bringing the dead back to life either.

To feel sceptical about a film presented by cult writer Uwe Boll feels almost universal. I’m in the same boat as a magnitude of others, right? It’s dampened further with a film titled Eaters: Rise of the Dead. Another addition to the post-apocalyptic zombie features that are churned onto DVD weekly, with most failing to strike an original spark and flailing incoherently into something that merely glorifies sanguinary carnage.

The world has become ravaged by zombies, again. But this time we’re in Italy, with the female population falling not only infected first, but being deemed infertile. Our story, however, follows two zombie hunters, Alen and Igor, under the jurisdiction of scientist Gyno,...

The end of the world: Italy. First the women died, then nearly everyone else died - and then, they began to come back...

You know the scene. The dead walk, the survivors are few, and to make things worse, they're all male. In an obscure corner of Italy, zombie hunters Igor (Alex Lucchesi) and Alen (Guglielmo Favilla) provide undead test subjects for the experiments of the rather twitchy research scientist Gyno (Claudio Marmugi). Gyno's main lab-rat, however, is Alen's girlfriend Alexis (Rosella Elmi), the only female not to have been entirely 'zombified' during the Great Epidemic - and perhaps the only chance of a cure and potential future for mankind.

Trouble lies ahead when the guys discover a healthy living girl who may provide part of the answer as to how the apocalypse came to be - and what exactly the mysterious Gyno is really up to back in the lab.
