Top Gun: Maverick

Quentin Tarantino’s Favorite Movies: 65 Films the Director Wants You to See
Image
To say that few filmmakers love movies as much as Quentin Tarantino is a staggering understatement. Few people love movies as much as Quentin Tarantino, and the cinephile’s tastes continue to shape Hollywood.

The video store clerk-turned-director has spent decades dazzling interviewers and fans with his unparalleled knowledge of cinema history, with tastes that range from universally acclaimed classics to more obscure and even lowbrow fare. While his love of spaghetti Westerns and exploitation flicks has always been well-documented, Tarantino isn’t afraid to publicly embrace the modern or mainstream. He proudly championed “Top Gun: Maverick” in the summer of 2022, as did so many others. Not to mention, he’s a fan of rom-coms, particularly on long flights. (He once dubbed Kate Hudson “the queen of the skies” and he’s not wrong!) The man just loves cinema, and if a film entertains him, he’s going to tell the world about it.

Ballerina Star Ana de Armas Confirmed To Join Tom Cruise In Supernatural Thriller Deeper
Image
Following months of speculation, Deadline has confirmed that Academy Award-nominee Ana de Armas (Ballerina; No Time to Die; Knives Out) has indeed signed on to star opposite Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible; Top Gun: Maverick; Edge of Tomorrow) in his upcoming undersea supernatural thriller Deeper.

Plot details are buried deep, but the promising feature follows an astronaut who encounters a terrifying force while on a deep dive into a never-before-explored trench.

The film, which has been in the works for nearly a decade, will be helmed by Doug Liman, who previously worked with Cruise on Edge of Tomorrow and American Made, both of which were critical and commercial successes.

Cruise and de Armas have been photographed together at multiple events this past year, which has sparked dating rumors, but Dhd claims the pair are currently undergoing the extensive diving training required for the project.

Deeper is based off a Max Landis...

Tom Cruise & Ana de Armas to Dive Into Supernatural Thriller ‘Deeper’ from ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Director Doug Liman
Image
We first reported on Deeper, a spec script by Max Landis, way back in 2006. MGM won the bidding war for the rights but it has yet to move forward despite attaching several big names — including Bradley Cooper, Gal Gadot, and Idris Elba — in the years since.

But if anyone can get a movie made, it’s Tom Cruise — and Deadline is reporting that he’d like to make the aquatic supernatural thriller his next project.

The story follows an astronaut who encounters a terrifying force while on a deep dive into a never-before-explored trench.

Doug Liman is set to direct, with Christopher McQuarrie involving in re-writing the script.

Ana de Armas is attached to co-star. She and Cruise have reportedly been undergoing the required diving training for the movie.

The budget is estimated to be in the $200 million range, which is the biggest hurdle in getting the green light.

Image
Tom Cruise has confirmed that a third Top Gun movie is officially in development. The actor revealed this during an interview with Australia’s Today, saying that the long-awaited sequel is being discussed.

Paramount first confirmed the development of Top Gun 3 back in 2023, with Cruise returning as test pilot and flight instructor Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

Tom Cruise Reveals How They Shot the Craziest Stunt in ‘Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning’
Image
It was inevitable. On Wednesday at Cannes at the packed grand théâtre Lumière, Christopher McQuarrie, wearing a pale peach suit, measuredly answered questions from French journalist Didier Allouch about his writing and directing career, from “The Usual Suspects” (social media would give away the twisty ending today) and “The Way of the Gun” with Benicio del Toro, to collaborating with Tom Cruise on 11 movies. Then his star popped in, sporting a short-sleeved maroon ensemble, to hijack the conversation.

While Cruise and McQuarrie say the right things about respecting each other, it’s clear how much power Cruise has over the “Mission” franchise, now in its eighth iteration. While “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” is billed as the finale, a special IMAX screening later that evening played rousingly and offered an open-ended conclusion. (The $400 million film was shot in IMAX.) After a London premiere and buzzy Cannes launch, the movie...

Tom Cruise Bids Farewell to Mission Impossible: Is It Ethan Hunt’s Final Mission?
Image
Tom Cruise is back to save cinema again with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The eighth (and possibly final) installment in the series, which began in 1996, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year and reportedly got a five-minute standing ovation. Cruise was in attendance with the rest of the cast and crew of the film.

Cruise has been playing Ethan Hunt for three decades now, and with each installment, he has pushed the boundaries of what could be done in the stunt space. He has performed many of the death-defying stunts on his own and has been a proponent for the big-screen experience. The Final Reckoning might just be his last in the franchise.

Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Stands At 87% Rotten Tomatoes Score So Far(Photo Credit –YouTube)

The time for reckoning has arrived for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, as its review embargo has lifted at the Cannes Film Festival, and accumulated scores from critics are now available on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic.

The eighth Mission: Impossible spectacle starring Tom Cruise is largely believed to be the final entry in Hollywood’s most acclaimed spy-action franchise. The stakes could not be higher after seven years of back-to-back production and an accumulated $700 million budget for this and Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning (via The Numbers).

The Cannes extravaganza has not disappointed reviewers and followers of the franchise, though not all feedback is entirely positive. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has been received, following its five-minute standing ovation, with an 87% “certified fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes as per 97 reviews (at...

Tom Cruise’s Crazy, Death-Defying Stunts Land 5-Minute Cannes Standing Ovation at ‘Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ Premiere
Image
Tom Cruise said goodbye to the “Mission: Impossible” franchise in electrifying fashion at the Cannes Film Festival, where “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” earned a five-minute ovation thanks in part to Cruise’s commitment to putting breathless and death-defying practical stunts on the big screen. The Cannes premiere was a massive event, with a 40-piece orchestra welcoming guests into the theater with the franchise’s iconic theme before the screening.

The audience lapped up the film’s special effects but the long run-time left some theatergoers bleary-eyed and exhausted. In the final stretch of the film, featuring death-defying acrobatics from Cruise, a handful of attendees got up and fled the Palais.

Though Cruise’s willingness to risk his life for “Mission: Impossible” has been covered relentlessly, what the Cannes audience did not expect was how much he was willing to bare all.

The 62-year-old survived a three-minute knife fight...

New ‘Superman’ Trailer Takes Flight
Image
The long awaited final trailer for DC Studios’ “Superman” has finally arrived with the focus being placed on the film’s story. Watch it below.

The first part of the trailer is structured around an interview that Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) is conducting with Clark Kent/Superman (David Corenswet) about his intervention in a foreign war. Finally, Kent screams “People were going to die.” We get flashes of both that conflict and a battle seemingly in Metropolis, with a building falling over and Superman getting help out of a crater.

We see flashes of other scenes – a woman with spinning blades for hands dispatching robots at the Fortress of Solitude, Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) glowering, voice over from Kent’s adoptive father Jonathan Kent (Pruitt Taylor Vince), plus glimpses of Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) and Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion). And, of course, Krypto.

Image
Less than two months after Val Kilmer’s death, his Top Gun: Maverick co-star Tom Cruise has been effusive in praising the actor while talking to Sight and Sound magazine. The pair first played rival fighter pilots Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the 1986 action movie Top Gun, before they returned for its 2022 sequel. In this second installment, Iceman has terminal throat cancer, which was a contributing factor to Kilmer’s death in real life. Cruise describes how the late actor still embodied his character despite being unable to speak, explaining, “He was Iceman.” (via Collider)

Kilmer returns as Iceman in Top Gun: Maverick during a three-minute scene in which Maverick goes to his character for advice. “It was like time had not passed,” Cruise told Sight and Sound, in reference to working with his Top Gun rival again 35 years after the first movie’s release. “We were laughing and it was joyous.

Landing a spot on the list has essentially become a rite of passage in the industry.

But what does it take to earn a sweet spot on Cruise’s cake radar? Simon Pegg recently jokingly broke down the core elements of a friendship with Tom Cruise. And behind the humor lie a strict set of “rules”. From physical trials to building real connections, here’s a look into three things actors need to keep in mind if they wanna be on the recipients’ list of this delicious holiday tradition.

Due to commitments to her education, Simon Pegg’s teenage daughter will not be seen at the movie’s premiere. However, if it were up to Tom Cruise, Matilda would be by his father’s side on the red carpet, putting her school on the back burner. Luckily, Simon Pegg was right there to steer his daughter in the right direction.

Simon Pegg Has a Comedy Reunion with Edgar Wright in the Works — but It’s Not a ‘Shaun of the Dead’ Sequel
Image
Simon Pegg is shutting down any hope for a “Shaun of the Dead” sequel amid its 20th anniversary. Pegg, who collaborated with writer/director Edgar Wright for the “Cornetto Trilogy,” which included “Shaun of the Dead,” “Hot Fuzz,” and “The World’s End,” told Variety that he will reunite with Wright for another comedy soon — just not within the “Shaun of the Dead” world.

“It’s lovely to be asked, and the following that film has is the best you can hope for as a filmmaker, but ‘Shaun’ is a story with a beginning, middle and end, and it’s a story that to add to it — like ‘Alien 3′ did to Aliens’ — might end up detracting from the original,” Pegg said. “So certainly when Edgar and I make our next film, we’re going to really disappoint everybody.”

“Shaun of the Dead” starred Pegg as one of the sole survivors of a zombie apocalypse.

AMC Theatres To Sell Discounted Movie Tickets Starting This July
Image
AMC Theatres, the largest movie theater chain in the world, is looking to bring audiences back out to the movies on a weekday by cutting the prices on Wednesday tickets. The summer movie season kicked off with Thunderbolts* and with high-profile films like Superman, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Lilo & Stitch, Jurassic World: Rebirth, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps all set to open, many films will be competing for audiences' attention. However, with rising prices and an uncertain economic future, the prospect of going to the movies is becoming more expensive for some.

AMC Theatres announced, via The Hollywood Reporter, that starting Jul. 9, 2025, adult premium movie tickets will be 50% off on Wednesdays to anyone who signs up for AMC Stubs, the theater chain's free rewards program. This will kick into effect after Jurassic World: Rebirth opens in theaters for the Fourth of July weekend, and just before Superman opens in theaters.

‘Top Gun’ vs ‘F1’: Brad Pitt May Be Tom Cruise’s Rival But It’s Hard to Beat What Maverick Achieved for 3 Reasons
Image
Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise have been reported to be rivals for as long as one can remember, with both of them deemed competitive while striving for the top spot in the entertainment industry. The former’s upcoming movie F1 is expected to take this very rivalry to the next level, especially since it is being compared to the latter’s Top Gun film series.

But while this soon-to-be-released sports-action movie is expected to put up a fair competition to Cruise’s action-adventure aviation sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, it already seems to be lagging behind in comparison. To say the least, Pitt’s flick might not be able to beat what the 2022 masterpiece achieved, for these three understandable reasons.

Brad Pitt’s F1 lacks heroism, while Tom Cruise’s Top Gun depicts that perfectly Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick | Credits: Paramount Pictures.

Top Gun 3 Will Be So Damn Expensive If Tom Cruise Wants to Bring Back These 3 Stars From Top Gun: Maverick
Image
Reports have confirmed the development of Top Gun 3, with Tom Cruise returning to his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. The previous film, Top Gun: Maverick, turned out to be the highest-grossing film in Cruise’s career. The film featured a bunch of young stars, many of whom went on to build a reputable career since the 2022 film.

A third film in the series would probably be incomplete without these young stars returning to their roles. However, bringing them would make the movie a very expensive affair, given their current star value. Cruise’s salary alone would be a massive cost for the film, as his reported salary for the second film was $100 million (via Variety).

While it took 36 years for the second movie to materialize, the third movie is expected to arrive very soon, offering a fitting conclusion to Cruise’s iconic character.

Brad Pitt’s Mega-Budget Zombie Film Climbs Up Streaming Charts Ahead of ‘F1’ and ‘28 Years Later’
Image
Perhaps among the summer's riskiest films, F1: The Movie will determine whether there's a market for mega-budget, star-driven tent poles that are not based on prior intellectual property. Starring Brad Pitt and directed by Top Gun: Maverick's Joseph Kosinski, the movie cost a reported $300 million to produce, and marks Pitt's biggest project in over a decade. He last headlined a movie this big back in 2013, and it was just as risky then. The movie in question, World War Z, was produced at a time when projects involving zombies were generating huge levels of interest; this was in the aftermath of The Walking Dead. World War Z is now making an impression on the streaming charts, as fans get ready for F1 later this summer.

According to FlixPatrol, the epic action thriller claimed the fourth spot on Paramount+ charts on May 13, earning a total of 120 points for the day.

Cannes 2025 Critic’s Take: Who Will Ride a Wave to Mainstream Success?
Image
When I wrote my inaugural Critic’s Take some seven Cannes ago, it made sense to explore the apparent chasm between the films celebrated at cinema’s high temple — where austere and unsparing fare could feed the zeitgeist — and those that made inroads within the American industry, where hard auteurism had a tougher time cracking the mainstream, Palme d’Or or not.

Suffice it to say, I didn’t have a similar impetus this time around. How could I? Not when Cannes rides high on recent awards glories as festival honcho Thierry Frémaux relishes his kingmaker status; not when so many international distinctions have collapsed; and not when the very nature of a Palme d’Or has so strikingly shifted in the intervening decade.

Indeed, the cascading effects of streaming wars, labor unrest and widespread social shifts have fundamentally altered film culture. Since that first column, the theatrical market has continued to contract,...

Tom Cruise Urges Young Actors to Learn Filmmaking Tech, Which Is ‘Not Taught in Film Schools’: ‘Brando Understood Lighting. All the Greats Did’
Image
Tom Cruise took a moment while receiving a British Film Institute Fellowship (via Times of London) to urge young actors to learn about the craft of filmmaking. The A-list actor bemoaned film schools for failing to teach production tools and filmmaking technology to aspiring actors, as it’s important for all actors to know about lighting, camera blocking and more. For Cruise, being a good film performer extends beyond just the acting craft.

“It is important to understand the tools around you,” Cruise said. “There is tech. It is like understanding the stage as an actor but for a lot of artists it is not taught in film school: how to understand the lens and what it can do, and why there is eye movement and recognize the effect it has.”

“I always tell actors: spend time in the editing room, produce a movie, study old movies, recognize what the composition is giving you,...

Brad Pitt in F1: The Movie (2025)
F1 | Fresh trailer lands for Brad Pitt-headlined blockbuster
Brad Pitt in F1: The Movie (2025)
From the director of Top Gun Maverick comes F1, with Brad Pitt in the lead role. Here’s the new trailer for the film.

Is Joseph Kosinski’s F1 one of the most important films of the summer? There’s certainly a case to be made that the film – which launches next month – is pivotal in determining the future of Apple’s experiment with theatrical releases, which in turn could have a meaningful impact on the theatrical industry as a whole.

With the studio’s previous major cinema releases – Killers Of The Flower Moon, Napoleon, Argylle – not really succeeding in their desired aims as either awards magnets or box office successes, there are some that are speculating that Apple's future box office plans hinge on the success of F1.

The project certainly has pedigree behind it, not to mention a lot of money from Apple Original FIlms.

F1 is directed...

‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ First Reactions Praise Film as an ‘Exhilarating Adrenaline Rush’ With ‘Gold Standard’ Action ‘For the Ages’
Image
“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” has been revealed to members of the press, and first reactions are praising the film as an exhilarating end to the historic action franchise.

Film critic Courtney Howard wrote of the film on X, “[‘Mission: Impossible- The Final Reckoning’] rips! Loved it. An exhilarating adrenaline rush for the head & heart & immersive, awe-inducing stuntacular of the highest order. McQ, [Tom Cruise] & Co have crafted the gold standard – a brilliant, bold actioner for the ages. See it Big & Loud.”

Journalist and BAFTA member Simon Thompson echoed Howard’s glowing review, writing on social media, “[‘Mission: Impossible- The Final Reckoning’] is whip-smart and razor-sharp, this tense eighth entry in one of the most exhilarating franchises of all time is another winner. With sphincter-tightening set pieces, blockbusters do not get much better than this. Cruise & McQuarrie nail it!”

Offscreen Central’s founder and editor-in-chief, Kenzie Vanunu, praised the film with a small caveat.

Tom Cruise Reveals Why It Took Over Three Decades to Make Top Gun Sequel
Image
As Tom Cruise prepares to star in what could be his final Mission: Impossible film, the acclaimed actor reveals why he resisted returning to another big action franchise for decades. Cruise shares why he opted against featuring in a second Top Gun film before finally agreeing to reprise his role in Top Gun: Maverick.

Speaking at a British Film Institute (BFI) event this past weekend (via Deadline), Cruise claimed he was asked by Paramount Pictures on multiple occasions to make a sequel to 1986's Top Gun following its critical and commercial success. Despite his performance in Top Gun further launching his rise to stardom, Cruise wanted opportunities to show his acting range and decided to focus on other projects. "They really wanted me to make Top Gun over and over. But I wanted to develop my talent in different areas, and I wanted more challenges," he said.

Also starring the late Val Kilmer,...

Tom Cruise Hopes to Star in More Musicals: 'My Goals Are Endless'
Image
With the next Mission: Impossible film hitting theaters this month, Tom Cruise is ready for a change of scenery. During a career-spanning conversation at the British Film Institute, the actor shared that he is eager to star in many other kinds of movies in the future, placing a particular emphasis on musicals. "Definitely a musical. Absolutely, musicals," the actor said to Edith Bowman when discussing genres he would like to explore. "You know, dramas, action adventures. It's endless. My goals are endless." In 2022, it was reported that Cruise and Top Gun: Maverick producer Christopher McQuarrie were planning "an original song and dance-style musical" for Cruise, though the film has yet to come to fruition. Though Cruise is often known as an action star in...

“I came across as arrogant”: Tom Cruise Forever Regrets His Biggest Career Mistake That Took Him Years to Rectify
Image
Tom Cruise has done more than just cement his position in Hollywood as one of the most praiseworthy action heroes of all time. He is famed for performing his death-defying stunts alone and for his spectacular acting. But, like pretty much every other celebrity out there, he has some regrets about some of the infamous stunts he pulled off earlier in his career.

While a majority of his career has been filled with commendation and acclaim to the brim, there have also been parts that have turned out to be severe career mistakes, as Cruise has himself admitted. One of these, ostensibly, was the one interview where he really didn’t hesitate to come off as arrogant: His infamous interview with Matt Lauer from almost two decades ago.

Tom Cruise Reflects on 'Eyes Wide Shut' and How Nicole Kidman Was Cast
Image
Hollywood legend Tom Cruise doesn't usually address movies he's not currently promoting. Today, the star of franchises like Top Gun and Mission: Impossible mostly spends his time designing mind-bending stunts and promoting the latest Ethan Hunt adventure. But at the same time, he remains very reserved about his career. Nevertheless, the actor recently took the time to reflect on his polarizing erotic thriller Eyes Wide Shut. Cruise described the "unique experience" of making a film alongside another Hollywood legend, director Stanley Kubrick. In a very unusual moment of honesty, he also spoke about his wife at the moment, Nicole Kidman, being a "great actress" and how she was selected to play Alice, a casting decision that required him to pull some strings.

Per a report by Deadline, Cruise participated in an interview with Sight and Sound magazine, where he spoke about Eyes Wide Shut. The 1999 Stanley Kubrick thriller saw the...
