Whether a feature or a bug, one of the central aspects of the Netflix documentary series “Somebody Feed Phil” is that host Phil Rosenthal is an unabashed outsider. Going to places he doesn’t understand with an open mind and an open palate, it’s a celebration of global cuisine from the point of view of somebody who is experiencing everything for the first time. It’s an approach that works for that show, but it’s strange to see that same humor and surface-level fascination in service of something with far more dramatic weight than a snack from a street vendor.
David Farrier’s new series “Dark Tourist” takes a broad categorization of unconventional global tourist destinations and approaches them with the same voyeuristic tone and format, treating a whole host of global oddities as a set of minor curiosities. The result is a slippery documentary exercise that never...

From Assassin’s Creed to The Witcher, via Mass Effect, Minecraft and maybe more Warcraft...
Latest update: Uncharted delayed.
In the years since Den Of Geek first sprung into existence, we’ve consistently kept an eye on the videogames that have been touted for the big screen treatment. We’ve tried to list them all in a big article a few times before, and it feels like the time has come to pull a new version together.
If we haven’t heard anything about a certain videogame movie in two years or more, it seems safe to assume that it’s quietly been binned. That’s why you won’t find the likes of BioShock, Devil May Cry, Far Cry, Gears Of War, Halo, Heavy Rain and Rollercoaster Tycoon on this list. If we get proven wrong on any of those, we’ll update this article as more information comes to light.

Robots. Ever since the dawn of science-fiction arose from the industrial revolution, it seemed inevitable that technology would play a major role in the future evolution of mankind. Or, perhaps, as some would suggest, skip evolution all together as human beings become extinct and the fruits of our scientific prowess take over as the top of the Earthly food chain. Wherever we fall on that debate, the ultimate question remains… what will the continued advancement of technology look like and how would humanity fit into the long-term picture?

The delights of genre cinema are born from human imagination. The stories are nurtured by individuals who optimistically hope and believe across the years of their lives that a single film will devour that their tales arrive at the intended destination – to discover and touch the sensibilities of the audience.
If films are born out of the imagination then so the same could be said for the festivals that showcase them – festivals such as FrightFest that are crafted according to an ethos shared by four men who genre cinema continues to owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude – “‘Run by fans for the fans”, to find those great new voices in genre and see what difference they can make, and to ensure the FrightFest spirit of community endures.

Melanie Griffith is erasing her romantic past. The actress, 56, split from her husband Antonio Banderas earlier this year, and is now taking steps to distance herself from the soured relationship. After announcing her split from Banderas in June, Griffith is slowly removing a prominent tattoo baring his name. The Dark Tourist star has long sported the heart-shaped ink on her right bicep, reading, "Antonio." In recent weeks, Griffith has been seen out and about with the tattoo slowly fading. On Monday, July 7, the Oscar nominee wore [...]...

On the outside, the English-language debut of French director Marina de Van looks like a traditional supernatural thriller, complete with a requisite “creepy” kid, and mysterious telekinetic powers. On the inside, Dark Touch is a heartrendingly sad, unflinchingly intimate exploration of the trauma of abuse: a horror movie that draws its nightmares from the sordid, squalid corners of real life. While de Van is possibly best known for her 2002 art house self-cannibalism shocker In My Skin, her latest feature proves that her ability to viscerally assault and disturb audiences remains undeterred.

The haunting grace note in director Suri Krishnamma's psychological thriller Dark Tourist, written by Frank John Hughes, comes from Melanie Griffith in an exquisite performance as a waitress grieving a crushing loss—and who has the misfortune of crossing paths with a man slowly unraveling into a psychopath. Jim (Michael Cudlitz, of TV's Southland) is a security guard whose hobby is studying serial killers, and who spends his vacations mapping his way through their killing fields. Tourist follows him as he navigates the small town that gave birth to one such figure. In voiceover he reveals an empathy with his current antihero that is slowly revealed to be rooted in his own childhood traumas. As the film softly nods toward the visuals of David Fincher, H...

Why do we slow down to look at car accidents? Why do we put our hands in the moulded handprints of dead celebrities in Hollywood? Why are we obsessed with the lives of serial killers? There are the questions explored in Suri Krishnamma's chilling thriller Dark Tourist. With an incredible performance by Michael Cudlitz (from the TV show Southland), it is not an easy film to watch, but that is likely the intention. It is incredibly disturbing, not least because it asks the audience to question some of their own dark obsessions.Jim (Cudlitz) is a 'dark tourist', someone who visits homes/places connected with the dead. Though with Jim, is it perhaps a bit more macabre, as he takes his annual holiday from his security...

What's a working girl to do when she hits middle age? That's the question Melanie Griffith has been asking as she makes the publicity rounds on behalf of her new psychological thriller, Dark Tourist. As the daughter of Alfred Hitchcock muse Tippi Hedren and wife of Antonio Banderas, not to mention having earned a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination for her role in 1988's Working Girl, the 56-year-old actress would seem to know Hollywood inside and out. But one thing that has still managed to surprise Griffith is the lack of parts for older women, prompting her to offer a very scathing critique of the industry. "It is what I never thought would happen when I was in my 20s...

In the late '80s and early '90s, Melanie Griffith was a rising 30-something star with an Academy Award nomination and Golden Globe trophy to her name. The future was bright.
But now, at 56, the actress is bemoaning the lack of roles for women her age. After battling a painkiller addiction in 2000 and skin cancer in 2009, Griffith returned to work to find a very different Hollywood than what she was used to.
"It is what I never thought would happen when I was in my 20s and 30s, hearing actresses b*tch about not getting any work when they turned 50. Now I understand it, it is just different," she tells Fox411.
"In a lot of ways, [Hollywood] is a very superficial place. It is all about youth and beauty, for women anyway."
She was lucky to land one good film role: a part in the tormented drama "Dark Tourist," opposite Michael Cudlitz.

The pair chatted before linking up for a picture, with Jonathan rocking a flannel - another nod to the return of the '90s - while Zachery sported a suit. In March, Jtt reunited on screen with another Home Improvement star when he made an appearance on Last Man Standing alongside his TV dad, Tim Allen - aka "Tim the Toolman" Taylor. It was Jonathan's first time on TV in years, as he's now focused on the writing and directing side of the business. He doesn't regret his early acting days, though. Always ensure that any risky situation is tested before putting actors in a potentially dangerous situation. This is the lesson director Suri Krishnamma (New Year.s Day, The Grief Tourist) took away from filming the thriller Bad Karma.
Set primarily on the Gold Coast, Bad Karma follows a reformed criminal played by Ray Liotta who is forced to confront his crime riddled past after it turns up unexpectedly in the form of a gun-toting Dominic Purcell.
Describing the film as a complex love story, Krishnamma said the relationship between the reformed criminal and his new girlfriend (Vanessa Gray) is what makes Bad Karma more than a simple psychological-thriller.
.I would describe it as a love story about a man and a woman where a man's past has returned to haunt him. He has a choice to either return to his old former criminal days or to embrace the new life...

Ever wonder what the kids from Home Improvement are up to these days? Well, when it comes to Zachery Ty Bryan, who played the oldest Taylor kid, Brad, the answer might surprise you. He's producing movies, including the shocking horror flick Rogue River, that hits the shelves this week.
So, how did he transition from a teen heartthrob to a behind-the-scenes dealmaker? About four years ago, he and his long-time friend Adam Targum (a writer/ producer on CSI: New York) decided they wanted to approach the entertainment industry from an entirely different angle. They figured that their diverse blend of skill sets would make them a unique team in the production realm, and set about finding scripts to bring to fruition under the banner of Vision Entertainment Group.
