Turns out, when she auditioned for the 2011 comedy-drama masterpiece The Descendants, the actress was called out about her acting out the scene in a bit too overly exaggerated manner, leading to her nearly getting kicked out of it. In fact, if she hadn’t begged her agents to get a callback for this particular piece, perhaps Woodley may have even ended up losing out on the role!

Back in late September 2024, 20th Century Studios announced that it would be remaking the 1992 thriller classic The Hand That Rocks the Cradle with Longlegs actress Maika Monroe leading the cast. Now, we've just learned of a potential new cast addition. Scream queen Mary Elizabeth Winstead is reportedly in talks to join the remake, starring opposite Monroe.

Conversations are currently being had about Winstead joining the movie, but she has not officially signed on yet. Fingers crossed, an official agreement is reached because we would love to see her and fellow scream queen Maika Monroe act together, especially after knowing who they will be playing in the movie.

HBO announced today that Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler have officially joined the cast of the upcoming DC series Lanterns. Aaron Pierre will play John Stewart and Kyle Chandler has been cast as Hal Jordan.

The anticipated series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

Lanterns is an HBO series in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King will co-write the series based on the DC comic Green Lantern.

James Hawes directs the first two episodes. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, King, and Hawes.

Aaron Pierre currently stars as the lead in Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge, which debuted on Netflix on September 6th and was the #1 title worldwide on the streaming service for three weeks in a row.

Shailene Woodley has joined the cast of the upcoming Broadway play Cult of Love from Leslye Headland, the creator of The Acolyte.

She joins Zachary Quinto and Euphoria star Barbie Ferreira, who have also boarded the play about four adult children from the Dahl family returning to their childhood home with their partners for the Christmas holidays, only to see their harmony interrupted as old and new conflicts arise.

Paramount is updating “An Officer and a Gentleman” with Miles Teller set to star.

Teller will take on the lead role in the modern take on the 1982 classic starring Richard Gere, which was nominated for six Academy Awards, winning the best original song prize for “Up Where We Belong” and marking Louis Gossett Jr.’s historic achievement of becoming the first Black best supporting actor Oscar winner.

“An Officer and a Gentleman” centered on Gere’s Zack Mayo, an aspiring Navy aviator who clashes with his hard-nosed drill instructor, Gunnery Sgt. Emil Foley (Gossett) while navigating a budding romance with Paula (Debra Winger), a factory worker with dreams of getting out of her small town. The Taylor Hackford-directed romantic drama was also a box office smash, earning $190 million globally.

Dana Fox wrote the latest draft of the script for the new movie, following a draft written by Matt Johnson.

He's no stranger to period pieces and previously worked with director Matt Shakman on WandaVision and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Other credits include Chevalier, Ghost in the Shell, Hot Fuzz, and The Spectacular Now. 

The news that he'll serve as The Fantastic Four's Director of Photography comes our way from Hall's website. Shakman and Hall reteaming isn't a surprise, and based on her work in WandaVision, he won't struggle to make this movie look visually distinct.

Exclusive: Billy Rosenberg is exiting his post as Senior Vice President of Comedy, Hulu Originals.

Rosenberg joined Hulu in 2016. Throughout his time at the streamer, he helped to shape the comedy brand and oversaw the development and production of Hulu Originals series such as Pen15, Ramy, Only Murders In The Building, Pam & Tommy, This Fool and Solar Opposites.

Previously, Rosenberg ran The Lonely Island’s company Party Over Here. In his two years there, Rosenberg produced a number of pilot presentations under the company’s deal when it was with Fbc, including I’m Sorry that was ordered to series at TruTV, and the Freeform pilot Alone Together starring Esther Povitsky and Benji Aflalo.

Rosenberg’s tenure at Hulu came with the elevation of the streamer’s comedy brand, as he developed hits including “Pen15,” “Ramy,” “Only Murders In The Building,” “Pam & Tommy,” “This Fool” and “Solar Opposites.”

After directing three “Night at the Museum” movies, Shawn Levy didn’t want to be confined to directing family comedies for the rest of his career. If you’re doing something successfully, he told IndieWire, it’s easy to be “pigeonholed” by Hollywood into that one thing.

Scott Neustadter wasn’t born when the rock ‘n’ roll scene depicted in “Daisy Jones & the Six” was taking place in Los Angeles in the late 1960s through the mid ’70s, and neither were most of the cast and creators of the limited series on Amazon’s Prime Video. But Neustadter and his writing partner Michael H. Weber, who’d written “500 Days of Summer,” “The Spectacular Now” and “The Disaster Artist” before they developed “Daisy Jones,” had to become experts in the era they recreated for the series based on Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel.

Did they get it all right? Of course not. (Read on for some nit-picking from somebody who is old enough to have been there.) But for the most part,...

TV’s Spanish-language Univision network will broadcast Super Bowl Lvii next year, adding a new entrant to the usual coterie of English-language outlets that show the game.

The deal was struck in partnership with the NFL and CBS Sports, which has the rights to show the game in English.

The details were released as part of TelevisaUnivision’s annual “upfront” presentation, when U.S. networks try to sell the bulk of their commercial programming ahead of their next programming cycle.

The company also disclosed that its ViX streaming outlet has more than 30 million monthly active users globally, with Pierluigi Gazzolo, the CEO of ViX noting that ” 80% of consumption on Vix is content no one else has and, importantly, 63% of users on ViX are incremental to the massive audience we serve on linear, which means greater cross-platform reach for all of you.”

The film follows twin brothers who are caught in a violent love triangle on a remote Greek island. A damaged detective, known as “The Jealousy Man,” is called in to investigate.

Pic is based on Jo Nesbø’s short story The Jealousy Man, off a script written by Roberto Bentivegna (House of Gucci), with revisions by Oscar- and BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies; Treason). Makeready’s Brad Weston is producing the film, with Nesbø (bestselling Harry Hole book series), Niclas Salomonsson, Gordon-Levitt, Tom Karnowski and Makeready’s Collin Creighton executive producing. Makeready’s Oscar Montemayor will associate produce.

Cameras roll in May in Crete, with Faliro House serving as the local production entity.

The film is based on Norwegian crime writer Jo Nesbo’s short story The Jealousy Man, with the screen adaptation to follow twin brothers caught in a violent love triangle on a remote Greek island. A damaged local detective with a nose for jealousy is called in to investigate a murder.

Production on Killer Heat is set to start in May in Crete.

“Night of the Kings” filmmaker Philippe Lacôte has signed on to direct the movie, which is based on Jo Nesbø’s 2021 short story “The Jealousy Man.” The film centers on twin brothers (Madden) caught in a violent love triangle on a remote Greek island, and a damaged detective known as “The Jealousy Man” (Gordon-Levitt), who is called in to investigate.

Lacôte will direct from a script penned by Roberto Bentivegna (“House of Gucci”), with revisions by Oscar and BAFTA-nominated screenwriter Matt Charman.

Makeready’s Brad Weston is producing the film, which begins production next month in Crete, with Faliro House serving as the local production entity.

In addition to starring in the film, Gordon-Levitt will also executive produce the project alongside Nesbø, Niclas Salomonsson, Tom Karnowski and Makeready’s Collin Creighton.

Daisy Jones & the Six may be the most-read-about fake band in history. Taylor Jenkins Reid’s 2019 novel about a fictional seventies rock group of the same name has sold well over a million copies and has a bonkers 940,000 ratings on literary social media hub Goodreads — so the pressure to deliver a TV version is a bit higher than with most adaptions.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead has signed on to star opposite Ewan McGregor in the upcoming Showtime & Paramount+ series “A Gentleman in Moscow,” Variety has learned exclusively.

McGregor was first reported to be starring in the show back in August 2022. It is an adaptation of the Amor Towles novel of the same name. Production on the limited series is now underway. It will debut on Showtime in the U.S. and on Paramount+ in additional markets around the world.
