Considering that the previous 9 movies about the 30+ teacher of Bruce Lee included events for three lives at least, a turn towards the past was “necessary” in order for the franchise to continue producing unnecessary sequels. And just like Indiana Jones and Superman before him, the solution was to start focusing on a younger Ip Man, in this case in his years as student, also in an effort to draw in younger audiences. The result is not exactly masterful, but it is better than “Four Kings”.

Young Ip Man is pursuing his studies in Hong Kong in 1917, while there is also a girl, Ya Yun, who seems to like him, even if her aristocratic father is not exactly cordial to him. As the story begins, Ip Man is very happy to see one of his old friends and co-student of Wing Chun, Brother Hu, appear in Hong Kong.

"Some people use it to fight and kill. Some people use it for self-improvement. And as for me, I use it for justice." Magnolia Pictures has debuted an official US trailer for yet another Ip Man movie, this one titled Ip Man: Kung Fu Master. This martial arts extravaganza stars Donnie To as the Ip Man, Bruce Lee's legendary kung fu tutor, his third time playing this role (including The Legend Is Born: Ip Man in 2010 and Kung Fu League in 2018). This film isn't connected to the Donnie Yen series of Ip Man films, most recently with Ip Man 4: The Finale just last year. Set before the Communist Revolution in 1949, during his time as a police captain in Foshan, Ip Man is targeted by a vengeful gangster just as the Japanese army invades the region. The film's cast also features Michael Wong, Wanliruo Xin, and Dongfeng Yue. All the fights look badass,...

Greenlit means a project is officially a go, so all you have to do is follow these leads to stay up to date. You never know where you’ll find an opportunity to land an audition! “Mulan”Under the direction of CD Debra Zane, the 2019 live-action remake of Disney’s “Mulan” has filled its titular role. Chinese actor and singer Liu Yifei, known also as Crystal Liu, will play the bold warrior in the film, which will be directed by Niki Caro. The actor won out over thousands of potential stars, and has been seen in “The Forbidden Kingdom” and “Ip Man 3.” The announcement comes after Lion King’s reboot cast was just announced, and “Dumbo” is the most recent live-action remake to be in production. Now that “Mulan” has its star, it's likely the casting process will continue down the roster of characters with Zane leading the way.

A couple new posters have been released for director Steven S. DeKight's Pacific Rim Uprising. One of the posters offers us our first good look at Scott Eastwood in the film. As you can see, he's all suited up and ready to ride into battle piloting his Jaeger the Gypsy Avenger. He and John Boyega's characters are co-pilots in the story. We got our first poster featuring Boyega's character earlier this week. I've also included another poster for the film that you can check out below. It's more of a stylized piece that comes with the tagline, "Rise Up".
It’s been ten years since The Battle of the Breach and the oceans are still, but restless. Vindicated by the victory at the Breach, the Jaeger program has evolved into the most powerful global defense force in human history. The Ppdc now calls upon the best and brightest to...

Marvel and Netflix have created something truly special with their four superhero shows: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. They've established a unique, ongoing, and shared universe that not only respects each character's source material, but also builds upon and expands their lore. Fans have clearly responded, as many media outlets report that these are some of the most-popular shows on Netflix.
Daredevil is heading into its third season, while Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are each preparing for their second, but what about the fate of Iron Fist? According to SuperBroMovies, Danny Rand himself, actor Finn Jones, will soon issue a Season 2 announcement. Hollywood and China are finally working together to crack down on box office cheats. The Motion Picture Association of America recently hired an accounting firm to audit China’s box office data, the first time the country has allowed the lobbying group to inspect its numbers, Bloomberg reports.

Fraudulent activity in China’s film industry has been suspected for years, but only recently has the country begun cracking down on companies that have cooked the books. Last November, China’s National People’s Congress established new fines for companies that misreport box office sales, ranging from roughly $7,000 to $74,000, Voa News reported. In 2015, the makers of the Chinese film “Monster Hunt” admitted to giving moviegoers 40 million free tickets in order to boost its numbers and beat out Universal Pictures’ “Furious 7” for the distinction of highest-grossing title in mainland China.

Yash Raj Films’ mega blockbuster Sultan won the prestigious Best Action Movie award at the Shanghai International Film Festival. This Salman Khan- Anushka Sharma starrer is the first Indian film to win this award.
Within the Shanghai International Film Festival, the Jackie Chan Action Movie Week focuses on a selection of the best in action, special effects, and performances by action stars from China and the Asia Pacific. Action from the region is emulated globally on film and TV. In 2016, the Best Action Movie award had been given to IP Man 3, a cult Chinese action franchise that is popular worldwide.
Given that a combination of judge assessment and audience vote at the festival decides the winners, Sultan’s wide appeal and impressive action has won over international audiences.

Ip Man 2, from Cine Asia, is a semi-biographical martial arts film loosely based on the life of Wing Chun grandmaster, Ip Man. The film was directed by Wilson Yip and Sammo Hung, produced by Raymond Wong, written by Edmond Wong, and stars martial arts legend, Donnie Yen, who reprises the leading role.
This sequel continues on from events in the first Ip Man film, and covers Ip Man’s life in Hong Kong, which was at the time under British colonial rule, and recovering from the Japanese invasion of China. Ip Man’s main hurdles are his reduced circumstances, British oppression, and rivalry from other martial arts practitioners, including the local Hung Ga master Hung Chun-nam, as played by Sammo Hung.

Herman Yau has come a long way since the exploitation days of The Untold Story and Ebola Syndrome. Recent years have seen him score hits with a pair of ip Man action dramas - The Legend Is Born: Ip Man (2010) and Ip Man; The Final Fight (2013) - and a raft of triad and horror flicks that have kept him very much central to Hong Kong's dwindling movie scene. Between his genre offerings, Yau has turned his attention to more serious subjects, delivering more than one highly acclaimed drama investigating the lives of sex workers in Hong Kong. In a similar vein to Whispers and Moans (2007) and True Women For Sale (2008) comes his new film, Sara, starring Charlene Choi as a journalist who...

Herman Yau directs Anthony Wong in this low-key but enjoyable drama focusing on the twilight years of Ip Man's life. The Legend is Born: Ip Man is a 2010 Hong Kong semi-biographical martial arts film about the early life of Ip Man (also spelled as Yip Man) and his journey to becoming a Wing Chun master whilst resisting the influence of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, aims to dominate China and secure its vast raw resources. Ip is probably most famous in the West as the teacher of legendary martial arts actor Bruce Lee.
The film starts with a montage of images and banners from the early 1900s, of the increasingly nationalistic Chinese resisting pressure from Japan who in 1915 issued the Twenty-One Demands to extort political and commercial privilege from China after the First Sino-Japanese War. This won’t mean much to casual viewers, but even...

It is only a matter of a few days now until the 37th Hong Kong International Film Festival gets underway, with Herman Yau's Ip Man: Final Fight opening proceedings on Sunday 17 March. Starring Anthony Wong as the legendary wing chun practitioner, and Eric Tsang as his foe, the film is unlikely to top the giddy action heights of the recent Donnie Yen/Wilson Yip efforts, but I'm still excited. Yau's last entry in this booming fad of Ip Man movies, The Legend Is Born: Ip Man was actually one of the better efforts, despite its modest budget. Here Wong plays the martial artist in his twilight years, living in Hong Kong as it recovers from the Japanese occupation, who is forced into a final confrontation with...

I am dying to see Wong Kar Wai’s version of Ip Man, but it might be a while before “The Grandmasters” finally shows up on U.S. shores — or an import DVD becomes available … until some U.S. distributor grabs the movie and yanks said import DVDs off the market. Apparently Hong Kong and Chinese audiences can’t get enough of Ip Man, either, because ready or not, here’s another one from director Herman Yau, who previously directed 2010′s “The Legend Is Born: Ip Man”, so this is a sequel to that. “Ip Man: The Final Fight” stars the venerable Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong as the titular, older grandmaster, and you can take a gander at the trailer below. Ip Man, The Final Battle is set in postwar Hong Kong, with the grandmaster trying to live quietly while teaching his art of Wing Chun. But after accepting...

Director Herman Yau reunites with The Untold Story actor Anthony Wong in Ip Man: The Final Fight. The semi-biopic is the follow-up to Yau's The Legend Is Born: Ip Man, and while the first film focused on his early life, the new picture tells the story of his last battle during his elderly years, in the period leading up to his death. To prepare for the role, Wong trained extensively in Wing Chun for a year. This interpretation is one of many to join the Ip Man bandwagon. Among the related projects based on the legendary martial artist is Wong Kar-wai's The Grandmaster, with Tony Leung Chiu-wai in the title role.
