Slow in the beginning but stick with it... with some Kleenex nearby

I have been curious for years about LOUDER THAN WORDS because at least once a year is aired on a TV channel where they mostly air dramatic movies but kinda avoided it because it looked obscure. Well, what a fool I am sometimes! Last June I finally saw it and I liked it even more than I expected.

John Fareri (David Duchovny) and his wife Brenda (Hope Davis) suffered the tragic death of their daughter for an uncurable disease and so John has an idea: to build a children's hospital that is multifunctional and parents can stay for long visits. At first he has trouble in having his project green-lighted but thanks to his lawyer friend Bruce Komiske (Timothy Hutton) the project will open its wings and it's a success.

The acting was great by Duchovny, Hutton, Davis and Xander Berkeley, each giving other great performances in their resumes. The concept too is great and yet it's one of those movies to watch with some Kleenex nearby because the beginning is sad and the ending is kinda whimsical because we hear the dead child's voice like she was in the sky witnessing what happened.

Overall, if you catch it on TV and you are at home with nothing else to do give it a try, tho I wouldn't recommend it to parents who lost their children because it would re-open some wounds. Still, a must-see that is even available on YouTube.

    anti-vaccine review

the movie was good. however, that is not why I am writing. apparently, jenny McCarthy has been writing reviews for this movie. please, there is no connection with vaccines and autism. this is dangerous and puts children's lives at risk.

there is a link between pesticides and autism but not with vaccines. Please disregard the review from Rene. it appears to be little more than anti-science, anti-vaccine propaganda.

the movie itself is a tender tribute to a family who helped shape the way children's hospitals are created. the child and the family should be the focus of this review. not the rantings of some mad women who would have people not have their children immunized against diseases that can cripple or kill.

    beware of internet reviewers

This is mostly to set the record straight about this film. Jenny McCarthy wrote a book with the same title as this film. The book and the film have nothing to do with each other. Jenny McCarthy is someone who unfortunately has the power to promote her own ridiculous beliefs, which have ultimately caused a great deal of harm to children. This movie is about a family that did something that has helped thousands of children. Rene Ruiz either did not see the film, or is so delusional to think the movie was based on the book, and was disappointed there wasn't more about autism (there is nothing remotely related to autism in the film). The film is not the best made one in many respects, but it will trigger a strong emotional response as the dream becomes a reality. Most of the film is devoted to the events leading up to the idea to build a hospital and only the last third to the project itself. While in reality it took about 10 years from when Maria died until the hospital opened, the film makes it seems like no time at all. The persistence and I'm sure many problems that must have been encountered are not really captured by the film, which probably would have been much better focused on what it took to get it done. One final irony reflecting to the ignorant autism vaccine comments, if Maria in real life had been given a rabies vaccine, though there was really no reason she should have been, she would likely be alive today.

    A Story of Family Love

Wow. I am certain the two people who submitted reviews did not even watch the film. If you did in fact watch the film, I cannot for the life of me fathom what prompted your reviews. The story is about love. It is about a family. It is about the untimely, devastating loss of a precious child and beloved sister. A beautiful, intelligent, spirited little girl who was loved by so many. It is the story of healing. It is the parents' compelling desire to fulfill the wish of their daughter "to help all children" by building a world-class children's hospital. The Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. The memory of Maria is kept in a special place, just for her, in my heart.

This isn't bad at all & worth watching. A little slow in some parts & lacks some sort of emotion to keep you fully vested

"They may have lost their glue but they never fell apart." John (Duchovny) and Brenda (Davis) Fareri are the parents in a loving family. They have four kids and careers that make them happy. When their youngest daughter is taken to the hospital the doctor says there is nothing to worry about so the parents hang out waiting to hear what is wrong. When things take a terrible turn and their daughter dies the family is thrown into chaos. John comes up with an idea to build a better children's hospital with better facilities and care then they received. This initially causes more family tension. I will start by saying that this movie isn't as sad and depressing as it sounds. I went in thinking this was going to be like Patch Adams. This is actually more like Extraordinary Measures. While the reason for the father wanting to help is awful this focuses more on what they do to help rather then dwell on the death. The movie isn't bad at all and is worth watching it is also a little slow in some parts and does lack some sort of emotion to keep you fully vested. Overall I movie I do recommend because I love true stories but you need to be in the mood for it. I give this a B.
