I liked, in the opening scene, how we saw Caroline go from out-of-focus to in-focus as she discovered the blood bag. Watching her succumb to the blood was kinda freaky.
For once I wasn't annoyed by Jeremy...at least not in his first scene anyway. I actually liked him asking Stefan about Vervain and their discussion of Damon. Stefan's "Right, well, today we have a nice little distraction courtesy of Slave Driver Elena...hello, Elena!", when Elena arrived, amused me. Elena was running amok with outlawing words (V words, D words, etc). I'm glad we got the payoff at the end of the episode and Elena got her ferris wheel wish.
Tyler actually didn't bother me too much this episode either (amazingly).
Another nicely directed scene was the one with Matt coming to visit Caroline at the hospital, with all those beams of light.
Damon's "Aren't you worried that one day ALL the forest animals are gonna band together and bite back? I mean, surely they talk." line to Stefan was great, and Stefan's line about how he was happy it was a blood bag and not a sorority girl supplying Damon's dinner was also good. Damon was his usual sarcastic self, but I liked how when Stefan asked him if he'd heard from Katherine, Damon changed the subject. Stefan knows just the thing to say to get under his brother's skin.
Bonnie's line about the ring toss game being out of Team Jacob Ts was a nice little Twilight reference.
I didn't like how the dude (who Elena was asking for help at the carnival) came over and directed his, "Whaddaya need, beautiful?" at Bonnie, completely ignoring Elena (even though it was SHE who was asking him the question). Kinda rude of him. I did feel a twinge of sympathy for him later in the episode, after he was compelled, beaten up, fed upon and killed, then buried without anyone ever knowing what happened to him. Poor bastard.
I liked Damon's "Jeremy! So good to see you *alive*!" line, then him demonstrating how quickly he could end Jeremy if he wanted to. "I will shove this ring so far up your ass you'll really have something to choke on." was another great line from Damon. Hopefully now Jeremy will quit acting like he's invincible just because he has a ring. Yes, doofus, they can be REMOVED (just ask your Uncle John).
I loved the fact that Caroline was still Caroline, even as a vampire. Her apologising to the nurse, going over the cover story for the bite on her neck ("My husband likes to get kinky.") and her "I don't know how that works, but it's brilliant." (in reference to compelling the nurse to forget) were all great moments. Caroline was a fast learner when it came to being a new vampire, which I enjoyed.
I also liked Stefan's "Wow, you're lurking." line to Damon and their conversation they had whilst observing the two Lockwoods arm-wrestling. Especially good was Stefan's expression as he realised he wasn't going to win against Mason. Stefan's rattling off what the Lockwoods might be (Ninja Turtles, etc) and Damon telling him he's not funny/had no comedic timing were, in fact, amusing. Despite Damon believing that werewolves aren't real, I think the show has pretty much spelled out what the Lockwood men are. And..."Combat Turtles"?? Really, Damon? One of the best scenes was Caroline confronting Damon and revealing that she remembered every bad thing he did to her when she was human, then proceeding to knock his ass down and shove him away. While I could have lived without her "You suck." line to him, it *was* very Caroline/in keeping with her character, so therefore kind of appropriate.
Candice Accola shined this whole episode. Especially in the scenes where she couldn't help her blood-thirst and fed on the guy, then Damon was about to kill her, and then when Stefan was helping her get cleaned up. The way he spoke to her/calmed her down and told her how to fight the blood-thirst - he was really good with her. I think if Stefan's her teacher, she might actually do okay...at least for a while (so long as Damon doesn't lure her over to the dark side of the human blood drinkers). I'm so glad the show's given Caroline this character development and Candice now has something really solid/some meaty material to work with, but she's still maintaining her overall 'Caroline' essence, thankfully. Both Paul and Candice were excellent in their scene together.
Everything that happened/happens is Damon's fault? Really, Bonnie? I could have sworn at least part of what happened to Caroline was *your* fault (you know, the bit where you kind of overruled Elena when it came to letting Damon give Caroline his blood?). Way to take responsibility for your role in things. But then, that's what you do, blame everything on Damon. This can all be traced back to the fact Bonnie lied about deactivating the vampire compass, which caused Tyler to crash the car, which severely injured Caroline, and then called for vampire blood to heal her. While I'm not entirely opposed to seeing Damon suffer a bit of a roasting (given all the crappy things he did last season and even just in the last episode), Bonnie's got to stop projecting all her issues onto him. Elena has lots of reasons to want him dead also, but you don't see her trying to kill him. I just want to see Bonnie back the hell off a bit.
This episode didn't quite match the premiere, but it was still pretty good and has definitely set in motion interesting things to come. Thankyou, show, for having the balls to make Caroline a vampire. This development should definitely make for some great episodes to come.
