*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Rlj Entertainment. Director: Jack Heller. Writer: Tyler Hisel. Cast: Steve Agee, Nick Damici, Kevin Durand and Heath Freeman. Dark Was the Night is the latest film from rookie director Jack Heller (Enter Nowhere). The film, from the promotional material, appears to be a creature feature. But, Dark Was the Night is centrally a family drama; the creatures lurk around the edges of the central setting, Maiden Woods. Though, they do make a late CGI appearance. Starring horror vet Nick Damici (Late Phases) and Kevin Durand, the film offers three mediocre themes: the male protection of femininity, the Devil as evil and a minor one involving hunting, or the creature(s) being a hunter. All of these themes could have been forgotten for a more important one, involving humanity's encroachment on nature. As it is, Dark Was the Night is a fairly standard horror outing.

Something goes bump in the shadows of the small-town setting of Dark Was the Night, the new horror film from Jack Heller (Enter Nowhere) that stars Kevin Durand and Lukas Haas. With Dark Was the Night now in theaters and on VOD from Image Entertainment, we caught up via Q&A with director Heller, who discussed blending creature-centric scares with psychological tension and much more.
Dark Was the Night seems to offer horror in both physical and internal doses. What elements of Tyler Hisel’s screenplay intrigued you the most when this project first came to your attention?
Jack Heller: The script Tyler crafted laid the foundation of opportunity to explore characters dealing with both external horrors and internal ones. When I came onto the project I was excited to work with Tyler to bring these elements to the surface of the script and ultimately the film we made.

Monster films seem to be having a nice little comeback. We seem to be venturing away from the “Grindhouse” homage films, the torture porn films and the other tropes the genre got stuck in. A film that is on my radar is Dark Was The Night, which was adapted from a screenplay that was on The Blacklist a few years back. We just got word that we shouldn’t have to wait too long to see this flick starring Kevin Durand (The Strain) and Lukas Haas (Lady in White, Inception, Brick). Read below for the official word. We’ve also included a trailer that was posted last year for the film.

Exclusive: Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller’s Caliber Media has quietly phased out the majority of its management business and closed its Wilshire Boulevard office as the company and its principals shift focus almost completely toward production. The transition began late this summer, when Caliber’s clients and small staff got word of the impending changeover, and Sonnier and Heller started making calls to help their managers find new homes. Word started circulating in recent weeks as Caliber reps started landing elsewhere around town.
Now headquartered in its New York City office and postproduction hub, the company established in 2008 will focus primarily on producing and financing features like the upcoming horror-Western Bone Tomahawk, starring Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox and Richard Jenkins. Sonnier and Heller are producers on the project, which recently wrapped production in California.
Sonnier will continue to manage a few clients, including Bone Tomahawk writer-director S. Craig Zahler.

Paul Thomas Anderson is certainly taking his sweet time in getting around to adapting Thomas Pynchon.s Inherent Vice for Warner Bros., but at least he.s keeping anticipation extremely high, rounding up one of the most promising casts of the year. And he.s not even done yet. Trading marquee names for up-and-coming performers, Anderson has signed Katherine Waterson for one of the leading female roles, reports Deadline. This will definitely be a break-out role for Waterson . daughter of actor Sam Waterson - who has appeared in a number of popular films like Michael Clayton and Taking Woodstock, but only in small parts. She was one of the leads in last year.s thriller Enter Nowhere, and she.ll appear in a line of films coming out in the next year. After Inherent Vice, we can probably expect to see a lot more of her. In the film, she...

Director: Jack Heller. Writer: Shawn Christensen and Jason Dolan. Cast: Sara Paxton, Scott Eastwood, Shaun Sipos, and Katherine Waterston. Reviewing a mystery requires delicacy. To reveal too much ruins the story for viewers unfamiliar with the film. So, this review for Enter Nowhere will dance about the major plot points while discussing the quality of Jack Heller's first feature. Enter Nowhere is a film that deals with time travel and freedom of choice. We all create our futures, this small film would tell us. This is most apparent when characters alter their behaviours to create for a better tomorrow. The final scene wraps the film up too neatly, but Enter Nowhere is an enjoyable time spent with a Twilight Zone-esque storyline. Both television series for "The Twilight Zone" (1959, 1985) dealt with unbelievable sci-fi circumstances and strange places. In "The Time Element" (1958) one character could travel back and forward in time.

Which identity is the real you? For Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku, this concept is all too familiar. Dushku joins fellow Buffy veteran Michelle Trachtenberg on the cast of the big screen adaptation of the comic book, The Scribbler, published by Image Comics and written by Daniel Schaffer.
Deadline reports that Katie Cassidy (Supernatural, Taken) , picture center above, has signed on to topline in the film about “Suki, a young woman confronting her destructive mental illness using “The Siamese Burn,” an experimental machine designed to eliminate multiple personalities. For a surprising length of time, it almost seems as if Enter Nowhere is going to work. It wreaks of limited resources (the bulk of the film takes place inside a single wooden shed), and anchoring the story with only three leads is a risk that pays off with mixed results, but the film gains a little more mileage than it otherwise might with a few nicely done reveals. That the ultimate payoff doesn’t match them for gravitas keeps Nowhere firmly in mediocre territory, but it could have been a lot worse.

I’ve been following Jack Heller’s “Enter Nowhere” since it was announced back in 2010. There’s a reason for that: I love this type of movie. You know, get a group of people in an isolated locale and watch the shenanigans ensue. (“Evil Dead”, “The Cabin in the Woods”, etc.) Haven’t heard much from the film since the news that Lionsgate had acquired it back in 2011. Turns out, Lionsgate will be sending the film straight to DVD and VOD on April 3rd, 2012. They’re not even going to bother with a Blu-ray release, apparently. In a press release, we’re told that the DVD will include a behind-the-scenes featurette. Yay? In any case, a trailer for the film exists, and you can take a gander at it below. The Man From Nowhere is the latest South Korean thrillers to get a remake. Deadline reports that Dimension Films has acquired remake rights from Cj Entertainment. Shawn Christensen has been hired after Harvey Weinstein read his spec script for Abduction.
Lee Jeong-beom directed the original film, which follows "a quiet pawnshop keeper with a violent past who takes on a drug- and organ-trafficking ring to save the child who is his only friend." It opened at No. 1 at the Korean box office in August 2010 and held the top spot for five weeks in a row, becoming that year’s highest-grossing Korean film.
Christensen co-wrote Enter Nowhere with Jason Dolan, which is being released by Lionsgate. He also penned the Black List spec for Karma Coalition, which sold to Warner Bros.

Grindstone Entertainment and Lionsgate have acquired North American distribution rights to director Jack Heller’s horror flick “Enter Nowhere”, which will be making its premiere next month at ScreamFest in Los Angeles. The film stars “Shark Night’s” Sara Paxton, along with Scott Eastwood, Shaun Sipos, and Kathryn Waterston, and “tells of four strangers who find themselves stranded in a mysterious forest. The strangers seek shelter in an abandoned cabin and must learn to trust one another and work together to find a way out of the woods.” Here’s hoping it’s not all in their minds or that they’re actually trapped in purgatory or something stupid like that. Heller, who is making his feature film directorial debut on “Enter Nowhere”, directed the film from a script by Shawn Christensen and Jason Dolan...

Deets after the jump. And no more singing -- promise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Grindstone Entertainment and Lionsgate have acquired North American distribution rights to Enter Nowhere, the thriller directed by Jack Heller,...

Scott Eastwood, the youngest son of actor/director Clint Eastwood, has joined the cast of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, Deadline reports. The film will be directed by John Luessenhop (Takers) and is set to take place after Tobe Hooper's original 1974 horror classic. The script was penned by Adam Marcus and Debra Sullivan, and polished by Kirsten Elms and Luessenhop.
Massacre 3D is being produced by Carl Mazzocone and exec produced by Avi Lerner and Mark Burg. The goal is for the film to help launch a new fright franchise featuring the iconic, chainsaw-loving villain Leatherface and his oddball family. Filming begins this week in Shreveport, Louisiana, to meet it's Oct. 5, 2012 scheduled release date.
Eastwood recently completed the Charles Burmeister-directed Epic, the Jack Heller-directed Enter Nowhere and the Lawrence Roeck-directed Carmel. He has also starring roles in films directed by his father, including Invictus, Gran Torino and Flags of Our Fathers.

If you were Leatherface, would you mess with Clint Eastwood's kid?
Yeah, you probably would. And that's exactly what's going to happen as Scott Eastwood is set to face the saw in the new 3D adventures of everyone's favorite Texas family, according to Deadline.
Eastwood joins "Percy Jackson" star Alexandra Daddario in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D," a rebooted slaughter of sorts that takes place shortly after the events of director Tobe Hooper's original 1974 nightmare. The film will be directed by John Luessenhop ("Takers") and begins production this week in Louisiana.
No word yet on who will be playing the new Leatherface, though we expect it will probably be a rather large fella.
Scott Eastwood has appeared in a handful of his dad's films, including "Flags of Our Fathers," "Invictus" and "Gran Torino." He's recently wrapped on a couple of indies, including the military drama "Epic" and the horror film "Enter Nowhere,...

Does the world really need more 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' remakes? In 3D?
Maybe if they star Scott Eastwood, who happens to be the really, really ridiculously good looking son of Clint Eastwood.
The younger Eastwood has previously acted in some of his dad's films, including 'Invictus', 'Gran Torino' and 'Flags of Our Fathers,' as well as the indies 'Epic,' 'Enter Nowhere' and 'Carmel.'
Now Scott (formerly billed as Scott Reeves) is taking the lead in the Lionsgate horror reboot that's planned as a trilogy. Production on the umpteenth chainsaw massacre will begin this week in Louisiana.
The 25-year-old is not the first Eastwood offspring to go on camera: Read more about the acting clan after the jump.

Back in May Bloody-Disgusting was invited to the first-ever screening of director Jack Heller's independently-produced mystery/thriller Enter Nowhere, about three strangers who find themselves stranded at a remote cabin in the middle of the woods and must learn who or what has brought them together and for what purpose. The film, which is akin to mind-bending genre fare like Lost and The Twilight Zone, was penned by writing team Shawn Christensen and Jason Dolan and stars Scott Eastwood (Clint's son!), Katherine Waterston and Sara Paxton (The Last House on the Left). Though the film is currently still in search of distribution at this time, I recently chatted with Heller already a successful Hollywood producer and manager who made his directorial debut with the project to pick his brain on how the production came together...

Taylor Lautner is at the center of Abduction. The trailer for the Lionsgate release directed by Academy Award-nominee John Singleton (Boyz N the Hood) and written by Shawn Christensen (the upcoming Enter Nowhere) is now out. Featuring Lily Collins, Jason Isaacs, Maria Bello, Sigourney Weaver, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's Michael Nyqvist, Alfred Molina, and William Peltz, Abduction follows Nathan Harper (Taylor Lautner), a young man whose life is turned dangerously upside down after he finds his baby photo on a missing-persons website. Does it look like Lautner will be able to break away from his The Twilight Saga persona? Well, Lautner's face, body, and voice remain the same, but his Abduction character doesn't seem to have that much in common with Twilight's werewolf Jacob Black. Also, the Abduction trailer offers fights, explosions, and what looks like a passionate kissing scene. But come to think of it, didn't...
