FAQ

Avatar: The Way of Water

FAQ

After Avatar (2009), James Cameron began production for not only one sequel, but for three more. He also pushed VFX technology to the limit for the underwater scenes and put the actors through immense swimming and breathing trainings like professional scuba divers. All these efforts took a decade for the Avatar sequels.

Also, James has always been known to not rush a movie just to make a buck, and lastly, this movie was shot in a period of years. It just took a long time to put the CGI together.

He was transferred from his human body to a Na'vi permanently at the end of the first Avatar (2009) film. And in the official comic called Avatar: The Next Shadow, Jake buried his human body, so his human body is dead.

Because a trip to or from Pandora takes 6 years. So 6 years for them to return to earth, then however long was needed to organise a return trip with a fleet, military and supplies. Then another 6 years back.
