The A-team Director Joe Carnahan Reflects On His Unmade Daredevil Movie Set In 1970s Hell's Kitchen
Image
The Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck was released in 2003, with Elektra following two years later. Neither of them was a critical or commercial success, and 20th Century Fox shelved the Man Without Fear.

However, in 2012, Fox realised that the rights to Daredevil were about to revert to Marvel Studios, as there was only so long they could keep the character without putting him on the big screen. Kevin Feige offered to let them keep Matt Murdock in exchange for Galactus and the Silver Surfer, but Fox refused and attempted to get a movie from The A-Team and The Grey director Joe Carnahan into development.

There wasn't enough time, meaning Daredevil returned home and eventually found himself in the hands of Marvel Television and Netflix.

Talking to Cbr, Carnahan reflected on not getting to make his version of Daredevil that, according to previous comments from the filmmaker, would have been set...

Based on Adam Cesare’s 2020 novel and helmed by “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil” director Eli Craig, the film takes place in a quiet midwestern town as a grinning clown rises up from the cornfields and begins claiming victims.

As for big budget films, Kerry Washington, Oscar-winning actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Omar Sy star in the action thriller “Shadow Force,” releasing from Lionsgate Films and directed by Joe Carnahan (“The Grey”). The story follows a couple on the run with their...

'The Rip': Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Sport Grizzled Looks in Netflix Crime Thriller
Image
Earlier this year, we got our first look at Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in the upcoming Netflix thriller The Rip, and now we have another look at the grizzled appearance of the two buddies who star in the crime film that examines the things people do for money. This marks Damon and Affleck's first time on screen together since 2023's Air, though the duo have collaborated on numerous projects since then, including The Accountant 2, which Affleck starred in and Damon executive produced.

The new images from The Rip (seen below) come courtesy of the trailer for Netflix's 2025 Tudum celebration that takes place on May 31, and show the bearded actors decked out in bullet-proof vests, with Affleck wielding a firearm. Written and directed by Joe Carnahan, The Rip focuses on a group of Miami cops who discover a stash of millions in cash, leading to distrust as outsiders learn about the huge seizure,...

The Naked Gun Trailer: Liam Neeson Has A Very Particular Set Of Skills (And A Skirt) In Comedy Reboot
Image
Liam Neeson is an actor with a very particular set of skills. In the last decade and a half, that has primarily been looking gruff, talking smack, and kicking ass in a slew of geriaction films, from the Taken franchise to The Grey to The Commuter and, most recently, In The Land Of Saints And Sinners. But in The Lonely Island alum Akiva Schaffer's long-gestating, finally-nearly-here reboot of The Naked Gun, Neeson is set to show off a new skill only previously hinted at in guest spots on the likes of Life’s Too Short and Derry Girls — comedy. And if the first trailer for the movie is anything to go by, then the only thing Neeson's Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. is going to be killing here is us... because we might just die laughing. Check it out below;

Okay, hands up: who had 'Liam Neeson shivving baddies with...

The Naked Gun Official Trailer Is The Single Most Important Trailer Of The Year (And Maybe All-Time)
Image
To kickstart their very Mission: Impossible focused CinemaCon presentation, Paramount first debuted the official trailer for their upcoming action-comedy The Naked Gun, a movie they are cheekily describing as "The single most important Naked Gun movie since the other Naked Gun movies."

It's a short teaser, featuring leading man Liam Neeson, as he intervenes during a bank heist, but you're going to have to just watch it to believe it. We also learn that he's playing Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen's Lt. Frank Drebin, who the film will honor and it seems like they'll do it in typical Naked Gun fashion.

The film will provide some much-needed humor to an action-packed summer, opening in the wake of Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps and opposite the animated sequel The Bad Guys 2 and the body horror film Together. It's likely Fantastic Four will repeat as the box office champ,...

Frank Grillo’s Espionage Thriller With a ‘Dark Knight’ Star Finds Surprise Success on a New Streamer
Image
Not long after one of Frank Grillo’s more recent movies climbed to the top of streaming charts, he has another movie following the same model. Grillo stars alongside Michael Jai White (The Dark Knight) in Mr-9: Do or Die, the 2023 espionage thriller following an elite Bangladesh spy who teams up with a CIA operative to bring down an international crime syndicate. Mr-9: Do or Die began streaming on Starz not long ago, and the film has wasted no time becoming one of the more popular movies on the platform, sitting at #9 at the time of writing. Mr-9: Do or Die received an extremely limited theatrical release two years ago, grossing less than $500,000 globally, and the film earned a 61% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Grillo has been acting for more than 30 years now, but his first major role came from starring alongside Liam Neeson in The Grey, the 2011 survival thriller from Joe Carnahan.

How Liam Neeson Saved 'A Walk Among the Tombstones'
Image
As much as actor Harrison Ford has cemented his career playing fantastical protagonists — Indiana Jones, Han Solo, Dr. Richard Kimble (to a lesser extent) — the man is no stranger to stepping into the shoes of darker and grittier characters. There is 1986’s The Mosquito Coast and 2000’s What Lies Beneath, which both have him play someone evolving into a twisted and evil person by the movie’s end. More prominently though, 1982’s Blade Runner saw him play a cold and detached police officer who kills androids because of an ignorant social bias. If Ford has already proven that he could play anywhere on the character trait chart, why did he surprisingly bow out of playing private detective Scudder in 2014’s A Walk Among the Tombstones?

In an interview with Daniel Robert Epstein (writing for The Suicide Girls), Scott Frank (the director of the aforementioned movie) says that the Star Wars actor “chickened out.

Liam Neeson's 'The Marksman' Is Surprisingly Accurate in One Specific Way
Image
While Liam Neeson remains a compelling big-screen presence, Neeson’s action-hero persona has become increasingly derivative over the past decade. The standard Neeson action vehicle has Neeson playing a reluctant avenger or hero who employs a specific set of skills to neutralize his enemies and protect the people whom he cares about. Neeson has now acted within this formula for approximately 15 years, ever since the box-office success of the first Taken film changed the trajectory of Neeson’s career.

This formula is embodied most clearly in the 2021 action film The Marksman, in which Neeson plays a widowed Arizona rancher and former United States Marine Corps sniper who agrees to help a young boy escape a Mexican drug cartel. While The Marksman is mediocre and predictable in virtually every respect, the film is most distinguished in terms of how clearly Neeson’s character’s military sniper training is visible in Neeson’s performance,...

Released on Netflix in 2022, The Gray Man is an action thriller directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. It stars Ryan Gosling as Sierra Six, an assassin in the CIA's elite black ops Sierra program. Unlike other programs in various agencies of the United States, Six’s position in the Sierra program exists in the gray, hence the title of the film. He might work as an operative in the U.S., but if he makes one wrong move, he’s on his own. Recruited by a senior CIA official named Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton) while serving a lifetime prison sentence for killing his abusive father when he was a minor, Six is by far the best...

Liam Neeson’s Thriller Delivered "Mounting Dread" According to Roger Ebert

Quick LinksLiam Neeson's Pulse-Pounding Survival Thriller Hit'The Grey' Left a Powerful Impression on Famed Critic Roger Ebert

Liam Neeson once again proved he's one of the entertainment industry's most compelling leading men when he starred in the 2012 anxiety-inducing survival thriller The Grey, which sees the Taken actor as a highly-skilled sharpshooter who is tasked with protecting a crew of oil men at an Alaskan oil facility from the ever-present risk of a wolf attack. When their plane crashes in the icy and brutal wilderness on their flight home, the expert marksman rallies the team of survivors to venture into the rugged terrain in search of safety, only to find themselves stalked by a ravenous pack of grey wolves.

Both a celebrated critical and commercial feat, The Grey was a knockout upon its January 27, 2012 release and was yet another career high for Neeson, who by then had emerged as one of...

Liam Neeson's 'Taken' and 'Taken 3' Headed to Hulu on February 1
Image
In 2008, Liam Neeson's career changed forever with the release of the now-beloved action thriller Taken. The actor became widely known as the man with a particular set of skills, one that helps him rescue his daughter in a foreign country after she is kidnapped. The film spawned a full-fledged franchise with two sequels, but they failed to recapture the magic of the first. Nevertheless, that hasn't stopped Taken fans from enjoying them all the same. And they will be able to do so on Hulu, when Taken and Taken 3 become available on the streaming platform starting February 1.

Currently available on Max before it arrives on Hulu, Taken was the film that started the pop culture phenomenon and made Neeson's ex-CIA agent a household name. The story follows Brian Mills as he travels to Europe in search of his missing daughter, Kim, played by Maggie Grace, who was kidnapped by human traffickers.

Liam Neeson's Airplane Action Movie From Carry-On Director Becomes Global Netflix Hit

Liam Neeson's airplane action thriller from the director of Carry-On has become a global Netflix hit. Though the Irish actor rose to prominence for his performance in Steven Spielberg's acclaimed Holocaust drama Schindler's List, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, Neeson redefined himself as an action star with the Taken movies. Some of his other action movies include The A-Team, The Grey, Wrath of the Titans, A Walk Among the Tombstones, and Cold Pursuit.

Within the action genre, Neeson has collaborated with director Jaume Collet-Serra numerous times. To date, Neeson has starred in four films from the director – Unknown, Non-Stop, Run All Night, and The Commuter – all of which are action thrillers that received mixed reviews from critics, but were mostly box-office successes. Quick Links What is The Edge About? The Edge Is a Different Adventure For David Mamet Alec Baldwin Brings a Career Best Performance

It's always impressive when a movie manages to elicit genuine emotional distress from audiences, but it's even more impressive when they manage to accomplish this on a small scale. Most of the greatest thrillers of all time, from Seven and Children of Men all the way to Chinatown and North By Northwest are absolutely massive in scale and feature intense and meticulous world building across cities, states, and countries. While these films are huge in scale, they sit on the thriller genre Mount Rushmore because they manage to make massive worlds feel small, claustrophobic and isolated through ingenious tension creation. At the opposite end of the spectrum, there are small-scale films like Coherence and Green Room that manage to feel huge and sprawling despite their mostly singular setting.

Liam Neeson's $71M Action Movie Surges On Netflix's Top 10 US Charts 9 Years Later
Image
Liam Neeson may not have started out as an action star, but he is certainly considered one now. Though Neeson's '90s and early 2000s career did have a handful of action movies, including Rob Roy (1995), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), and Batman Begins (2005), he was just as well known for non-action roles in projects like Schindler's List (1993) and Love Actually (2003). Neeson's career shifted, however, after the release of Taken in 2009.

Taken spawned two less successful sequels, but it also set Neeson down a unique action path. Neeson became the starring figure in a number of mid-budget action movies, with the films usually built around his casting. Notable entries in Neeson's action career include movies like Unknown (2011), The Grey (2011), Non-Stop (2014), A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014), Cold Pursuit (2019), The Ice Road (2021), and In the Land of Saints and Sinners (2023). Many Neeson action movies come and go with little fanfare, and such was the case for one 2015 film.

James Gunn is once again uniting a team of super-powered misfits in the new animated DC series, “Creature Commandos.” The “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “The Suicide Squad” filmmaker — and co-head of the new DC Universe — unites a cast full of familiar faces, including some you’ll recognize from “The Suicide Squad,” as a roster of less familiar superheroes, including Rick Flagg Sr., GI Robot and The Bride.

Check out a handy guide to the “Creature Commandos” cast and the DC characters to whom they’re lending their voices.

Amanda Waller is the imposing leader of A.R.G.U.S. (Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans) and basically the closest thing the DC Universe has to its own Nick Fury. After the events of “The Suicide Squad,” Waller has been hemmed in; she can no longer use humans in her go-for-broke, off-the-books suicide missions. But don’t worry,...

Guy Ritchie at an event for RocknRolla (2008)
In The Grey | Guy Ritchie’s next film loses January release slot
Guy Ritchie at an event for RocknRolla (2008)
Lionsgate has removed Guy Ritchie thriller In The Grey from its scheduled late January 2025 release slot and has yet to give the film a new date.

British director Guy Ritchie was set to release two films in 2025, but things are less certain now given that the first of those two releases, In The Grey, has been removed from its January release slot by Lionsgate.

Ritchie wrote and directed the thriller, while the cast features Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza Gonzalez, Carlos Bardem, Fisher Stevens, Jason Wong, and Rosamund Pike. Two extraction specialists (played by Cavill and Gyllenhaal) must designate a route of escape for a senior female negotiator (Gonzalez). It was shot in the Canary Islands last year.

The stated reason for the film’s delay (per Deadline) is a simple one: it isn’t finished. Ritchie has been exceedingly prolific in the last couple of years, delivering two films...

Liam Neesons Highest-Rated Movies Confirm He Is Making The Right Decision About His Action Career Future
Image
Liam Neeson is making some major decisions related to his action movie career. Neeson has starred in several popular action movies, such as The Grey, The Commuter, The Marksman, and of course, the Taken movies. However, the actor recently admitted that he is planning to retire from action movies. Neeson acknowledged that he is 72 years old now, and doesn't want to film an action movie if he can't even do most of his stunts. Therefore, Neeson predicted he would retire from action films by the end of 2025.

While Neeson's name has become quite synonymous with the action genre in recent years, he actually did not get his start in action films. It was 2008's Taken that led Neeson further and further into the action genre. Taken grossed $226 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of just $25 million, so it only made sense for Neeson to star in more action movies.

“It has to stop at some stage”: Liam Neeson Signals the End of an Era as Taken Star Reveals Retirement Plans From Action Movies
Image
While he has perfectly proven his charms in other genres like 1993’s war-drama Schindler’s List, 1999’s family-sci-fi Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and 2003’s rom-com Love Actually as well, Liam Neeson’s performance in the action genre still dominates all. To say the least, action films are the one thing he is better known for than most.

Liam Neeson. | Credits: Retribution/Lionsgate.

Over the years, he has had, perhaps, more action dramas than all the other genre films combined in his resume. And yet, with each passing day, the 72-year-old actor isn’t getting any younger. Even Neeson isn’t denying that he’s tired and running out of gas. That said, the action legend didn’t hesitate to signal the end of an era while sharing his retirement plans from action pieces.

Liam Neeson Eyes Retirement From Action Movies at the End of 2025: ‘I’m 72 — It Has to Stop at Some Stage. You Can’t Fool Audiences’
Image
Liam Neeson’s beloved run as an action movie star may be coming to an end next year. The Oscar nominee spoke to People magazine and teased his retirement from the genre that reignited the back half of his acting career. Neeson’s role in 2008’s “Taken” transformed him into an action icon, and he’s never stopped kicking butt on screen in the 16 years since. Even well into his 70s, Neeson continues to perform his own fight scenes with some help from longtime stunt collaborator Mark Vanselow.

“I’m 72 — it has to stop at some stage,” Neeson told the publication. “You can’t fool audiences. I don’t want Mark to be fighting my fight scenes for me.”

While Neeson has not yet set a specific date for his last action movie role, he did say that it will likely be in 2025, adding: “Maybe the end of next year.

Liam Neeson teases retirement from action movies
Image
Liam Neeson has to be one of the busiest guys in the business. Next week sees the release of his crime drama, Absolution, in which he plays an aging mobster looking to make amends with his family before his time is up. Next summer, he’s got his remake of The Naked Gun coming out – which should (hopefully) allow him to branch out into comedy. But he’s also got a whole bunch of other action flicks set for release in 2025, including The Ice Road 2, Cold Storage, Hotel Tehran, and even more in the works. However, given that he recently turned seventy-two, Neeson is giving serious thought to slowing down, with him recently saying in an interview that he’s calling it quits pretty soon, stating, “Maybe the end of next year. I think that’s it.”

Now, it has to be said that this isn’t the first time Neeson has toyed with retirement.

One of the world's biggest movie stars "in talks" to rejoin the MCU (in a new role)
Image
There is no shortage of star power in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The franchise just goes from strength to strength in so many aspects of its existence, and perhaps its greatest example of that is Marvel Studios' ability to cast the right actors in the right roles. And it's been a who's who of legends when it comes to filling out the MCU.

With the Multiverse Saga now exploring new possibilities in the franchise, some classic Marvel movie stars are making their presence felt in the MCU. It's monumental, and what's even more monumental than that is that the Harrison Ford has joined the fray, appearing in Captain America: Brave New World as President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross.

It also sounds like another major movie star is set to join - or, well rejoin - the franchise in a big role.

Henry Cavill rumored to be in talks for a...

How ‘Outer Banks’ Star Madison Bailey Finally Found Her Voice

Growing up, her true passion was creating and writing music. She also has her movie, Time Cut, dropping on Oct. 30.

Now, five years after Outer Banks first premiered, Bailey is returning to her first love, sharing her voice with the world. She released her first single, “The Grey,” last month, a song she describes as being about “your true self and living life as free and without the world’s limitations as possible.”

THR reports that the Man of Steel and The Witcher star has signed on to play a lead role in Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action Voltron movie.

Liam Neeson in Taken (2008)
Top 10 Liam Neeson Movie Performances
Liam Neeson in Taken (2008)
Before the sharp sentiments of “Schindler’s List,” the adventurous appeal of the “Star Wars” prequels, and the edge-of-the-seat thrill of “Taken,” Northern Irish actor Liam Neeson began his acting journey in theatre in Belfast. He moved to cinema in the 1970s with his debut performance in Ken Anderson’s “Pilgrim’s Progress.” Rapidly developing his filmography, Neeson left behind the innocent charm of his debut for more complex dramatic roles in films like “The Mission” and arguably his most well-known work, “Schindler’s List.” The latter earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor while solidifying his status as an A-list actor in Hollywood.

In his later career, Neeson moved away from the dialogue-driven dramas and towards the action thriller genre. His role as an ex-CIA father in “Taken” was the first of many action heroes the actor would go on to play. Though much of this period became tiring for his fans,...
