However, in 2012, Fox realised that the rights to Daredevil were about to revert to Marvel Studios, as there was only so long they could keep the character without putting him on the big screen. Kevin Feige offered to let them keep Matt Murdock in exchange for Galactus and the Silver Surfer, but Fox refused and attempted to get a movie from The A-Team and The Grey director Joe Carnahan into development.

There wasn't enough time, meaning Daredevil returned home and eventually found himself in the hands of Marvel Television and Netflix.

Not long after one of Frank Grillo’s more recent movies climbed to the top of streaming charts, he has another movie following the same model. Grillo stars alongside Michael Jai White (The Dark Knight) in Mr-9: Do or Die, the 2023 espionage thriller following an elite Bangladesh spy who teams up with a CIA operative to bring down an international crime syndicate. Mr-9: Do or Die began streaming on Starz not long ago, and the film has wasted no time becoming one of the more popular movies on the platform, sitting at #9 at the time of writing. Mr-9: Do or Die received an extremely limited theatrical release two years ago, grossing less than $500,000 globally, and the film earned a 61% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Grillo has been acting for more than 30 years now, but his first major role came from starring alongside Liam Neeson in The Grey, the 2011 survival thriller from Joe Carnahan.

Joe Carnahan, who has brought us films like Narc, Smokin’ Aces, The Grey, The A-Team and the upcoming Rip, directs a new action film that he penned with Leon Chills called Shadow Force. The movie brings us a couple with a particular set of skills and is played by Kerry Washington and Omar Sy. The cast also includes Mark Strong, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Cliff “Method Man” Smith. The trailer just dropped from Lionsgate.

The official synopsis reads,

“In Shadow Force, Kyrah (Washington) and Isaac (Sy) were once the leaders of a multinational special forces group called Shadow Force. As much as actor Harrison Ford has cemented his career playing fantastical protagonists — Indiana Jones, Han Solo, Dr. Richard Kimble (to a lesser extent) — the man is no stranger to stepping into the shoes of darker and grittier characters. There is 1986’s The Mosquito Coast and 2000’s What Lies Beneath, which both have him play someone evolving into a twisted and evil person by the movie’s end. More prominently though, 1982’s Blade Runner saw him play a cold and detached police officer who kills androids because of an ignorant social bias. If Ford has already proven that he could play anywhere on the character trait chart, why did he surprisingly bow out of playing private detective Scudder in 2014’s A Walk Among the Tombstones?

The sequel follows “The Black Demon” which starred Josh Lucas and was released in theaters in 2023, followed by a launch on Amazon Prime Video where it topped streaming rankings for seven consecutive days.

Ben Hernandez Bray (“The Lincoln Lawyer”), a leading action stunt coordinator who’s worked on David O. Exclusive: Joe Carnahan, who is behind Netflix’s upcoming film Rip starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, is launching his own production company.

Carnahan has teamed with Chris Wagner, founder and CEO of White Label Productions, to launch Gang of Three.

Based in LA, the business hopes to be a full film and television production company from concept to delivery. There is also an undisclosed third partner.

The company has a number of projects in the works including foodie-assassin thriller The Connoisseurs, murder-for-hire action flick Viv & Vic, haunted family horror film Felix, and a biopic based on the famous two-fight legacy between Joe Louis and his German nemesis, Max Schmeling.

Even though Contagion was released way back in 2011, the events chronicled in the tense medical thriller are reminiscent of the 2020 pandemic. Contagion starring Matt Damon and Jude Law will hit Paramount+ on Dec. 1.

Contagion, directed by Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh (Traffic) and written by Scott Z. Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum), centers around a viral outbreak caused by a zoonotic disease and focuses on the spread from “patient zero” to the creation of a vaccine.

It also stars Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Laurence Fishburne. When it was released, Contagion earned more than $136 million worldwide against a budget of $60 million, according to Box Office Mojo. The film boasts a “Certified Fresh” 85% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.8/10 rating on IMDb.

Lionsgate has removed Guy Ritchie thriller In The Grey from its scheduled late January 2025 release slot and has yet to give the film a new date.

British director Guy Ritchie was set to release two films in 2025, but things are less certain now given that the first of those two releases, In The Grey, has been removed from its January release slot by Lionsgate.

Ritchie wrote and directed the thriller, while the cast features Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza Gonzalez, Carlos Bardem, Fisher Stevens, Jason Wong, and Rosamund Pike. Two extraction specialists (played by Cavill and Gyllenhaal) must designate a route of escape for a senior female negotiator (Gonzalez). It was shot in the Canary Islands last year.

Liam Neeson is making some major decisions related to his action movie career. Neeson has starred in several popular action movies, such as The Grey, The Commuter, The Marksman, and of course, the Taken movies. However, the actor recently admitted that he is planning to retire from action movies. Neeson acknowledged that he is 72 years old now, and doesn't want to film an action movie if he can't even do most of his stunts. Therefore, Neeson predicted he would retire from action films by the end of 2025.

While Neeson's name has become quite synonymous with the action genre in recent years, he actually did not get his start in action films. It was 2008's Taken that led Neeson further and further into the action genre. Taken grossed $226 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of just $25 million, so it only made sense for Neeson to star in more action movies.

Best known for playing the character Chris Alonso on 106 episodes of the CBS TV series S.W.A.T., Lina Esco has now become the latest actor to sign on for a role in Rip, a crime thriller that’s written and directed by Joe Carnahan and is set up at the Netflix streaming service. John Wick: Chapter 4 star Scott Adkins is set to join Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in their upcoming Netflix crime thriller.

Per Deadline, Adkins has joined the cast for Rip, a crime thriller starring Damon and Affleck. Adkins will reportedly play the brother of Affleck's character in the film. In addition to Adkins, Affleck, and Damon, Rip also stars Sasha Calle, Teyana Taylor, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Nestor Carbonell. The film is written and directed by Joe Carnahan, best known for films such as Smokin' Aces, The A-Team, and The Grey. Adkins was most recently seen in The Killer's Game, an action comedy starring Dave Bautista and Sofia Boutella. Adkins is perhaps best known for playing Killa in John Wick: Chapter 4, one of the many antagonists that Keanu Reeves' vengeful hitman had to battle throughout the course of the film.

Liam Neeson’s beloved run as an action movie star may be coming to an end next year. The Oscar nominee spoke to People magazine and teased his retirement from the genre that reignited the back half of his acting career. Neeson’s role in 2008’s “Taken” transformed him into an action icon, and he’s never stopped kicking butt on screen in the 16 years since. Even well into his 70s, Neeson continues to perform his own fight scenes with some help from longtime stunt collaborator Mark Vanselow.

“I’m 72 — it has to stop at some stage,” Neeson told the publication. “You can’t fool audiences. I don’t want Mark to be fighting my fight scenes for me.”

While Neeson has not yet set a specific date for his last action movie role, he did say that it will likely be in 2025, adding: “Maybe the end of next year.

Next week sees the release of his crime drama, Absolution, in which he plays an aging mobster looking to make amends with his family before his time is up. You may know Madison Bailey as the free-spirited Kiara on Outer Banks, but the 25-year-old actress possesses another skill set you haven’t yet seen onscreen.

Growing up, her true passion was creating and writing music. But then she “kind of fell into acting” as a teenager, landed a recurring role in the DC superhero drama Black Lightning, then skyrocketed to fame with a starring role in Netflix’s hit series Outer Banks, which released part one of its fourth season on Oct. 10. THR reports that the Man of Steel and The Witcher star has signed on to play a lead role in Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action Voltron movie.

Cavill joins previously-cast newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye, who previously appeared in Badults and served as Tom Holland’s understudy in Romeo & Juliet on the West End this spring. No details on either of their characters have been disclosed, but we assume they will play two of the five Voltron pilots.

The project is being helmed by Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber, and is based on the Japanese sci-fi show Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger Xv. World Events would later edit and dub the series as a syndicated show, naming it Voltron: Defender of the Universe, which ran in the mid '80s.
