Shooting recently wrapped on the U.S. sci-fi thriller “White Mars,” toplining Luke Newton (“Bridgerton”) and Lucy Hale (“Pretty Little Liars”) and co-financed by XYZ Films and Singularity Ent. The pic was filmed entirely at Cinecittà’s Theater 18, which houses one of the world’s largest LED stages and has become a fundamental asset. And pre-production is underway on Mel Gibson’s “The Resurrection of the Christ,” which will use Cinecittà’s sprawling new Studio 22 facility as its main hub this summer. Emily Alyn Lind plays the lead, Cadence Sinclair, in Prime Video’s new series, We Were Liars. The series is based on E. Lockhart’s 2014 novel of the same name, which received critical acclaim. The teaser trailer of the show just dropped, and from the way it is presented, fans couldn’t help but immediately think of Freeform’s thriller series Pretty Little Liars.

At the beginning, it appears that we are in for a summer vacation show until the mood quickly changes into something much darker. Julie Plec of The Vampire Diaries fame and Carina Adly MacKenzie of The Originals fame serve as the co-showrunners of the show.

Over 25 Years Later, a Cult Classic Teen Comedy (Starring a Beloved Joker Actor) Could Be Getting a New Sequel Trilogy
Image
The director of the 1999 teen comedy 10 Things I Hate About Youis developing a sequel trilogy, more than a quarter of a century after the film starring the late Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles premiered. Per People, Gil Junger, who directed the original film, is working on a follow-up titled 10 Things I Hate About Dating, along with the original movie’s producer, Andrew Lazar.

It doesn’t end there, as Junger is proposing that 10 Things I Hate About Dating is just the first film in a sequel trilogy to the movie that also starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Larisa Oleynik, David Krumholtz, Andrew Keegan, and Gabrielle Union. Junger is reportedly penning the script for the first film with Naya Elle James. Junger’s planned trilogy also includes two more titles called 10 Things I Hate About Marriage and 10 Things I Hate About Kids.

Why The Pretty Little Liars Spin-Off Ravenswood Was Canceled After One Season
Image
I. Marlene King's mega-hit teen drama, "Pretty Little Liars," opens with a straightforward pilot episode. In the episode's cold open, a young girl goes missing during a sleepover, setting the stage for a one-year time-jump revolving around the other girls who were there when it happened. The missing girl, Alison Dilaurentis (Sasha Pieterse), still hasn't been found, but her friends collectively receive threatening messages from a certain "A," who seems to know a lot about each of their deepest, darkest secrets. With time, we (along with the girls) learn more about that fateful night, along with the central group's complicated dynamics with one another, especially with the mean-spirited Alicent. There's plenty of drama and intrigue to unwrap here, as this is a show that hinges on snappy dialogue and red herrings to create a convoluted mystery with no obvious solutions.

As confusing and thematically iffy as "Pretty Little Liars" can be at times,...

‘You’ Peaked With Peach Salinger, and Then Never Recovered After Her Death
Image
Oh, Peach Salinger. What would You be without, well… you? Despite the hilariously pretentious name, the trust fund, and a vanity so blinding it deserved its own filter, Peach Salinger was That girl.

The one who clocked the psycho way before anyone else even noticed the red flags were, in fact, blood-soaked. Say what you want about her, but Peach had layers. She was messy, dramatic, and high-key obsessed with her bestie. Yeah, she had her toxic moments (don’t we all?), but Peach sniffed Joe out like a Chanel-spritzed bloodhound way before anyone else even flinched. And for that alone? She deserved better. Way better.

Let’s be honest—this woman deserves a little posthumous justice, and I’m here to serve it.

Lucy Hale's in-the-works Netflix thriller series already sounds like a must-watch
Image
On April 14, Deadline broke the news that, after a bidding war, Netflix had secured a new thriller series adaptation based on the book Dead Letters by Caite Dolan-Leach. Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) is set to star and executive produce the drama with Alex Cooper's (Call Her Daddy ) Unwell Productions and Aaron Laplan's Kaptial Entertainment.

The project took off because Lucy Hale loved reading the book. After talking to her manager, Leeds, they looped in Kaplan to collaborate on the thriller series. It's no surprise that Hale is set to play identical twins, Ava and Zelda. Her love for the story could prove crucial to the success of this upcoming Netflix show. Book adaptations can be tricky, but having a fan of the book star in and produce it sounds like a win.

Fans have seen Hale pull off a multitude of different characters throughout her career. I haven't read the book,...

One Tree Hill Was a Defining Teen Drama, but I Don’t Think the Reboot Can Succeed in Today’s World
Image
What’s that I hear? Why, it’s the sound of Gavin DeGraw crooning the opening theme of One Tree Hill. Take me back to the days of flip phones, Sketchers, and AOL Instant Messenger.

Those were the days when teen drama ruled as the last remnants of the late ’90s and early 2000s.

One Tree Hill was a defining show for an entire generation of teenagers. Now, the series acts as a time capsule, freezing a moment in time that many people in their thirties now look back on with nostalgia.

(Warner Bros. Television/Screenshot)

Believe it or not, the show is still popular among the crowd that originally enjoyed it, as well as a new group of kids who are discovering it for the first time.

That’s why Netflix saw an opportunity to cash in on all those memories of Coach bags and Hollister tees. However, can...

Lucy Hale's Overlooked 2021 Rom-Com Is Finally Finding An Audience On Netflix
Image
When Sally Thorne's "The Hating Game" was released in 2018, it became what one can only call a TikTok sensation. While the term itself does not inspire confidence for a plethora of reasons, Thorne's rom-com novel made a tangible mark on ardent lovers of the romance genre. Sure, it isn't as influential as Sarah J. Mass' "A Court of Thorns and Roses" book series, but "The Hating Game" checked all the genre boxes that make a rom-com enjoyable. The central couple in question — Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman — fulfill the classic enemies-to-lovers trope, oscillating between mutual hatred and a budding tension tinged with silly, feel-good shenanigans.

This is not the kind of novel that etches out complex characters or devastates you with its taut storytelling. However, "The Hating Game" is a solid genre entry that succeeds in making good use of cliched tropes while weaving a love story worth rooting for.

Hello, Elle! Our first look at the Legally Blonde prequel series has arrived

Prime Video began production on its new series, Elle, and on April 2, Reese Witherspoon released a first-look photo of Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods.

When reporting on the series update, Deadline shared Prime Video commits to going back in time to tell Elle's past right: "You can tell they’ve gone back in time as the teen uses her clear phone to speak to her friends on a landline, as many did in the '90s. And in true Elle Woods fashion, she’s wearing a pink hoodie and surrounded by her pink bedding."

Viewers can expect a lot of pink attire, corded phones, and possibly some great dialogue. If they fully commit, the audience will be transported back to a different era of music and feel like we're in the Legally Blonde films with a younger spin.

TV Show Sets That Were Recycled for Other Series

Unlike a movie set, which will probably only stand for a few months, a TV set might have to hold out for anywhere from a few weeks for an unproduced pilot to several decades. ‘The Residence’ Review: Uzo Aduba Leads a Sharp Ensemble in Netflix’s Excellent Whodunnit
Image
Some things are universally true, like Newton’s Universal Law of Gravitation or the fact that water is wet. Also true: TV viewers love a murder mystery.

There’s a reason, after all, that there are so many of them on TV at any given time, from long-running procedurals like “Law & Order” to soapy dramas like “Pretty Little Liars” to dark and prestigious limited series like “True Detective.” TV viewers even like ‘em funny, like the recent “Matlock” reboot, “Only Murders In The Building” or Kaitlin Olson’s hit “High Potential.”

You have to think that’s why Netflix and Shondaland teamed up once again to make “The Residence,” its new 8-episode whodunnit set (of all places) in the White House. With a bang-up ensemble cast that includes everyone from Randall Park to Bronson Pinchot to Kylie Minogue, and a series of twists and turns that practically requires a binge-watch,...

The Sex Lives of College Girls’ Best Future is on Netflix After Max Cancellation
Image
On Tuesday afternoon, Max left many viewers stunned when it canceled The Sex Lives of College Girls.

The comedy series was rare in that it was genuinely funny, with powerhouse performances from its leads, Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Reneé Rapp, and Alyah Chanelle Scott.

Simply put, the series cut through a world with a lot of TV, which rarely happens.

(Tina Thorpe/Max )

The cancellation occurred mere months after the conclusion of the third season, leaving everyone wondering where the series could go next.

Instead of the cliffhangers we were accustomed to with the first two seasons, most storylines were closed up reasonably well, hinting that creatives were unsure about the show’s prospects.

Teen-focused series on Max don’t tend to stand the test of time, as evidenced by the Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars reboots being scrapped after their sophomore seasons.

Remembering Beloved Character Actor Biff Wiff
Image
Character actors are the backbone of the entertainment industry. In a constellation of Hollywood stars, they’re the unassuming comets that add a touch of eccentricity or relatable normalcy to our favorite shows. Biff Wiff was among those familiar faces where folks don't always know the names to match, and he played each little role with pride. Born in Chicago in 1948, the beloved actor, who always preferred this stage name, sadly passed away on February 12, 2025, aged 76, following a lengthy cancer battle.

Even if brief, his moments on screen carried a lived-in, comforting quality. With his bushy beard and gentle demeanor, Wiff quickly became an actor that viewers easily recognized. He wasn't a household name as such, although his presence was felt. Wiff represented the tradition of hard-working character actors whose contributions elevate storytelling through small but essential roles.

Image
Lucy Hale rose to fame with her role in the hit TV show Pretty Little Liars, but she nearly found big success earlier than that as the star of a hit Disney series. While she didn't land that role, the experience was still amazing enough that it solidified Hale's desire to pursue an acting career.

Per People, Hale appeared on Buzzfeed's "The Puppy Interview" when she commented on some of the roles she didn't get over the course of her career, going all the way up to the recent hit film The Substance. She mentioned Hannah Montana as well, going on to clarify that she auditioned for the titular role, which ultimately went to Miley Cyrus. It's unclear how much Hale was considered for the role after she submitted her audition, though she noted that it was very early in the process, "years" before Cyrus was cast.

Teen drama fans may know Lucy Hale as the stylish, crime-solving Aria Montgomery on “Pretty Little Liars,” but she almost played another iconic YA role: Hannah Montana.

Participating in Buzzfeed’s “The Puppy Interview,” Hale was asked about which roles she’s auditioned for that would surprise viewers, and she rattled off a number of movies, including “Pitch Perfect,” the 2009 version of “Hairspray,” and “50 Shades of Grey.”

'F Marry Kill' Review: Lucy Hale’s Swipes Right on a Killer
Image
After her breakthrough role in Pretty Little Liars, Lucy Hale has recently starred in a string of films that offer her own brand of laughs or terror. She confidently struts down the rom-com path with wholesome installments of The Hating Game, ANice Girl Like You or Which Brings Me To You, where she delivers an offbeat intensity around sex and relationships that is awkwardly relatable. On the other hand, her roles in the horror genre, including Truth or Dare or Fantasy Island, take us back to the constant fear and paranoia of being stalked by "A," just in a more mature setting. In 2025, it is about time that these two worlds collided, giving us the ultimate Hale production: F Marry Kill.
