An impressive drama, amazing from Tennant again.

Alexander Litvinenko details to DI Hyatt and DS Dawson how he's been poisoned, and the details surrounding why he's been poisoned.

I was keen to see how this was going to differ from The BBC's adaptation of The Salisbury Poisonings, a different, but very similar story, from the off it is very much the story from Litvinenko's point of view.

As ITV have done with several real life crime dramas of late, it feels very respectful, very factual, I understand that it had a graphic at the beginning saying that several scenes had been dramatised,

It's staggering to see just how much Tennant looks like Litvinenko, those haunting images of him wrapped in a blanket, in that hospital bed, chilling.

Quality acting from Neil Maskell and co, but once again it's another masterclass from David Tennant, The Doctor Who star is simply phenomenal, there aren't enough plaudits to apply to him, his acting is just captivating.

8/10.

Episode 1

Litvinenko had a familiar opening segment. The classic film noir D. O. A.

Alexander Litvinenko (David Tennant) tells the cops that he has been murdered. The cops visit him in hospital after he threw up blood and his hair fell out.

Based on a true story that caused waves back in 2006. Alexander Litvinenko was a former Russian spy who became a critic of Putin's Russia.

Having moved to London with his family, the dissident former spy became a British citizen.

The first episode has Litvinenko telling two sceptical detectives Brent Hyatt (Neil Maskell) and Jim Dawson (Barry Sloane) what might have happened and why. While the hospital tries to figure out just what kind of poisoning will cause his death.

It is a respectful and a matter of fact opener. David Tennant does his best with a Russian accent.

I did feel the characters had little to work with here. Litvinenko describes the events that led to him being poisoned from his hospital bed.

Maybe the drama would have been better served by giving more of Litvinenko's backstory in the opener.
