Zara Larsson gets glammed up to get down and dirty in the music video for her latest single “Pretty Ugly.” The pop musician cruises into frame in an old beat up Volkswagen, eyes smoldering in the rearview mirror reflection. When she steps out, it’s not in heels ready to hit the dance floor — but barefoot and ready to rumble.
The Charlotte Rutherford-directed visual drops Larsson into a muddy field with a gang of girls who throw her up into basket tosses and more cheer-inspired moves crafted by choreographer Zoi Tatopoulos.

Sailor Moonfans frequently ponder what effect Usagi and the other Sailor Scouts had on the world around them. Because readers spend most of the story following Usagi, who usually bounces from one crisis to the next, they rarely get the chance to soak in the world and see what effect Sailor Moon's crusade for love and justice is having on Japan as a whole. One of Sailor Moon's most overlooked side stories shows that Usagi's heroism inspired at least two copycats. The copycats, however, follow in Usagi's footsteps for highly unexpected reasons.
One of the most interesting, but under-explored, elements of Sailor Moon's world-buildingis that the public is well aware of Usagi and her friend's actions. For example, in Sailor Moon's 18th episode, "Shingo's Innocent Love! A Sorrowful French Doll," Shingo makes a Sailor Moon doll because his girlfriend, Mika Kayama, loves the heroine. Plus, the claw...

Naoko Takeuchi's Sailor Moonis one of the most iconic and beloved manga and anime series of the 1990s and one of the most instantly recognizable franchises in media history, even to people with little knowledge of the anime or manga mediums. One of Sailor Moon's most fascinating elements is its lore. While the series' later arcs massively flesh out the universe and give fans a deeper insight into the nature and history of the Sailor Scouts, some questions have never been answered satisfactorily. One such question concerns the existence of Sailor Earth, as it still causes intense fan debates today.
Sailor Moon's first arc, titled the Dark Kingdom arc, introduces fans to the main cast of Sailor Scouts: Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus. All but one of these scouts are named after one of the Solar System's inner planets. The only...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has held almost 100 ceremonies, which means people have been screaming that they got it all wrong in various categories since the Calvin Coolidge administration. It's a bit like in sports where people root for their favorites, only that people are arguing over intangible accomplishments rather than touchdowns and what have you.
Once you get used to the way the Oscars work (e.g. they really hate comedy), you realize there is a certain type of film that's likely to be honored, and those certain types of films attract a certain type of actor -- ergo, to a large extent, it's futile to pull for favorites. Arnold Schwarzenegger was long one of the most popular actors on the planet, but he was portrayed by the media as a walking caricature of himself; only now, in his 70s, could he earn a Best Actor...

Revenge stories are one of horror’s most popular sub-genres that range from arthouse endeavors, to gritty grindhouse fare, to pulpy “torture porn” and everything in between. Turkish filmmaker Can Evrenol, who previously struck gold with the surreal and suffocating Baskin and Housewife, tries his hand in this territory and strikes a rich vein that bleeds deep. Sayara explores the same themes of family, forgiveness, trauma, and redemption that were present in his previous films. However, this hits even harder since the film’s opening text claims that this is all based on true stories. Sayara is a bloody baptism that leads to its titular character’s rebirth. It’s also one of 2024’s most savage movies, horror or otherwise.
Sayara delivers a potent one-two punch of brutality and provoking social commentary that thrives through its moving character work. Sayara (Duygu Kocabiyik) is a janitor at a martial arts gym...

Naoko Takeuchi wrote Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon in 1991, and published it through Kodansha's shojo magazine. The magical girl story was an instant hit, and Toei Animation adapted it into an anime starting in 1992. While the '90s Sailor Moon anime is still popular with audiences today, it differs quite a bit from the source material.
The new anime reboot, Sailor Moon Crystal, and its two concluding films (Sailor Moon Eternal and Sailor Moon Cosmos) are far more loyal to Takeuchi's original story. Both anime series have their pros and cons. Fans old and new enjoy how close Crystal is to the manga.

Factions within fiction, and especially anime, are a household concept. Having a family or team provides anime characters a sense of familiarity and camaraderie, while entire villain organizations, through sheer member size or infamy, carry a visually and aesthetically understandable sense of danger and overwhelming force.
Some anime characters like to go it alone, but plenty of others find strength in numbers, and they will either form or join a faction and get a sense of belonging. Some anime factions are outlaw squads whose members band together for mutual protection, while others are official organizations or even military units complete with their own uniforms and hierarchy. Many anime fans would like to meet some of the most powerful, interesting, and popular factions in anime and see what they stand for.

Show creator Kurt Sutter initially rejected Michael Chiklis and Walton Goggins as guest stars for Sons of Anarchy. Walton Goggins portrayed Venus Van Dam, a pivotal character who challenged the club's toxic ideas and aided Tig's development. Michael Chiklis had a brief but crucial role as Milo, indirectly and directly related to Gemma's and Jax's deaths in Sons of Anarchy.
Sons of Anarchy had some interesting guest stars throughout its seven seasons, and two of them were the result of a broken promise from the shows creator, but they improved the series. Back in 2008, Sons of Anarchy arrived to take viewers into the complex and intense world of motorcycle clubs. Created by Kurt Sutter, Sons of Anarchy introduced the audience to the title Mc in the fictional town of Charming, California, where they not only protected the community but also got involved in shady businesses and conflicts with other MCs and some criminal groups.

We are moments away from the “Survivor 46” finale, and after a season of messy gameplay and no clear strategic frontrunner, it is confusing as ever as to who will ultimately win the title of Sole Survivor. In last week’s episode, “Mamma Bear,” one of the most visible, uproarious contestants of the season was eliminated, Q Burdette, leaving just the Top 5 contestants still in the game. Let’s break down this penultimate episode to determine who will come out on top in the final episode and where these remaining five players stand.
The week prior, many viewers were confused about Ben Katzman‘s stray vote for Kenzie Petty on what was a unanimous blindside of Venus Vafa and whether there was any strategic reason for it; turns out it was a moment of mental lapse after so many days in the game, but either way, it does not look good on him.

This article contains spoilers for Bridgerton season 3 part 1.
In the new season of Bridgerton, Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton) twirl among tacky fake columns. They argue while gazing not-so-subtly into each other’s eyes. Penelope’s skirts swish over a Roman mosaic of two winged gods. The resident mean girl Cressida quips, “Eros and Psyche, battling it out.”
What on earth is Cressida on about? How do Eros and Psyche mirror Colin and Penelope? Most crucially, how does this myth predict the rest of season 3? Dearest gentle reader, this author shall explain all.
Who Are Cupid and Psyche?
Eros is the Greek name and Cupid is the Roman name for the same god of love. His dramatic romance with Psyche appears on ancient Greek vases and statues from the 4th century Bce onwards. The longest written-out version is from a smutty Latin novel called The Golden Ass, by the North African writer Apuleius.

Tribe dynamics shift after Q's tribal council plea, causing castaways to rethink game strategy. Q's attempt to engineer his own vote-out backfires, leading to chaos and a tie vote. Hunter's vulnerability and possession of idol kept tribal council chaotic, resulting in his elimination.

A lot of people are trying to take credit for Soda’s vote-out on Survivor. Venus took credit just minutes after the vote. Tevin planned on taking credit later, presumably if he ever hit those Final 3 Tribal Council seats, and Liz told the camera that voting “Soda” was not only her idea, but she had been planning on voting her out from the early days on Nami. Even the elusive Survivor “monster,” wherever he, she or it may be hiding, probably wants full kudos for poor Soda’s demise.

A new deleted scene from Survivor 46, Episode 6 has been revealed. The episode featured the Merge Challenge and Moriah Gaynor getting voted out.
As Survivor fans already saw, Moriah became a sacrificial lamb from the Siga Tribe after all Yanu Tribe members earned safety.
The unbalanced teams teased a one-sided Merge Challenge, but the underdog team nearly pulled it off. If not for the puzzle prowess of Hunter McKnight, the results may have been different.
But additional footage from the episode hit the cutting room floor. If the episode had been two hours, viewers could have seen more discussions at the Merge Feast and back at camp with the losing team.
The main focus of those scenes (during the episode) was deciding who would be targeted at the upcoming Tribal Council. It was an extensive discussion, with Nami and Siga each asked to nominate someone to vote out.

The sneak peek video for “Survivor 46” Episode 2 has been released by CBS, and it’s all about Tevin Davis (watch above). The 24-year-old actor from Virginia reveals to the camera that he’s playing “a very social game” at the Nami camp and that he’s already connected with Hunter McKnight and Soda Thompson. “I feel like I’m attached to everybody,” Tevin declares before adding, “The only person that I don’t get a good vibe from is Venus [Vafa].”
In last week’s premiere, Venus was called out by Randen Montalvo for acting a bit too much like former “Survivor” winner (and current “The Traitors” contestant) Parvati Shallow, and Venus later admitted to the audience that she was indeed being “sneaky.” Will that come back around to bite her?

Upon securing a spot in the 2024 Best Supporting Actress Oscar lineup, Jodie Foster (“Nyad”) officially shattered the Academy Awards record for longest span between fourth and fifth acting nominations. Following her two Best Actress wins for “The Accused” (1989) and “The Silence of the Lambs” (1992), she had last been recognized in that category for “Nell” (1995), making for a general nomination gap of 29 years. Coincidentally, she took this particular distinction from fellow “Silence of the Lambs” winner Anthony Hopkins, who waited 22 years between his supporting bids for “Amistad” (1998) and “The Two Popes” (2020).
Previously, the female record for longest wait for a fifth nomination was 12 years, as shared by Julianne Moore and Frances McDormand. Considering gaps between any two consecutive acting nominations, Foster ranks well behind overall record holder Judd Hirsch, whose first and second career notices for “Ordinary People” (1981) and “The Fabelmans” (2023) came 42 years apart. Since the establishment of the Academy Awards in 1929, exactly 60 films have achieved lone lead male acting nominations, meaning they were each recognized in the Best Actor category and nowhere else. The last such instance occurred in 2023 and involved “Aftersun” star Paul Mescal, who, at 26, stood out as the youngest member of a lineup consisting only of first-time Oscar contenders. Although his low-budget movie had a strong shot at an original screenplay bid and was viewed as a serious Best Picture candidate, it ended up getting no love outside the acting branch.
Before Mescal was recognized, his category hadn’t seen a lone nominee since Willem Dafoe earned his first lead bid for “At Eternity’s Gate” in 2019. This was the ninth time that four or more years separated consecutive Best Actor loners, with the single largest gap having spread between Cary Grant and Clifton Webb. Such nominations appear to be becoming less common in this category,...

Exclusive: Grasshopper Film and streaming platform Documentary+ have acquired North American rights to the Oscar-shortlisted feature Apolonia, Apolonia, a deal announced as the nomination voting window opens for the 96th Academy Awards.
Grasshopper will release the film theatrically Friday at Dctv’s Firehouse Cinema in New York, “with a launch on Documentary+ following all other traditional windows,” according to a release.
The film directed by Lea Glob documents the life of French painter Apolonia Sokol over a 13-year period, examining her attempt to maintain artistic integrity in an art world — and culture — where patriarchy privileges the male gaze over the female.

Ryan Gosling is one of the biggest contenders for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar this year for his role as Ken in Greta Gerwig‘s smash hit “Barbie.” The Warner Bros. movie follows Margot Robbie‘s titular Barbie as she leaves Barbie Land for the real world in search of answers after suffering an existential crisis. Gosling’s performance as Ken has brought him plenty of plaudits, leading to a strong case for Best Supporting Actor in this year’s Oscars race.
However, this isn’t the first Oscars race Gosling has been in as he’s received two Academy Award nominations before. Let’s take a look back at them.
Gosling was first nominated in 2007 when he received a Best Actor notice for “Half Nelson,” which follows Gosling as a junior high school teacher with a drug habit. Gosling’s teacher forms a friendship with one of his students...

Lea Glob approaches the subject of her award-winning documentary, Apolonia, Apolonia, with a devout curiosity. Apolonia, a French painter whom the director met in 2009, is a striking figure. She is wide-eyed and brunette with bangs that stop, almost abruptly, in the middle of her forehead. She moves with an arresting ease, commanding rooms like stage actors do theater audiences. In the first scene of the film, shot in 2013, the artist flits about her tiny apartment, preparing for her 26th birthday party. She dismisses dress options like a countess among her attendants and demands attention from her friends in a similarly regal manner. Her smile, a toothy grin outlined by vivid lipstick colors, courts mischief. Her eyes inspire questions.
Who is Apolonia? Glob’s meditative doc is, initially, desperate to know. The beginning of Apolonia, Apolonia chronicles those years when Glob sheepishly assumed the role of director and the artist her subject.

Postmodern attempts at genre defiance have become de rigueur for pop artists today. In a streaming-dominated world where we can type away on our laptops to ambient hip-hop in the morning, sing along to old yacht-rock hits on our afternoon commute, and dance to Edm at night, what other way is there to keep our attention than to try to give us everything everywhere all at once? We’ve gotten a few attempts to do just that in 2023, from Kara Jackson’s quietly rebellious blending of folk and R&b, to Yves Tumor’s kitchen-sink instrumentation, to 100 gecs’s audacious and absurd hyperpop assaults.
Many of the artists who appear on this list, though, no longer seem content to just break down old barriers, as they also seek to shatter interpersonal and emotional ones as well. The oft-cited isolation of modern living, heavily exacerbated by the pandemic, has compelled some...

Sofia Coppola's new movie Priscilla doesn't feature any performances or recordings of Elvis Presley songs. The decision to omit Elvis' music was not in Coppola's hands, as the estate did not accept her request for the rights. By not using any of Elvis' music, however, the film focuses solely on Priscilla and her story, providing an honest perspective without pressure to flatter Elvis' image.
Sofia Coppola's new movie Priscilla doesn't feature any Elvis songs, which might seem like a strange choice for a movie about the wife of the King of Rock.
