It's getting cartoonish
cjnovak9222 September 2023
I don't hate it. It's nice seeing these characters again but it all feels kinda ridiculous. Especially the "Cavendish College" scenes. It's like the absurdity is turned up to 11 and it just feels out of place. Almost like it's all a dream. I'm trying to be vague so not to spoil anything but I'm very curious where it does end up going and if the tone will change at all. I really wish Otis and Maeve were together because that relationship is the heart of the show, and I guess the heart feels broken at the moment. Based on the ending of this episode, that may be where it's headed for good. I will keep watching because I want to see how these character storylines play out.

Quite a different series
csorbacintia26 September 2023
I find it such a pity that so many things happened out of screen and plenty of characters I was stoked to see again won't be here to see.

I always loved the series for it's inclusivity, but the fictive college they created feels almost like a parody. The dialogues and the new characters represent plenty of important minorities, but it still feels like as if they wrote them in to have a tick on a list.

I am still curious where the stories of main characters develop over the season, but I hope to hear that signature "mischief music" with intriguing scenes a bit more instead of boring discourse.

Everybody is special... (oh, the irony)
Gernot S.14 October 2023
I love the show. My sole complaint always has been that it was hard, at times, to keep up with the suspension of disbelief. There's this group of teenagers, and almost everybody turns out to be the poster boy/girl/being of being sexually special.

Also, it takes away a huge part of the reality of being special - having to deal with the fact that most others are NOT.

But hey, it's fiction, I loved the characters and the stories. No problem...

And then THIS episode happened.

Everything I described above, amped up to 20.000.

The scene with the "specials" - as the dominant group(!) - excluding the "normal" girl... feels, aside from the blatant irony, like a revenge fantasy. And it seems like they only have "positive energy" for those who "are like them".

That's not inclusive, that's just reversing the power balance.

Oh, and I didn't really like how Otis handled the competition. What's worse: he made himself look very bad, and not mature enough for the job - being awkward about (verbal) sexual misunderstandings...

Lastly: Being a counselor is not about giving "good" advice. It's about asking the right questions. Which was exactly what his "enemy" did.

I liked her way more than I liked him, in that episode.

Welcome back!

Sex education is back and it doesn't waste a second without the awkward humor its widely known for.

What i love about this show that it stayed true to its title, literally a sex education with a sarcastic style.

The downside of this episode in my opinion is that there is not enough screen time of Ruby, a great character that had a bad ending in the last season, hopefully this season will treat her well.

And as we saw the episode introduces new characters whom if i dare to say are extrinsic.

It's a promising start to the season, and the show continues to give us comedy with a bit of drama and lastly we all hope the show ends in a better way than how the last season ended.

Hope the season gets better from here
laitkin21 September 2023
I hate to say it but this ep was boring. I know they need a chance to set new characters & plot points up, but it was seriously uneventful. I went from being keen to watch the whole season in one hit to feeling the urge to switch to something else.

I'm also so extremely disappointed to see a lot of great characters gone. I was looking forward to the newbies but this episode didn't highlight any particularly likeable ones.

Finally, I know that this is set in a world where the UK has pseudo-US style schools so Moordale was always a bit fanciful, BUT... this new school... come on. It's ridiculous. I know Gen z are wonderfully switched on & inclusive, but this was just pushed to the point of irritating.

I'm still going to keep watching. I have my fingers crossed that, even if it's not the best season, at the very least, the beloved characters that haven't been banished into the ether will get a satisfying finale.

Utopia or dystopia
haris8925 September 2023
I used to like this series a lot, and was really excited to see the season 4, but this is completely different thing now.

This feels like a parody, a way to laugh how inclusive, positive, unreal and all-perfect the new school is.

I don't know is it supposed to be like an utopian or dystopian imaginary world of Sex Education, but it definitely is pushed over the edge making it stupid and not even enjoyable anymore.

The only thing left to care about is how the backbone of the show with Otis and Maeve relationship will end, because of an investment into these characters during the previous seasons,

It's just a bit silly

Warning: Spoilers
I'm happy to watch the rest of the series but the lack of lateral thinking from the main characters is genuinely maddening.

Otis not bothering to explain or even message Maeve back is ridiculous. Like, I don't buy that his character would just ignore her instead.

The characters that went to Moordale and all know each other not banding together is weird. Why had nobody told the substitute teacher that they don't use pens?

As others have said, the new college is bonkers. So over the top that I don't know whether it's actually the obvious way to go to do something like that. Wouldn't it be private and cost a fortune? Or are we now not even in the UK? The show has surely got to have SOME rules?

Huh?
thia12344 October 2023
I really loved the first couple of seasons of this show but season three went wonky and it looks like season four is going completely into the ditch. What in the world happened? It's like a completely different show and the characters we knew are completely different people. Then there are the new characters. They are so cartoonish and stereotypical it's almost bordering on offensive. Are they making fun of gay and trans people? It's starting to feel that way. It certainly isn't funny anymore and it really used to be funny. I think I'm done with the show sadly. It's just annoying me at this point.

Nightmare fuel.
Tommetfactory2822 October 2023
Seasons 1-3 had moments of real charm and incorporated some well rounded characters who assisted in playing out the, at times, extremely progressive narrative. This season debut is on a whole other level of nauseating. Newly introduced cast members are some of most irritating folk ever put on screen. If you were ever unlucky enough to end up in the Cavendish College you'd think you were being punished for some hideous crime. I'd rather do time in a Super-Max jail that endure the horrors of this 'educational' institute. The charm from the first three seasons is well and truly dead and buried. What's left is an episode void of all humour and relatability. Unfortunately, I've been pre-warned that this is the narrative throughout the rest of this season. Thank goodness it's the last one!

What a train wreck
Jason2432125 September 2023
Emblematic of the new direction for the show, they introduced Hannah Gadsby as a new character. This should tell you almost everything you need to know. The other new characters are equally insufferable. The hard turn into culture war insanity is jarring, to say the least. The show used to be about fun and interesting slice of life situations with charismatic characters. No more. Now you can enjoy that powerful sense of condescension which is the hallmark of each and every Hannah Gadsby lecture.

It's lamentable to see another, great show sacrificed at the alter of The Message. The reviews corroborate the marked shift in tone and directorial competence. It looks like they hired a new director for season four. Is he to blame? Hard to tell. I just know I won't be watching last episode one. Judging by the reviews, I am not alone.

Lord have mercy this is a 💩 show..

Warning: Spoilers
Oh my god. Dude. What the hell. All the character development is gone. It's just surface level now. The only thing we get in those regards are Adam and his Dad (briefly) and then all the important moments that were supposed to happen before Otis and the gang went off to college is just not there. Then Jakob and Ola are just cut out???? I mean I get that Joy probably isn't Jakob's kid but really???? We don't get to see how that played out either? Jakob and Ola are important characters and you're also telling me that Lily is just cutout of the show after that dramatic buildup at the end of season 3???? Does Joy's treehouse get built???? I did some research and saw where the original writer was hired on for this first episode but the director had changed... part of me thinks the director barely watched this show and pressured the OG writer into making this horrific mess. Come to find out, it probably WAS the case considering the writers after this episode are different. This can't be the last season, right?! I mean I've only watched this first episode to this last season and I'm already foreseeing its downfall through to the last episode. Man. I've never been more disappointed by a show. And this may be the only time in history a new production team was hired to write the last season, not a good idea for any show.
