CBS originally ordered 13 episodes of NCIS: Origins, giving the drama a chance to succeed on Monday nights.

Having NCIS as a lead-in and working with familiar characters (like Young Gibbs and Young Mike Franks) has worked well.

The new show from the NCIS Universe is based in 1991, years before Mark Harmon began playing Gibbs on NCIS.

Sean Harmon’s idea was to do a prequel show, and he serves as an Executive Producer while his dad (Mark) narrates.

Sean played Young Gibbs during flashbacks on NCIS, but Austin Stowell now portrays the younger Leroy Jethro Gibbs on Origins.

CBS announced that NCIS: Origins has now received a full-season order.

CBS has increased its order from 13 to 18 episodes, picking up additional content for this spring.

Two more CBS freshmen have earned big votes of confidence from the Eye Network, with prequel series NCIS: Origins and rookie comedy Poppa’s House both snagging full-season orders on Thursday.

NCIS: Origins is currently averaging 6.2 million total viewers (with Live+7 playback), ranking No. 3 among all freshmen shows (behind Matlock and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage). Poppa’s House, meanwhile, thus far is averaging 4.3 million total viewers, per Nielsen, and ranks as the fall’s No. 3 new comedy.

CBS has officially given Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage a full season order. So what does this mean? Usually with broadcast television, new shows get around 10-13 episode first seasons. This is to test out the waters and see how well-received a series is going to be for the networks. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is the third show in the Big Bang Theory franchise, and is set between the time periods of the long-running original and prequel Young Sheldon, whose seven-season run ended in May. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will hit the one-year mark, now that CBS has handed a back-nine order to the Young Sheldon spinoff, upping its Season 1 episode count to 22 episodes.

The full-season pick-up comes less than two weeks after the freshman comedy’s Oct. 17 premiere, which opened to 6.6 million total viewers and a 0.5 demo rating, down in viewers but steady in the demo vs. Young Sheldon‘s final season (7.3 mil/0.5); TVLine readers gave the premiere an average grade of “B+,” with 92% planning to stay tuned.

It’s two-for-two with CBS’ new scripted series so far this fall. Just like the network renewed drama Matlock after two airings, CBS has now picked up additional episodes of comedy Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage at the same mark. The Young Sheldon spinoff has received a Back 9 order and will produce a full season of 22 episodes.

The news comes after strong ratings start for the multi-camera comedy. According to VideoAmp and Paramount+ internal data (CBS is in a contractual dispute with Nielsen), its premiere episode amassed 10.6 million multi-platform viewers in its first seven days, up vs. Young Sheldon’s final season premiere in February.

That was followed by a solid Week 2 showing, with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage only slipping 2.4% from its premiere linear viewership in Live+Same Day, going neck-and-neck with Matlock for the title of most watched entertainment program on Thursday (and #2 and #3 for the week behind CBS’ Tracker.
