The Guard

Edit

Continuity

When swimming in the sea Gerry has no gloves and cold red hands. On emerging from the sea to greet Wendell he is wearing wet suit gloves.
(00:03:30) When Sergeant Gerry Boyle is first meeting Garda Aidan McBride at the murder scene, he stops his police car while the windshield wipers are up. In the immediate next shoot they are down.
When interviewing the suspect, the new officer from Dublin is pointing his finger at the suspect's head. When the local officer walks past the suspect, the new officer is now holding a pad with both his hands.
When Boyle is in his office doing his connect the dots. He holds up the book to show McBride the rabbit picture. But when he sits the book down to answer the phone the pages are blank.

Factual errors

The Irish Folk Band in the "Hooker Bar" scene plays a tune which is listed in the credits as "The Star of the County Down". This information is incorrect, though.

The tune itself got published in 1726 by Alexander Stuart in the book "Music for Allan Ramsay's Collection of Scots Songs" and was named "Gilderoy", only later (end of 19th century) did Cathal Mac Garvey write the lyrics for "The Star of the County Down", but other songs have been written to the tune also: "My Love Nell", "Divers and Lazarus", "The Murder of Maria Martin", "Mary from Blackwater Side", "When first I left old Ireland" all used the same melody.

Since the song was performed as an instrumental only, it is definitely wrong to credit it as "The Star of the County Down".
The idea that someone has to be missing for 24 hours is a widespread misconception. Missing persons cases can get launched immediately if the circumstances warrant it.
It is not possible to be ejected from a speeding motor vehicle and be found dead at the place of accident with absolutely no apparent wounds or injuries.
It is not possible to be ejected from a speeding motor vehicle and be found dead with one's eyes closed and the face resting peacefully.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

The diner Boyle meets the prostitute in is one of the "Eddie Rocket's" chain. They are joined by Francis Sheehy, carrying a bottle of "Corona Extra" beer. While no alcoholic beverages are served at Eddie Rocket's at any time, clearly Sheehy brought it with him.

Revealing mistakes

The dead person's jaw jolts back up when the piece of paper is removed from their mouth.
The leaves of the plant are moving in beat revealing that the flower pot is resting on a living person's body and is moving in cadence with their (groin) pulse.
There is obviously not an ounce of coffee in the FBI agent's cup.

Character error

Sgt Boyle wears sergeant's chevrons on his uniform sleeve but wears the shoulder boards of a regular Garda (officer).
