Another good early episode

This is another early episode of the show that puts all the characters together and then watches the sparks fly.

Sofía Vergara has been great as Gloria since day one, and gives a great performance here. I loved her standing up for herself against Julie Bowen's Claire.

Although the teens haven't been given much to do as yet, the rest of the cast are shining in their roles.

Trivia
When Phil talks to Gloria about how long it took Jay to accept him he says that "by that time Mitchell had brought Cam home". Given the time frame established in the pilot that means Phil and Claire had been married for 11 years before Jay accepted him (assuming Mitchell brought Cam home right away, probably longer).

Goofs
The Illinois/Ohio State game shown on the TV through the show isn't remotely close to the year of the episode. The first shot shown features Dustin Ward at quarterback. Ward played for Illinois from 2000-2003. Also, by the end of the episode, a shot is displayed of the screen where it's still only 12 minutes into the first quarter of the game; by context and time, it should at least be late in the game, if the game hadn't ended by that point.
